We drove over 45 mins to try this place, everyone spoke so highly of it. Service was mediocre, I asked the waiter what was good and she said she couldn't tell me. I then asked what do people order most and she answered that question. The beef patty was delicious! Wish I would have ordered one of each type. The curry goat had lots of flavor. The escovitch snapper was over cooked. The veggies on top were spicy and deliciously seasoned. The fish didn't have much flavor outside of the veggies on top of it. Great Jamaican food! I'll definitely be back! read more

I recently ordered from Da Reggae Spot in Greensboro. Here is my 2cents. The barbecue jerk wings were excellent, with a smoky flavor and spicy glaze. The beef patties were also delicious. The crust was perfect, and the filling was flavorful and authentic. I found the Jamaican Conch Fritters to be a bit overcooked, with an unexpected sweetness. The Sweet taste was okay..... It was just overcooked. Most disappointingly was the Ackee and Saltfish plate. The consistency was overly mushy, the inclusion of large cherry tomatoes was unexpected, and the cabbage was undercooked. Sidenote.....the rice and plantains were enjoyable. While I will not be ordering the Ackee and Saltfish again, I would give them a second try and order something else. #GratuityAdded #GreensboroEats #GreensboroJamaicanSpots #DaReggeSpot #GreensboroPlacestotry read more

My favorite local Jamaican spot! You're going to have to wait atleast 30 mins but it's so worth it! My go to is the oxtails with rice and peas & cabbage. Every now & then I will get a side of the jerk wings as well. Thursday they have a really good deal on their jerk wings. I recently saw they now have pasta dishes and even crab boil. I will definitely be trying those out next. read more

This place has NO inside dining. Instead it is take out only. Yet, they have extremely loud Jamaican music playing in their parking lot with houses right next door. If I lived in that neighborhood I'd be p/$$÷d. Total disrespect of the neighborhood. I ordered $60 worth of food to take home. I thought it was interesting that they had a sign that said all customers paying by credit card had to show a driver's license due to the high incidents of fraud. However, no one asked me for one when I paid. Yet, I had stood in line behind at least 10 people and they showed one. Hmmmm. The front counter is absolutely cluttered in tacky signs. Ugh. I also didn't like the fact that all the employees were wearing masks. You could not hear them or identify them. After placing your order, they take your name and phone number to text your order is ready. There were 3 chairs you could sit at inside. Although the heat outside was horrendous, not everyone could stay inside where the AC is to wait for their order. Now the food: I got the chicken meat pie (very good), beef meat pie (good), cod fritter (ok). The jerk chicken wings were good, but not spicy. My husband ordered the bbq chicken and it was ok. I got the red snapper and it was just ok. I got the rice and beans, but it didn't have any flavor. Overall, ok place if you just want something to eat, but I've had much better Jamaican food at lots of places. I'd skip this place, especially if you want to eat at a restaurant. read more

Take out | Dinner | $20-30 Listen ... I have experienced the hype! My partner and I both ordered oxtails; rice and peas, cabbage, and fried plantains were included. The order was placed around 8:20 p.m. and was received around 9:10 p.m - Completely reasonable for authentic Jamaican takeout. When we entered the waiting area to pay, they were well packed with customers. The restaurant smelled amazing throughout the parking lot and inside. Many authentic drinks available to purchase, from personal 20oz to liters. The waiting area was on the smaller side, with a few seating available. Their dining room has been closed for some time as well, which I do find an inconvenience. While waiting for your order, do listen out for your name or order number to be called. Personally, I recommend ordering ahead and setting a realistic expectation regarding wait time; at-least 30 minutes. Our drive home was roughly twenty minutes away and the food remained its temperature. It was phenomenal! Everything served was cooked perfectly. First time trying plantains, and oh were they yum! Definitely order yourself a side of beef patty. It has the great amount of spice to it. I was very impressed with this visit and hope to be back soon. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4 Recommended dishes: Rice and Peas, Beef Patty, Oxtail Parking space: Somewhat difficult to find parking Parking options: Free parking lot Parking: I would say there is plenty of parking, but due to the demand of the business and waiting times, parking is limited. You will have some difficulty finding spot. read more

Everything i get here is excellent!! I have never been disappointed. Seasoned to perfection and always reminds me of my heritage!!

The dining setting is so pretty and the vibe is amazing. When me and my mom and daughter walked in, it did take a little bit for somebody to come to the front, but she was in the bathroom. so I have no complaints the portion was a lot, and the food was hot. I loved it didn't take long to come out the service was amazing We will continue to dine in usually we just do takeout They be busy almost every day they're open, especially with take out. Wait until the end! How does it look? The chicken wasn't dry, but wasn't juicy either. It's right there on the edge of maybe sitting out. Then to add to the mystery, wasn't even warm. You could tell it at least was grilled, but the jerk taste wasn't about anything. I tasted the grill more than the jerk. There was a sauce on the side in a little cup, but it wasn't anywhere close to jerk. For the kicker, I always do no tip when I 1st visit a restaurant & I do takeout. Here's what the cashier did, I selected no tip, but I noticed the screen wouldn't close. She asked if I wanted a receipt, I said no since I ordered online & it gave me a receipt then. I knew something was up by the feeling I got when I walked away. HOW ABOUT A 20% TIP ADDED TO MY PURCHASE WHEN I SELECTED NO TIP AT CLOSE OUT! FORGET CARD COMPANY, I'M REPORTING LEGALLY! I would give them a -0 if that was even possible. They are very rude. I asked to speak to a manager. The manager wasn't even courteous enough to come speak with me. They told me that my order would be ready at 11:30 PM I got there at 11:45 PM and they told me it still wasn't ready. I got it at 11:59. I asked if for my wait since they made me come in the day before to make the payment of $42 if they would at least give a drink or something for my wait because this was something I was doing for my students for their lunch in which they would not get to enjoy at that time. The person at the counter went back to get the management and management refused and offered to refund me and keep the order that I waited extra time for. I will never visit this establishment again or recommend it to anyone ever. read more

I have been wanting oxtails for some time now but every time I would drive by this place, it is ALWAYS packed. I decided to go a little earlier today and that was the perfect idea! I placed an order for Oxtails, Jerk chicken wings and a Veggie Pattie. They are not allowing dine in at the moment nor can you wait inside for your order. For safety reasons, once you place your order, they ask you for a number and tell you that they will call you once your order is ready. Also note, they are only allowing 5 people inside at a time. read more

Don't worry bout a thing, mon! Keep it irie and head over to Da Reggae Cafe to fulfill all your caribbean food desires! There isn't a vast amount of Caribbean food available in the Greensboro area, but Da Reggae Cafe is one of the longest standing places. They are now in a much larger and attractive location in the building that was formerly Akashi sushi. If youre looking for a hearty meal of meat, rice, beans, and other accoutriments... this is definitely a great place to go. I had the pot roast with rice, beans, cabbage, and an order of roti. The pot roast itself was very tasty. Rich and deep flavors in the gravy, tender meat, melts in your mouth kind of stuff. The cabbage was probably my second favorite part, followed by the beans in rice which were just fine. The roti was not my most favorite version. A little bland compared to others I have tried, but it worked fine as a tortilla for all the good stuff on my plate. read more

Some of us not from here, but I know this is passing in Greensboro for those who never been pon yard. Rice needs salt and love. The cabbage is good but you'd think it was expensive. Sad meal. Ok so I was introduced to this place around a month ago and let's just say I've been back 3 times.. lol it's that good I ordered the bbq jerk chicken plate a beef patty and cocoa bread and also tried the regular jerk chicken plate with plantains and rice and peas. I would've given it 5 stars but the cocoa bread was probably the worst I've ever had. Reason being it was literally just a slab of white bread no flavor or any substance besides white bread. Outside of that everything else I ordered was very delicious I'm impressed and I'm a regular now so that says a lot good job Reggae Cafe. read more

The food is excellent here. They serve the absolute best meat Pattie's in town. Authentic Jamaican cuisine at its best.

Da Reggae Cafe had a steady stream of patrons going to and fro as I sat in my truck and perused the menu. I took this as a good sign. The order taker had me at "spicy" when she described the jerk chicken as such, so I ordered it along with its accompaniments: beans and rice, cabbage, and fried plantains. I also ordered a bowl of Jamaican seafood bisque. Jerk chicken: outstanding. Wonderfully, exotically, and boldly seasoned, it was delicious from skin to bone. Beans and Rice: very good with perfect consistency. It had some alluring spices that I could not conclusively identify. I have to admit that the thought occurred to me that it tasted boxed, but it was still really good. Cabbage: lightly steamed so that it retains its crispness, yet it is by no means underdone. It was unique, perfect, and delicious. Fried plantains: there were only two chunks, a real bummer, but they were very good. Jamaican seafood bisque: peppery and delicious, this is really more of a vegetable soup and bares little resemblance to what most people think about when they think of bisque--because it is not creamy. Seafood flavor came through in the background, but there was actually very few actual seafood chunks. It was very tasty nonetheless. During these unusual times, this is top tier Jamaican food perfect for carryout while your enemy, the SARS-CoV-2 virus, prowls around like a roaring lion seeking whom it may devour. I was very disappointed. I placed an order at about 5:50 pm, waited in line until about 7: 26 pm only to be told that everything I ordered at about 5:50 pm was no longer available. Why did I preorder in advance to be told a hour and half later my order is no longer available? read more

Just what I needed. Portions are big so be hungry. Might take a minute but worth the wait.

I decided that I should give this little place another shot, and this time I tried some different dishes since the first experience was not a total success. I did repeat the Pepper Shrimp app ($4), and the Fried Plantains ($2.25), and the Irie Mon Curried Goat ($10) because the first try on these was pretty good. To these, I added Rockaway Oxtail ($11) and an order of Jamaican Fish Bisque ($4.95). Each of these dishes was very good to excellent, and I'd reorder all of them. This time the Pepper Shrimp was larger, and there was plenty of spice, loved it. The Irie Mon Curried Goat was very, very nice, especially when mixed all in with the rice, though a mild curry, all in all (still looking for the peas in the rice) - and the portion size could use some work, . The Jamaican Fish Bisque was outstanding, flavors sharp and fresh, with the slight sweetness from the fish being very pleasant, very noticeable. The Rockaway Oxtail dish was solid, cooked to a dark, rich brown color, and full of flavor, and very tender. The Plantains are nice, though a crispy outside crust is my preference. I thoroughly enjoyed the several meals we got from this order. This experience is exactly why I will usually return to a restaurant where I've had a less than outstanding meal and/or service - anybody can have a bad day - mine was in late fall, 1982. If the quality I enjoyed in this meal continues, I will be a regular here - obtaining that consistency is the biggest challenge most small restaurants face. This is a case where I'd give a 1/2 star if that option was available. Now on to the next order, with fingers crossed! read more

After searching for a nice Caribbean restaurant to eat at, I was pleased to have found this particular place after trying several other Caribbean spots in the area that were not so pleasing. I ordered the oxtail meal but did not care for the cabbage, but everything else was great. The oxtails were amazing and had the flavor profile that I was used to. I have been ordering from DRC for a few months now, and if there is something I would recommend, it is that they get more organized. They tend to be all over the place and mix up orders. I would also like to see them more personable with customers. It would be nice if they were to open the other side or enlarge, if possible, the waiting area because it's a hassle at times having to wait in your car until you receive a phone call stating your order is ready. There have been times I did not receive a call and just went back inside the establishment to check for myself. Irrespective of the latter part of this review, I definitely recommend DRC, and they will have my continued support as a customer. read more

This spot has tasty and authentic Jamaican cuisine. I am so happy I found this place that reminds me of home(Jamaica). The curry goat was well seasoned with just the right level of spice. The steam fish had all the right types of vegetables. Codfish fritters were just the right size, and I love the spice in the pepper shrimp! It is now a staple place for us to order from. Been coming here for years. Great food 15-25 min wait is well worth it. Authentic Jamaican 5 star!!!

Gonna give 5 stars because the food here is SO MF'ING GOOD but the service and the wait for food is abysmal. Like, 1-star level abysmal. Like, 40 minutes wait after arriving at the restaurant and walk-up orders get their food before you, abysmal. That only happened one time, but the wait is still a miserable experience. I heard they moved to the current space from a smaller space. I can't imagine what it was like BEFORE. They're lucky the food is so fantastic. ANYWAY, there's something here for everyone. While vegetarians have a single jerk callaloo dish and salads to choose from, they will be treated to fresh vegetables. Jerk barbecue wings are bomb, codfish fritters (crispy deep fried croquettes) and pepper shrimp (sauteed with bell peppers, onion and sharp spices) are bomb but the first must-try on the menu is the Jamaican patty. It's a warm half moon-shaped pocket of flaky pastry filled with a spicy paste of beef, chicken, vegetables or cheese. Next, is the coco bread. The bread is SUPA fresh, made with coconut milk and is soft, yeasty and a slightly sweet pillow cloud of bread. It is often split in half and stuffed with a Jamaican patty to form a sandwich. I highly recommend trying it. You have to prepare the sandwich part yourself, but it's SO GOOD. The most ubiquitous Jamaican dish, jerk chicken, comes in a few different forms on the menu: jerk, barbecued, fricasseed and curried. The oxtails are more tail than oxen, but they are stewed to perfection so that the cartilage has become gelatinous and silken. You're going to want to gnaw and suck every ounce of flavor out of those oxtails. Trust me. Each meal comes with cabbage, soft slices of roasted plantains and your choice of white rice or rice and pigeon peas. The cabbage is finely shredded and enrobed in a light, spiced curry. And all plates are garnished with a sprig of parsley and a grape tomato; a thoughtful, fresh touch to accompany the mostly brown food. The restaurant is very busy, so I HIGHLY suggest ordering online or calling in your order to reduce your wait time. read more

Food was tasty but not hot, more like room temperature. I ordered the stew chicken, rice & peas, plantain and cabbage. However, when I got home which is 30mins away I noticed I had four small pieces of chicken. I paid $12 for a plate so I expected my plate to be a little more full. I did come later in the evening (7pm) but that shouldn't make a difference because if they didn't have enough then they should have informed me that they were out of stew chicken or asked if I still wanted the order. My son went 2 weeks before and ordered the same plate which was more than I had gotten. He was able to eat and have leftovers with at least 3 pieces of chicken left for the next day. Update I read another review that stated the food was salty. I agree. When you first taste the food it had a nice taste but when you continue to eat it you can taste the heavy salt. read more
