I was so disappointed as this was the worst meal I ever spent $37 on. The burger tasted old and when I got home it didn't stay long. My sister asked for a gluten free bun for her burger. They gave her a stale bun in a wrapper not opened and I bugged with cheese and onions on a paper plate. The bun was so stale and for what we paid this was just bad. Bill Grays is a nice affordable place to eat, drink and hangout! Definitely bar food that's fast and delicious. When I'm in the mood for a cheeseburger French fries and a cold beer to go along with a sports game.. this is the place to go! Lots of places to sit, booths tables or at the bar. It has been a while since going there and now I remember why and today was even worse than I remember. Called and ordered my plate for pickup, asked for a side of onions, since I ordered extra onions and really didn't see any. So I drove home and wondered why the butter in the plastic single serve cups wasn't melted. The entire plate was cold. They must have just scooped a glob of sauce from a freshly opened can or jar and plopped it all over. Not only was the sauce cold, it had no flavor, just heat; heat doesn't have flavor, it's just hot. When I called they told me my order would be about 10 minutes, I got there in 6. I ordered the home fries and hots, well done. No way that plate should have been sitting on the pickup window, but it was. I don't even think the hots were Zweigles. Every Rochesterian who knows Zweigles would instantly think the same. These DID NOT LOOK like Zweigles . They were much larger than Zweigles and in this case bigger isn't better. To make matters worse, when I picked up my order, judging by her uniform, a manager of some level handed me my food, so if she is a manager of some sort, I am horrified that there is no quality control and I was served food that had not been cooked to the safe temperature of 165 (until I microwaved the heck out of it at home) She and the cashier were nice; the cashier was very helpful, but the food was awful. Today was Great Plate Tuesday and I was there at exactly 12:32 pm. At the peak of lunch hour, there was no line, no people waiting for orders, no orders but mine to be picked up and the food is the reason why. Bill Gray's is a true local place. I always come back every time I'm visiting Rochester. I love their fries and always get them with gravy. It always hits the spot. And I get a kiddie vanilla ice cream. It wasn't the best consistency when I got it, but it still hit the spot. A cheeseburger meal, side of fries, and tiny ice cream were about $25. Was stopping by in Rochester to get my girlfriends nails done at #1 Nails on Dewey and passed by a couple of Bill Gray's. As a man, you get hungry while waiting for mail stuff to get done. If you clean the grill after a whole day of burger-making, then you will see "Bill Gray's Grease." This store, however, is "Bill Grays in Greece." There's a key difference. I was here very recently, probably 6 weeks ago, getting Abbott's custard and some snacks from Bill Grays. They have cheap burgers, white hots, dogs, and garbage plates as well as other kinds of sandwiches. Their food is basically the same at all locations. However the service and decor and atmosphere is not. I'm not really a fan of this Bill Gray's. It takes forever to get served not just because it's busy but because employees don't have a good system of serving the outside crowd and the inside alike. They have some attitude, as well. And dirty tables with not too many outlets in-store. Plus they keep their AC a little low for my tastes so it can be a little humid inside. I prefer the Bill Grays way out on Culver and the best one is down in Henrietta. If you do eat here, though, I recommend the "world's greatest cheeseburger." And even moreso, the Abbott's custard, although again, it's not my fave location for that. read more

When it comes to reviewing Cheeseburgers and plates, that is my forté. I've had plates and burgers all over the 585 and honestly we have a lot of quality places here locally. However, after officiating a wrestling match at Arcadia, I decided to give this place an opportunity to shine. Within an hour of closing, I didn't have the highest of expectations, but I was hungry and a BG burger was calling my name. Upon entering the establishment, I was a little taken aback of how immaculate the place looked. If a french fry was to fall on the floor you could impose a 10 second rule and still be fine here. There were a handful of people in the establishment as well as a handful of workers. I ordered two cheeseburgers with extra sides (pickles and meat sauce)....I need my burgers drenched in their sauce. Cashier was extremely pleasant for a late Tuesday evening. I found a nice quaint booth and noticed they now served Pepsi Zero. You don't see too many places offering such a fine soda unless they have those fancy freestyle machines (not sure if Pepsi has a similar machine) at some local places. I'm a Coke Zero kind of guy, but Pepsi Zero is no slouch either. Anywho, my meal came to me within 10 minutes. The cheeseburgers were made to perfection, toppings neatly assorted (lettuce tomato and meat sauce) and the free extra sides were given without a bat of an eye (5 dill pickles, 5 sweet pickles and 5 meat sauces). I've eaten a lot of cheeseburgers in my life from fast food to dine-in burgers and, I'm not going to lie here....Bill Gray's makes the best gosh darn cheeseburgers and let me tell you folks, they ain't skimping on the tomatoes. I guarantee you ask for extra tomatoes too they will give them to you. If someone was to ask me what the best burger was in the 585....without doubt, I would tell you that Bill Gray's has the hands down best cheeseburger. It's the perfect size, the sauce is on point, and the toppings are fresh. The DiPaulo rolls are a perfect match for their patties. I love this place and kudos for having such amazing staff that Tuesday evening. Approaching closing time, I know it can be tough to finish strong, but they all had great attitudes! I tip my hat off to them. My only beef (no pun intended) with ALL BILL GRAY'S is this.... When you order a cheeseburger plate....you get 2 JUNIOR sized burgers. Even though you get two LEGIT Zweigel's when you order a dog plate, you get tiny burgers for the plates. I wish they were a little more transparent about this, but that's my only concern. I believe for $5 more you can upgrade to normal size patties. I would suggest Cheeseburger plates at $7.99 and Monster Plates @ $9.99 (normal sized burgers and maybe a tad more mac salad and fries). The food here isn't bad. Simple, basic burgers at decent prices. However service typically leaves much to be desired. The counter is staffed primarily by what seem to be HS students. As one can imagine, they seem more interested in socializing amongst themselves than doing their jobs. Today, i put my order in with a young man who looked positively angry to be there. Fortunately, when i picked up my order, i was served by a pleasant young lady who actually seemed interested. Ok so we have been eating at home for the past two + weeks because of the Coronavirus and social distancing so we were dying for a fish fry. We ordered it by phone to pick up. Only 15 minutes-not bad at all! It was pretty busy with people ordering and waiting to pick up. Everyone kept their distance but were all still pleasant. I got the fish home and it was big, flaky and just delicious. I only wish I had taken a picture but hunger won this time so I missed the opportunity. Coleslaw, fries and a roll rounded out the meal . Only $11.99 and worth every penny. These are difficult times at best so I appreciate the Bill Grays crew coming in every day to cook for us. So nice to have some normalcy in these trying times. Ehh. The food here is just ok... Flat-style burgers are palatable, but better versions are to be found elsewhere. The food here is fast and filling, but pretty unremarkable.I do like the spicy sauce that is available on cheeseburger with "everything". A very sloppy eat though, and the roll was soggy halfway through (I am a slow eater...my husband didn't have that problem). This place is a bit of nostalgia on a bun. The burgers aren't fabulous but they're pretty solid. For my family and I, we pretty much come here to get the hot sauce. A cheeseburger with everything is our standard order and, usually, a bushel of napkins on the side. The fries are good as well and they give you a lot of them. Usually one order of fries is enough for two people. A plus to this location is that they also have a counter for Abbott's frozen custard. There aren't too many places where you can get Abbott's in November so this is a treat and a half. read more

Went to Bill Grays for the first time in about two years! We love this location. Took our three boys, my husband, myself and my 17-year old brother. We ate all the way in the back to try not to bother other customers because our kids are young. I actually ordered something other than a burger. I had the Philly cheesesteak and it was AMAZING. Never had it here before and it was so good! Definitely recommend trying it. You'll love it. Food is expensive but definitely worth it. read more
