This is my favorite restaurant in Salisbury and I'm a home grown Salisburian so I remember when the space was occupied by Las Palmas way back in the day. Now it's home to the best, authentic Cuban cuisine in the area. Whether you're looking for small plated tapas to share among friends or a bountiful feast of deliciously seasoned entrees, Mambo has you covered. You can go the healthy route with their standout grilled salmon & mahi mahi with mixed veggies or indulge in savory dishes such as Chicken Milanese or Ropa Vieja. My favorite dishes are the enchiladas de camaron (shrimp smothered in a hearty sauce and served in a cast iron pot) and the plantain temptation (stuffed with cheese, rice, and protein of choice)! The Cuban sandwich is very good and I usually get one or two to take home. But the best kept secret is their Garlic Cilantro Sauce. It comes with the Yuca Frita (also amazing) and you'll want to ask for extra so you can pour it all over everything else. ¡Buen provecho!

They've a Food Truck. Some Lucky Diners don't have far to go to get the Mambo Experience!

WOW. What a Find in SAL! Friend M. eats here frequently and just happened to suggest for a recent mid-afternoon dunch. My Intro to the Dining Experience was by a Friendly & Capable Waiter - Jacques (who we highly suspect is the Bar Tender during busier times). After Tasty Apps of Camaron al Ajillo and Empanadas - we were treated to an Excellent Dunch of Masitas and the Plantain Temptation. I first judge Latin Restaurants on their presentations and Tastes of Carnitas and was Not Disappointed with Mambo's rendition in the form of Masitas. Will be back when in SAL.

Thanks to a coworker, we traveled to Salisbury to try Mambo Grill & Tapas. Pleasantly surprised to say the least!! We were greeted at the door by the hostesses. We were asked if we had reservations, which we did not, nor did we come across anything that says they were needed. The owner came up front and asked us to give them a minute, she's still training to front staff. Turns out, they had reservations coming in so the only seats available were at the bar, which are first come first serve. My party of 3 went over and sat next to the kindest lady and daughter. That was a delight! They even moved over to give us more room. John was our waiter and he was SO chill, so cool, and very helpful. He only waits at the bar now (double-duty). The menu made it very difficult to choose an item. EVERYTHING sounded delicious. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are satisfying. The tostones were perfect with the tangy mojo (citrusy chopped garlic). The vaca frita was crisp and with the sautéed onions...yummmm!!! The yellow rice was fluffy and the maduros were perfectly prepared. I tasted my hubby's Hemingway chicken....boy oh boy!!!! THAT will be next my dish to try! We got the opportunity to learn more about John and talk more with Ariella. It's really heart-warming to hear where things started and see the successful progress in life & business. I wish Mambo Grill & Tapas nothing but the BEST and we will be back really soon.

The place gives you an authentic Cuban vibe with vibrant artwork and furniture! Our waitstaff was excellent and the food arrived very quickly given the fact we arrived with a party of 27! The star of our meal was the empanadas- especially the picadillo but the chicken were good too! The garlic cilantro sauce was amazing! Neither of us were blown away by dinner though-I had the Vaca Frita and it was extremely crispy making it hard to chew and it was heavy on a vinegar taste and over salted! The Moro rice was good as were the plantains! Hubby had Hemingway chicken and it was overcooked and dry but flavorful! We would come back for the empanadas!

We have frequented Mambo since they opened in their first location. We haved moved to another state but always make sure to visit while in town. They offer a full bar. Their mojitos are a favorite! The staff and owners are amazing. A family dining feeling. The smells are mouth watering. You can't go wrong with ropa vieja. It is like a stew your Grandma would serve you. My absolute FAVORITE is yuca con mojo. The yuca texture is just right, not mushy. The mojo flavor and fresh garlic; chef's kiss. A must try when in Salisbury.

One of Salisbury's hidden secrets. There is absolutely nothing on this menu that isn't absolutely delicious. If you want Cuban food and a fun atmosphere, this is your spot. They open on weekends only and reservations are highly recommended.

On the drive home from Outer Banks we were in the mood for some Cuban food. Just as we were approaching Salisbury, this place came up. We are so glad we found it. We started with each having Mojitos (though they were very good; they could have had a little more alcohol). For appetizers we had the Puerco Asado Tostones (real good). For entrees the wife had large Sopa de Pollo (and it was large indeed; with plenty of chicken and sliced corn on the cob). I had the Vaca frita with white rice and black beans (super good and well seasoned). We thought of having dessert but we couldn't eat any more. The service was great and the restaurant is nicely done with murals to make you feel like you are in an old Havana street. Very nice, we will bookmark it for the next time we in the area to stop again. Highly recommend!

Cuban food in the heart of Salisbury, who knew! Mambo Grill is a little slice of Cuba nestled in downtown Salisbury. They have all of your favorite Cuban classics plus a few local extras. Their decor transports you to Havana with the bright colors and fun murals on the walls. We got their Cuban sandwich which has thinly sliced pork tenderloin, ham, shredded pork, cheese mustard and pickles. It was everything you want from a Cuban sandwich - flavorful, sweet, tangy, and crunchy! This is served with their homemade chips and green garlic sauce which you'll want to drink it's so good! Can't wait to be back!

One of our friends recommended this Cuban style restaurant while we were in Salisbury on a day trip and it did not disappoint! Everything on the menu sounds delicious but we decided to keep it simple and try the Cuban sandwich which comes with house made chips. The sandwich was definitely one of the top Cuban sandwiches I have had and will be back to try some different dishes! The service was great and there is very good beer selection at the bar.

We brought new friends this year who absolutely loved it also. We had reservations which I highly recommend. They were swamped when we got there. Service was a little slow, and they weren't as attentive as we necessarily would've liked, however it would not stop us from coming back. They had several big parties in and we just enjoyed the atmosphere and vibe. What we got: Special cocktails and smoked old fashioned 100/10. My friend said it was the best smoked old fashioned he's ever had. Started with Flatbread, which was great. 10/10 It was the flatbread of the day, mozzarella, pesto and prosciutto. My friend and I had the Salmon. 9/10 It was perfectly cooked over sautéed spinach. I personally think a little something else with it would be nice. If you're really hungry, it wouldn't be enough food, but it was a perfect healthy option I was looking for. My friend got the butter chicken 100/10. Absolutely fantastic. Just spicy enough but not too much. I am a wimp and I loved it. Two others got the Katsu Chicken 100/10. This was the standout!! Perfectly crisp chicken breast cutlets, mashed potatoes, fresh perfectly cooked green beans, and a mushroom gravy. I wished I got this and will next time! Dessert: Key lime pie 5/10, just ok. Tasted more like a lemon bar to me. Tiramisu 10/10. Light, tasty, wonderfully done.

And as crowded as it was on our recent visit, The One may eventually have to seek out trendier, more spacious digs somewhere else in the Queen City. Until then, be prepared for a noisy ambiance, peak hour waits and tables that are a bit close for comfort. But the food and cocktails make it all worth it. The extensive menu of shareable plates offers something for every palate, from the tasty Fettucini with Roasted Duck Ragu and flavorful Braised Short Ribs to the amazing Oxtail Empanadas. Paired with a perfectly mixed Old Fashioned or a bottle of wine from their impressive selection, it adds up to a compelling culinary experience for anything from date night to an evening with friends. Service was excellent on our visit and prices were very reasonable for a meal of this caliber. Parking is free and super-easy, but reservations are highly recommended -- especially for weekend visits. My only gripe was the tightness of the space, which makes intimate conversation a bit challenging and the tables a bit crowded -- especially when you order a variety of plates. But if you can manage to visit on a quiet weeknight, The One will deliver a wonderful tapas meal that will have you planning a return visit before you pick up the check.

Very knowledgeable and friendly. Also, perfectly attentive. 9/10 Drinks: I had a Jack 12 year for $24 (great price) and an Elijah Craig Barrel Proof for $18 (not bad). My wife had a cocktail which was great and lovely. Bartender was super friendly. 10/10 Appetizers: We ordered 4 oysters which were perfect, fresh and well accompanied by homemade crackers and sauces (10/10). Also, ordered the brussels sprouts which were solid but less spectacular than their description (8.5/10). Entree: This is the one area that was a disappointment. My wife and I shared the tuna with crispy potato salad. I was super adamant that we want the tuna seared/ as raw as possible. Neither my wife or I enjoy cooked tuna. We even joked with the server to just "threaten the tuna with flame" as opposed to cook it. When it came out, it was at least 50% cooked with a little bit of pink in the middle. My wife was super disappointed and this kinda ruined her experience. Maybe we should have sent it back but we ate it. 3/10 If the tuna was cooked correctly, I probably give it a 5 star because we really enjoyed it. But cooking the tuna wrong in a michelin star restaurant after how adamant we were is kind of a huge miss. Maybe we will give it another shot.

I ordered the pork belly bao buns, but they missed the mark for me. Coming from NY, I'm used to bao buns being marshmallow-soft and pillowy, but these were a hard, and the pork belly itself was quite tough. Our wonderful waitress noticed I only took one bite and brought the manager over. He explained that the cut is naturally mostly fat, which I understand, but the texture just wasn't quite right because it should be tender not tough. I declined a replacement dish, and he kindly credited it on our bill, though the interaction felt a little awkward. My husband's salmon unfortunately had a very heavy mustard flavor. The spinach farrotto underneath was quite salty. Since there isn't a kids menu which is fine, my daughter ordered the burger plain, but it wasn't really a hit for her. My coconut guava Paloma was okay definitely the best part of my meal though it tasted a little artificial. The ambiance has a lot of potential, and they had live music playing. However, it was a bit too loud for the space, forcing guests to raise their voices just to speak to each other. We also noticed our table hadn't been wiped down thoroughly before we sat down. The absolute silver lining of our evening was our waitress. She was incredibly sweet, highly attentive, and took great care of us. She is truly the reason I am giving 3 stars. She mentioned that they offer a completely different menu for brunch. Because the setting is so pretty and the service was so good, we might give them another chance for brunch down the road, but we likely wouldn't return for dinner. Between the rave reviews and the beautifully designed space, I knew this would be our stop. The first thing I noticed when we arrived was that the parking lot was on the smaller side, but any concern disappeared the moment we checked in. The hostess greeted us warmly, asked for my license plate so she could validate our parking, and had us seated almost immediately. It was such a thoughtful touch and set the tone for the experience. On the way to our table, I couldn't help but notice the inviting patio, perfect for lingering over lunch on a beautiful day. That said, I had reserved an indoor table, and I'm glad I did. The dining room is intimate, stylish, and effortlessly chic. It's the kind of restaurant that feels equally suited for a catch-up with friends as it does for a date night. The tables are close together, creating a lively atmosphere, so it's worth keeping that in mind if you prefer a little more privacy. Our server, Aundria, made an already wonderful experience even better. She was warm, attentive, and knew the menu inside and out. It was also refreshing to see the entire team working together so seamlessly, with everyone stepping in to help one another throughout the meal. I ordered the lobster roll with shoestring fries, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. The lobster was fresh, buttery, and generously portioned, making it one of those dishes I'd happily order again. Before we left, I asked Aundria what she reaches for when she dines there. Without hesitation, she recommended the Korean Beef Bowl, which has already earned a spot on my list for my next visit. As if the experience couldn't have ended on a sweeter note, it started raining just as we were leaving. The hostess grabbed an umbrella and walked me to my car, a simple gesture that perfectly reflected the hospitality we experienced from start to finish. Great food is memorable, but genuine hospitality is what keeps me coming back. This restaurant delivered both, and it's officially earned a place on my list of Winston-Salem favorites.

The "Korean Beef Bowl" came with about a cup of each beef, rice, cucumbers and maybe 1/4th of an avocado for $24. This looked and tasted like a $14 dollar plate at best (seriously, no kimchi even in a Korean bowl?); I left hungry. My wife got the Thai coconut curry, $30 bucks which included an $8 up charge for chicken, in which there were maybe 8 paper thin slices. The curry part was non existent both in volume and in taste. There was barely any sauce, very bland, and it essentially tasted like unseasoned noodles and vegetables. I would gladly come back for a happy hour and enjoy their other drink options and appetizers, but I just cannot justify paying the exorbitant prices for how mediocre the food ultimately was. I wish I had taken a picture of the food to add weight to the review but it was so lackluster looking that it just was not worth photographing in the moment.
