Stopped by here for Happy Hour for some fresh oysters and grilled oysters too. Fresh oysters came out pretty quickly and were very fresh. They couldn't tell me much aside from that they were gulf oysters--- undecided if that par for the course, or if that's really just have a single variety. The grilled oysters were really good, with a really good balance of flavors! They felt more unique and flavorful, and would recommend these above fresh oysters if you aren't craving them. Happy hour is 3-7pm and the service overall is pretty good. I came early and it felt like the number of people working at the place might have out numbered the people dining there. Parking is a bit tricky. You can valet, or if you want to self park, you gotta go up the parking garage. Don't forget to bring the parking ticket with you and get it validated (there is a sign by the elevator and stairs to remind you). Only the first 20 min are free, after that parking fee starts at $5. Overall pretty good food, service, and location. Think I'm docking 1 star, just because parking was a bit annoying and prices were a little on the higher side. read more

One of the best meals I've had in quite some time! Also a gorgeous restaurant with attentive staff and bartenders that make it a great dining experience. I was here with a party of 8 from work so we kicked off with apps and drinks. The tuna and hamachi were great, though not especially memorable. The drinks were good but pretty weak. What was really outstanding was the scallop entree. I often don't order scallops because it's rare that they taste fresh and are actually prepared well. These were absolutely perfect with fantastic flavor, cooked to perfection, and melted in your mouth in a way I didn't know a scallop could do. They were also huge scallops so it was a filling meal, compared to most scallop entrees at other restaurants. Unfortunately, we did not try any desserts but they looked delish! Came her for an early dinner on a Saturday afternoon - at 5pm. They were having a happy hour on Saturday which is awesome. Pretty solid wine list with some options for Latin America - the sparkling rose from Argentina was really good as was the rose from Mexico. We got two different ceviches which for six people was a little on the slim side. Both were really good! One was a coconut ceviche and was unique, very good coconut flavor. If you ask they can provide a vegetarian menu - lots of veggie options. I ordered the verdes enchiladas. It was okay, it tasted healthy - could have used more sauce and cheese for my liking. Enjoyed that it was filled with lots of nice veggies. We tried different desserts. One was the El Coco that you got to crack open with a mallet which was fun. I touched down in Houston Friday evening and felt a little hungry, so on my Uber to the hotel, I started frantically searching for "best seafood near me." A little Yelp search pointed me to Caracol - so I just walked in, and they were able to seat me at a high-top, as the bar was pretty packed. The first thing I noticed here was that service is top notch. I had a waitress at my table in no time, which I certainly was happy about because I was ready to eat! And within 10 minutes of ordering, my food started coming out, fresh from the kitchen. And they came out one by one in a very timely manner such that when I was done with one dish, the next would come out pretty quickly thereafter. What I ordered: - sangria: can't go wrong with a cold sangria to refresh the palate! - ceviche de chile canario (lime-cured raw red snapper, chile canario, cherry tomato, cucumber, pearl onion, cilantro, radish): OKAY, this was AMAZING. I love ceviches in general so I knew it would be good, but this was next level! I'm not sure what was in the soup part of this dish (other than what was listed on the menu - it almost tasted like coconut), but I made sure to lick up every last drop of it with the chips that accompanied the dish! And the pieces of red snapper were super fresh and YUM! - ensalada de pulpo (octopus with costeño aioli, pork sausage, potatoes, cauliflower): I had expected a chilled salad dish, but no! The dish was warm, and really it's not a veggie type salad (there's very little greens), but lots of octopus and cauliflower! Loved the roasted cauliflower, super soft bites! And the octoput had that salty flavor without being too overpowering. Definitely leveled out with the potatoes. Great dish. - sopa de tamalayota (creamy squash soup, candied pumpkin seeds): This soup was a lot bigger than I'd imagined, but I managed to finish it as well! I had a wonderful birthday celebration at Caravol. The staff were attentive and they even had a small card thanking us for celebrating with them. The food was great, it was certainly not the usual Tex Mex fare and well worth it. Sadly they weren't enforcing mask wearing as diligently as I would hope. We always have a good meal at Caracol - whether it be for Sunday brunch, happy hour or a nice evening out. We really enjoy the brunch buffet with oysters, enchiladas and lots of desserts. I ordered the MARISCOS AL AJILLO (sautéed scallop, shrimp, lobster, abalone, clams, mussels, octopus, frog legs, garlic, quelites, chile de árbol, avocado-tomatillo sals). It was delicious. My husband ordered the ribs - not as good a choice as mine. Our cousin ordered the churros for dessert along with the EL COCO (chocolate coconut shell, coconut buttercream, coconut ganache, coconut streusel, whipped coconut). The waiter assumed we didn't want the hot chocolate that came with the churros so he didn't send it out to us. We saw another table being served the hot chocolate and we didn't know what it was so we asked our waiter about it and he told us what it was and had it sent to us. Our friends from CA insisted we take them there for dinner after they saw our photos on fb. They ordered the Mariscos al ajillo. I ordered the special of the day - it was a fish. It was good. I was deciding between the special and the PESCADO ZARANDEADO (butterflied boneless fish, wood-grilled, talla sauce). I convince my husband to get the butterflied fish instead and we both preferred his dish over mine. For dessert, I ordered the flan. It was a mexican flan which is a different consistency than what I am used to. It was good but I prefer Vietnamese flan. Other than the waiter thinking we didn't want hot chocolate, the waitstaff on both occasions were fabulous. They kept the tables cleared and waters filled. Location was great. Ambience is great. Caracol is a costal themed Spanish Seafood restaurant in the Houston Galleria area. The costal theme can be seen in the sleek modern decor and the blue umbrellas situated in the patio area. The place seems to be busy, so reservations are probably necessary if you do not want a long wait! My boyfriend and I came for restaurant week and ordered a slew of food so on to the review! Our first appetizer was a masa pancake with what I believed to be mushrooms, mole, queso fresco, and some type of sauce. This was exceptionally good and had great Spanish flavors 4.5/5 Next, we ordered the raw oysters, which in my humble opinion was the best thing I had at dinner. The oysters were HUGE. They also had a Spanish twist and was served with blue corn tortillas and a pico de Gallo garnish. 5/5 Also had the grilled oysters that were topped with bread crumbs. Not sure if it was due to the Houston restaurant week menu but these oysters were really small but had good flavor. 3/5 I had the shrimp and cilantro rice. To be honest this was nothing exceptional and I was slightly disappointed with this dish. The shrimp were good but it seemed like an element was missing from the dish (maybe a sauce?) 3/5 My boyfriend had the pork wrapped with bacon and grilled vegetables. This was done so well and the pork fell off the bone with just a swipe of a fork. This was served with fresh corn tortillas that really pulled all the flavors together. There was also a sliver of sauce neatly tucked away under the delicious meat, oh how I wish I could have swam in that sauce, but sadly there was only a little so I had to ration it out with each bite. 4.5/5 Eh the desert was a little too many flavors and textures for me. I feel like there could have been some editing done when it came to the desert. I had a pistachio cake topped with grilled pineapple with condensed milk and drops of caramel; this was accompanied with dollop of mint ice cream. 2/5 My boyfriend had the chocolate mousse cake with a orange filling. Extremely chocolatey rich cake but the orange fell short for me and didn't pair well. Just think these flavors weren't for me. 2/5 Last but not least the drinks were good but not exceptional. I had the blackberry monito which was good but I would have preferred it to be more sweet. First the service was fantastic, helpful and attentive without being overbearing. The restaurant itself was nice, a little crowded, but that's to be expected for a Sunday brunch. I appreciated the live music, but I'm glad we were seated away from the music, it would have made conversation difficult if we'd sat closer. The food was good for an all you can eat buffet. I really liked the ceviche, and several of the vegetable dishes inspired me to try a few new recipes at home. We had a delicious 4 course HRW dinner at Caracol for 2! - Parking: There's an adjacent parking garage. Parking is free after restaurant validation, so make sure to bring your ticket inside to the restaurant! Plenty of parking w/o the stress of parallel or street parking - Reservations: We had a reservation at OpenTable for 5 & were seated immediately. Would recommend making a reservation as it gets super packed around prime time especially if you want indoor seating at the peak of Houston summers. - Menu: The HRW dinner menu is tailored with 3 fixed options from 1st-4th course. Was kind of bummed about this b/c there's less freedom to pick exactly what you want but it all turned out great. 2 meat-menu options were $49/person, and there is a vegetarian option for $35/person. We got the 2 meat-containing options. My favorites: 1. MEMELITA (1st course): So good. Crispy tortilla texture was perfectly paired with the mushrooms. Loved how warm this was & the mole was to die for! 2. Ostiones asados (2nd course): 3 gigantic oysters with a delicious cheesy bread crumb topping. The touch of lime w/ pink salt was incredible and soooo yummy! 3. Canita de puerco (3rd course): This pork chop wrapped with bacon was HUMONGOUS! The pork melts right off the bone, and the mole with surrounding crisp veggies was heavenly. This was an enormous portion and so worth it. 4. Camarones a la talla (3rd course): Crispy shrimp & delicious rice! Definitely more simple and lowkey than the canita de puerco was still good. The desserts were alright but definitely very rich. I found the ceviche (2nd course) most disappointing b/c it wasn't as fresh as I anticipated & that was one of the dishes I was looking forward to most. Very spacious restaurant and staffs are nice and friendly. They are known for their seafood, and I prefer their tapas menu compare to their entree menu. I have been in caracol. 3-4 times and every time the Food and service were great! My favorite dish/starter is their ceviche! The service was always good and waitresses are very welcoming also very knowledgeable about their menu and wine list . Great hidden gem in the Galleria area. From the moment you enter the restaurant it's amazing. The aroma of the grill cooking steaks is so fragrant you immediately can't wait to try the food. Our waiter's name was Felipe one of the many great waiters at Caracol. He explained the special of the night and the wine list. There are so many great choices of meals at Caracol. Felipe our waiter was always there ensuring we had what ever we needed along with several other waiters and staff. The scallops on a piece of cornbread was to die for. The scallops were melt in your mouth and the cornbread was awesome. The dessert menu was amazing we decided on the EL COCO and it's a chocolate ball that you break open with a little wooden hammer. And the most surprising thing was when we got our check we were expecting to play $300- $400 for the food and the excellent service received and was shocked on how inexpensive Caracol was. Costal Mexican food is my favorite so I knew automatically it was a must try. I've had many people tell me to visit during brunch but I've just never made it by there for some reason. Yesterday I was looking for a last minute reservation to celebrate Father's Day with my mom and I found a reservation here at 8pm. First thing first, it seems to be valet parking only but they work off of tips. We came in around 7:30 and were able to be seated right away. I have to say my first impression was somewhat off putting. The hostess that sat us was kind of rude and I feel dressed inappropriately for the type of restaurant. The service at the table was ok we asked 4 different people for a glass of just ice for my moms sparkling water it took 15 minutes to finally get it. It seems they became more attentive once it was almost time for the check to come! We were offered chips and salsa that came with delicious guacamole. These are $9.50 btw! I didn't see them on the menu (I probably want looking) low key I thought they were complimentary I obviously don't do fine dining often haha. Now to the most important things the food! We had the following we ordered half of the raw oysters (these were good one of them was black on the underside so we didn't eat that one), the camarones alcaparras (these were very good shrimp on a bead of rice with a green sauce and mushrooms on top), lastly I had the NY Strip special (it was thinly sliced with a garlic butter served on top of mashed potatoes with asparagus) this was totally worth the $35 Overall I would return for a special occasion the atmosphere is nice and they do in fact give you that fine dining experience. Although there was a few hiccups with the service and that 1 oyster it will not deter me from going to try the arroz negro that's for sure! read more

Had an amazing dinner on the patio. We have been here before and it has always been very solid but this time was amazing. The food was spectacular - after starting off with the tuna taco appetize (rare with a nice sear, even the guacamole was good and I am not a fan of guac) I had the bass and my wife had a vegetarian dish (MOLE AMARILLO CON HONGOS) that was mind blowingly good. We ended with the chocolate mousse cake. We are not big drinkers and like different wines - so the nice selection of the wines by the glass were a plus. Service was perfect. Tip: If you don't mind a wee walk or don't like valet for the principal there is free parking in the garage above the restaurant with one flight of stairs or elevator right to the restaurant. read more

Overall, I think a 3.5/5 is more apt, but I round down as a rule when an establishment is well regarded and has earned the burden of high expectations. I have done Sunday brunch at Caracol numerous times, and it is never less than exceptional. However, my first dinner experience this past weekend fell just short of the mark. We were seated outside where there is a mid-sized patio area by the parking lot scattered with heat lamps. The tables weren't crammed together per se, but I would've preferred an extra foot or two between tables for safety's sake, especially with waiters and bussers weaving through. We started with a dozen of the Ostiones Asados (wood-roasted Gulf oysters), which were creamy and cheesy. No complaints here; these were great, especially with a squirt of lime. I can't say the same of the Scallop Sashimi, which was recommended as an off-menu special. Though the presentation was artful, the thinly sliced raw scallops were completely bland and the sliced cucumbers imparted the most flavor of any of the ingredients on the plate. My entrée was the Robalo con Mole Amarillo, a lovely preparation of striped sea bass steamed in a banana leaf and served with a yellow mole sauce and topped with mushrooms and cauliflower. The visual appeal and taste of the dish were certainly there, with the tangy, earthy, nutty sauce captivating and challenging my palate. But the fish itself was a little dry and under-seasoned. Our side of Papas Martajadas, smashed crispy potatoes, was interesting in terms of flavor but under-cooked and I wouldn't order it again. Dessert-wise, the Tres Leches was good but not great. The presentation was impeccable again, but the moistness could've been ratcheted up a few degrees. We also sampled El Coco, a chocolate coconut shell that you have to maul with a mallet to expose the coconut buttercream and whipped coconut inside. I actually quite liked this one, but it is very tropical and the rest of my table wasn't a fan. I think my favorite part of the meal might have been my cocktail -- the Zihuatanejo, a mezcal margarita with crème de violette liqueur and salted margarita foam. Wow, definitely one of the best and most well-balanced drinks I've had. It was velvety, floral, and smoky with just enough salt, citrus, and sweetness to even it out. I imagine the menu changes a bit every weekend, but it was a lovely chance to get try a lot of Caracol's wonderful food. Undoubtedly an extremely inspired and refreshing view point on Mexican culture and food. Hugo is a visionary at work in Houston. I've only been here once but was blown away by the food we had. The mariscos al ajillo was one of the best dishes I've ever had to be frank. Perfectly seasoned and cooked proteins and a bountifully flavored sauce. The charred oysters were good but nothing revolutionary. The salasas and guacamole were stellar. The hh menu was good as well we loved the quesadillas and rice and beans. The only detraction with it being very steep. If you're wanting rice, beans and chips and salsa, expect to add essentially 20$ to your bill. I'll definitely be back for special occasions. read more

We started off with the pork Tacos as an appetizer it had a generous amount of guacamole/salsa verde and crema mexicana! We each had two so it's perfect for sharing. I had the Ostiones aka oysters and they were phenomenal. I ordered the smaller portion of 6 but man if i would have ordered the 12 I definitely would have ate them. I am completely blown away by how outstanding service was last night. The boyfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary, which our server congratulated us on and brought out a sweet card saying "Thank you for choosing to celebrate your special day with us! -Tracy & Hugo". She then thoughtfully explained the menu and informed us that we could max-and-match items from the HRW menu but that there would be a $3 upcharge for the el coco dessert (spoiler: it's so worth it). Per our server's suggestion, I ordered a Houston Strong margarita, which was perfect for my palette with silver tequila, St. Germain, grapefruit, agave nectar, and maybe one other thing I can't remember. This right here could have been my go-to summer drink had I discovered it earlier. My boyfriend ordered the Wines of Mexico menu and I chose the Our Style menu but substituted the dark chocolate cake for the el coco dessert. Wines of Mexico menu: 1. Sopa chile poblano: not hot enough temperature-wise but the flavors were yummy. It reminded me of eating elotes with the kernels of semi-dry corn and the creaminess of the soup. 2. Costillas a las brazas: the boyfriend said the wood-roasted pork ribs were cooked "absolutely perfectly" and the meat was falling off the bone, but wished it had more seasoning. I concurred and realized the flavor on the plate was disproportionately skewed toward the salad that had a pucker-face worthy dressing. Wasn't sure what to do with the corn "tostada" chips, but they help settle the sour taste in my mouth. 3. Lomo de res: this 70z beef filet was also cooked to *absolute* perfection and covered with an onion topping to help tenderize the meat even further. I thought the bone marrow sauce was a delicious way to incorporate more of the cow in the same dish. The smashed crispy potatoes were presented as a small pan fried cake. 4. Caballeros pobres: the boyfriend's detailed review of this Mexican style french toast dessert was that "it was very good". I was too enthralled with my own dessert to have a bit of this - sorry, readers. Our Style menu: 1. Campechana estilo df: since these HRW menus are 4-courses, not every course is a full-size, but that doesn't mean they skimped on packing in a very good amount of seafood. I got one decently-sized oyster, a generous amount of shrimp, and a lot of thinly sliced octopus. The sauce coating the goodies was an elevated version of a very smooth cocktail sauce. The bits of avocado, colorful heirloom tomatoes, and onion added some diversity of flavors, colors, and textures. 2. Tamal de langosta: I wish I could have snapped a picture of the corn and lobster tamale surrounded by the abundance of lobster pieces before one of the servers gracefully poured the lobster sauce around the plate. The sauce reminded me of the most delicious lobster bisque I had ever had and I was wishing I had some bread to clean the plate. 3. Pato con huitlacoche: as with all the other proteins during our meal, the duck was cooked beautifully - its crispy skin glistened with duck fat and the meat fell right off the bones. I found the huitlacoche sauce to be overwhelming for my palate and didn't eat much of it to avoid overpowering the natural flavor of the duck. The crispy black truffle rice is quite literally a treat as there are three on the plate presented as bite-sized balls. I ate each in three bites to savor the taste of the truffle goodness. 4. El coco: when desserts arrived, both of our plates had "Happy Anniversary" written on them in chocolate sauce. This dessert is more than just its fun presentation. After giving the wooden mallet a few forceful taps, the thick dark chocolate shall collapses to reveal a flood of coconut buttercream, whipped coconut, and cocoa nib. After taking a few bites in what seems like all white cream, you discover little pieces of coconut streusel treasure and a coconut ganache trail. Regretfully, I struggled to finish this dessert and the boyfriend was just as full. A few minutes into digging into our desserts, our server brought out 2 glasses of complimentary champagne to further commemorate the occasion and also waived the $3 upcharge on the el coco. Little details like this in addition to the outstanding overall service really made our night forever memorable. read more

Delicious!! I love love Caracol. The food, the service, the decor, the patio... it's all great! I have had their scallops several times and they are always delicious. The roasted oysters and some of my favorites! The pork taquitos are delicious! The calamari is thick and meaty and different than other places and it's a really nice change. We've never had anything that we didn't really like to really love. It's all good. You can't go wrong. Dessert: El Coco is a fun and a great for sharing. It's more complex in flavor and texture than it first appears. So try it if you like chocolate! Also, for my friend's birthday, they brought out banana bread pudding. Amazing experience. Dinner was excellent we started with the CEVICHE DE CHILE CANARIO and CAMPECHANA ESTILO D.F. both were delicious the CANARIO was my favorite I wanted to lick the bowl! For dinner I had the MARISCOS AL AJILLO sautéed scallop, shrimp, lobster, abalone, clams, mussels, octopus, frog legs, garlic, quelites, chile de árbol, avocado-tomatillo salsa, and let me just say it was amazing this dish alone would be a reason to return to try more. Good food but slow service during lunch. We had a lunch reservation for 5. We wanted to try it for the Houston Restaurant Week. When we walked in they couldn't find our reservation and the girl went to help someone else. The other lady there helped us and found the reservation but she said she couldn't sit 5 only 4 inside. We could sit at the bar or outside in the 100 degree weather. We sat outside near a fan and it was semi shaded. It wouldn't have been bad if it weren't for the humidity and the long periods of time we'd be without help. I got the watermelon appetizer, chicken kale salad and tres leches. The food was all very good even the tres leches even though it came with some weird fruit on the side. I would have given more stars if the service had been more attentive. read more

Alright, I'm not here to bash anyone or make anyone lose their job- bc let's face it ur working valet for a restaurant ur most likely going anywhere in life. I had a party of 10 at this place, everyone in my party valets. We go and enjoy our meal (barely) 1. Food is overpriced and dishes are overrated - if u want authentic Mexican food there's plenty of other places to go. 2. Service sucks - it's literally ppl who can't speak English. But who I am to judge. 3. Valet is filled wit morons. So I'm leaving this over priced restaurant and they lost my keys lol who cares right? Valet attendant comes and has the audacity to say "I'm sorry for Inconvenience but we lost ur keys can you come back tomorrow" My initial response is "what the fuck? Overal story is valet lost my keys. Ruined my birthday night for my friend and made me waste money on an Uber not only from there but to come back the next day. I wait 24 hours plus for my keys yes I'll give credit - they gave me a free bullshit Sunday buffet meal to me and two other ppl. I waited two hours for my keys to show up. Joshua was barely pleasing and the other GM was nowhere to be found during all my issues. Long story short is if u want over priced Tex mex food. Go somewhere else. We want here for our anniversary during houston restaurant weeks and it was spectacular! Their happy hour is a great deal, we got the dozen raw oysters which were smooth and fresh. Highly recommend! The service was on point, just enough care and space. I highly recommend the meats here, we had both the ribs and the pork shank were both cooked extremely well and fall off the bone. For dessert, they were accommodating with my diet restrictions (no gluten or dairy) and had a great sorbet. My husband got the churro and he said they were the best he has had in his life! read more
