Stopped in around 1 pm for lunch on a Tuesday. It was quiet and we had our pick of seats. They have about 16 different rolls plus sashimi, bowls, and appetizers. I wasn't looking for a beverage at lunch but they did have a full page menu of wine, sake, and cocktails. Their also had a long beer menu on their screens above the bar. Service was quick and the rolls were very good. The Not Your Typical Potstickers were a unique treat between the duck and corn dumpling - a great way to start the meal. Not sure I would call this a sushi place so much as a mid-tier Japanese fusion brew pub that feels a little bit like a strip mall place... Which it is. Ambience is casual...loud music, bar as the centerpiece of the restaurant. We were in with a relatively large group and were delighted they could accommodate us. The service was friendly and attentive and helpful and generally really really good. Menu has a variety of appetizers, only some of which I would think about as being Japanese, and did not have a typical breadth variety that you would expect from a sushi joint. That said, the hot chicken wings and the barbecue ribs were quite good, and, of course, there was edamame... Entrée choice is varied from poke bowls to Ramen to a long list of maki and a surprisingly limited selection of nigiri and sashimi. Interesting and varied cocktail menu, and a nice selection of beers on draft as you would expect from what feels like a brew pub. Only six wines available, all on tap! That said, they were fine given where we were and what we expected. Perhaps I'm disappointed because I was looking for more of a traditional sushi place with more variety. Terrible service & attitude: Asked for a good fruity drink recommendation server huffed, said "I'll get you waters," walked away without any suggestion or menu help. Zero hospitality. Refused my valid mobile ID: Showed my legal LA Wallet (Louisiana's state-issued digital driver's license) accepted everywhere else in NC (TSA, downtown Charlotte restaurants, gas stations, ABC stores but here they claimed "mobile licenses aren't real." Since you didn't care to listen to me or even look at my ID here's YOUR OWN STATES LAW. LEARN SOMETHING: House Bill 199 & related 2025 updates recognizes mobile IDs. I used it through TSA. I used it at the vape store. I used it at the ABC store here! If your staff can't handle modern tech, new passed legislation and laws and by new I mean since 2024( again to educate you all I'll circle back to the NC house bill 199 2024), or basic customer service, train them or lose business. Cool Fish is a funky restaurant with tons of choices, like the loaded spring rolls with spicy crab or the gorgeous Pink Lady roll which is a huge hit. I loved how jam packed with veggies, egg and pork belly the ramen is and the sizzling Korean Short Ribs were a show stopper and oh so flavorful. The Gochujang wings were super crispy and perfectly sauced. I'm a big fan of poke and the Hawaiian Poke Bowl didn't disappoint. Everything was fresh and bright. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the amazing cocktails offered! Mona's Painkiller was tropical, sweet and just gorgeous. Another Juan was a fun take on the traditional smoked old fashioned. This fun spot is tucked away in a shopping center in Cornelius. It's packed on a Saturday afternoon and this was our second visit - the first time we came was the end of 2022 and it was packed then too. Th food is good and the music is great. Both times they've had a dj on deck which is really nice. I tried the Korean short ribs both times and both times I wanted the appetizer all to myself. They are delicious. Perfectly seasoned and perfectly charred - they come out sizzling hot on a cast iron dish with onions and peppers OMG. I had sushi as my entree both times and that was good too, but those short ribs! She did several things that made our night special... 1) None of us ever went without a drink. 2) She took our drink order and appetizer order (delivered them); then took our dinner orders and delivered them in order!!! The vibe here is great...great atmosphere, music (I think there's a DJ in the weekend), drinks, etc. Their tagline denotes they're not just another sushi joint - and that's right! They have numerous options to choose from for food - sushi, tacos, fries, etc. something for everyone! Also, the drink options they craft are good - using top shelf, GOOD liquors for most of the drinks they make (vodkas, bourbons/whiskeys, tequilas, etc)! That right there told me a LOT about this place being legit! The servers are great and friendly! They give you recommendations for food a drink options and are really helpful! Cool Fish is located off E. Catawba and Main St/115/Old Statesville - in the same shopping center as the Harris Teeter. So there is plenty of parking available in the lot, when you go. Also, depending on what time of day you go, you can make it a one-stop-shop and grab everything you need at the time with retail, shopping, etc. Definitely give them a try if you're in the area or passing through! Got carryout recently. First time getting food here. Bad sign that the restaurant was 2/3 empty at 7:30 on a Saturday night. I thought maybe it was because the music is ridiculously loud. When picking up the order, the cashier and I both had to talk very loud to hear each other. She said she hates it, but the owner likes it. Dumb. But the main reason is probably that the food is expensive and bad. $80 for four rolls + 15% tip. The rolls were awful. The rice was very dry and the rolls fell apart easily. The fish all tasty "fishy" and the shrimp tasted old. We ended up tossing half of it. Save your money as there are many better options. read more

Cool Fish, "Not Your Typical Sushi Joint".... Ok, I'll give them that. What makes it not typical for this Yelper is the selection of apps, which they call "Shareables". There are some unique items that show up on a menu here. I couldn't resist the Asian Chicken Waffle Sliders. Probably the highlight of the meal. Tender crispy chicken, nestled between two fresh made adorable waffles. The sauces had a lot going on, a citrus, honey, glaze of sorts. And each slider was stabbed with a toothpick holding on a fresh jalapeño and orange slice. Very well done dish, especially for the price. You would be hard pressed to not find something for anyone on the apps menu. We asked for a kani salad, which our sever says "we don't have that". But after our apps went in, I noticed they do have a crab salad as a side, no biggie. I also opted to skip a sashimi order. Glancing at the tuna in the case on the way in, I didn't see that deep red hue of fresh tuna. And I saw a sushi chef bringing a few packages of what looked like restaurant service vacuum sealed tuna into the sink. But hey, unless the tuna is coming from the lake (and we're all glad it isn't), how fresh could it be? The sushi rolls were all very good. Standard fare specialty rolls, inventive enough with their own touch on things. The rolls were enormous. I would say a hungry four-top could split three rolls and some apps. The pace of the meal was good. They brought the food out as it was ready. Awkward as when food came out, some of our party had food, and some didn't. My manners tell me to wait, but the "bring out food whenever" model signaled to dig in. I might have appreciated all the rolls coming out together on a single platter, or that being offered. Beyond that, everything was really very good, no complaints and I would certainly return. We were here for lunch on a Tuesday at 12:30, the restaurant had a somewhat busy lunch crowd. It's on the end of Catawba, near the new Harris Teeter. They have a full menu till 2am which I'm sure is popular among those fish who come out late night. read more

They have a pretty good selection of rolls to choose from. I personally am not a big fan of rolls, but my family enjoys them. I prefer the nigiris or sashimi. The fish they use is pretty fresh and portion on the nigiri is good. We ordered the Asian Taco this time and honestly, I was left unimpressed. There was so much kimchi that it was very messy and soggy to eat. The pork belly was good but it definitely could have used some other ingredients to elevate it. Stopped in for lunch! Quick friendly service and delicious fresh food. Casual place with a great alcohol list and rotating taps. Experienced the interaction with a rude customer and we all had a great chuckle at her expense (essentially the server doing her take out order was explains that she needed to choose her tip (or none) before process would allow her to sign her name on her credit card receipt ...and she blew up at him (literally screamed) about how much she was tipping in cash and to not ask for a tip (he wasn't). Cool Fish is just that, a cool place to get some raw or cooked fish... in sushi form! I'm know from traveling all over the great globe in search of awesome sushi and this place has made the list. Not only is the atmosphere dope as heck, but the food matches the environment. This is one of the only sushi bars I know of in NC that closes at 2AM. So you can catch a football game, get a cold beverage and have some amazing sushi all in one spot and not have to rush the meal. On my trip I tried the crab salad and the Awesome and Tiger rolls. This was the biggest bowl of crab salad I have had anywhere. There was so much crab meat and it was dressed properly. Most crab salads are over dressed with too much mayo, not this one, it was the perfect ratio. Both my rolls were very tasty as well. The awesome roll (top) was defiantly my favorite. I can't really explain it except to say it was just AWESOME! The tiger roll (bottom) was very tasty as well, I just couldn't finish it as it was a little too saucy for me. We arrived around 5:30 pm on a Saturday night. The restaurant is on the smaller, quaint side with the bar taking up the majority of the space. We were quickly seated and waited on. We ordered Korean Short Ribs as an appetizer with Barveque Roll, Tiger Roll and the Red Dragon Roll. The appetizer came out hot and was really good. However the main course rolls quickly followed which didn't leave anytime to really enjoy the app. The whole process of sitting down, ordering, receiving food and the table cleared took 35 minutes feeling like we were being rushed out the door. I would understand if there were people waiting to be seated but the restaurant was not busy. We would have preferred the courses to be spread out more and the employees not constantly asking to clear dishes away. All in all the food was wonderful but felt more like fast food service. read more

I joked to our favorite server that the music was still set from the previous night's atmosphere; however, we were told that management had decided to play the music that loud all day long, and she was not allowed to turn it down. We had no choice but to leave with the music at such a ridiculous volume (there was one table of two in the restaurant). We felt bad for our server who was out a tip, but we'll never be back. I have passed this restaurant so many times. Friends have told me good things but I never tried it until recently. This review is really overdue but here you go. I was in the mood for poke and Cool Fish had it on the menu. My wife had the Bugogi Bowl and we both were really happy with the results. Good portions, good flavor. My only complaint is that with poke you typically get to pick all of the options. Not a deal breaker but wish that they had more items within it. Service was good. Tried Cool Fish LKN several weeks ago and this place is a keeper if you like Sushi. I like Sushi as do my children but my wife does not like it but probably without reason therefore I dine on Sushi by myself. This place opened in Cornelius some time back in the area we call Antiquity. New development but 100 years ago, would have been in the heart of the old downtown Cornelius. Needless to say, I had diner on my own and it was great. Service was right on from the time I walked in the front door. They asked what I wanted to drink and my request for hot Green Tea was there shortly along with a mini Cool Water Presentation. I ordered a Green Dragon Role which is a very West Coast Item with Avocado and elements that you would associate with a California Roll. They were piping hot and very flavorful. It comes with two rolls so my boyfriend and I each had one. He ordered the tiger roll and I ordered the California dream roll. They were both fantastic! Went here last night with a few friends, just a small place in a strip mall. HIGHLY recommend. I ordered the mic drop margarita, the tajin on the rim was a very, very nice touch. We got a variety of plates and shared them all. The tiger and LKN sushi rolls were fabulous (and I am definitely a Florida sushi snob!). We ordered more! Even their fried rice was cooked to perfection. To top it all off, it turns out that the owner was taking care of our table the entire time! Talk about service. Wow, talk about crashing and burning. We had just a terrible experience, on top of that, we had guest from out of town and it was a birthday meal for them..... Arriving at 5:15 pm, the place was empty. In the past, the small high top tables and chairs were to small for my wife and I as we order a lot of food.... With four people, we tried to sit at the big table in front of the bar. A young man, that has been our server before and always awesome, told us in a rude way that it was only reserved for parties of five or more. But, wait ---- No one was in the restaurant......We explained that we were here to eat and each of us were going to order two rolls. He was short and snotty, said we could not sit there. Okay....... We ordered and had to use the indoor outdoor bar beside our table for all the rolls as each roll was brought out on a plate, eight plates, drinks and water on our table would not fit. About six pm, what do you know, three young ladies were sitting at the table reserved for parties of five or more, they had drinks for 45 minutes before ordering an app. Glad they were accommodated. Sucks to be us. We complained and to be fair, our server, who apologized comped our last round of drinks... The sushi rolls just did not cut it..... The meat to rice ratio was not at a normal ratio, these were more like rice rolls. I ordered the Awesome Roll and it was supposed to have Eel, it had maybe a sliver of eel with a giant piece of avocado. Not what I was expecting. The other seven rolls were just your typical mediocre average rolls that you can find at any average sushi spot in the U.S. On top of that, did you notice I said seven rolls? I did say earlier, our party of four would order two rolls each.... One roll was misplaced, like never showed up, except for on the bill. This was rectified, but still come on. I did email my concerns to the email on their website and had no response.
