We had a really nice date night at Fontana over the weekend. We made a reservation through Open Table and were seated promptly upon arrival. Our waitress was friendly and informative. I loved the Fontana 75, their version of a French 75 with barrel aged gin. As a former KY resident, this scored big points! They were out of most beers that night, so my husband tried the Hugo Spritz on a whim and really enjoy the light, fresh taste. To start we ordered the steamed muscles, which came in a delicious red sauce that paired perfectly with the rosemary focaccia. For an entree, I had the rigatoni and really enjoyed the slow cooked pork. Husband got the pepperoni pizza with hot honey. I was excited to try a local Italian restaurant and experience a new place. The service was good and the food was okay but a few were not to my liking. The Chicken Parmesan and pasta were pretty good, as was the pink sauce. There waitress mentioned about five or six options on the kids menu so they can certainly accommodate the whole family. The pumpkin ravioli had good flavor though the level of salt in the broth was higher than I would like. The calamari had a stronger lemon presence than I would typically seek and it leaned on the chewier side. I left feeling a bit neutral - there were some dishes that were pretty good and others not to my liking. Having been open a few months I'm hopeful the recipes and menu will evolve, so I do plan to try it again in a few months. read more

Had an absolute intense work day so I deserved to treat myself and instead of chaotic tequila and tacos, I chose the newly located lower paced cozy Italian place. Service: My server Kirt was attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. He also had a fantastic mustache and the kindest eyes that matched his calmly excited demeanor. He alone made my decision to come here settled. They boast a variety of handmade pasta and an intimate menu. Food: I chose to start with a glass of Prosecco ($14) and the Fritto Misto (Calamari with pepperonis and a lemon aioli - $17) then was between the Pumpkin Ravioli ($24) and the Fungi Campanelli ($24) for my entree. Kirt described the ravioli as more a broth type sauce with fresh flavors of the ravioli sage and sausage where the campanelli was described as a creamy mushrooms forward flavor. I chose the pumpkin initially but changed my mind as I decided to go with my heart and change to the campanelli. 10/10 best decision ever but first my appetizer. A perfect for 2 sized portion, you could tell the calamari was freshly tossed with its batter that was so light and crisp. I tasted more the batter than the calamari but what really threw my taste buds was the pepperoni is were also coated and fried. It was a pleasant taste but unexpected. The lemon wedge was also coated and fried. The aioli was bland when lemon is a very forward flavor profile. However, IMO all calamari needs to be dipped ‍ and it was definitely a better option than marinara (like every other place does). Portion size of the pasta was absolutely perfect! Granted, I also have a small tummy. I was able to take home leftovers. There's options to add protein (grilled chicken cutlet or shrimp) and I was initially sad that I couldn't add steak as an option; however, I was pleasantly surprised to say that I didn't even notice not having a protein on my dish. Atmosphere: there's two rooms, the front room being dark and intimate with a small bar & a couple high tops. I was seated at an intimate lower two top. The back room was more lit and appeared to be better for larger families or groups. I definitely would suggest this for a great date night or girls night. read more

We had our first dinner at Fontana Di Vino and were beyond impressed with the quality of the food and service we received. Bree was an extremely attentive server and Taylor is by far one of the best floor managers we have encountered in the Lake Norman area. WAY OVERPRICED! We ate here during restaurant week, planing to explore somewhere se hadn't eaten before at a reasonable price. Dinner for 2 and one of the cheapest bottle of wine on the menu with no add ons was over $160 before tip. The entire meal was disappointing: food was mediocre to average at best. It was also very noisy. We definitely won't be returning. The good: Our waitress, Tricia was pleasant and attentive. Definitely the best part of the evening. First course: the meatballs were good; the fried ravioli was tasteless, although at least it wasn't greasy but well fried. Entree: the mushroom dish and the sausage were both good, although not exceptional. Dessert: We both had tiramisu. I've never had tasteless tiramisu before, and it was watery as well. At this price, we should have received uniformly good food, if even if nothing was exceptional. As I said to start, definitely OVERPRICED as well as overall disappointing. read more

Well, for starters, we had a reservation at 5:30. We got there a little bit early went to the bar. Had a great conversation with Bre! Awesome person very professional very friendly. Then we went to our table and Pablo was our waiter. He was the sweetest guy very professional as well. Complete gentlemen. Let us know the specials really attentive to us. The food was amazing! A horrible experience yesterday with a very rude and actually contemptible manager. We dined at this place the 2nd night it opened and the food was delicious but the service was a bit haphazard as is to be expected that close to opening. Yesterday was a different story... All 4 main courses were completely underwhelming, in fact 2 were inedible and sent back. One completely bland with a broth that was like bath water. The other a fish that was served way undercooked and pink inside. Meatball appetizer was lukewarm and the wedge salad dressing was watery and thin. The service from our server was good and our tip reflected that including tipping on the two main courses that were sent back and not eaten. Assistant manager came out and agreed to remove the 2 disastrous main from the bill. Total was well over $200 for 4 people not including the $52 that was deducted. The really ugly part and disappointing part was the manager challenged me on our way out of the restaurant saying everything with the food was as fine. I let her know we would never be back and I would be letting all of my neighbors know on our local facebook group as well as writing a review on yelp. She said "great for you we don't care" I then departed saying they will likely be out of business soon given the lack of food quality, higher than average prices and exceptionally bad customer service. We just went to Fontana on Friday night. I would not recommend it. The dishes were bland. We ordered bruschetta and got some sort of lunch meat on bread with Arugula. I asked our server what this was, and she replied it was 'innovative'. ‍ Service times were also very long. There are better places for Italian food in the area. I'm really not understanding the poor reviews. This place oozes classic New York. From the decor, to the playlist, to the food. Everything is thoughtfully chosen and selected. Deep burgundy entrance room, dark green accents, brass lighting, marble or polished wood table tops. Immediately we were greeted by no less than three front of staff upon entrance, we were promptly seated. Is seating cramped? Yes. Was almost every table booked? Yes. Within two minutes we had water, which was kept full for the entirety of service, our drinks were fresh, glassware clean, and delicious. We ordered the meatballs for the appetizer- was it small? Yes. Was it enough? Yes. It was delicious, and clearly homemade from the sauce to the meatball itself which practically fell apart and melted in your mouth. We each had a pasta dish which was delicious. They have gluten free pastas! A selling point for me personally. We had espresso followed by some delicious white chocolate raspberry gelato. Price point is similar to 131 main. This is fresh and upscale while remaining casual in an elevated way. If you appreciate a from scratch approach, smaller dishes, and intentional choices- this is where you want to eat on date night. read more

They need to update their wine list. The two wines I requested were not available. The burrata salad was disappointing. No tomatoes, just tomato sauce. The Capio entree was bland. Fabulous handmade pasta! Something new for Davidson. My husband and I walked in last Thursday at 5:30 ish. The place was filling up quickly and we did not have a reservation. We sat at the bar, which was very comfortable. The interior design was beautiful. I was thrilled to see they kept the old ice house crane in the main portion of the restaurant at the back of the building and displayed some historic photos near the bathroom area. The homemade pasta was delicious. I highly recommend the adult spaghettiOs. The people behind us got the table side polenta. I've never seen anything like it. Kind of like table side Caesar salad come only different. I think it must be experienced. Hard to describe. read more

Went there with 5 people reservation for 6:45 all parties on time Waited 30 minutes to get seated. Server was all over the place. Forgetting drinks and not coming back to the table. Food arrived almost 1 hour after placing. Although it came out HOT nothing great. Charges for grated cheese at an Italian restaurant are ridiculous, then charged $6 for 4 pieces of a baguette. The restaurant was amazing! Have dined here multiple times and the manager, Christina was very kind and knowledgeable about the company. Her passion for the food she serves is quite impressive. We ordered a cocktail and some bread and both took ages to come out. The cocktail came in a very large beer glass and the bread when it finally came out was cold. Hoped that entrees would be better, but the rigatoni Sugo was so bland I feel like I could've made it at home. Service was fine but I felt like they were trying to get us out and turn our table the whole time. The ambiance was basic. First time here and we loved it. Cozy, beautifully designed. We sat at a bar table by a window. Bartender was our server and she was great. We got the polenta pour app which is prepared table-side, which was pretty cool. It was very flavorful. I got the filet, served with spinach. I was really impressed. It was perfectly cooked. I got the peppers and onions with it. Husband got the rigatoni and loved it. I was thrilled that they have lots of gluten free throughout the menu so I didn't have to compromise at all. We got a bottle of Chianti and I did ask for a chiller because it was warm - so that would be my only critique. They need to have wine bottles at the proper temp. I asked another server to remind her about the focaccia bread we ordered. He said "oh one of our cooks did not show up--so she is helping in the kitchen" HUH?
