I actually had a mixed experience here. The chefs in the kitchen were very friendly, but the cashier was outright rude. She ignored our questions, told us most things on the menu were not available, and didn't even give us forks- we had to say "excuse me" several times. Just awful! The ambiance was awful too. There's no seating- this is strictly a takeout place, which we didn't anticipate. No restroom, not even a trash can for your straw wrapper! Rude signs saying "don't lean on the counter!" Ehhhhhh! I have seen this place so many times at food truck festivals, downtown and the local fairs. I have always wanted to try the crackin Mac and cheese but I've never had a chance too. I got the fried turkey wings a giant turkey leg and some cracklens and let me tell you, so juicy and flavorful! I ordered the smoked wings but they were out and so they offered me the fried and I was worried it would be dry, I had no need to worry! They were tender and packed with flavor. Stopped at the Hickory Tree food truck at the Wide Open Bluegrass Festival in Raleigh. Crack 'n cheese was intriguing... And EXCELLENT! The signature dish is a scoop of creamy Mac' n cheese, covered with chopped smoked turkey, slathered with sweet and tangy BBQ sauce and topped with some turkey cracklins. I went to this restaurant on a Wednesday 6:25 pm. The young lady did not demonstrate customer service skills. She was rude. The first thing she said we close 7pm. I promised several co workers food from this restaurant and I could not leave. I had to ignore the bad attitude. I kept a smile on my face because I want this young lady attitude to change but it did not. There was 4 other customers came in after me. This young lady was terrible. She needs to find a different line of work. She do not need to work with the public under no circumstances. The lady during the day shift is out standing. So, I was able to switch my appointment last week to a Wednesday and stopped in to get a to go order that my wife and I had for dinner. Got the turkey wings which are large. Also picked up the spicy smoked turkey dip, which was actually more like a chicken salad but made with turkey. Not spicy, at least not for us. Instead of waiting in the car, I waited inside and chatted with the staff who are always pleasant. They also tossed in about three small containers of their BBQ sauce. It was very good, a little on the sweet side, but tangy - a Carolina light tomato sauce. They also have it for sale in small bottles. The meat is moist, tender, and very clean - no bits or pieces of unknown origin. The slaw is a coarse chop, mayo based, with some celery seeds included - goes rather well with the meat. That's where i first tasted their Turkey Crack and I've been fielding for it every since! It's not on the menu but the gentlemen at the register knew exactly what i was talking about when i attempted to order. Overall service was stellar. The crack is so good that I ordered two. One to devour in my car and one to preserve in my hotel freezer. Yes i packed one in my bag and it brought it home! It's that good i had to smuggle some home! They were at the Dixie classic fair. I was pretty excited about trying their food since I had heard good things. My husband ordered me the Soulfood eggrolls and their muscadine lemonade. Food took from 2:45 to 3:35 to get to us, including one false start where they brought us food to us realized it was the wrong order and then took it to them (it was also another car that clearly came after us). Food finally came. I got the Turkey dinner, sides of baked beans and cabbage. Turkey was fine, it really needed the sauce but even with it didn't stand out. Cabbage was bad, not flavorful, massive chunks. Beans were actively bad, had a little bit of Southwestern thing going on and were also a small portion even if you did like them.
