I genuinely wanted to enjoy and support this business. My daughter specifically wanted to try this place for Memorial Day, and I truly wanted this to be a great experience for her and for our family. The concept is cute, and the Jamaican-inspired branding and vibe have potential. Unfortunately, the actual experience was disappointing. We ordered two rolling cheesesteaks, mac & cheese, a jerk chicken combo (after being told they didn't have enough shrimp for the original order and asking us to substitute), plus drinks. The first issue was pricing. Our total came to almost $60, and the math didn't seem right based on the posted pricing. When I asked for a receipt and questioned the charge, getting the pricing corrected became far more difficult than it should have been before I finally received an $8 adjustment. That alone left a bad impression. Another concern was cleanliness. While waiting, I personally noticed and photographed visible buildup/staining in the food holding/display areas, which did not create a clean or appetizing impression. As for the food: The rolling cheesesteaks were decent, but very greasy. The mac & cheese was extremely underwhelming. My husband, daughter, and I all agreed it was greasy and lacked the flavor and quality we expected. The jerk chicken combo was also very oily/greasy. Drinks were ok. For nearly $60, this was simply not the quality or experience we expected. What makes this especially disappointing is that we truly wanted to enjoy this place and support it. I was looking for a good Jamaican oxtail dinner. Unfortunately, I got a dinner full of bones with meat gravy over rice. I got the oxtail dinner with cabbage, and rice& peas. I went to this place because I've seen it on TikTok decided to try it out. Looked at the reviews they all were good. $25 I paid for this dinner just to have mostly bones and small pieces of gravy meat. No whole oxtail at all. There are metal shelves that your order will be placed on when complete, if you are not there yet. I ordered on a Friday night, the estimate for when my order would be ready was not accurate. I was quoted 15 minutes, in my confirmation, for my food to be ready, I live 20 minutes away. In total, it took 45 minutes to get my food. Ordered the oxtail combo but did not get to enjoy the food, it was expensive so I had to eat it because I was hungry. The reason for the review is that the Food was covered/soaked in oil. I was going to say something but I declined to say anything to the staff. The reason I declined was when I first entered, a customer was relating a bad previous experience he had, but he asked very nicely to the cashier who he was speaking to, who do business owners get offended when a customer complains. This guy was American. I'm a West Indian and I knew exactly what he was talking about. So instead of risking the attitude of the staff and god forbid getting "extra sauce" in my food, I cut my losses. What was good. I downloaded their app it's was well put together. They took my number and texted me when the food was finished. As there is really no place in the place to wait. They sent me a survey to my phone number to ask about my experience. I gave them the above review excluding the part about the other customer feeling like he offended the staff. The restaurant had a nice professional ambiance and was clean. The above things were good, and it seems the owners want to provide a pleasant experience for their customers. But none of that matters if I don't enjoy the food. The jerk chicken was insanely flavor and had such a punch of heat without being overpowering. I could have eaten a whole tray of these on my own! Never again. This was the worse Caribbean food I've ever tasted. I recently moved from Brooklyn and grew up eating all type of food from the West Indies. I ended up throwing away all of my food except the jerk wings. The jerk wings had a nice spice but could have been cooked longer. The rice and peas was chewy, and over cooked. The rasta pasta was dry and tasted more like a cajun pasta with baby shrimp. The creamy sauce and peppers that I'm used to were missing from the dish.
