This was our second visit here since moving to the area. To start, the servers were great! Very friendly and we were seated quickly. We ordered drinks and an appetizer and they came out fairly quickly. The Korean BBQ Spring Rolls are very good! Now for the not so good part. We ordered the fish and chips to split- that was all we ordered after the appetizer and it took forever for our order to be brought to the table. We watched a couple tables around us, get their food before us, and they had been seated after us.. The server had to go back and check on our dish a couple times before it finally came out. I will say the fish and the chips were fabulous, but the corn was terrible and should probably not even be included on the dish. It was WAY overcooked and chewy. The coleslaw left quite a bit to be desired as well. No seasoning, no flavor and was just bland. When it says wasabi coleslaw, I am thinking it is going to have a little bit of a kick to it but nothing. They could definitely save themselves some money by eliminating the corn from this dish, make the coleslaw an option as an up charge and could lower the price on the dish in general or add a third piece of fish instead of the corn and coleslaw. We finally had a chance to try Fishbones on Walker Avenue. We were looking for something casual and inviting and what we found was a rustic, engaging vibe at Fishbones. We started out with cocktails. I had a Hendricks dry martini straight up (it was delicious) and my wife had a Don't Call Me Sweetie which is mix of Hendrick's Gin, Lemon, Cucumber, Basil, Simple, Saline 15. It is very citrus heavy, so be advised. She had them cut it with a bit of cranberry to offset the citrus. For main courses, my wife had the grilled salmon and she chose sautéed garlic spinach and wasabi slaw as her sides. I ordered the shrimp and grits and my side was blackened green beans. Let's talk main course first. My wife's salmon was terrific. Flaky and moist and very tasty. My shrimp and grits was unique because it was a real balance between large pieces of shrimp and the grits. Many times you'll order this dish and end up with a pile of grits with some shrimp sprinkled on top. This version is very tasty and a really nice balance of flavors. The Cajun seasonings have it some kick, but it did not overpower. The side dishes are where we had a couple of surprises. First off the sautéed spinach was really delicious, but my wife's wasabi slaw was bland. It's a huge shocker because when you see the word wasabi, you expected to have some Asian kick to it. This did not. It was hard to even identify that it had wasabi in it. That was a disappointment. The surprise was the blackened green beans. They actually were one of the stars of the show. Their flavor and texture was just awesome. We could've ordered a huge bowl of it and eaten all of it. While it didn't need it, there was a dipping aïoli on the side, just in case we wanted to add that to the green bean experience. As I mentioned off the start, Fishbones is a very casual experience. It's very pub-like in that way. We really loved it and the wait staff, which is a team approach as anyone who passes you makes sure you're doing OK, were kind, upbeat and helpful. I really need to come to Fishbones more often. Every time I come back I'm plenty reminded of how great this local seafood restaurant is. Husband and I popped in for a week night dinner after doing some holiday shopping. It's a small, but very cute place. Can sit at the bar or at one of the high top tables. I enjoy sitting by the fish tank they have toward the back. I love their peel and eat shrimp, so we decided to get a pound as an appetizer. These shrimp are the big guys and I highly recommend asking for the Old Bay seasoning on them. I tried to limit my use of the melted butter (of course yum) which wasnt too hard as their cocktail sauce is pretty darn good. The balance of sweet, spicy, and tangy in their preparation is spot on. For entrees we went with two of their most popular dishes. Hubby ordered the farm-raised catfish. This dish comes with certain sides but you can customize, he got the slaw and blackened green beans. I got the blackened ahh tuna medium rare which comes with your choice of two sides. I went for corn and the blackened green beans. My tuna was perfectly prepared and hit the spot. I received two big half pieces of golden yellow corn. It had nice subtle sweetness. Their blackened green beans are a must try. Perfectly seasoned. The creamy dipping sauce is also delish but tried to limit use. This was a lot of food and very healthy. I left plenty full with no guilt. Everything was superb. The service was also very attentive. No issue getting a table on a weeknight. There is something for everyone on the menu. I've never been able to convince myself to get anything but seafood as their specialty, but they do have options for meat-lovers and even some vegetarian and vegan options available. This was my first time in. A lot of things looked good on menu. I got the Thai beef salad cooked medium. It was a very plentiful salad. However, I do wish there was more sauce in it. There was a peanut sauce, but I would've liked something of more like an Asian tasting sauce. The service was good. We started outside and were able to move inside when it started raining. I've said it before and I'll say it again, you cannot find a better filet mignon dinner in NC for the price. Pre COVID the filet with 2 sides was $15. It's now $24 but we'll worth it. The grouper fingers were bland, just tasted like fried panko. The sauce didn't help. The salt & pepper catfish along with the beans and rice was very good. When I order takeout, I normally don't review the place because I didn't stay there long enough to get the whole experience but I can tell you, hands down, this was one of the best takeout experiences I've had in a while. I love how the place is so local to greensboro and I definitely recommend it to anyone who is in town or visiting. I always drove past and saw people on the patio sitting talking and enjoying their lunch and a few weeks ago, I found out why. Here's their secret: the staff is seriously really friendly. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted and asked if I needed to be helped, they had a sense of urgency and welcomeness that I really appreciated. The food was a 10/10 for sure! We were driving through Greensboro and Fishbones looked like a great place to stop for a late lunch on a Sunday. It's seat yourself and had a great casual vibe to it. The menu had a great variety and they clearly listed their specials on the boards around the biz. They had indoor and outdoor seating, it was way too hot for us to eat outside so indoor it was. I got the crab soup which was delicious and had tons of crab in it. I was especially impressed that the price was so reasonable at only $5. We also went with a dozen of the middleneck clams and the catfish bites special of the day. Everything came out pipping hot and fresh. The clams had a great flavor to the broth and came with huge hunks of bread. My husband had ordered extra bread since he didn't realize bread already came with the dish. I wish the waitress would have told us that, but nonetheless their ciabatta was tasty. The catfish bites were super flavorful and a great dish to share. We've been coming to this unique restaurant for years. The owner is great and is passionate about the food quality and prep. You can get a burger or Cioppino or angus beef quesadillas, and even good Thai specials or poke bowls. Lots of unique creations. The variety is there and everything is cooked very well and the quality is evident. The pricing is very reasonable for what you get. The specials can be quite unique. I had the crab cake tonight and it was nice and tasty. All crabmeat, no filler and a large portion, not fried but pan seared. The salads are nice and their house dressings are delicious. My wife had the fresh tuna on a ciabatta roll. The tuna is always good and a high grade. The patio is nice and could be a lot more with a little maintenance and Clean up. Fishbones, in my opinion is one of Greensboro's hidden gems. It has a laidback hometown bar feel with some excellent food. I've been here several times now and it has never disappointed! My favorite go to meal is the House Salad with Steak Filet. The steak is cooked to perfection every time and the salad is always crisp and fresh!!! The house made croutons are delicious as well. (Shhh....I'm not supposed to be eating them but for review sake I had to try them...RIGHT!? You're welcome!) If you're looking for some libations you can also find a nice selection of wines, cocktails and beer here as well. The location isn't very large so get in there early. All of us pretty much had the same comments about our meals that they were bland. The crab soup had entirely too much thyme in it, so much so that's all you tasted. The minestrone soup was well seasoned. All our fish meals were missing something, we reached tasted each other's and said the same thing....all our meals were missing something. The fried Catfish tasted like it had no seasoning other than the salt flakes that were on top. The fries were fresh and nice and crunchy. The rice was okay and beans, can do without, garlic bread was OK. The chicken burrito was really good and had flavor to it, none of us were fans of the white rice and black beans. The drinks weren't bad, I really liked the names of the drinks offered. I was expecting a bit more with the food and was really hoping I would enjoy it. I came here on a recent trip to Greensboro and I loved the vibe. It gives me a Cheers vibe with the atmosphere, but with better food. I came with my family and watched the game and got Shrimp & Grits. It was delicious, but very spicy - definitely good if you're looking to clear out your sinuses. Fishbones (not Bone Fish Grill) in Lindley park is one of our favorite local spots. This is a seafood restaurant featuring salmon, shrimp, oysters, and mole. Ordered: Spring Rolls Drunken Shrimp Wild Salmon Filet Sautéed Garlic Spinach Blackened Green Beans The restaurant is pleasantly placed at the corner of Elam and Walker. Surprisingly I've driven past here many times and did not notice the shops at this corner. Thankfully, since I searched for a new place to tae my father for his birthday, I found Fishbones. Fishbones has both indoor and outdoor seating. We chose to sit indoors where you can either sit at the bar or at one of their high-top tables. The outdoor tables are the typical table height. This is important for someone who may have issues sitting at a high-top table due to any medical/physical limitations. I truly enjoyed the Spring Rolls. I preferred their flavor when dipped into the chili soy sauce versus them alone. I was torn between ordering the Drunken Shrimp or Cioppino. The worker's there recommended the Drunken Shrimp over that. For those you may have problems using their fingers, if you order this dish, you will have to peel your shrimp or have someone to do so for you. The Drunken Shrimp came out steaming hot. The garlic beer broth paired well when dipping the garlic ciabatta bread in it and was flavorful. The bread tasted fresh and I was not disappointed in the broth. There was a good amount of shrimp in the dish and although the broth was flavorful, the shrimp did not soak up those same flavors when I peeled and ate them. I wasn't a fan of the shrimp because I feel lie they needed to either be soaked in their seasoning longer or simmered in the broth longer so that it absorbed some flavor. I thin that would take the dish to a new level of food satisfactory. The worker's there were kind and helpful. I appreciated their help with narrowing down my food choice and that they helped pack up my dish to go due to the broth. My dad's not a big foodie, so all I can share with you all is that he liked his dish! I'll prob try the Wild Salmon Filet entree next time and choose 2 sides. read more

We went to fishbones for lunch and it was absolutely one of the worst dining experiences we've ever had. the restaurant was fairly empty, so when we walked in as a party of 8, they seated us fairly quickly. after being seated, it took the staff about 15 mins to get our drink out which wasn't a big deal. After receiving our drinks, we put in our food order which took them over an hour to prepare. I happen to glance into the kitchen and noticed both cooks were not wearing gloves, they grabbed our salads with their bare hands which is absolutely disgusting. It seemed they microwaved my son's burger patty again not a great sign. The bartenders left a bin full of dirty dishes on the ground in front of the kitchen entry, which one of the cooks proceeded to pickup with his bare hands and then proceeded with preparing our meal once again. As far as the food, the oysters and shrimp looked good but the salad was wilted including the tomatoes, we all left our plates on the table paid for the meal and left. I plan on calling the health department because it's abundantly clear the owner or manager isn't present to ensure their staff meets health department guidelines. We arrived around 5:30, which was perfect timing because by 6pm there was a line of people waiting to be seated. Fishbones is a small restaurant and they do not take reservations, so get there early! We started with the crab chowder and I must say that this is an absolute MUST TRY! So creamy and full of big chunks of crab meat. For entrees our group ordered the Seared Ahi, the angus beef steak, the Ahi tuna burrito, and the Ahi Steak with a side of blackened green beans, sautéed spinach, and jasmine rice. Ultimately, everyone in the group enjoyed their dinners! The only complaint was the Ahi Steak came with no sauce or anything, so because of that and the rice, the whole dish was a little dry and bland. This said the sauce that came with the seared ahi appetizer was delicious, my suggestion would be to offer that as a topping or on the side. We did really enjoy our meal and the ambiance at Fishbones. It reminds me of an old downtown fish house in a big city. We will definitely come back to try more off the menu! read more

I have thought about this place many times but never stopped by. So we decided to try it, finally! On a Sunday afternoon it wasn't too packed, very quaint space. The service was good! Glad they offered split Prosecco, my fav!! After several Yelp studies I knew I had to try the drunken shrimp. Order that for an appetizer, very disappointed. It tasted exactly like what it looks like steamed peel n eat shrimp in broth. Not sure if they have changed the recipe but it had no flavor at all and did not look like the previous Yelp photos. I ordered their special for the week/day (not sure how long they stay) for the price it was very tiny. The base I expected it to be rice but their was way more cabbage mix (slaw) than anything. It was ok, once everything was mixed together. The spinach that I had for my side was blamed and was literally, nothing more than just sautéed spinach. I wouldn't get it again. However, my husband made a great choice! The fried oysters were great! The green beans were seasoned well. Nether less if I return, I would definitely get the fried oysters! read more
