When we stepped inside it instantly gave that beauty and enchantment with the painted arches, the shingled roofed booths, the colorful artwork- diverse from piece to piece and plentiful. There is a candy stand at the desk too. The service and attention to detail was amazing. The fooooood was a big star. I am on a mission to branch out and try a lot of new food this year, and today that included a bit or two of each dish ordered- An ACP dish, a burrito, a steak taco, spicy sauces, queso and chips, and my actual order- the pupusas. Everything- was absolutely delicious. I really enjoyed the pupusas- which I hear may be a salvadorian influenced dish? The shrimp in the different dishes was cooked perfectly- which I know from my various excursions and attempts in the world and my own kitchen- is not a guarantee. Accessibility notes: FULL stars. Various seating and options, tables and booths, room to navigate comfortably. A small ramp outside on the curb. And the bathrooms were actually fashioned correctly- in the handicap stall the bars were in the right places and at the right heights- as was the toilet paper holder- no bending necessary to access it seated. I visited El Camino Real for a lunch date with my friend. The restaurant was decorated very nicely and we were greeted at the door but was told to pick any seat. Most of the tables needed to be wiped off including the one we picked but the staff kindly walked over to clean everything up. Our server started off a little rocky but we still managed to have a great time. I order the Birria tacos and order a drink, and so did my friend. The Birria tacos were really good but I do think it could use a little more flavor. I still ate every bite. The Salsa and Queso was honestly my favorite. I love Queso anyway but theirs did not disappoint. It was so hot with no lumps! Overall, I would recommend for a quick lunch date and the drinks. read more

This is one of a handful of local restaurants the I will visit 2 or 3 times a month on average. I visited the original restaurant located in Greensboro many times. The food here is at least as good, the menu is broad, they offer daily lunch specials, and the service is almost always on point. And the parking versus the Greensboro location is a dream! On this trip I went with a dish some will neither appreciate or even touch, figuratively or literally - Pozole Roja. This dish contains hominy as a major ingredient along with pork in a rich broth seasoned with cumin, Mexican oregano, and Chiles. Here it is topped with cabbage and Chicharron. To that I will add chopped white onion, sliced avocado, grilled peppers and onions (side dish), radish, and a healthy dose of lime juice. This is a large, busy dish with at least two or three adult meals coming from it. I love this dish and they do a great job here.- right up there with Taqueria Los Juanes! I came here on a Tuesday as a party of 2 around 11:45am and we were sat immediately at a booth. I enjoyed their chips and salsa as the salsa was not too spicy. I ordered the lunch portion of the steak fajitas and a small (4oz) cheese dip. The steak was flavorful. The onions were sliced well, but I wish the bell peppers were cut a little thinner. It only came with 2 tortillas and the amount of fajitas and toppings they give you, you need more than 2 tortillas. The cheese sauce was good quality too. I do wish that the waiter stopped by a bit more often. Once we finished our meal, we did not see our waiter and were confused on how to pay. We ended up just going straight to the counter to pay. In all the years we lived in NC, my wife and I had not checked out this restaurant. Friends of ours took us there for dinner about a week before this post and I was pleasantly surprised. Plenty of parking near the restaurant although it shares the lot with the other merchants in the strip mall. The entrance was clean and inviting. Upon walking in, we were immediately greeted with a smile and shown to a booth. Menus were placed in front of us while another employee had free chips and salsa ready as well. Typical Mexican restaurant with something for everyone in the group. I won't go into the details of our order, but everyone thoroughly enjoyed what they got. I'll have to say that the staff attentiveness was at a level I've never seen before. I think by the time we left the restaurant, our table had been visited by everyone that worked there checking to make sure that everything was good and that our glasses stayed full. Great job everyone! I'll close by saying we were so impressed with the service and the food that my wife and I returned by ourselves the following week and everything was as good as the previous visit. Always been a fan of El Camino Real! I discovered them when I was a student at UNCG, and was a weekly consumer of their taco Tuesday specials. I was happy to learn of the Old Town location in Winston-Salem when I was no longer in Greensboro regularly. I've always had good experiences and service at both locations. Today I needed to order 20 tacos for a birthday party. El Camino came to mind and they were the most affordable for authentic Mexican style tacos. The young lady who took my order on the phone was very well spoken and helpful since I was scheduling the order about an hour ahead of time. I ordered a variety of asada, pollo, carnitas, chorizo, and al pastor. She made sure we wanted onions and cilantro on all the tacos, which we did, but I appreciate her asking. Everything was clearly labeled and the tacos were a hit! Our birthday girl is from the west coast and was very impressed with the tacos. What really sent it over the top was opening the neatly packaged bags to see cute little notes written on each of the boxes! Great place for groups, decent mexican food and cold beer. They also have Sunday lunch specials all under $10 which makes me very excited since I'm always on a budget. The chicken fajita salad was very satisfying layered with beans a good amount of guacamole, lettuce and chicken. My only complaint is that the chicken could have been a little better and more fajita like. They have good cold beer on top and the service was pretty good. What's good? The warm chips and salsa, basic tacos, beans and rice. I decided to try Birria from somewhere different, unfortunately I regretted my decision. I started with chorizo dip, the chorizo had a funny taste to it perhaps it was old. For the main entree the infamous Birria tacos! Taste like beef stew! Highly disappointed! Staff greets and seats you immediately at one of the many tables or booths. There is also limited seating at the bar, which has a great selection of beers and mixed drink's. Menu has lots of your regular items found at other Mexican restaurants but here they also have some more traditional dishes, always check out their specials also as they are usually pretty great. The free chips are fresh and light with some good sauce, hotter version available upon requests. Their Choriqueso dip is creamy with small pieces of chorizo in every scoop. Their tacos come in 4's and can be combined 2 and 2. The Al Pastor are the ones who the most flavors, with onions and grilled pineapple in every bite, comes with a red and green sauce.....I lean green! After looking over their extensive menu and chalkboard specials we all ordered a pitcher of Margaritas filled to the brim and our accompanying glasses w a choice of salted rim or sugared. This has become our favorite local Mexican food spot! Atmosphere: Authentic and casual dine in. Nice lighting and fun cultural decor/colors. Location: Easy to access off of reynolda in a shopping plaza. Plenty of parking To go service: When we first moved here we enjoyed them using a delivery service and they were always made in a timely fashion,packed well,and still nicely presented in to go boxes Food: We always get the tacos. They do street style small corn tortillas with fresh cilantro and onion. The meat is always delicious. I am a sucker for a good chorizo taco. I love theirs because the chorizo has a kick but not overly spicy. We also really enjoy the al pastor which is seasoned pork with a little pineapple (delicious). Eventually we will branch off and try some other dishes however, it is hard to find a genuine Mexican street style taco that is as good as this. The drinks: They have alot of options but, the classic lime margarita is our go to. I'm not sure what mix they use or if they make it themselves but, it's a great to the point margarita without all the frills... apparently their flavored margaritas are awesome so, we will definitely try those at some point as well. Customer service: we are always greeted soon after we walk in and seated within an appropriate amount of time whether it's busy or not. We have always had great service from the waitstaff which probably is another part of why we come here often. Cost: extremely great value! Tacos vary from $1.35-$2.00 drinks are usually around $5 or $6. The whole menu is very reasonably priced We usually get there once a week even though we have a policy to try to go to new spots of the same category to mix things up but, this is our exception because it is just what we love in a Mexican restaurant. Oh man... I hate giving a bad review... and one star reviews seem extreme to me. So two stars for the effort. Their lunch prices are ridiculously low, but the quality and quantity is ridiculously low, at least it was for us today. The Mexican food here was very bland, no seasoning at all. I've never needed salt and pepper to liven up a dish, other than a sprinkling on my tacos. The Taco Salad had a lot of sour cream and guacamole, and a decent amount of steak, peppers and onions. What this salad lacked was salad. There were two chunks of tomato and less than a 1/4 cup of shredded lettuce. Their tacos appeared to have premade tortilla shells and the chalupa was more of a tostada. Unfortunately the flavors left me longing for Mexican food as these menu choices we made today lacked any spice, depth of flavor, lime, cilantro, jalapeño, chipotle, cumin or anything resembling Mexican food. We eat here at least once a week. I will say the service could use some improvement. Today was the day I figured I would actually write a review about it. We were promptly sat and ordered. The food came out in a reasonable time as well. However about halfway through our meal I guess our waitress decided to dip out and never once came back to check on us or give us our check. My tea was completely empty I had to ask a different waitress to refill my tea and she acted as if it was an inconvenience to her. After we ate we literally had to go to the cash register to get our check. Never once saw our waitress again. This isn't the first time I've had to walk to the register to get the check. The food is the saving grace. I always go for the fish or shrimp tacos. Today I had the cheese pupusa and it was also delicious. This restaurant is a family and friend favorite. I always recommend it to everyone who wants authentic Mexican food and I'll certainly be back. read more

The food is not too bad for North Carolina, although it doesn't compare to what we were used to in Texas. But the surcharge for using a credit card is a deal-breaker. What a surprise! The staff first said they had no choice. Then they said the charge was mandated by the card company. Then one of them said I should talk to the manager. Then she said she was the manager. Whatever. They were polite, but clueless. I suggested a warning about the surcharge would be appropriate. They responded that it's posted where everybody sees it: on a small card taped to the counter by the register. But you don't pay at the register and would have no reason to go check it out before your meal. No sign at the door. No notice in the menu. Restaurants universally take credit cards without imposing a surcharge. If they had posted a sign prominently, I would not have entered. Having seen it now, I will not return. We live near this restaurant in Oldtown and have eaten there several times before the pandemic. Late lunch on a Saturday was when we decided to try it again. The add shrimp to the fajitas was not the price on the menu. The waiter asked how many shrimp I wanted and I said whatever the amount is for the quoted price. Finally, I said forget it! The steak in the steak fajitas was impossible to chew and the whole meal had no taste. Their chips and salsa are good but they give you a tiny bowl and never refill. I love their authentic tacos & their fajita soup is super tasty. The shrimp cocktail is authentic Mexican style with avocado and all. Now I get price changes, and all I ask is that you make people clearly aware of these. When I was there yesterday (Sunday) looked through the menu the price for the tacos I chose stated $1.50 , others $1.75. However when the bill came the tacos were $2 a piece and one was $2.50..... I questioned the menu & was told that the price change was on the door /front of the restaurant about price change. I didn't want to argue or go out to disagree or look bad. Paid & went on. Upon leaving I looked for said sign & it states that due to the rising price of meat ...they will no longer be able to offer $1 tacos & prices are subject to change. The $1 tacos are Tues. & Thurs. for starters & subject to change is so general. It really would be nice if you made your price changes clear. Please either update or place temporary stickers to adjust your pricing. I use to have issues with the restaurant not itemizing on receipts & that finally got resolved & made it better, now this. The Food was super good. I dove into the first bite of some really authentic Mexican cuisine as my taste buds were deeply moved by the chicken fajitas I ordered. Those fajitas did me justice. The bathroom was kinda small though. If you turn out of the urinal you would already nose brush the guy behind you as you pivoted into the sink. The service was service, like they did what they were supposed to.
