    Carne Asada Tacos
    Jeff B.

Stopped in to Los Porto's on Cinco de Mayo to get some take out tacos and found not only great tacos but a great meat market to try next weekend. The place has a private parking lot that is shared with some additional businesses in the strip mall. The taqueria has your typical grocery store with a small seating area for eating inside. I called our order in and was able to pickup at the checkout counter. I walked to the preparation area to watch the ladies making tacos and fresh tortillas. The meat market is located adjacent to the prep area and has a great selection of seasoned meats and other favorites. I quickly paid for the tacos and headed home with our selections. We ordered carne asada, chicken, and chorizo tacos. The street tacos were reminiscent of the ones we used to get in South Texas and Arizona. They had fresh tortillas and were loaded with meat, cilantro, and onions. A grilled jalapeño came with them as did cucumber slices and salsa rojo and salsa verde. The meats were very well seasoned but the carne asada had a little too much cartilage in some of the tacos. The star of the show was the chorizo. It was well seasoned and had just the right amount of heat. Definitely a new place for our street taco fix. If you are ever in need of a quick take home meal and in the Kernersville area, this is the place to hit.

I came here from a recommendation from a friend that comes here with his reserve unit. I was not disappointed! It was great. Everything is handmade. Even the corn tortillas have that handmade flavor. Great price and great food and it comes quick. I'd rather have this than the chain fried everything places. 100% recommend

The food was good, tacos were good! Came with cooked jalapeño! Salsa was good! Service was fast! Ambiance and vibe was not fancy at all, more like street tacos! But very good street tacos! Will be back!

This is my second time here. It definitely feels like a spot for locals as you have to ask to be guided to your seat, for a menu, etc. The cleanliness of the eating area leaves much to be desired. However, the portions and pricing are quite reasonable. The flavor is good but somewhat mild. Appreciate the spicy salsas and the options! The agua frescas are generous and they let us try before buying.

Anytime a place is good, I make sure to stop back for an encore. That was the case here at Los Potros where you get authentic Mexican food. I stopped in here before my afternoon work shift, and nearly put myself into a food coma! I got the lunch platter with steak as my meat of choice. It came with a small salad, rice, refried beans, and tortillas. I also have a love for their tacos so I got 2 chicken tacos. Everything was delicious as usual. The tacos tasted so fresh that it had me thinking to just get 8 of these bad boys next time and all it a day. The chicken was perfectly seasoned and the cilantros really set them apart for other places. The platter was very good as well. The steak was very well seasoned, and the rice was very flavorful as well. I like how it's mixed with green beans, Lima beans, and corn too. The refried beans had melted cheese on top which did nothing, but help me eat it even faster haha! I washed it all down with papaya juice that was really good as I recommend trying their fruit juices for a beverage instead of a typical soft drink. I'll be back here again for sure, and you all should follow my lead! Adios!

A LOT going on here. =) This is one of those Latin markets where you can buy meat, phone cards, satellite TV, groceries, medicine, hot food... CRAZY! Having lived in So FL for 30 years, this cringa is not put off by establishments where no one speaks English & you have to point, gesture & wing it to communicate. Which is a good thing, because that's how I get by at Los Potros! I love the food here. Bear in mind - they only have a few rundown booths & chairs (not dirty - just not "purty.") They have several choices of $5.00 lunches. For that $5.00, I often get their taco plate, which comes with 4 tacos, & grilled scallions & peppers. These are not your run-of-the-mill tacos. They are soft corn tortillas, with grilled chicken or beef, chopped up. I like everything on them - lettuce, cheese - not cheddar, its queso blanco ( white cheese,) chopped up cucumber & tomato, & pico de gallo. They are PHENOMENAL. I have tried other items on their lunch menu, all good, but the tacos are the best. I am now a frequent customer of their meat/butcher dept. I am not at all put off by the whole, raw pig I often watch them butcher as I order my meat. I have them slice me VERY THIN pieces of sirloin off of the "bolo" to make Pan con Bistec (Cuban Steak Sandwiches, Cuban bread & potato sticks can be found at Lowes, if you are lucky.) I also frequently buy Skirt Steak here. For $4.00/lb, you can't beat it. On Sat & Sun, you can also buy hot meat by the pound - roast pork & beef - it is truly delicious, and inexpensive. They can run out early, so get there before 1PM. So, K-ville residents, be adventurous & try Los Potros - You will not regret it!

Outstanding spot for some real deal authentic Mexican food, the Mexican tacos made with homemade corn tortillas are fantastic, everything is fresh and homemade, all the other items I see folks ordering look awesome as well. This is a little Mexican grocery store with a butchers counter and a grill. They have a limited seating arrangement, maybe 4 cafeteria style booths along the wall and a couple of folding tables with folding metal chairs just in front of the grill and butchers counter, I get my orders to go when I visit. Everyone in here is speaking Spanish including the customers, I'm usually the only non Hispanic person in the place when I've stopped in. Awesome food and great folks working here, definitely worth a visit for some outstanding authentic Mexican treats...like tacos.

We were part of a larger party of couples, approximately 12-14 people in total. Space was reserved in advance on the covered patio which was ready early for the party and the staff was happy to seat us and get drinks started. Overall the restaurant was very clean as well as the restrooms. The reason for 3-stars is I rate Mexican restaurants on three main dishes which should always be outstanding; Al Pastor, Carnitas, and sizzling Fajitas. If there is a failure with any ONE of these menu items the highest rating I can give is 3-stars! For starters the salsa was bland no taste, no hint of cilantro or spice. Some previous reviews mentioned the chips were thin, I didn't find that to be the case during my visit. They were fresh and warm. The fajitas were great, probably some of the best we've had in years. They were well seasoned and the steak & chicken was very tender. The veggies still had some crunch and weren't overcooked. However, there was no guacamole and a small squirt of sour cream. The rice didn't have any flavor on it, no salt..nothing!, But the beans were nicely seasoned and we were glad the beans didn't have cheese on them. However, we had to request the flour tortillas several times. The Carnitas were tender but had absolutely no flavor or seasoning whatsoever. They were just chunks of fried pork tips in grease, probably fried in vegetable oil not the traditional lard and obviously not with sour orange and seasonings. There wasn't a grilled jalapeño or even any pico de gallo on the side, they were very disappointing. We couldn't find Al Pastor anywhere on the menu. And speaking of the menu it was very large with way too many items. You can't possibly do all of these items justice. I recommend they scale the menu down and do a superb job on the customer "favorites" while offering seasonal items for a limited time.

The tacos were not topped when I got them, the meat was in warm tortillas and the chopped onion, lime, and cilantro were in a separate area. I applied the toppings, added lime juice and some of several salsas completed the item. These are good tacos and there is plenty of chorizo in them.
