I had some some pretty awesome tacos from ol' Taco Corner #2. Definitely not a fancy place, kinda run down looking on the outside and dated, drab and dimly lit on the inside, but the food was 5 Star fantastic. I placed my order to-go, or "para llevar" as you may say here. The tacos are 3 per order and they are bigguns. Each one is made of 2 corn tortillas and enough filling to make a 2nd taco out of that bonus tortilla. I had chicken and barbacoa and both were excellent, tacos are topped with diced onions and cilantro except for the chicken, they are topped with lettuce, tomato and crumbled queso fresca cheese and of course lime wedges on the side. They have a pretty extensive menu of real authentic Mexican food, the ladies in the kitchen definitely know how to cook. I don't get to Thomasville often, but I'll definitely stop here any time I'm near by around lunch time. It's not really noticeable, just a small faded sign by the road....Next Stop??? their other place "Taco Corner #1" which is on Main St in High Point...don't even pay attention to the Bates Motel next door.

Rows of booth seating. Nothing fancy but effective

This gringo is very happy. Finally somewhere that can approach the sorts of food I used to get in Texas. Considering its in the middle of podunk North Carolina, that's an accomplishment. You know you're in an authentic place when 8 out of 10 customers are Mexican or Latin American. Outside, the place looks like you're going to die while you're here. You won't! Warning, the hot sauce is HOT! My meal was a great value. I will certainly return. It's worth the drive off the interstate.

La Carreta is a long term, tried and true option in Thomasville. I've been enjoying food here well…read moreover 20 years, and it's consistently good. With fresh choices, a large menu, generous portions, and reasonable pricing, you can't go wrong here. If you're dining in, the chips are fresh and the salsa tasty with just the right amount of spice. The cheese dip is always a winner. The guacamole is not my favorite in terms of consistency (too smooth) but it usually tastes good too. Today's visit was takeout. We got a Grande Burrito and a Burrito Paisa. They were both massive and lasted multiple meals over the week. I'm a huge fan of the Burrito Paisa with the spicy sauce, and it'll make you sweat! I will say it's annoying they add a forced gratuity for takeout orders (they've always charged a container fee, but now add the gratuity.) This isn't uncommon these days, but I still dislike it. I'd love to see the addition of online ordering to keep up with the era. But all told, a great consistent choice that never disappoints me.

We also got an appetizer of corn ribs because... that stuff is delicious. I appreciate the tea being brought in GIANT glasses, as I was never wanting for a refill. I don't see why more places don't do this, what an easy way to relieve your server of a common service pain point. There was also a birthday party while we were there, and let me tell you, the entire restaurant... lights, music, and all... shifts into party mode when it's time to sing that person a song. Pretty impressive. Anyway, back to the food. We did enjoy the corn ribs, but they were pretty messy and difficult to eat. I have seen some examples at other places where the kernels were easier to get at, or you could even eat the husk part because it was so thin. Also, we would have liked a little more, the ribs did not even really add up to a full large ear of corn. The fajitas for two were really good and a huge portion. Very tender meat and veggies. We would have liked to see more pineapple. The chunks were small and a little sparse on the skillet, so in the end, we didn't get much of that tropical flavor. In the end, it wasn't enough to deduct a star as we had an excellent overall experience. Thanks amigos!

I ordered the BOOM BOOM Shrimp Tacos (I think that's what they were called) with beans and rice and the $5.99 margarita. The tacos were REALLY GOOD! I'm definitely going back again when I'm in that area to eat. Every thing was good - the customer service, the food... however that $5.99 margarita.... Let's just say, I understand why it's 5.99 and on special everyday - I'm never ordering that again! lol Everything else - loved it!

In reality, there is a full complement of several Latin American cuisines on offer here, along with some dishes that you would find on a typical Tex-Mex menu. Most of the menu is in English, or has an English explanation, but there were a few items that were only in Spanish that I had to look up quickly on my phone. That was okay by me, as most of it is easy to understand if you've been to several hispanic restaurants in your life. But what is important here is the food, and the food is absolutely delicious, as well as unique enough to make me drive out to Thomasville again sometime so I can try more things! I went with a seafood dish "Camarones al Mojo de Ajo" (Shrimp in a buttered garlic sauce) and let me tell you... I usually avoid shrimp when I am inland because you can get quality and/or quantity issues, but NONE of that was present here. I was presented with a very nice compliment of plump and fresh tasting shrimp in a truly delightful flavorful sauce. I gobbled down every morsel and then proceeded to mop up the sauce with some of their very fresh corn tortillas. My wife had some of their papusas on recommendation of some of the other Yelp reviews, something neither of us have had before. Another big hit. Varieties of different flavors inside a beautiful and pillowy shell. We enjoyed all of this with some of their fresh guacamole, not a mistake at all! Thomasville is a twenty minute drive for us, and there are many many restaurants with one form of southwestern cuisine or another much closer to us... but this place stands out. We will be making more special trips just to come here. Guaranteed.

Once the food was ready the cashier charged me,once I got home my wife told me she paid online...we called the restaurant. The girl was rude from the get go, called my wife a liar, cussed her in both English and Spanish. I went back to the restaurant with a screenshot of the order and receipt of online payment. The same girl insisted I was wrong and that we couldn't have ordered on line. Finally a lady came from the kitchen and told her to give me a refund. The girl tried to give me back $22 dollars of our $28 order...the lady from the kitchen made her give me the correct amount. The service (from the cashier) was the worst I've ever received from anyone in any type of customer service role. Plus the food was bland. If a negative number review was possible, I would be leaving one.

That's why I knew I needed to go back in person, plus the food was just amazing! I ordered the steak sopes, rice and beans, churros and jamaica. The steak was so tender and flavorful, just how I remembered. Also their salsa verde is delicious! The red salsa (in the bottle) is super super hot so you've been warned! Additionally, the salsa that is served with chips is made fresh and taste just right for the average person. The churros were a win for me and I ordered 3! Hot and fresh! Best churros I've ever had! As soon as we entered the restaurant you felt the good vibes with the Spanish music being played in the background. We were greeted with a smile and taken right to a table. There were tortas, chimichangas, etc. When it came time to order the food I decided to go with the tacos. I ordered 1 taco de asada, 1 taco al pastor, and 1 taco de pollo asado. I also got a agua de jamaica (Hibiscus tea) it was also very good and refreshing. While my family and I waited for our food our server brought us chips and salsa which did not disappoint. The tortillas were homemade, the taco was loaded with onions and cilantro, they give you a good amount of limes, some radishes on the side, and bring out 2 different salsas for you to add to your taco if you would like too.
