Very authentic food and atmosphere. The place was filled with Latinos which is always a good sign when you're in a Mexican restaurant. I had a steak burrito and it was outstanding. I'm not usually a fan of Mexican rice, but theirs was fluffy and had lots of flavor. Be sure to ask for their spicier salsas...they're delicious.

Vaquero's Diner is in the location that was occupied by Villa Del Mar which closed a couple of weeks ago, it's right beside Toy R Us on Gate City Blvd in strip shop building with a tire store and a convenience mart. They revamped the inside with a fresh coat of paint and did away with all the crazy decorations that were in here before, they do have about 5 flat screen tv's around the room. The menu is exactly what the name says, half diner and half Mexican food. They offer things like pancakes, waffles, french toast, omelettes and variuos sandwiches and burgers along with a number of Mexican dishes, tacos, burritos and fajitas. I stopped in and had the Pollo Azado which was grilled chicken breast over grilled peppers and onions with beans, rice, guacamole salad and corn tortillas. It came out on a sizzlin' skillet, the chicken was cooked nicely, just a tad under seasoned and the peppers and onions didn't seem seasoned at all, had to put the Corona Bottle salt shaker to use. The rice and beans were rice and beans, though the menu does say they cook their beans daily in the Mexican traditional way. The front of their menu also says the salsa is made throughout the day to ensure "ultimate" flavor. The salsa was pretty good, I added some hot sauce to it, but the chips weren't seasoned at all. Service was good, food this visit was probably more 3.5 stars just because of lack of seasoning. I'll be back to try some other items I'm sure.

My receipt showing I was here.

Don't eat here. Service is very poor, and slow. No refill and then wanted to argue when I said I would pay for another drink. Ordered the chilaquiles, menu clearly states with shredded chicken, was told pick chicken or eggs. I went with eggs, asked for no beans, she reiterated no frijoles and I agreed. They put the beans under 1/4 of the chilliquiles making them useless for me. Waste of $9.59.

Amazing authentic Mexican food! It was worth the 2 mile drive off the interstate. Will definitely go back.

Update for our 2026 annual visit:…read more We ate in this year and the service and ambiance matched the quality of the food we had last year. I have been looking forward to the World Ninja Championships so that I can eat here again and the team did not disappoint. I had the special, chilaquiles supreme and YES! Flank steak butterflied and so tender that I cut through it easily with a butter knife. They make the chips fresh for each order of chilaquiles and you can taste it. Generous amounts of every flavor that went into the meal and I left stuffed! Hands down, my favorite place and I have a feeling we are making a second trip here this year for sure! First impression as you walk in, or look at images of the menu: AUTHENTIC! First impressions when you bite into your food: They nailed the first impression! I had the lingua, tripa, pez, and Pastor tacos. My family had the California burrito, chicken and beef tacos, and the Enchiladas Mexicanos with mole and salsa verde. We also added a side of guac and chips. Guac: thin mixed avocado and perfectly sized chunks mixed in with the tomato and seasonings. An absolute must! The 4 tacos I ate were succulent to say the least. The tripa was thin and crispy, but you could taste the rendered fat in them. It had the texture of perfectly cooked bacon. Al pastor is one of my favorites and this one did not disappoint. Then there was the pez taco that was just the right amount of crispy without being an iota overcooked. At last I ate the lingua taco. It melted in my mouth and I immediately wanted another. I don't even like mole sauce, but I couldn't stop eating the mole enchilada. Aces, hands down. The California burrito was phenomenal and had the perfect amount of each ingredient and a delectable amount of heat and sweet cream sauce. The chicken was obviously hand shredded and had equal amounts of larger chunks of meat and thin pulled pieces to soak up all the flavor in endless nooks and crannies. If you have not been here please do your palate a flavor and stop in. The value far exceeded the price of our meals and we plan on coming here every year when the World Ninia finals rome to town

I left feeling singled out because of my appearance, and the lack of accountability was disappointing. True to its namesake, there are brightly colored folk art designs throughout the restaurant in line with their Mexican heritage. The trees that make it look overgrown from the outside actually serve to allow sunlight while masking the surrounding city, facilitating the transformation that makes you feel like you're in Mexico City. We came at an off-peak time in the afternoon and it was nearly empty. We were seated immediately and the service was prompt and attentive. I was pleased to see some unique menu offerings like Birra Ramen and Sopes that deviate from the standard American-friendly fare in most places. Drinks were good - we had a regular house margarita, a triple berry margarita, and a jalapeño cucumber margarita. All were tasty and I would order again. I tried to order a Mezcalita, since it's not often I see a Mezcal option, but they were out of that particular liquor. We tried to get street corn as an appetizer, which they were also out of. We got cheese and salsa with chips instead. The chips were hot and fresh, the salsa generous with the cilantro, and the cheese bold and warm. For entrees we had the Al Pastor Quesadilla and the Birra Ramen. The quesadilla was good, though the beans on the side were pretty bland. The ramen was a unique and very tasty option, and I was not able to finish such a generous portion. I think I'd leave the cheese out next time since it made some weird textures, but the flavor was great overall. Overall, there are some small things to improve (having menu items in stock, bland beans) and the prices were a bit high, but we had a great experience overall. I'm not often in the area, but I'll certainly eat here again if I am!

Met up with a friend to grab lunch today, and had another great experience. Surprisingly, especially for a Friday, we were the only people there for lunch another small party arrived toward the end of our meal. The hostess/waitress was very friendly and attentive, checking on us, keeping chips, salsa and drinks topped off. I got the lunch ACP, which was quick to come out, and a first for me, it was served with choice of corn or flour tortillas...I opted for flour. The food tasted great, and portion size was perfect, honestly, probably a little more than I should have eaten for lunch, but it will tide me over until dinner. Definitely worth checking out. This spot has an amazing bright and vibrant atmosphere, beautifully decorated with bright colors, a much different look inside then out. I'm sure I'll be back again soon, good food, great, and quick service!

The name Bandito Bodega is extremely accurate, as the store itself is a small and unassuming looking place, with a charmingly decorated interior and some indoor and outdoor seating. It was very convenient to order at the cash register as soon as you walk in, and the staff was very patient and efficient. I adored the unpretentiousness and individuality of the place. It did not need any flashiness or grandeur- just some good food and good vibes. Now the food: WOW I was blown away by the pork belly garlic fried rice. The pork belly was so incredibly fatty and perfectly crispy, the shrimp add-on was juicy and well seasoned, and the fried egg over a bed of DELICIOUS steamy garlicky fried rice was absolutely perfection. And they do NOT skimp on the portions. This heaping bowl was just $15, and it was generously topped with the pork belly. This will easily be a place I plan to frequent often, for the convenience, food, and charm.
