Good, but not up to previous wonderful experiences. I LOVE their baby back ribs because they are always tender with great flavor. For my birthday, we ordered baby back ribs (I usually order some sauce on the side because I like my ribs to be saucy-my bad) with the French fries and beans, stuffed mushrooms, cajun chicken pasta and a side caesar salad to go. Pick up experience was not great. We parked in the to go parking only spot and waited-I don't know how long but the sign said to wait and that they would bring it out to us. Eventually an employee came out the door and turned back inside and told them that they had a customer in parking lot. (I'm thinking food is probably getting old.) The female employee did something sweet for my birthday. Yay! Once home, food Was cold. We had to nuke and bake in order to eat. Fries obviously were cold and chewy and baking them didn't improve anything. I wouldn't have ordered fries, but they only offer fries and baked beans as sides with an option to swap a side salad for one or soup for additional $. Pasta was great after nuking it. My favorite stuffed mushrooms were soggy and stuffing spilling out of them. I tried to crisp them up again in oven and it was just awful. So I have had so many awesome experiences ordering in the restaurant, picking up and being delivered. It's just a shame that this was my birthday celebratory dinner this year. We love coming to Darryl's whenever we're in town. The decor is so comfortable, the staff is excellent, and the food is fantastic. Our server, Jan, took great care of us today! We were treating a friend to an early birthday dinner and she chose the same meal as me, but different sides. We both got the pork chops, she had mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli, and I chose baked beans and slaw. The pork chops were to die for!! We both had them add bbq sauce while cooking and some on the side. The pork was as tender as a perfectly cooked steak and the flavor was wonderful. I look forward to the leftovers I brought home. My spouse got a full rack of baby back ribs so she'd have leftovers too with baked beans and mac n cheese. She's never had their mac n cheese before and commented how good it was. Good service, decent food, very interesting decor. Didn't quite hear the history of the interior design but there was plenty to look at here. I tried the house pimento (definitely has a kick!) with the house crackers (dry, no personality). I took the beef ribs to go and was impressed with how tender they were. They practically shredded in my fingers when I pinched the meat off the bone. The bbq sauce was on the tangy side, not bad though I prefer mine to be a tad sweeter. Cash helped me and was attentive and efficient. I got to pick where we celebrated Friday the 13th and not only did I choose Darryl's, I kinda dictated what our menu plan would be. My motive was to share some items so we'd have room for their famous and delicious Cappuccino Cake. Spoiler alert, we didn't save room and we got the cake to go. I got the flight of Patron Margaritas in memory of my Bestie, Sherry and Hubs got the Pig Pounder Pale Ale. We ordered the stuffed fried mushrooms, and we split the full rack of ribs (yes, they fell off the bone) with baked beans and Mac n cheese and an order of the Cajun fried shrimp with fries. Everything was delicious and we took quite a bit home in To Go boxes. Lexi provided great service and answered all questions. FYI we were so stuffed, we didn't even eat dinner. The service was not good. Our server tried to get us to order one minute after we sat down and we asked for a few minutes to look at our menus. She didn't come back for another 10-15 minutes. I ordered the French Dip sandwich and when it arrived a lot of the Au jus was spilled all over the plate. The sandwich was lacking in flavor, it needed to horseradish and Au jus to taste okay. This is a unique place with thematic settings in different areas. I went in and decided to eat on the patio, it was nice out. I decided to try some unique menu items, so I had their homemade crackers and pimento cheese. The crackers were in fact, a great big homemade thing that was somewhere between matzo and water cracker. It comes out all broken up on a plate and it's very good. The pimento cheese, was a spicy variety served cold, I think that's the way Permento and she should be served. It was delightful. The main dish was a half a rack of pork ribs. I had mine with a creamy coleslaw and a mac & cheese. Both the sides were delightful very good flavor. Nothing over the top nothing substandard, just good homemade sides. The ribs were amazing, they fell off the bone. They were served with a sweet barbecue sauce, but completely would've been fine without it. There was no meat left on the bone when I left because I ate it all. I would recommend this restaurant and I think next time I'm going to eat inside in one of the themed booths. It would be a good date night restaurant or even a special occasion kind of date. It's not fancy it's not pretentious, it's just fun. It is almost as if Darrell's is a national chain that does everything right, and we just haven't heard of it. I mean, there are elements of Applebee's from 40 years ago in there. There's sort of elements of TGI Fridays from 35 or 40 years ago there's even a little bit of Bennigan's thrown in. I hadn't been to Darryl's in several years and given the good reviews on Yelp I was looking forward to going. I was with party of 8 and the first mishap occurred with us having to wait for nearly 45 min to be seated due to a miscommunication about reservations, even though an attempt had been made earlier in the week. Sadly, the only highlight of the evening was our server. She was outstanding--friendly and attentive, despite the restaurant being super busy. As for the food, I ordered the Texas Roadrunner Chicken with mashed potatoes and broccoli. The meal arrived lukewarm, which I tolerated considering how long it had already taken to be seated, place our order, and finally receive the food Did I expect a five-star dining experience? I cannot believe I have lived near Darryl's for over eight years and this is the first time I have been there. I have been missing out for certain. We went to Darryl's during the ACC championship at the First Horizon Coliseum, which meant they were slammed with people after the basketball game. The wait time was 45 minutes to an hour when we arrived, but once we were seated, our waitress acted as if we were the only ones there because she was still highly attentive. The food was hot and delicious. The tater skins are the best I've had anywhere. Perfectly crispy, with just enough potato left behind. And the toppings are plentiful and adhere to the potato. We all got ribs to eat, and both my littles needed to go to the bathroom to wash up after because they were covered in sauce from devouring them. The inside of the restaurant is so neat! Each area is subdivided into a theme. There's a cinema theme, a jail theme, and a circus theme, just to name a few. Even though there are bathrooms on the lower level, my littles needed to go examine the jail bathroom on the second level with its stainless steel toilet. We toured the restaurant while we waited for our food and definitely found some additional areas we want to eat at when we return to the restaurant. They are definitely good for groups and parties, as the cinema room has an overhead projector and screen. Or you can come here for a date night. Always one of my favorites because it never disappoints. The food is consistently good and plentiful. This review is about amazing customer service my husband and I received from our waiter. Ramon was a whole vibe. He was knowledgeable about the events held just a few blocks away at the coliseum. He stated he changed the music in the restaurant to promote the atmosphere of a major show happening that night. We joked about music and held conversations but not once did our drinks go dry. We had a similar restaurant in CLT, but went OOB 30ish years ago. Found out through SM this restaurant was here. Took a road trip 10/4/25 from Charlotte. We got there about 4:30 and were seated promptly upstairs. Note: it was very chilly upstairs and I'm not cold natured. Bring a sweater if you are. It was warmer downstairs when we left; not sure if there's an outdoor dining area but I would choose that on milder days. Hubby got the baby-back ribs, and chose fries and mashed potatoes as his 2 sides. He enjoyed all of them. I got the sampler of my Cajun shrimp, baby-back ribs and 2 chicken tenders. I chose baked potato (after 4 or 5pm) and onion rings. It came with honey mustard, ranch and a mildly spicy, horseradish dipping sauce for the shrimp. I'm not a huge horseradish fan so I asked for tartar sauce, and the server brought it promptly. Everything was delicious and cooked well. The tenders are huge and the ribs are fall off the bone tender. The shrimp was as I remembered. Baked potato and onion rings were delicious, also. I only finished about half and the waitress (who was precious and personable) asked if I wanted a to-go box without me even having to. Smart idea is the sauces come out in to-go containers so if you want to take them home, they can give you the lids. We stopped at Dewey bakery in WS on the way up there so didn't get any dessert. We were promptly seated in a cozy two-seater near the bar and decided to start with the spinach artichoke dip. Unfortunately, it turned out to be quite ordinary--nothing to write home about. Our waiter, Michael, who was also mixing drinks, got overwhelmed, and I could sense that my food would be left sitting in the window. Sure enough, when it arrived, it was cold--definitely not what I expected! As a Southern girl, I have a strong aversion to cold grits, so I hesitated to send it back. Thankfully, Juan stepped in to help, showcasing the teamwork among the staff. Now, we're just waiting for our reheated dishes to return. When we decided on Darryl's, I was expecting a restaurant like a Texas Roadhouse. Peanut shells or sawdust covering the floor. Boots and hats adoring the walls. Yeah, y'all know what I'm talking about. Not Darryl's. Darryl's is a mashup between a Planet Hollywood and a New Orleans Boudoir turned into a restaurant. When I went to the bathroom and came out, I was half expecting a madam to elegantly stroll down the stairs and introduce me to the team. There are old movie posters everywhere. King Kong, Jaws, Scarface, and plenty more from the 70s, 60s, and before that My colleagues enjoyed their ribs and I was thrilled for them. As I didn't have much choice in the location or the menu offerings, I had French fries. So why the 4 stars? Our service was very friendly and since it's been a fat brisket of time, I don't remember the young man's name but he was super kind, put up with a very demanding order from my colleague and entertained his every whim. I've been visiting Darryl's for decades. It has been consistent all these years. I made a reservation through the Yelp app for a party of 4 (my teenage daughter and her friends). I chose to have a bite to eat in the bar area away but near from them. Before I rave about my meal, I would like to rave about out the decor. I love the odd layout of Darryl's. The maze like layout creates personal nooks for a unique experience. The waitress at the bar was very attentive. She stopped to check on me often to ensure I was taken care of. She made an excellent choice in beer. I ordered the Darryl's bacon cheeseburger. It was quite delicious. The meat was cooked just the way I asked. All of the toppings were fresh. My parents wanted to come here for "nostalgic" reasons because they used to come here for dates, I had never been and let me say first off, I LOVE the interior design. It is so unique and the chair I sat in was so comfy. We did have to wait for about 40 minutes but we were also there Labor Day Weekend and on a Sunday. Our waitress was super super kind and checked in on us regularly. For the appetizers we got the stuffed mushrooms and the potato skins. My dad was really excited about the stuffed mushrooms and, as someone who doesn't even like mushrooms that much, they were good!! The sauce is what made it so delicious. The potato skins were amazing too, I preferred them in the ranch than the sour cream. I wanted something light so I ordered the chicken salad, salad. Which is HUGE by the way!!!!! It came with a giant cracker right in the middle. I couldn't finish it but boy was it yummy. My brother and dad were very impressed with their steaks as well. For dessert i had the brownie and my sister had the cheesecake. She enjoyed it and finished it all, and the brownie.. didn't stand a chance, it sat in front of me for maybe 1 minute before it was gone. Overall, I was very happy with the food and experience here. We visited Darrel's Wood Fried Grill in Greensboro, NC before heading to the Trans-Siberian Orchestra show, and it ended up being the perfect start to our night. The atmosphere alone is worth the trip--especially because we got to sit in the Ferris wheel seat, which made the whole experience feel extra fun and unique. Our appetizers were perfect--fresh, hot, and full of flavor. The main meals were delicious as well, cooked just right with that wood-fired taste that sets Darrel's apart. You can tell they put care into the food. We did have a new server who was very kind but still learning the menu and forgot a few things along the way. Honestly, though, we didn't mind at all.
