What an amazing place! A couple of friends brought me here and no wonder why they love it. I loved the artwork behind the bar and the entire setup of the restaurant. I loved the fun and creative cocktail menu. The Harvey Milk cocktail went down all too easily! We then ordered the charcuterie board along with a series of dishes. I am a bread fan; I loved the bread along with the berry butter. There wasn't a single dish that I didn't like! I was enjoying myself so much, I forgot to take pictures of everything! As important as the food is, so is the service and our server was very personable and very nice. Overall, it was a great experience!

Machete is truly a gem! From the very first bite, you can tell the chefs put their heart and soul into every single dish. The flavors are thoughtful, creative, and absolutely unforgettable!!! The drinks were just as impressive! crafted with so much care and balance. If you go (and you absolutely should!), please do yourself a favor and do not skip the duck wings or the espresso martini!!! both were out of this world. Every single thing I tried was a solid 10/10. The atmosphere, the service, the food, the drinks!!! it all comes together to create an experience that makes you want to come back again and again. I know I'll definitely be returning soon!

Wow. We were taken aback by how wonderful this restaurant is. We kept telling each other, "this is like an Asheville or NYC restaurant in GSO!" The staff is so knowledgeable, and each dish came to us with an explanation, which I love! They were also so warm, kind, and congenial. Each dish we tried was delicious and well-plated, and the craft cocktails were so impressive. We tried: Duck Wings 9/10 Crab Salad 10/10 Scallop Toast 10000/10 Charred Cabbage 8/10 Tiramisu 1.5 million/10 I also have to give a shout out to the cook line. You can see them as you eat, and they were hard-working & so friendly!!

Good service, very informative as well. All of our plates were great. We got the garlic bread, the salad, the loaded potatoes, and finally the baby back pork ribs. My personal favorite was the ribs.

First experience: Absolutely amazing! A novel experience offered near Winston-Salem. The atmosphere was chill and hipster. Everything I ate was so unique and artisanal. The chawanmushi and clams were sold out and I was convinced that it was because they taste good. I assumed wrong. My second experience: not so good. I returned solely for those two items which did not taste very good. In conclusion, the dishes are honestly a hit or a miss. While I enjoy the experimental and modern take, some of the foods just did not taste that good.

Dining at Machete is always a fantastic experience. With the menu changing seasonally, there's always something new to try when we make it over there. We went for our anniversary dinner and everything we ordered was so, so good. The standouts for me were the corn ribs, the scallop, and the fluke, but we loved it all. We ordered 2 cocktails each. I got the Death by Snusnu and the Sewer Mutants, both incredible. Snusnu had a refreshing tiki vibe with the ube infused rum, and Sewer Mutants tasted like a literal slice of key lime pie. Perfect dessert drink for me! The complimentary glasses of bubbly for our anniversary were a very sweet surprise. Our waiter was outstanding which elevated the whole experience for us as well. We are lucky to have a place like Machete in the triad. Can't wait to come back and try the next menu!

Outstanding reviews and presentation in the Yelp reviews brought me in. Sat at the bar and started with sparkling water. Then I expanded my horizons with my second bourbon drink with duck fat which was called the Room Raider and was garnished with a pice of duck prosciutto. Don't knock it til you try it. Great drink! See photo. For an appetizer I was again feeling adventurous so I decided to try the lobster hollandaise dill squid ink crisp. For another course I ordered duck wings with hickory BBQ dry rub. Sipping my duck fat cocktail and sparkling water while I wait for my meal....... So far so good! The lobster app was a beautiful presentation and the hollandaise sauce with the crisp tapioca made for a fun and interesting texture for my first course. The duck wings were a huge portion. I did not count but there was at least 6 full wings. That was my first time ordering duck wings! They were tasty and fun to eat. Duck wings are larger than chicken wings and much tastier especially with the hickory BBQ dry rub. Call me Columbo, but I think I figured out where they get their duck fat. Finished off the meal with 3 scoops of homemade ice cream- brown butter something, rosemary infused and PBJ sorbet. Waiting for dessert to be served while finishing my Room Raider and sipping sparkling water. They truly outdo themselves with the presentation of the food. The place in tastefully painted with floral decor. The high ceiling and exposed bar joists in the ceiling make the place feel much more open. I recommend Machete for locals or anyone visiting Greensboro with an adventurous appetite.

Let the pictures speak for themselves. Amazing eclectic menu in a fun and vibrant atmosphere near downtown Greensboro. Add this to your dining experience! Our server, Ian, pushed this 5+ star establishment into another zone. His approachable personality and "think outside the box" recommendations made for an amazing dining experience. He asked what we typically like for both food and drink. Most servers will then recommend similar items off of their food/bar menu. He instead recommended items we would never choose, and thank goodness he did. The drinks and food we had because of his recommendations made for a memorable evening. The eclectic tapas style menu has something for any foodie palate. Starting off, I enjoyed a smoked "Mad God." Typically I'd start off with an old fashioned or Manhattan, but this was even better. Bourbon, cognac, porcini, vanilla bean...brought out covered and smoked. Removing the glass topper released the trapped in smoke which stimulated the olfactory nerves, leading into the synaptically connected taste buds. The combination of smell and taste was perfect. Ian, thank you again for leading us outside of our comfort zone. Bonus points to the amazing bartender for setting up this drink the way he/she did. The food. What better way to experience the many options of this amazing chef than a tapas style journey through 7+ courses of perfectly proportioned dishes. Bread service with hopped up butter...amazing. Ribeye carpaccio tostada...heavenly, melt in your mouth tender. Artichoke mushroom with crispy garlic...the flavors just dance on your palate. Lamb belly with leek and lamb jus...as a fan of pork belly and bone marrow, this seems like a combination of both that just can't be beat. Gravlax...can you say smoked salmon on steroids? Roasted cauliflower with goat cheese and tapenade...they all play so well together on this dish. Banana butter cake dessert...such a blissfuly sweet ending to an amazing dinner. If you're a foodie, don't miss this one. (Tip: come on a Friday evening and sit in their counter top area facing the ball park. Front row seating to the fireworks after any Grasshopper Friday night home game)

This was my first time dining here. This is not my typical kind of restaurant. I was so excited to try as it has been on my list for a long time. I did not know what many of the things were and the wait staff was great at explaining and recommending things. The ambience was really nice and relaxed. I came at 6 o'clock on a Friday and it wasn't super busy yet but by the time we left, it was pretty packed. We had the crab /lobster flautas (my fav), the venison, the halibut, and the cheddar grits with wild mushrooms. I would come back here again for a special occasion as it is out of my normal price range, but it was really nice to try something really different and I appreciated the experience.

Ya Filthy Animal cocktail and a $14 "Bartender's Choice Mocktail" (i.e., club soda, lemon juice, and honey syrup) (i.e., completed B.S.)

Been looking forward to my 500th Yelp review for some time and thinking about the ideal business to review. I decided some time ago to review Machete, since it has been recommended to me so many times over the years. Overall, I give the meal and experience a clear 5-stars, though as I note at the end, we were left with a bad taste in our mouths at the end of the meal. Expectations were high going into this meal and to its credit, Machete delivered. Service was solid (though small plates were coming out of the kitchen a bit fast as we ate early for a show and it was not crowded). Cocktail menu is witty and offers some interesting flavor combinations. I had the "Ya Filthy Animal" -- gin, Jagermeister, amaro Montenegro, and amaretto -- but was also looking hard at "Cal Dodd's Wolverine" -- Islay and blended Scotch, yellow Chartreuse, cardamom, and lemon. I could drink these all day. INTERESTING FLAVOR COMBINATIONS would be the title of this review if I could give it a title. Many of the dishes we ate were fairly standard, but were given non-standard flavor twists. The olives, for example, prepared in red wine and dijon. The cauliflower with pistachios and articoke. The maitake mushrooms and grits with ricotta. Every dish that came out was a novel exploration of flavors. For the "treats" course, we REALLY enjoyed the semifreddo, and not just because we're suckers for Biscoff cookies. We split one but could have eaten 4 even at the end of the meal. And I capped it off with something I had never had before and regretted never having had before: Dumangin J. Fils Ratafia Champenois - which is basically a fortified Champagne. Delicious! At the end of the meal, we were left with a bad taste in our mouths. My wife was looking for a mocktail and asked for a non-alcoholic Bees Knees. Which is club soda, 1/2 ounce honey syrup, and 1 ounce lemon juice. For which we were charged $14 as "Bartender's Choice" drink. Which is complete bulls%@t. I expect a complimentary mocktail next time we visit.

The food was very good but I didn't know it was a tapas style restaurant before going (5 or 6 small plates of food to share) Overall it was a good experience and the food was great. I will say though at first we were starting to debate if this was going to be a nice meal second food stop on the way home. The dishes came out and they were small until the duck wings came out. Complete opposite portion size. Massive wings and a full bowl of them. Caught us by surprise for sure and we didn't need to go out again after we left lol I got a few more dishes but only took a couple photos. The A5 steak dish is very small but worth it if you haven't had A5 wagu. It's a great introduction to it.

Eclectic, fresh, unique This restaurant is different from any other place in Greensboro. The food is presented beautifully! It's not just a meal, it's a work of art. You need to love small plates, and trying different foods to enjoy this meal - the way it should be enjoyed. I've been se real times- and have loved it every time. This visit was a beer pairing- very cool and informative. Service is impeccable!! Make reservations!!

WHAT A CULINARY EXPERIENCE!! Super fun & eclectic. Great & helpful service. Unique food experience that I highly recommend. I really stepped out of my comfort zone. Had to use Google to know what I was getting LOL! BUT I was not disappointed with anything. Even my mocktail was tasty. I hope to come back with my daughter, who would love this memorable restaurant. Very nice vibe and also would be perfect for a date Night. Check it out!

Her demeanor always remained professional and courteous. The food varied based upon what was ordered. Those who ordered sandwiches reported they were good; those that ordered salads said they were okay (the Cobb was missing the egg and the chicken tasted pre-cooked; one person was charged 75 cents for extra honey mustard dressing), and those that ordered burgers said they were mediocre, reporting that the meat was room temperature and had a texture that felt pre-cooked. Beer was great. The issue came from the management. A person in our party ordered a Mint Julep. The waitress had never heard of it and checked with the bartender to make sure it could be made. She said the bartender wasn't familiar with it, but could look it up and make it. The drink never came. One of us went to the bar, picked it up, and brought it to our table. The drink lacked color. When our friend drank it, she said she couldn't taste any bourbon. (A classic Mint Julep should have 2-2.5 oz of KY bourbon.) We asked for more bourbon to pour into the drink. When the bill came, our friend was charged $23 for the drink: $10 for the drink that was made incorrectly, $10 for the extra bourbon, $3 for the sprig of mint. All our wanted was to be compensated the $10 for the incorrectly made drink. Management said they could not do it, that it would be illegal for them to do it, and that the bartender followed "their" recipe and that, even though it may not be what she was used to, the drink was made in accordance with their recipe. In other words, they lied. Management can always "make it right" by offering a $10 compensation, but they would have none of it. The integrity of the restaurant is lacking, particularly regarding management. So many great restaurants exist in the area. (We ate at two other restaurants that week that were excellent and in the same price range.) Why take a chance on one like this? Reading other reviews shows that something is terribly wrong with The Upper Deck Kitchen.....and what they call cocktails.
