Beware that if you do not have an amazing experience and leave an honest review, she will probably harass you too and expect you to retract your review because she apologizes, yet is defensive and argumentative in the same breath.**** Planned to have dinner here with my Uncles and Aunts while in town. They raved about how wonderful eating out on the deck was. Inside was all wood, like the hall of a ship and rather dark in my opinion. I know it's unfortunate but we walked up to the hostess stand and the girl informed us that the fryer and the grill top were not working. We asked what were our options and she handed us a waitress slip with *maybe* 10 items on it including soup, salad and kid pizza. BUT what irked me more than their equipment being in disrepair was the hostess's attitude. My Uncle thanked her for letting us know and she had some reply like, "Yeah, why wouldn't I tell you?" Very strange. Not a simple "You're welcome." Or "Sorry for the inconvenience." I know it's not like the restaurant WANTED their equipment to fail but I think they should train their hostess on better customer service. I do have to say that the woman working in the gift shop was LOVELY. She suggested another restaurant for us to go to (The Franklin House) and even NOT recommending another suggestion (savings us from another potential restaurant fail.) I visited captain jack's back in august. What a gem. I see how this can easily be a local's favorite. The ambiance is fun and welcoming; mostly filled with locals. Given that it's a small town, my friends and I definitely stood out, especially after playing some Feid and Karol G on their boombox haha. The staff was cool and joking with us. I didn't really try much of their food, since we were normally out there after dinner. We did order the lobster bisque which was amazinggggg. Like really good. that, and their wings. I'm a sucker for a nice crunch and these were made just right. I recommend this spot for anyone visiting or new to the area. I can see it being a great way to get to know your neighbors. read more

A real disappointment. Went for lunch today. We were seated quickly. We ordered two appetizers and waited... and waited and waited . They finally brought out the main dishes. Still no appetizers. We ended up cancelling the appetizers. The "Chicken Castaway" was bland, at best. The cheese on top was a congealed mess. Luke warm food. The french fries were less than lukewarm. We've eaten here before and like it. This trip was a major disappointed. Will not be high on my list of places to eat anymore. read more

If you do a bit of research, you'll find here a glowing review I posted just one year ago. As we have always loved Capt. Jacks, yesterday we took friends to join us for a bite. The place was hopping (as it was a game day) yet the hostess seated us promptly, we ordered quickly and drinks were served in record time. Only to bring to attention, even the best restaurants can have a bad day. Our delicious but tepid soup arrived after our entree's (no crackers) and the entree's were practically inedible. We were fairly hungry from traveling all day so at least it "filled the hole"...what little we ate. This is not intended to be a terrible review but to point out the fact that one shouldn't judge on one bad experience alone. We know Captain Jack's quality yet yesterday it was severally lacking. Stopped by on the way back home while visiting and it was a real disappointment. I knew family that used to go to this restaurant maybe 10-15 years ago and used to enjoy it, but turns out it's changed for the worse. Looking at reviews now, I'm realizing I should have checked reviews before stopping here. And seeing the owner's replies to some of the comments doesn't exactly instill confidence in this business. We were seated reasonably quickly but then ignored for 20 minutes, during which they never even took our drink order. We finally were able to flag a server down to order drinks (just water) and then placed our order for food, and ended up waiting over another hour for what ended up being for nothing. The server never came by to refill water during that time and never brought out the food we ordered. We also only ordered salads, a soup, and a quesadilla, so the long wait was even more surprising. Looking around, this seemed to be the common experience and plenty of customers around us were voicing their concern at the wait and lack of service. The server we did actually see once seemed visibly bothered (and I'd even go as far as to say she was dismissive and like she had an attitude with everyone), and she never came back around. Waiting that long without even a water refill or a table check is disappointing. It looked like it could have been a cute place to go, but I'd recommend you skip it and try anywhere else, especially if you're hungry and want to expect to eat anything within a 2 hour window. read more

This was my first time here. We were a group of 7, and waited about 30 minutes past our reservation time for a outside table. I do recommend that seating that if you like harbor and boat watching. The list of things that were on the menu but not available last night was extensive. No worries, just pick something that is. Two of us had breaded cod, one as the dinner, a huge serving and a sandwich. Both came with lemon an NO tarter sauce. Fortunately they had Mayonnaise and pickle relish packets so I made tarter sauce for both of us at the table and added a little lemon for tang. The medium cheese burgers both came rare,not sent back, and the lobster wraps were just fine.. Staffing is still a issue every where so I had to go towards the kitchen to get what I needed for the fish. It all worked out. My cod was the biggest serving I ever had. It filled the oval platter. I wound up bringing home half and served it with eggs for breakfast. All good. There is vintage music combo that plays on the upper deck till 8 pm, so we had a nice background as well. The name of this place tells you what you need to know: go here to have a good time; it's a tavern, not a fancy restaurant! We ended up here twice during our stay. The first time, dinner indoors, was fine. Good drink selection, good fish fry, decent tacos, friendly service. The second time we came, we were outside and upstairs in the so-called "tiki lounge," though there is nothing really tiki about it. Good music, live or otherwise, and great view. We've been out here a bunch of times, and this last visit will probably be my last. Here's why. -We went upstairs to the rooftop deck to listen to music, eat and drink. We ordered drinks but were told if we wanted food we'd have to sit on the back part of the deck. We didn't want to - we wanted to listen to music. AND there were people sitting in our area eating. So... what's the deal? -They have a big notice on their menu that the menu pricing is CASH pricing. If you use a credit card they will charge you an extra 3.9%. Really? Why don't you just bury that in the cost on the menu and not tell us. And 3.9% That's just outrageous. Thank goodness we had some cash. -Drink prices are crazy. $7 for my boyfriend's draught beer! $9 for Crown Royal Shots. $9 for a mini dixie cup. My friend's bill was $127 for drinks. And of course she paid with a credit card so..... It was cold out so I went downstairs to buy a sweatshirt. Long sleeve t-shirt was $25. Pricey. The downstairs bar and restaurant was empty. Too bad. Not sure where the bad reviews came from and I'm sure they were honest, but I've got to tell you, just visited Captain Jack's and had one of the best experiences we have had at a tavern/bar in a long time. We got there, they were busy considering it was 82 degrees, sunny and the face the bay. We were welcomed very cordially and got seated in the bar/breaze way which was perfect for us. Waitress was friendly and very efficient given the size of the crowd. We ordered their full size fish fry-excellent-got 2 sides which was 2 baked potatoes (one for my wife)-best baked potato I've had in years-huge, fluffy and fresh. My wife ordered the coconut shrimp which also was excellent. So all in all, Captain Jack hit all the points when a person spends a good dollar-friendly, great service and excellent food-we will be back. read more

Definitely get the onion rings as they were the best thing we ate from the menu! They have a ton of seating both inside and out. My experience at Captain Jacks was ABSOLUTELY disturbing. our waitress was extremely impolite and quite frankly did not accommodate our needs efficiently and effectively. Her responses were quick and dismissive (Bitchy personality). Our food was DOUSED in oil. There's a lingering fattiness that detracts from the flavor profile. I felt as if my cholesterol levels were risen with each bite! Even though the restaurant was a ghost town, our waitress was not engaged in creating a welcoming environment for our party. Her and her fellow coworkers sat back and pointed and laughed at us ( potentially body shaming). For reference I'm on the bigger side. They let us drown in the mystery of finding out how to pay for our un-splittable check, after not informing us beforehand that it would not be an option to split if we had ten people, even though some people were paying together which would only make it split in 7 ways (The limit was ten, we had lower). The hostesses had standoffish auras as we entered, and as we told them how many were in our party, they might as well have told us to fuck off (MIND YOU AGAIN, the restaurant was nigh-empty.) We didn't receive all of our orders either. And not to mention, she damn near robbed us with the auto gratuity that was immensely undeserved after only asking for drinks/food, and disappearing until it was time for her to milk us for money (She didn't even bring out the food, others did). read more

We went for the free chicken wings on your birthday for my boyfriend. We received 3 dozen of different sauces of wings. They were cooked just the way we like them and were very tasty. We also ordered nachos and calamari. Very disappointed in the calamari as it had no taste. Waitress asked us how it was and we expressed it so she wanted to see what she can do and took the calamari to her manager. She came back to the table and told us since you ate half of it there was nothing she can do and didn't bring the dish back...LOL The restaurant was packed for a Saturday night and our waitress was very attentive. There was an acoustic band playing which were great and they sang happy birthday to my boyfriend which was great. The restaurant allows you to bring in your own cake for special occasion and just asked to bring in your own plates. It was nice. Jacks has been a Sodus point destination for years and they always have top notch food and service you can't beat the view either

They are following NYS restrictions. Sanitizer staions are available. We sat in the dinning deck inside next to the water way. I have never beed seated in this area and now it will be a request when not sitting out side! We came for lunch and we thought it was not busy until we were sat. Everyone nicely spaced and the area was huge. I order the Nachos with the chips on the side and pretzel bites with cheese sauce. Very tasty. Drinks were some what slow and we forgot to order 2 to make up the time difference. It seems every where is lacking in getting drinks to rhe table or we just drink faster then the average person. My husband had no complaints about his fish sandwich. The view was wonderful. This made up for our last visit when we haf badly made fish Fry's and boycotted going there for about a year. Our favorite " The Bay Streets" is not open for lunch and we decided to give the Captain a chance. The disappointment was we would of liked to have had dinner type options. Dinner was not until 5pm. They have a Prime Rib special on Monday Nights. We still enjoyed the meal. read more

Not impressed. This has so much potential too! There is a definite NEED for waterfront dining and we have a lot of frontage in this area but not many do it right! Figure it out, travel to other establishments in other lane front towns and find out what they do to make them successful. Flies! Everywhere! Wait staff aloof. Not welcoming and seem annoyed when you ask for something. If you hang out upstairs on the tiki bar roof, that's a better vibe. We won't eat there again and there is not a lot of choices out here so that says a lot! read more
