Hugely Disappointed. Grew up in Rochester, and every drive past Orbakers I would never miss stopping. My last visit to Rochester, October 2024, visited and had a cheeseburger and a Zweigle's. Just like the old days everything was delicious. Visiting Rochester for this summer, ate there last week. AS it seems to be the "new normal" with restaurants, new owners, the prices increased while quality decreased... I ve never seen before, a hamburger costs $7.50 while a hotdog is more, $7.75 ????????? The burger was not very tasty and really, really thin.. So, as a loyal customer of greater than 50 years--- I will no longer go back. It is not that good anymore. I started coming over 40 years ago. It's definitely expanded over the years. It brings back a lot of good memories. The staff is always friendly and top notch. The decoration really hasn't changed much since I was a kid, and that's perfectly fine with me. The food, as always, was hot, fresh and hit the spot! read more

We had to experience Orbakers again on our visit to the Sodus area. Still good, though I remember my White Hot being a bit bigger and more flavorful--perhaps nostalgia. No dogs allowed inside--and it was raining pretty good outside so that wasn't an option. They also don't give out cups for water anymore, since people were abusing it and getting soda. 3 bucks for a water bottle! The sundaes are still tasty, though inflation has brought them from $1 to $1.95. Still a great deal! Service was friendly and we had a tasty dinner. read more

We stopped by at this diner for work lunch. They have quite a bit of sandwiches, wraps, etc. I had their steak sandwich and it was amazing! The steak was tender like the ciabatta bread and it blended together amazingly. We also got ice cream to go and the staff definitely hooked us up good! A lot better food than I thought! read more

So sad to see this place decline in quality. The original owner was a Cornell hospitality grad. His recipe for success was simple: quality in a roadside drive in. Fresh ground round burgers. Great meat sauce. Great crinkle fries. Ice cream floats etc. Most importantly the original owner steamed his buns - the new owners want to charge the price of quality without delivering it. My wife and I were coming back to Syracuse from Rochester last night when I remembered a hot dog joint on 104 that I had been to 35 years ago. I couldnt remember the name of the place but I did remember it was a great place to eat. As we were driving for a while without finding this mystery place I figured they had gone out of business (like so many other places that couldnt keep up with the chains) and we almost stopped at Burger King because we were so hungry. I decided to keep going and find another restaurant when a couple miles down the road there it was!!! I was actually excited when we pulled in. We sat at the counter and my wife and I both ordered the cheeseburger garbage plates with everything but relish and I have to say this was one of my top 10 meals! IT WAS DELICIOUS!!! I had a milkshake with my plate and it was awesome too. We were so happy with the food the server brought the owner and his wife out to meet us. Great folks! They told me this place almost became a Dollar General before they took it over!!! What a waste of a wonderful tradition for the people in that area. We do a lot of what we call "cheeseburger rides" on the motorcycles with friends and I have no idea why it took so long to get back to this place... I would make a long story short but its too late to do that. We are looking forward to returning here with my son (who was with me 35 years ago) and friends often. Delicious grilled chicken and crispy real onion rings were prepared carefully and delivered to our table after ordering at the counter. High quality and great service. On the downside, they need to use bigger, better rolls as the standard roll for their burgers. As good as the beef might be, it's sad when it all falls apart when you pick it up! Meh. Grew up coming here once a summer and it was amazing. Super underwhelming and a little disappointing with the new ownership. Menu prices don't match what's on the wall (it's expensive) a ton of flies inside, and the food wasn't good. The service was friendly though. Good roadside hamburger/ ice cream stand with indoor seating available. Burgers are decent, fries are usually nice and hot but today they were just warm and the ketchup tasted funny (? like vinegar). It's definitely a nostalgic & iconic drive in, and worth the visit as you're traveling route 104 or staying in town. read more

Have been enjoying their ice cream for a little while but yesterday will be the reason I never come back. Ordered a chocolate shake to find hair in it, no big deal I just asked for a new one and was actually very good. So with that said I decided to try out the food. Bad move, took one bite of my burger and tasted completely rancid. Gf took a bite to try it to which she spit it out. Woke up with food poisoning today. The server looked like she hated her life because management was constantly at her about stuff when she was awesome to us. I complained to the manager to which she took my burger out of the trash smelled it and told me "looks like a normal burger to me" then told me I can't have a refund. This used to be a go to stop for us when we were in the area. Great food, good service and a bit of the nostalgia of the old roadside drive in. Sadly it seems that the times have caught up with an old classic. On our last two visits the service was erratic and our food came several minutes apart. Some of the staff won't even allow you to leave tomatoes off of your sandwich. Even worse, on one visit, we had to send my wife's garden burger back... Twice... Because it was still frozen in the center. On another visit, our granddaughter ordered a fried chicken wrap and the chicken was actually raw. That should never happen! The staff eventually corrected both issues but it seems like it's a thing now. Going to miss this place. read more

Greasy goodness!!! Loved watching the workers slide around the floor with all the grease on the floor. Definitely brought back memories. The Empire burger hit the spot and the Zweigle's white was great with meat sauce. Onion wings were nice and crispy. Don't miss the dollar hot fudge sundae. read more

Food is pretty good but all of the crazy fees and prices are disappointing. You have to pay $3 for a bottle of water - no free water even if you sit at the counter. $3.50 for a small fountain drink. 3% fee for using a credit card. read more

I am not sure why people complain about this place. It is a great burger joint. It is a drive out on 104. For us it is well worth the drive. It's not gourmet or 5 star dining. It is family food. The burgers are great. The fried clam strips are crunchy . The fries are hot and crispy. The fried mushrooms are one of my favorites. The best were the bar b que beans. To top it off my daughter had two scoops of chocolate ice cream. The scoops were so large it broke the cone. To top it off they have started a service where you can buy a meal for someone who can't afford it and they will put the receipt on a board for those in need. The food was OK but the price was really high for the quality we got. The drinks were lukewarm and one of them was wrong. The gravy fries were good and the portion was big. The burger was OK. The meat was a bit thin and greasy. The bun had trouble holding up to the grease and tomato juices. My boyfriends onion rings looked tasty but seemed a little overcooked. Two burgers, one onion ring, one gravy fry, one small fountain drink and one medium fountain drink were $34. They were short staffed, which happens. But the majority of the tables in the dining room were not clean and there were a number of flies coming in through the entrance. Seating options outside are nice. read more

We've been driving by Orbakers for a couple years now and have always said we need to try it. We finally made the stop one day and it didn't disappoint. Good burgers and fries! We didn't have to wait long for our food at all. The only issues we had: Cash only (who carries cash these days? The staff is nice and the food ok, but word of caution, the rest. adds 4% to the bill if pay by credit card (Visa in my case). If this add-on is mentioned in the menu, it wasn't obvious. Passing on 4% to the customer seems high when considering recent google search stating credit card companies typically charge 1.5% to 3.5% to merchants (other searches said Visa charges 1.4% to 2.5% per transaction). Personally, I would rather see higher food prices on the menu instead of hidden extras found in the fine print of the receipt only after you order OR make this clear upfront.. Lack of transparency is never a good look. read more

The nice young lady at the counter made a mistake and upcharged my daughters kids meal and also charged us for a milkshake for her. She told us she would bring us the change 3.50 plus tax the manager came out with 2 dollars and preceded to tell me my math was incorrect. My review started off as 3 stars, but has now ended up as 1. Placed our order online where they overcharged us significantly for a pick up order compared to what they charge in the restaurant. GrubHub says it's the restaurants option to charge what they want. They literally did the same thing for us they would have done if we went into the restaurant. The $13 burger was overcooked, and my order was completely wrong, the $9 fries were burnt and the $4.50 root beer was the size of a drink you get in a kiddy meal. I came over here while I was waiting for my trailer to be loaded. It was as I expected, old and slightly grimy but decent enough. I ordered the Hollywood burger and a shake. This was the worst food I have had in ages. We ask for sausage patty and instead was served a dried out sausage like. It was terrible. The roll was stale. Just a very bad experience Will never go back. The service was not accepted. How do you give someone a sausage link when we has asked for a patty. This place has been around forever- or at least since the 30's and even after all this time it still doesn't disappoint...well that is according to my Dad who use to stop at Orbakers coming back from their family vacations to the 1000 Islands. Last summer we were out on 104 and my Dad suggested we stop in for some lunch- it was a great choice! The cheeseburger was perfect and the onion rings were crunchy and delicious. My Dad had a hamburger with hot sauce that he really enjoyed. And how can anyone go to Orbakers and not get an ice cream?!?!?! Best way to end a meal but be ready to roll yourself out of the joint to get to your car- you'll be full! read more
