Outstanding experience. I heard it was amazing and quite possibly the best restaurant in Lake Norman and I have to agree. Everything was excellent from the moment we walked in. The table was ready and ours for the evening. We were seated on the porch and were very comfortable there. We enjoyed the service from the recommendations to the banter. It really added to the experience. The food was phenomenal. We opted for a few small plates and one entree to share. This allowed room for dessert! Everything on the menu seemed perfectly crafted. Many unexpected dishes that we want to try. We ordered the heirloom tomato dish (a special), the sablefish, the brussel sprouts, and the yellowfin crudo. All of that left room for the deconstructed key lime pie. Delicious. Worth of reservations. Prime times book up and can book up a month out. They have an oyster happy hour, $2 oysters. Last night, my wife and I decided to try Seaboy for the first time. To set expectations, this is a premium restaurant with prices to match, so I naturally judge the food, service, and overall experience by a different standard than I would a quick burger or wing spot. Seaboy absolutely delivered. From the outside, the building is understated and looks more like it belongs near the beach at Oak Island. Once you step inside, however, it is clean, classy, well-appointed, and charmingly coastal without being overly themed or tacky. It feels like the premium restaurant it is. We didn't make reservations because we arrived at 4:30 on a Friday and never expected the place to be completely slammed that early. Jackie, the hostess, took our name and phone number and promised to call as soon as something opened at the bar. Since there wasn't much room to wait inside, she encouraged us to relax in our car. Sure enough, about 15 minutes later, she called and made sure we got the first two available seats. Samantha, the bartender, was both an excellent server and a talented mixologist. She was friendly, welcoming, and attentive, somehow keeping up with all the drinks for the dining room without allowing anyone at the bar to feel ignored. I told her I wasn't much of a drinker but gave her the name of a liquor I enjoy. She created her own cocktail for me, and it was a solid 10 out of 10. Could I walk in and order that exact drink again? Probably not. Would I trust her to surprise me again in a heartbeat? Absolutely. My wife started with a shrimp appetizer that she said may have been the best shrimp she has ever eaten. I had the Caesar salad, which was the only part of the meal that was merely okay. It was beautifully presented, generously portioned, properly dressed, and topped with excellent cheese. Unfortunately, the dressing lacked the bold, savory punch I expect from a great Caesar. Our entrées, however, were phenomenal. I ordered the swordfish, and it was so good that my wife essentially took it over because she liked it even more than the seafood pasta special she had ordered. Fortunately, her rich, cheesy seafood creation was outstanding, so I was perfectly happy with the trade. I polished off her meal, then finished whatever swordfish she left behind! We ended with the deconstructed Key lime pie. It was flavorful and enjoyable, although, like the Caesar, I felt it could have used just a little more refinement. At one point, the chef and owner came out to the bar, shook our hands, introduced himself, and thanked us for coming. He stayed for a little friendly conversation, which was a genuinely nice and personal touch. Those minor critiques aside, the service, food quality, atmosphere, and hospitality were all excellent. Seaboy has immediately become one of our favorite choices for a premium meal, and the overall experience was absolutely five out of five. We will definitely be back soon. My favorite restaurant in Charlotte area. Chef and his staff trust one another and make my favorite seafood spot in NC. Been here 3 times, Tried most of the menu. Personally each element from appetizers, to oysters, to their staples and even the octopus which wasn't a my normal...it was tender with great flavor which surprised me . Grouper cheeks were amazing as well as any main even the steak or lamb shank which I had last visit. If you go by land or sea you'll be happy! Fantastic gem I'm so glad we found. The chef cooking away right nearby is very cool, and am glad to experience his cooking. Looks like the menu changes often. We started with the oyster shooters and they were great. The brussel Sprouts were on point. Not sure what it's called but we had a salmon and clams small dish that was awesome. The Lamb Ragu was amazing, and even my friend who usually doesn't like the smell of some lamb cooking liked it. For the large plate we got the scallops on risotto and loved every bite. I rarely write reviews, and I've already written one for Seaboy, but this place deserves another. The night started with a complimentary scallop toast: crisp, sesame-crusted, topped with fried garlic and scallions. It was such a thoughtful touch and a perfect start. Next came the mushroom toast, which is one of our all-time favorites. It's rich, savory and earthy, served on perfectly charred bread, and we order it every single time. Then the whole branzino arrived, beautifully charred and topped with fresh herbs and chili, with blistered shishitos and grilled lemon alongside. It was flaky, flavorful and absolutely delicious. I have been so delightfully surprised by the food, service and ambiance at Seaboy. I have looked at their menu multiple times debating whether I would enjoy the food. Finally Seaboy was chosen for a girls night and I went open minded. - The grill oysters, 5/5: just amazing, with my favorite being the creole flavored. I could eat 10 as a snack. I've been dreaming about the oysters. - Fried fish Cheek, 5/5: tender, flaky, great crunchy breading and not heavy. - Tuna Crudo, 4/5: as someone who is usually not a fan of raw fish, the flavor on this one makes me bypass the raw texture. Great hint of spice and nice freshness with the oranges. - Lamb Ragu, 4/5: homemade pasta and tender lamb. - Croquettes, 5/5: just tasty - Scallop Toast, 2/5: hard to taste any scallops and felt very oily. - Octopus, 2/5: our plate had 3 nice sized pieces, was cooked nicely but not much flavor. - Banana Bread dessert, 5/5: great texture and just delicious - Key Lime dessert, 5/5: deconstructed and just fresh and different. The service is top notch, attentive and friendly. I've been here 2 times in a month and it is packed every day of the week. This gem of a place is unbelievably good! It's a quaint spot, so reservations are highly recommended. I visited here over the holiday and was immediately excited, as the entrance provides a view into the kitchen, so you're able to see how precise every cook is about the food that's being served. We were seated towards the back which provided a more intimate vibe - much appreciated. Our server was pleasant and well-informed on both the history of the place and the food menu. As other reviews have pointed out, it's a seafood spot but you have options if your tastebuds call for something else. From the oysters to the main dish - EVERYTHING was great! The menu is very limited (which I knew in advance). We got the oysters (pictured), they were just ok. Shrimp Cocktail (again just ok) and the Crab & Chorizo Croquettes (they were the BOMB). Went in on a Tuesday night with a party of 6 around 8pm (close to closing time). Place was full which is a testament to the reputation of Seaboy (a Michelin-starred restaurant in a town that is not known for high quality restaurants). Here was our experience: Ambiance: Very cute old building in Cornelius. Charming set up. Good for a date night or a smaller dinner. 8.5/10 Service: Our server was awesome. Very knowledgeable and friendly. Also, perfectly attentive. 9/10 Drinks: I had a Jack 12 year for $24 (great price) and an Elijah Craig Barrel Proof for $18 (not bad). My wife had a cocktail which was great and lovely. Bartender was super friendly. 10/10 Appetizers: We ordered 4 oysters which were perfect, fresh and well accompanied by homemade crackers and sauces (10/10). Also, ordered the brussels sprouts which were solid but less spectacular than their description (8.5/10). Entree: This is the one area that was a disappointment. My wife and I shared the tuna with crispy potato salad. I was super adamant that we want the tuna seared/ as raw as possible. Neither my wife or I enjoy cooked tuna. We even joked with the server to just "threaten the tuna with flame" as opposed to cook it. When it came out, it was at least 50% cooked with a little bit of pink in the middle. My wife was super disappointed and this kinda ruined her experience. Maybe we should have sent it back but we ate it. 3/10 If the tuna was cooked correctly, I probably give it a 5 star because we really enjoyed it. But cooking the tuna wrong in a michelin star restaurant after how adamant we were is kind of a huge miss. Maybe we will give it another shot. read more

Easy to drive past Seaboy and think it's a shop or a takeout spot rather than a phenomenal restaurant. The exterior belies the real space, which is cozy and intimate and buzzy. And WHAT A MEAL. Explains why it's tough to get in! We arrived early for our reservation and were seated in the bar (which we like) rather than the main dining room. A little slow to start (perhaps we threw off their rhythm)...but went on for a great meal. Nice selection of reasonably priced and interesting wines by the glass. We started with the crab dip which is served with a lot of delicious focaccia. Truth is, that might have been enough...but we continued! She had the scallops, and I the swordfish. Both really outstanding. The swordfish in particular was impressive -- sizable and thick filet that was, nonetheless, not dry in the least. It's pricey. It's hard to get in to. And that's because it's really, really good. We'll be back for sure. read more

My husband and I have visited Seaboy three times now, and we've vowed to return at least monthly. We are fans of tapas with big flavors, and Seaboy is so good that they deserve to join our regular rotation. The restaurant itself is small, with only ten tables in the back room (reservation only) and eight tables outside, along with several tables/seats in the bar area (no reservation required). Because they are so small, we are glad they offer earlier reservations (starting @ 4pm) for us early birds who enjoy eating when restaurants are less crowded. We've been able to get seating in the bar without a reservation, too! We have tried seven of their dishes, and here's how I'd rank them - Repeat Dishes (in order of favorites) * Lamb ragu - This dish is a favorite, and it's gotten better each time we've had it. If I came with friends and only got one dish, this is what I'd get without a doubt. * Tuna crudo - Definite repeat, and probably the best tuna crudo we've had anywhere, especially because of big flavors imparted by the Asian chili oil. * Sea bass cheeks/crispy skate wing - Definite repeat with whatever fish they have on rotation. We love their homemade tartar sauce, the light and crispy coating, and the quality of their fish. * Shrimp Skewers - This dish is full of flavor! * Scallops with Rock Shrimp Risotto - Our only large plate, this dish was served with three large scallops and perfectly cooked--and seasoned--risotto. On the Fence * Candied beets - This was a large portion for sharing and tasty, but it could have used more candied walnuts. Skip Next Time * Crab and chorizo croquettes - These were large and well-filled. However, we preferred the other dishes we discovered over this one. Seavoy's drinks are well-prepared with great care, and if you request something off the menu, you'll likely get a special creation by the mixologist. The Bulletproof Boulevardier & jazzed up French 75 were some of the best we've ever had! Service has always been impeccable, and the dishes were timed well enough that we never had more than one at one time. The plates also looked like a lot of care was factored into the presentation. They gave us fresh plates after our courses, which I really appreciated. I do wish they offered tableside payments via Apple Pay--or at least via a QR code. However, that won't deter us from being regulars! They have recognized us each time we've had a repeat visit. I love their attention to food, service, and hospitality, and am so glad we have such a great restaurant close to home! read more

The hostess was so welcoming and projects an era of we've got you and you're going to have a wonderful dining experience this evening. Hubby and I went to Seaboy to celebrate our anniversary, and it was among the best dining experiences we've had. First, we were apprehensive about dining on the patio because the heavens decided to open today and the rain was relentless, so did we really want to dine on a patio? Not to worry, Seaboy's version of a patio was lovely, with a perfect temperature and we couldn't hear the rain outside although we were seated at an "outside" table (it was next to the patio cover/drape). We were welcomed by our waiter, Joe R, who offered excellent suggestions throughout - we chose 2 small plates and 1 bigger plate and we each chose a drink. Joe was attentive yet provided us with time to plan how to best order for our palate. He could write the book on perfect service. And the food. It's easy to tell that every morsel is fresh and thoughtfully prepared. We couldn't possibly have eaten more tonight (although we're not uncomfortably stuffed, we had the right amount of food for us) so we'll need to return to try other menu items that looked interesting! And, we'll ask for Joe R! Oh, and the perfect ending to the perfect meal - Joe brought out a deconstructed Key Lime Pie for us, and we had Key Lime Pie at our wedding a few hundred years ago! Can I give this 10 stars? We came here to celebrate my husband's birthday and had the best experience. We sat at the counter, which I highly recommend. It was so fun and impressive to watch the chefs cook, communicate, and work together -- you can tell they love what they do. We tried the grouper cheeks, lamb ragu, swordfish, and octopus, and everything was absolutely delicious. Every dish was packed with flavor and so fresh. The banana bread for dessert was amazing too. We both had Old Fashioneds and they were perfectly made. The staff was super friendly and welcoming, and Johnny, the owner and head chef, was right there in the mix making sure everything ran smoothly. We popped into Seaboy for an early, unplanned pre-Valentine's Day date night as we'd been wanting to try Seaboy. And wow, what a wonderful experience! At 5 pm, the restaurant was already humming and nearly packed with patrons enjoying the Happy Hour oyster special from 4-6 pm. We were lucky enough to grab a pub table between the bar and front porch which gave us a wonderful view of the kitchen as well as soaking up the atmosphere! Our waiter was Tom, a seasoned and well versed man, that truly made the experience top notch! He took the time to walk us through the menu, explaining the experience the owner, chef wanted his patrons to enjoy while there and did they deliver! We took advantage of the oyster special, and had a dozen on the half shell. We settled on a few appetizers, including the phenomenal crab dip, grouper cheeks and crab and chorizo croquettes that were all unique and out of this world delicious!!! Then we shared the branzino, grilled to perfection and tasted beyond delicious! They had a wonderful bar staff, Dana, a local favorite was slinging drinks offering both NA and alcohol based options. I finally stopped by to try the oysters.As soon as I walked in I loved the atmosphere there. I sat at the bar and ordered a drink and oysters. Wow! We ate at Seaboy for our anniversary and it was worth it! Since moving from out of state, we have struggled to find good food in Charlotte. This is a top spot and we will come back. The oysters are the closest you can get to being in New England territory. We also had grouper cheeks, the mushroom toast, and split the steak. Everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection. The spot is so cool. It feels like you should be at a beach, yet it's still warm and cozy, and romantic. The service was excellent. Our waiter recommended a great bottle of wine and we had several people bring our food and/or check in on us-but it wasn't too much. 10/10. I love a handwritten card. I keep them. See photos. Last night my wife and I went to Seaboy for a 2nd time. Our 1st time was 2 months ago and the food and service was amazing. This visit was just as impressive. We had mussels, heirloom tomato toast and the 2 off-menu fish items (wahoo collars and seared amberjack). All dishes were excellent. I highly recommend trying the tomato toast appetizer, best version of a bruschetta I have ever had. The service and staff are exceptional. We had been meaning to try Seaboy ever since we learned it'd be taking over the space. This was our first night out after getting my new job, and it was spectacular all around. Cocktails were on point. Service was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. And the food was incredible--so many different textures and flavors that were delightful. We had some raw oysters (the Fresno chile hot sauce is amazing), the crispy skate wing (the best rendition of fried fish I've had in a long while), the heirloom tomato toast (as our server said, July on a plate), the scallop toast (wonderful contrast of textures and flavors with a chili crisp kick) and the flounder (perfectly cooked and served over some amazing succotash). Finished with a superb slice of carrot cake. Top notch from start to finish. Can't wait to return to start picking off other items on the menu.
