Stopped by here for a couple of tacos on Taco Tuesday! Don Tequila does have an amazing taco special on Tuesday's, it's $1/taco as long as you purchase a drink. I did order me some veggie tacos and I didn't realize they were going to charge me extra, but I guess you can only choose between beef and beans for the $1 special. Stopped here for lunch. The food was cold and inedible. The "margarita" was lemonade...I did not taste any tequila.

Service is always amazing. The food is always good no matter what you order the ambience. It's always clean organized the staff at this restaurant really cares about their customers and what they put out. Have yet to have a bad experience and I've been to this restaurant over 20 times. Went to Winston for a doctor's appointment last week, they were running an hour behind, so I took the opportunity to grab some lunch. Couldn't go far, but was craving some Mexican food...a quick Yelp search and I was able to find Don Tequila just 2 miles away. I made my way over, and even at noon was seated right away. When the waiter came to get my drink order, he brought a complimentary basket of chips and salsa to get me started. The lunch menu had a good variety to options to pick from at fairly reasonable prices. The interior is decorated very much like you'd expect a Mexican restaurant to be. I ended up ordering a plate of the lunch chicken nachos, and as expect they came out quickly. The chips were well layered with toppings, tasty queso and a fair amount of chicken. This is a great place to stop at for lunch while running errands. This place is inexpensive and the service is fast and reliable. The food is great and they always have specials on tacos and drinks. It's usually packed with people but never too rowdy. You can also sit outside to catch the natural breeze. read more

My past review was based on deliveries. I finally got to come to the restaurant. Came for lunch. Place is clean and nicely decorated. 4 stars for the ambiance. Service was very good, 5 stars. The Special Lunch 1 (Chile Relleno and taco) was okay. This dish was a lot more food than I expected. The Chile Relleno is large and full of cheese and ground beef. Nothing spectacular but a solid 3 star dish. I have had better entrees from Don Tequila in the past. The margarita was 3 stars. I got a regular margarita on the rocks. Nothing spectacular. Even though this visit was just okay, I have had better dishes from Don Tequila. I'll be back but I will order something else next time. read more

I dropped in this place for an early lunch. It is located in the Pavilion Shopping Center on Hanes Mall Blvd - the same center that housed Bad Daddy's & King'd Crab Shack. It is a nice looking interior, clean & bright. I settled on the Birria Tacos, and they were soon served. This was not an especially good version, across the board. The tortillas were way overcooked, the Birria was under seasoned, as was the consommé. Don't see a return visit here! read more

If decor is not the most important thing for you, then this is the best Mexican restaurant in Winston. Delicious food with a generous serving size. It's a strip mall so there's not too much they can do to make the place look nicer, but the service staff are friendly and it's a great meal. read more

I eat a disproportionate amount of Mexican food and this stuff still stood out. Prices were more than reasonable especially for the generous portion sizes. Oh my gosh. First I am mad at myself for not taking pictures. The food was amazing. The chips were warm and the salsa was just spicy enough. I had the lunch nachos with steak. The steak was tender and the portion size huge! My daughter got the ACC with onions and she devoured hers too. Don't let this place go by. I went here not expecting much just thinking it was another basic Mexican restaurant. I was wrong. The food here was very tasty and I loved the verde enchiladas and birria nachos. Definitely wasn't the best Mexican food experience. The food wasn't as fresh as I'd imagined it to be. I'm not sure if our food was just sitting for too long before it was served to us or if the server didn't know it was ready, when it was, but the food was not fresh or tasty. It wasn't busy when we went, but the server we had was giving his attention to other tables for an unknown reason. He forgot some things that was ordered and never acknowledged it. I would say that for better customer service, the experience could be a bit more enjoyable with a friendlier and more attentive staff. Our drinks were more sugary than alcoholic and the salsa was average tasting. The ambiance was cute, and has a lot of potential for growths since it was pretty slow day when I had gone, I thought the service would have been better. First, clean and great service. Second, it's located on Hanes Mall Blvd, but easy to access - right next to the I-40 ramps. You can order anything here and be happy. The seafood dishes are higher than other Mexican restaurants I've been to. However, you get what you pay for. I've been many times and never left a review, well... My photos show the California Burrito and a side of beans and rice. Each seem portioned for two people... I ate half sitting and half later. Great value: to enjoy fresh and get a takeout meal. Did I mention their chips and salsa... I am now. Very smooth. I'll update my review with something from the drink menu in the future. I've always been able to get a table without waiting... But, part of me wants that to change. Don Tequila's should be far busier than it's competitors around Hanes Mall because their food and experience is superior. My friend and I came here because we saw they had margarita flights. The flights were delicious. We also split queso which was phenomenal. I ordered birria tacos and they did not disappoint. We have been to this restaurant many times. The food is good...especially tacos quesabirria. The broth that comes with them is phenomenal. I get mine w/o cilantro...as it tastes like soap to me. Lately I have been craving some so me and my date went to Don Tequila. He have been here before and wanted to me to try it. I am definitely glad he brought me here. As I'm flipping through the menu, trying to figure out what I want. Boom on the last page birria tacos. But not just tacos but birria pizza and birria nachos. So if you know me then you already know what I got but let me help those who don't. I got the birria nachos. A-MAZ-ING!! The meat was seasoned and juicy. The chips were fresh fresh. On the way to Asheville we stopped at Don Tequila for lunch. To my excitement, they had Pozole on the menu, which I have yet to find in a Mexican restaurant here in North Carolina. I ordered the Pozole and a soft beef taco and my fiancé ordered the taquitos. Everything was very tasty and my only suggestion would be to order the pozole "Hot" or get extra Chile sauce and lime on the side. Definitely think this is a great find! This place truly stands out from other Mexican restaurants in the triad area. Compared to Mi Pueblo and La Fiesta, this place has less of a chain-feel and more of an authentic feel to it. First thing that caught my attention was the amount of coronita margaritas they have and the number of drink specials. I have not seen a lot of things on this menu that I've seen at other places. I LOVE salsa so much so that I could drink it.... no joke. So salsa is pretty important to me when it comes to a Mexican restaurant. This place hit it spot on with their salsa. It tasted fresh and was not at too spicy either where I was chugging a Dos Equis left and right. I also appreciated that this place gave each person their own salsa cup... because that's one thing I don't like to share. The menu was very extensive and full of great looking dishes.. half of which I couldn't pronounce. I'll definitely be back to try something from the dinner menu, but I'll likely need a translator. I ordered the 3 shredded chicken soft tacos a la carte and was impressed with the portion size. I added tomatoes and cilantro to my tacos to spruce them up a bit. The tomatoes tasted like they were freshly cut and overall, all the ingredients tasted like they were fresh and just prepared. Something you don't get at a lot of Mexican restaurants where your plates come out hot at the table. The tacos were huge and the amount of ingredients was impressive for the price paid! Great for in and out. I appreciate their menu because it is all just laid out. It is not cluttered by pictures of random items. Very cut and dry and to the point. Very swift staff and accommodating. I had the tacos (go figure) and they were ok. Not the best I have ever had but it's tacos, they are going to be eaten. I didn't get much cilantro and onions, and I know they would have brought me more but I had already asked for a few extras and I felt too bad to ask for another. Them come in 4 tacos, but they are kind of small so it would be three regular. My guest got the chicken soup, which is also a favorite of mine. This was amazing! The best I have had outside of making it myself and huge! I mean, can serve three people with one bowl for $6.50. Seems like they have daily Dos Equis for $1.35 and a margarita special that I didn't catch the price of. There were also daily food specials. read more

I've been to this restaurant multiple times and never had an issue. The food is very good but yesterday when I ordered takeout I had a long piece of curly hair in my food and could no longer eat it. I called all day to speak with a manager to resolve my issue and received a new excuse Each time. I even asked if someone else could help but there was no resolution. I DONT recommend and will never eat here again! read more
