This restaurant has been a mainstay for my wife and I since they opened years ago. There have been times where the food wasn't fully on point (too little salt or spice) and inevitable bartender turnover but through it all it has been a wonderful place to relax over a extremely well made cocktail. Food - the new Sous chef that joined 6-8 months ago has breathed new life into the menu and the execution has improved as wee. As of 4/17 - Pork belly vao buns were stellar. Wow I can't believe I've lived in Greensboro this whole time and I've never been here! This is the perfect place to go for a birthday, date, or just a good meal or cocktail. The inside is cozy and on the smaller side but so cute. We started with the buratta appetizer which came with focaccia and pesto which was all amazing. The pesto had a great garlic flavor and the bread was lightly toasted. For an entree, I had the Moroccan couscous with crispy chickpeas and even though the picture might look a little weird, I can assure you it was delicious. The chickpeas were really crispy as promised and the flavor was delicious. It was well seasoned and the sauces were so good. The green one was a mint parsley I think and the orange was my favorite - red pepper tahini. My only complaint would be that I want more of the sauce because it was so good. I really enjoyed & I appreciated that they had this vegan option. They have tons of wine & the cocktail menu is also great. The waiter was super friendly and quick. I ordered a cocktail with vodka instead of tequila which wasn't a problem at all. I tried a few of the cocktails and they were all really good and perfectly described on the menu. A smoked old fashioned for me (perfectly balanced with just the right depth), and for my wife, a mezcal cocktail called Thrifted Flannel that was smoky, bright, and creative. For apps, we shared the fried chicken in a basket, which was crispy and flavorful, and absolutely hit the spot. Then came the 13-hour roasted pork belly...so tender it practically dissolved on contact. We split the soft shell crab sandwich for the main event, and it was a showstopper. Upset I waited so long to come here. All around the experience was amazing. The restaurant is definitely on the cozier side but it's decor and setup still make it seem very upscale. The menu is pretty small, but there is such a large variety of food. I got the Hanger Steak which came with jollof and broccolini. As a Nigerian in an American restaurant, I had extremely low expectations of the jollof, but it was actually really good and pretty close to traditional jollof. Definitely recommend it as an intro point to some West African cuisine. The broccolini was also really good and had a nice garlic flavor. The steak was perfectly cooked and tender as well. The place is small but cozy. The menu is limited but the fish tacos are very good. There is a special every day during the week. On Wednesday, myself & a friend shared a 1/2 bottle of moscato. It was sweet and delicious. However, we are not heavy drinkers so we didn't finish it & was allowed to take the rest home in a wine bag. At first we were a little frustrated because our drinks hadn't come after about 20 minutes but then our server quickly realized they got delivered to another table and the manager came out and said the drinks were on her. This was a super nice gesture and quickly made the night better. You can always rely on the food being good and it's just a nice date night nighttime vibe. You immediately feel welcomed by the staff and their service is superb. Everything pictured is from the "snack" menu but it was more like a 3-course meal! Each dish was delectable. I was so full but couldn't stop going in for more! I highly recommend trying the pimento cheese...so creamy and tangy it pairs perfectly with the pickled okra and soft toasted bread. A really great experience dining at 1618. Perfect setting for a date. The food was well past expectations and I honestly am looking forward to future visits to try the rest of the menu. Drinks/cocktails are also exceptional and offer a variety of original drinks. We shared the Fried Chicken and it came out super hot & crispy. I honestly was expecting bone-in chicken but was tenders (the size was big though). Almost certain the hot sauce it came with was Texas Pete and that's actually perfect. I had the Tagliatelle and it blew me away. Nice, tender pasta cooked well - the ingredients all made sense (sausage + charred broccoli + shallot) and all came together with the bread crumbs. The food is always amazing and super tasty, the craft cocktails are exquisite and there are so many to choose from! The place was pretty good overall. The ambiance was welcoming and dimly lit--perfect for our 8:30 pm arrival. Everything we ordered, from the food to the drinks, was absolutely delicious. The truffle fries, served with garlic aioli and ketchup, were a hit with our group; we devoured them! The pork belly was also fantastic, bursting with flavor, with a lovely mandarin orange presence, and the crispy rice added an excellent touch. The highlight, though, was the whipped feta dip with sun-dried tomatoes. It was so good that we ordered two without even realizing it--wine might have played a role in our enthusiasm! The prices were fair, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. However, the service was a bit of a letdown, which is why I'm giving this place less than five stars. Our server seemed disengaged--he was literally yawning while talking to us, made no menu suggestions, and took too long to check back in. We were eager to order food right away, but after bringing our drinks, he didn't return for about 15 minutes. The table next to us had the same server and shared similar frustrations. If you've read my reviews you know 1618 Seafood Grille is one of my favorite places to dine in Greensboro. For whatever reason, I don't get to 1618 Midtown as often but I my husband and I decided to go here for his recent birthday dinner. The same product quality, attention to detail, and of course fabulous food is evident at this location as well. 1618 Midtown is a more casual restaurant with a large selection of wines, artisan cocktails, and craft beers as well as a menu of modern cuisine. We were happy to discover that in addition to their dinner menu, currently served till 10pm, they also have a late night menu till 12am! Never thought about this place as a late night cocktail/food option, but I will now! We started with some cocktails, unfortunately I can't remember what either was called but they all had fun names and were delicious. We started with the Wedge Salad (black pepper bacon, red onion, balsamic cherry tomato, everything bagel crunch, smoked blue cheese dressing) which they nicely split into two serving for us. That was a great wedge salad. I loved the nuances of the black pepper bacon, everything angle crunch, and the smoked blue cheese dressing was heavenly. The tacos (crispy flounder, shredded cabbage, cured onion, garlic, yum-yum sauce, chili crisp) were huge! One taco was plenty sizable appetizer The pieces of flounder were also perfectly breaded for that crispy crunch. We honestly could of been content just eating those two dishes for the evening but there were yummy entrees to be had! I got the Market fish, which was a whitefish of sorts that came with butternut squash & pea risotto, rainbow chard, and roasted tomato beurre blanc. This dish was beautifully presented. The fish was nice and flaky and it's subtle flavor went great with the beurre Blanc. The risotto was yummy and I liked the vegetable inclusions. It was so good I ate the whole thing and was quite happy full after. Hubby got the Airline Chicken (citrus, chili, blistered tomato, fingerling potato, broccolini, bourbon pan jus) and gave me a couple bites. This was also a tasty dish. Liked the brightness of the citrus, chicken was moist, and those potatoes were great. What would a birthday be without dessert? We got a fun deconstructed peanut butter cheesecake. The innovation and presentation here was very cool. Lots of fun textures and not super sweet which is my dessert preference. By the time we left from dinner the place was hoping with guests enjoying drinks at the bar. Also must give a great shout out to our waiter. He was attentive and great for offering suggestions and fun interactions throughout of evening. Love that this place can be enjoyed for a fancy dinner celebration like we had as well as a place for a nice drink and snacks. The 1618 Concept group just does things right. I have been here a few times now and each time has been stellar! We love their cocktail menu, and I've gotten to try at least 5 or 6 of the drinks on their 2023 fall menu. Super great! You can't go wrong with their smash burger, and I've tried almost every appetizer/small plate and would recommend just about any of them. The aioli that comes with the fries is also so good! Ordered: Jalapeño Margarita, Taco, Truffle Fries, and Mixed Greens (salad) I've gone to to 1618 Downtown years ago a few times for lunches so I assumed this branch of 1618 would be a safe choice to meet up with my childhood friend. To start off I ordered the Truffle Fries as I was a big fan of them from the Downtown location. They were still good, but the cut of the fries were thicker than my liking. I'd give it a 4/5 since I like my fries thinner. Since it was Tuesday, I ordered their specials of a smoked brisket taco and asked if they could make a Jalapeño flavored margarita. The 1st drink was the right mix of sweet and spicy. 5/5. The 2nd drink lacked any flavor so I would give it a 2/5. Had I received the 2nd drink as my first I wouldn't have ordered a second. I was excited about the taco as it sounded delicious. You get 2 tacos which was super stuffed, unfortunately I was so hungry I didn't realize the picture was blurred until I got home). I ate the first one and I'd have to say it was a 1/5. The flavors didn't come together. The pickled poblano peppers overpowered every other ingredient. I was so hungry I ate the first taco. It's important to note that I took the taco home because I figured I could doctor it up. Surprisingly, I warmed it up in the oven, took a bit of it to give it a second chance and it tasted perfect, 5/5. I'm not sure if the flavors of my drink altered the taste of the taco at the restaurant or warming all of the ingredients up together in the oven helped (similar to when you let your ingredients simmer together when making soup). Since the taco didn't satisfy me in store I ordered the Mixed Greens, one of their salads, and it was AMAZING! 5/5. I'm glad I took a chance to see how the chai-spiced grapes and the other ingredients would pair. The staff was friendly so 5/5. My wife and I came here for a quick dinner before a show. We running 10 minutes past our reservation time and on the drive down they called us and were able to accommodate our table. When we arrived we were seated immediately and promptly attended. We had a bottle of the non alcoholic wine which is really good and they bring out a bottle chiller. Our starter was the cheese board and the cheese and meats were delicious. Our main course was the market fish which we split. They brought out the dish in two separate plates and the market fish was so flavorful and cooked perfectly. As many people do, we mostly view this 1618 as a bar with some light food. It's a great place to host friends for drinks as well as to have a small gathering. I've been to events here as well and if your event isn't too many people, this can be a great place for it. The drinks are very good and they have a nice selection. The cocktails are normally quite good here which makes it worth the trip as there aren't a ton of places in Greensboro to get a well made cocktail (although that situation is improving). I love going to 1618 Midtown at different times of the season. They are one restaurant compared to a few of my other favorites that change their menu depending on the season. That means that they change their food and their drinks to whatever season it is at the time. Everything is freshly made and the drinks there are outstanding. The waitresses waiters and the bartenders plus the cooks are friendly and will help you if you're gluten-free or dairy-free to pick out an item on the menu or to drink. Depending on if you go at dinner time or for drinks and appetizers the setting is very nice, great music and just what the doctor asked for You can't go wrong at 1618 Midtown! We came in for a quick bite and a couple of drinks. We were greeted at the door and found a couple of seats at the bar. The cocktail list was great and you could tell whoever is in charge of their cocktail program knows what's up. The food was some of the best we've had in the area (Korean tacos, wedge salad, smash burger.) Had a good vibe all around and the service was great.
