I was so excited to be back at Dame's! We stopped in for lunch ready for a good meal. It wasn't too busy, so, we were seated right away. The service was amazing. I believe our server was named Trent. He was great. The food was highly disappointing. We ordered our food and it took all of 7 minutes for them to be walking out with our food. I knew then it was going to be some bs. The biggest disappointment was that the food wasn't fresh. The chicken seemed like it was fried at an earlier time and then warmed up. It also appeared that they may have dumped it in grease to give that fresh look but nope. Come to find out, the grease was old. The waffle was like rubber. It definitely wasn't fresh. The theme carried over with the guests I was with as well. We all left highly disappointed and feeling cheated. It's so unfortunate because we had a great experience our first time visiting.
Went to Dame's for lunch today and it was great. Our server (Dakota?) was phenomenal! I got an original waffle with apple butter and a chicken cutlet with a side of Mac and cheese. I was a little disappointed that the apple butter was just regular ole Smuckers but it was delicious nonetheless. The chicken was fantastic, perfectly crunchy and moist at the same time. We got in just in time because the wait time jumped to 30 minutes soon after we arrived but it would have been worth it. Definitely recommend if you are looking to try something new!
Dakota was our waitress and she was so cute and food dope, went over the menu with us and told us how we could mix and match options. I think I ordered the Classy Hen but opted for a sweet potato waffle and the chocolate hazelnut spear. I also got a side of southern grits! It was just ok, I expected the waffle to taste like a sweet potato pie and it didn't but they'd really be doing something if it did! The chicken was hot and fresh but too much breading which all just fell off and was left on my plate. I had to ask for my grits but it was literally just what appeared to be a condiment bowl worth of grits. It was a relatively quiet place, music was playing but not overbearingly loud. The restroom was clean and I only spent about $20. We parked along the street, the sign read four hour parking but there were no meters.
Dame's is amazing! The waffles and the fried chicken both taste perfect. They have fun-flavored smears and syrups too to add on top of your waffles which pair perfectly with the salty crispy chicken. It is always packed which is a good sign but they get your seated as quickly as they can. Their mimosas are a little sweet for me, but they have tons of other drink options!
We built our own plate with 3 drumsticks, a classic waffle with regular butter, cashew caramel, and a side of squash and onions. The drumsticks were perfectly seasoned and crispy, the side was flavorful, and the sauce tied everything together nicely. Friendly service and a delicious meal overall. The ambiance was simple but pleasant, with beautiful music playing in the background that added a nice touch to the experience.
I met a friend at this oldie, but goodie place! It's on the outer skirts of downtown Greensboro in a quaint neighborhood reminiscent of Burbon St. I scheduled a reservation 2 days in advance as it was move-in weekend at local colleges. This helped us be seated right away by the kind hostess. Our waitress came to the table immediately to take our drink order and we ordered our food briefly after. I can't for the life of me remember the name of what I ordered, but it was 3 wings and a sweet potato waffle with maple smear and ranch sauce. My sides were mac and cheese and collards. I was allowed to customize my waffle, smear (flavored butter), and sauce (or syrup). The chicken is cooked to order, so it did take a while for it to come out. But when it did, it was hot and our orders were correct. The chicken could have been a little more crispy, but it was flavorful. The mac and cheese is unique in that it is heavily seasoned with rosemary. I enjoy this, but if you're not a fan of rosemary, I don't think you'll enjoy it. The greens were on the spicy side, but good. Not the best greens I've had, but good. The waffle was ok. It was a little too dense and the sweet potato flavor wasn't there. This is what earned the review 4 out of 5 stars. Overall it was a great visit. If you'll be visiting Greensboro and are looking for some brunch or soul food, add this spot to your list!
Came in and had a delicious lunch this Tuesday around noon. Dakota was my sever and she was great. She was knowledgeable of the menu and very attentive. As I dined I enjoyed the r&b instrumentals playing in the background. Ordered the build your own chicken and waffles with a side of Mac and cheese. The pineapple waffle is delicious and reminded me of a sweet pineapple upside down cake. The chicken was hot and juicy and the seasoned skin peeled right off. The Mac is ok. Creamy and seasoned. Great lunch! Thank you!
Lovvveeed the food here! We were visiting for a wedding, staying at the Marriott which was about 10 minutes away; we ate here twice! Party of 3 and we all wanted more and may I add, we were visiting from Chicago where I truly believe we have some of thee best food! We ordered chicken and waffles... we had legs, wings, cutlets, original and pumpkin waffles, greens, potato salad, Mac & cheese, grits and eggs. ALL delicious and seasoned to perfection! The grits were my least favorite, they tasted like they were seasoned too, that's not my preference. Mimosas were uniquely made, with many flavors; they were boozy, fresh and tasty! That potato salad was to die for! The whisky glaze was my favorite! Visit, eat and enjoy!
My how things can change in 9 years. When we (my wife and I) used to live here many years ago, Dame's was in my top 3 restaurants in the area. We went here almost every week. It was on that list of "If all else fails, go to Dame's!" Food, service, atmosphere... everything was great. Towards the end of our first stint living here that many years ago, kind of felt the service becoming less than impressive compared to what it use to be. We moved back to the area a few months ago, so we of course wanted to put this back into our rotation. Went here a few times over the months prior to this review. Since we've been back, every time we left we weren't as satisfied as we use to be. The food didn't taste the same, service had been hit or miss as well. After our most recent trip and experience is when I decided to write this review... Came here on this particular visit and was told there was a 20 minute wait, not a problem. Got a text that we were placed on the wait list. My wife was in the mood for a coffee so we walked to grab one. Was back within 15 minutes. Checked the wait list on the way back and saw we were next some we did a speed walk back. It was crowded inside, so we sat outside to wait for the alert our table was ready. 20 min became 40, 40 became over 60 minutes. I'm a very patient and understanding person, but something wasn't making sense. As I was about to go in the restaurant to see what was happening, I got a text saying I had been kicked off the waitlist. So of course that got me thinking, were we just sitting here for no reason without having an up table coming for us? When I went inside to tell them what happened, someone just went to a table, put two menus on it, and told them to sit us there. No acknowledgment of what happened or even an apology for the mistake. Technology isn't perfect, and I get it, however, as a customer who had been here many times in the past or even if I wasn't and it was my first time, you should still be courteous and respectful to people when something goes wrong and they want to come to your establishment. To add, the food once again was meh, not amazing like it once was. Food used to come out piping hot and smelled fresh. I remember being able to see the steam come out of the chicken wings when I would break them apart. Came out so fresh. Now the food comes out room temperature and the wings look they were cooked in old, non fresh grease. I can clearly see the difference between the first picture I took here nine years ago and the most recent one for this review. I hope things can get back to the way they use to be here because this place was great. I don't want to give up on this place and would love to still support, but day old tasting chicken wings and lukewarm waffles won't keep me coming.

I ordered the classic chicken and waffles, which came with four whole wings and a waffle, plus a side of mac & cheese. The chicken was fried crispy and flavorful, and I really appreciated the different spreads for the waffle--a nice touch that made it even better. The mac & cheese was decent but could've used more seasoning. Service was smooth--we were seated within 5 to 10 minutes. The only downside is that parking is limited, so be prepared for that. If you're in the area and craving Southern comfort food, this spot is definitely worth a visit!
You don't come to the south without getting chicken and waffles!?! Simply put, this spot smacks! The chicken has crispy skin and isn't over salted. The shmears give you endless waffle flavors. I recommend the blueberry and peach ones and the tea, well you're in the south - sweet and delicious. We had great service and they took the time to explain the menu. This location sits on a quaint corner on MLK with beautiful buildings surrounding.
If this was just for the food, it would be a 5, so I'll start there. Excellent food and we loved everything we got. The waffles were delicious and the chicken was cooked well. The schemers were all delicious! As for the service we came around 3-4pm and there was only one other table occupied in the building. They sat us at the very end of room under a speaker with the music much too loud. We requested another table since it was loud. It appeared to be an inconvenience but they reseated us. The hostess was quiet and we waited roughly 20 minutes after we were done eating waiting for our check, the other table had left and we were the only ones in the place. It's one thing to wait for good food, another to wait for a bill.
Dames had been on my list since I moved to greensboro. When my friends were in town visiting, we made sure it was on the itinerary! We made a reservation since it seemed like a popular place, and found so many things on the menu that we wanted to try. I had a passion fruit mimosa and the Carolina Cockerel. I'm not a fan of spicy food, so they let me substitute the drizzle for something else. The chicken was super juicy and the Mimosa was delicious! I'm not normally a grits fan, but I tried it and was very happy with that decision. The atmosphere was generally pretty casual, but I enjoyed the jazz music being played. Service was good, no complaints there! I would definitely recommend and return!
I meant to check in but the food was so good I honestly couldn't do anything but eat. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits and every bite was full of flavor. They served a generous portion with plenty of grits, jumbo prawns, and sausage. I normally don't eat fried chicken but had to taste the wings. The best I've eaten thus far. A nice crispy crunch, with tender juicy meat on the inside, and perfectly seasoned. My son ordered the chicken and waffles and he enjoyed every bite. I loved the art on the walls, the music was incredible, and the service was excellent. I had a great experience and cannot wait to return. read more
I had a opportunity to place a DoorDash order the week before Dame's closed it's Greensboro location. Per usually the food was delicious! I will especially miss the smears that go on the waffles. I am sad that they closed. read more

Let me say that the service was top notch! Friendly, welcoming, prompt, and so professional. We came in during the middle of the week and enjoyed two of their entrees. I had the salmon salad and the salmon was cooked perfectly! The only downfall was the actual salad... I wish it was more than lettuce, cheese, and cucumbers. I just think a different base would have suited the meal better. The mans had one of their chicken and waffles with a side of grits. The waffle and smear were great! He said the grits had a lot of pepper which overpowered it. The chicken was cooked perfectly. Overall a solid place to grab a meal! They prices were up there at above $17 for any meal. read more

Cutlets cooked perfectly and waffle made spot on! The schmears were a new twist and the drizzles were creative and delicious. Each food item could be a standalone entree. Food is amazing and staff was super friendly! Will now be on my list as a must- stop when in Greensboro! Nice work, Dame! read more
What can go wrong with a brunch menu built around the concept of chicken & waffles. Oh just wait for it! We visited this location on our lunch break. I was looking forward to visiting the Greensboro location of Dame's. Our wait wasn't long, our waitress took our drink and meal orders all at once. We were getting off to a good start. Then, the food arrived. Dun Dun Duuuun! Yea it wasn't what I was expecting. I ordered the Cutlet with collard greens and Mac & Cheese. The breading was dark. I mean like the oil must've been old dark. The drizzles that they offered did help cut the texture of the cutlet breading, however I was disappointed and did not finish my meal. One of my teammates ordered the chicken leg meal. Her chicken looked like it died again before being plated. Please view pics at this time. Just take a moment! Yea...those are chicken legs. We couldn't believe it either. The staff was friendly and the ambiance of the restaurant was nice. The exterior reminds me of the French Quarter in New Orleans. HOWEVER, I think that it would be in everyone's favor to focus on the food. Make it tasty and appealing to the eye not a kitchen nightmare. read more

Sunday @2pm- wait time 30 mins, seated at 232 Sunday brunch - food came out quicker than expected. Food was good, chicken and waffles was nothing special other than their different shmears that made it unique. I enjoyed the shrimp and Grits, it was very flavorful. Out waitress was very attentive but felt a little rushed on ordering Other than that it was a good experience read more
Dame's is a good go to for a nice weekend breakfast. I was pleasantly surprised this past weekend and was able to be seated right away. Usually wait times can soar. There was a bit of confusion on who our waiter would be resulting in some delays but once settled our orders were taken and it did not take long for our food to arrive. Everything was prepared correctly and seasoned nicely. Great casual brunch place on the Edge of downtown Greensboro. read more

Best detours sometimes lead to the best food in town. That is what happened when we had to choose another destination for lunch. So glad it directed us to Dame's Chicken and Waffles. The staff were very courteous and caring. They even helped us pack up leftovers to take back to our hotel. If you find yourself near this location, it is worth the stop read more

We really enjoyed our time at Dame's today! It was no wait for our party of three. Our waitress was very nice and timely. The food was made fresh and was full of flavor. Although it was slightly busy we were still able to enjoy the music and conversation. read more
I hadn't been back to Dame's since my last review (over a year ago). However, I was convinced into giving them another try. This time, the food was much better! The sweet potato waffle was yummy, the chicken was cooked thoroughly & served hot, the collards were ok- lots of stems and lukewarm. Our waitress was attentive however we noticed other staff-some in the kitchen, on their phones, which might've been the reason why we waited over 30 minutes for our food- even though the place was virtually empty when we arrived (around 5:30 on a weekday). I couldn't justify more stars due to the unnecessary wait & the fact that one of the members in my party had chicken which was not completely cooked. Better visit than last time but definitely room for improvement. read more

Dames has been a frequent of mine for over a decade now - meaning they are ever consistent and have just down right amazing chicken and waffles! It's been a while since I've dined with them so they had an entire new menu which isn't a bad thing. There are a lot more options on this menu than their previous menu. A friend and I decided to get our own plates and then split a plate so we could try a little of everything. There were components of each dish that we liked. We want panko crusted wings with k pop drizzle on a sweet potato waffle! Which is entirely possible when they serve brunch because you can build your own chicken and waffle combo! But all three dishes were amazing the way they came too. The service was great! Our waitress was super friendly and our food came out pretty fast for a group of 6. I'll definitely be back in the near future! read more

SMEARS- flavored butters for your waffle!! Who knew ? This trip I had strawberry, but I would order more than one if I were you! WAFFLES- the choices make it hard to pick one. The gingerbread waffle was more than yummy! WINGS- the chicken wings are some of my favorite, perfectly fried and crispy. The flavor with no sauce is delicious. However the drizzle options are all really good! BREAKFAST - for dinner is the best! Don't pass up on the sides- collard greens were very good. read more
Dames, you're one of a kind! Tucked away downtown is Dames - a staple restaurant doing chicken and waffles the right way. They have many different options for chicken from tenders, to wings to legs and a variety of waffles that is unmatched! Their service is always amazing and their staff is willing to answer any of the questions you have about their many sauces, drizzles, smears, and combos! We went with a variety of combos but there were a few favorites - the gingerbread waffle and Panko chicken with K Pop drizzle were divine. It had an umami from the soy sauce, heat from the breading and chili and sweetness from the waffle - YUM! The shrimp and grits were also really well done. The grits were thick and creamy and the shrimp and andouille sausage were spicy but not overwhelming. It's absolutely worth a visit when you're passing through Greensboro! read more
Overall as a first time experience getting take out. The service was nice & friendly, the atmosphere was nice. Food wise the chicken wings needed more flavor-seasoning relying on the sauce to give it more shouldn't be the case. The waffle wasn't bad it was ok. I wish it was more crispy, and the chocolate spread was good. The cheese grits are good but it is just grits and chesse, the mac & cheese tasted good. I would try this again to see a different item. Instead of the chicken & waffles. I've heard good and bad about this place so I would give the food a 3.5 out of 5. Try for yourself & see if you like it. read more
I got the barnyard honcho. My favorite part of it was the chicken and waffle. They were seasoned really well. I choose the strawberry cream shmear (butter) for my waffle. We had a great waitress. There is a small outdoor seating section. People were willing to wait 45 minutes and longer to dine here. That's a good indicator of how good the food is at a restaurant. Dames catering was fantastic! We had the full menu. Chicken & waffles and shrimp and grits! Classic waffles, sweet potato waffles and vegan waffles, fresh cut fruit, squash & zucchini, collard green and macaroni & cheese. They arrived on time, everything was cooked and flavored well. The staff Chris was very professional and helpful and everything tasted good! Would recommend them for your next catering event. The brought all the utensils and condiments needed. read more

This is my fave joint in all of Greensboro so far! While downtown, my family told me about a chicken and waffles place that has a very good vegetarian cutlet which turned out to be Dames. I most definitely had to try it. We arrived early around noon probably 10-15 mins after they opened. I'm sure we missed the normal rush but I can tell this place is booming during the peak hours. My server who was phenomenal by the way, recommended the sweet potato waffle which absolutely slapped. I give it a 9/10. In-fact, I give them both a 9 for being on point. The What Da Cluck Chick'n Fried Cutlet wasn't bad, however I give it a 5 but I loved the Vanilla-Almond Shmear. I highly recommend both the Shmear and Waffle. I'm going back for seconds in the next few days. The next time I may switch it up and grab the ginger bread waffle. If visiting Greensboro, make your way downtown and check out Dames! read more
I'm giving a four-star rating to this restaurant based on the excellent fried chicken and waffles. The service was really good as well and I like the atmosphere. It's kind of like being in a restaurant in New Orleans. The two items I did not like about it was the cheese grits that came as a side were pretty watery and did not have a lot of flavor. The second thing was that with the excellent chicken and waffles I had to get a commercial and cheap syrup. The advertise syrup but you have to pay extra for it. I don't use that much syrup on my waffles so I don't understand why I have to pay three bucks extra for something that they should serve with their delicious food. I would recommend this place, but if the owner see my review I would definitely recommend that they adjust the syrup issue.... Just my opinion on it. read more
What a great vibe here. Loud jazzy music playing in the background and good food. Love the ambiance. We split a chicken and waffle plate and I ordered an extra waffle for $8. Came with a delicious side of a sweet butter schmear. It was plenty for two people and we really enjoyed it. Chicken was tender and waffle had a great batter, little on thin side, but good. So here is my one complaint, if you're going to offer amazing gourmet chicken and waffles, don't charge almost $3 for your homemade maple syrup...why not offer a little of it on the side with the dish so it's a complete dish. We didn't want to pay extra so we used the commercial tiny to go cup syrup offered on the table and it took away from the whole experience and brought down the quality of the dish. And, (ok two complaints now) it's a pricey place, it was about over $15 for chicken and waffles and other dishes on the menu were close to $18. I've gone to James Beard awarded restaurants in Raleigh and chicken and waffles we're less pricey than they were. read more
