Edamame & goat cheese ravioli served in a brown butter and mushroom sauce with basil and walnuts

Friday nights dinner was at Bernard's Grove in Greece kind of by Braddocks Bay. I made reservations even though we didn't need them. So there was ample parking which was good and we arrived early at 5:30ish and our reservations were for 6 pm. We walked in the door and spoke with the hostess who was very friendly and nice and we had a nice table with a view of the lake. I have to say that all of the waitresses and waiters help each other out there. The 1st waitress came to the table with our bread and butter which was soft. And then our waitress came to the table and introduced herself. Which was quite nice and she was pleasant. So we ordered our ice waters with lemon and I also had a glass of wine Riesling. She gave us our drinks and then she took our food orders we both got the green salad and she then took our food orders. I ordered the Edamame & Goat cheese ravioli which is excellent as I've ordered that on a previous visit. And then my significant other got the lamb chops. He said they were excellent and he ate them all. The lamb chops also came with whipped sweet potatoes & grilled asparagus with balsamic vinegar on it. I had to try the veggies and they were excellent, chefs kiss from the Chef on that one. And then we got the Chocolate mousse with grand marnier and that was a perfect end to a great dinner.

Mostly fat and grizzle. Unappealing and unappetizing. Prime rib

I had high hopes for Bernards, but my experience fell well short of that of other Yelpers that rave about it. I do like the location and charming character both inside and outside. Unfortunately the rest didn't live up to a fine dining experience. Prime rib is supposed to be their thing so that's what we got. It was an enormous piece, unfortunately it was 50% fat and grizzle. Completely unappetizing. Seemed like they were put out when I asked for horse radish as a condiment. The Yukon mash didn't resemble Yukon gold potatoes in any way. Just plain white potatoes that were sort of stiff and flavorless. Not fluffy and buttery or with a golden hue as yukons are known for. The sautéed vegetables were the best thing on the plate. I also found it odd that the salad dressing comes in a to-go cup on the side? This sort of fast-casual element detracts from the dining experience. Find a proper vessel for your diners and commit to the experience. Only bright spot for me was the fresh Nova Scotia oysters served raw on the half shell at $3 each. Service was ok but seemed to fizzle out at the end. Took forever to get a check. Probably won't return.

We stopped here for an earlier dinner since we had a gift certificate. The restaurant is on the smaller side and very dated for the time period. Definitely can tell it's an established place that has not caved to the modern decor. The waitress was very friendly, the service in the kitchen was super slow. It took awhile to get the food which wouldn't be a huge ordeal but we had a seven year old with us. They do not have a kids meal but our child was ok with having steak. Luckily they allowed the blue cheese to be put to the side. Given we had a very generous gift card we could justify bringing him last minute. The prices are on the expensive side. The bread service came out with three toasted rolls with butter. They were good, but nothing to specifically look forward to. Our meals came with a side salad. The salad consisted of romaine, spinach, three slices of cucumber, two grape tomatoes and shredded carrots. Very basic which is expected. As another reviewer said the to go dressings seemed like an odd touch given price point of the venue. Child ordered the steak and it was super tender and delicious. It was about 8oz size. I ordered the chicken Francese with rice pilaf. The sauce was on the watery side, but good flavor. Chicken was cooked perfectly. Rice pilaf wasn't typical. It was more of a white rice.. not exactly what I think of pilaf. Husband ordered the lobster special. Hindsight we should have asked the price. It was 64 for a lobster tail. It was well cooked but the price was shocking. They did have crab legs but I overheard market price was 90.00/lb I believe so I guess a 69 lobster tail was a deal. Took about an hour and half from sitting down until we got the check. Overall it was an ok experience. We were thankful the taste of the food compensated for such a long time in the restaurant. Would we go again? Probably not. There are many restaurants that offer these types of meals for a better price point for our budget.

Bernard's Grove never disappoints! The service, food, and value are always superb. Brought my out of town family here for a Mother's Day dinner and everyone was very impressed. I will continue to come to Bernard's for special occasions and for anytime I want to go out to eat and get a guaranteed excellent meal. The staff are very accommodating to gluten free dietary restrictions and are very knowledgeable about their menu!

This is not my first time in this restaurant. I love how consistent they are ! You can order everything on the menu! Their food is just perfectly cooked, with wonderful flavors. The customer service is outstanding! And the environment is relaxing, i recommended this restaurant to everyone and my suggestion is to always try a new dush!

All I will say, is that it was worth it. The place and the menu are pretty cool/chill. Plenty of seating with firepit style table tops, extremely dog friendly, self serve water, and food/drink selections were great too. The waitress was very sweet, but was obviously overworked and busy too. She apologized and gave us free drink tokens and comped us a side order of garlic fries after they ran out of side salads. None of that was her fault, but it shows how the employees and establishment care about their valued costumers. We had the veggie focaccia, garlic fries, and buffalo parm wings (they were huge). No complaints on the quality of food or the portion size since we had more than enough to take stuff home. We will definitely come back. I live only a few minutes away by foot! Anyway.... you know I overshare. Furthermore, I've tried a few of the restaurants up here but I had a GREAT experience at the Great American Diner and was inspired to leave a review!! My lovely boyfriend suggested we try this place out. He said it used to be Wimpy's and it was new to him as well. Turns out that was a great decision. Walking in, all of the staff had a great attitude- everyone was in a good mood. We were seated quickly in one of the cozy booths, despite it being pretty busy. This place reminds me of the diners I used to enjoy back home. Assorted jams on the table and condiments for our use, very convenient! For seating, there is also a bar and regular tables. There are TVs that were playing game shows. The menu is quite expansive, you can get all sorts of breakfast items (omlettes, pancakes, waffles, french toast, wraps/sandwiches, platters) as well as plenty of lunch options (sandwiches, burgers, wraps, plates like roast turkey, country fried steak, garbage plates). There are even gluten-free and vegan options. I saw gluten free bread and vegan / gluten free pancakes. I decided on something simple.. a chicken salad sandwich on a hard roll with lettuce and onion. I got tater tots and mac salad with it. The bread was soft, topped with a hearty portion of the chicken salad. My tots were so crispy and delicious, and the mac salad was delightful!! Not many places get the mac salad right but I really enjoyed it! My boo got a breakfast garbage plates.. mind blown lolz!! It had home fried, sausage links, over easy eggs, cheese, and of course topped with meat sauce. You can decide if you want sausage or bacon, how you want your eggs cooked, and what kind of toast you want (bagel, biscuit, english muffin, wheat or white toast). He pretty much cleared his plate. He really liked it. I definitely want to come back here and try their other items, maybe some of their breakfast options this time. Oh, and their milkshakes... gahhh I really wanted one but I had to go into work and was worried I would have a tummy ache lol. It would have to be a day I'm willing to risk it (yes I'm lactose intolerant but sometimes it's worth it). Anyway... we will be back !!

Now the reason I am giving it a 5 is because when I walked in, I saw a young lady (forgot her name but she had on 9060 Black & Grey New Balances) she was working her a** off. Clearing off tables, getting people seated, getting people rung up, and she reminded me of myself when I used to work in the food industry doing the same thing. I have a true appreciation for people who work hard and do a great job even though the pay in these positions aren't that well. But however, her hard work ethic is what stood out most to me and I appreciate her working hard .

It's a little Neighborhood Place you can come alone and feel welcome and safe. It's a place where if you come to eat good bar food, you're in the right place. It's a place that if you come to meet new people and enjoy st that kind of a bar. It also has a patio, and if you are or know native Rochesterians, we LOVE dining al fresco, since we only get like 10 days of sun a year (okay, actually it's 165 , but we're not exactly overrun with sun). The first time here, I install myself on a bar stool and immediately greeted by and waited on by Todd (one of the owners). I asked for an Ice Pic, which no bartender in Rochester has ever even heard of. So I figured it must be a Pittsburgh thing. He made it, and immediately offered to make me something else if I didn't like it. It was a little heavy on the lemon (pucker worthy). He happily subbed a White Claw. They have black cherry and mango. I had one of each, and preferred the mango. It's served in a can, so I asked for a glass of ice. Very refreshing. Anyone that knows me, knows I'm a wing girl through and through. I ordered wings, half medium buff and half garlic parm. Both were very good and mostly drums. Todd was attentive, fun and friendly. Very chill dude. The customers, obviously locals, were very friendly. The second time I was here, Ashley, the bartender, suggested a Deep Eddy. Refreshingly alcoholic. I had fried mushrooms. They come in a little metal bucket; at least 10 to 12 tender, plump, perfectly fried mushrooms. There was a tiny bit of water inside, which is to be expected and it didn't at all ruin the mushrooms. They're served with blue cheese. Honestly, they were so good, they didn't need dressing. I have two suggestions. One, they provide some sort of shade for the patio. The tables and chairs, which are metal, are in the sun (a couple tables have umbrellas). I think a big canopy over the patio would do the trick. Second, use a bit more light. It's a but dark. I fiddled with all the settings on my camera, and still could not get decent interior shots. I think it's much better with the blinds open, but at night...hmmm. To be fair, I've never been here past 7 p.m. I know...atmosphere. And I'm a total cornball when it comes to (love and) romance. But this isn't designed for that. It's a neighborhood bar with good food, friendly folk and a chill, fun vibe. And you can't improve that.

When I heard Forest Hill had changed ownership and was now simply called The Hill, I'll admit I was worried. So many great restaurants lose what made them special after a change like that. I'm happy to say those worries were completely unfounded. The Hill is still everything I've loved for decades. In fact, I can confidently say they still have the best Chicken French in Rochester. This week I've made it my mission to revisit some of Rochester's well-known Chicken French spots while I'm in town. I've eaten at Brook House, Mr. Dominic's, and Pino's Deli, and while they were all good, nothing came close to The Hill. The Chicken French here is simply outstanding--perfectly cooked, consistently delicious, and exactly the flavor I've been coming back for all these years. One thing I've learned after 25 years of traveling for business and eating in restaurants all over the country is to appreciate the art of timing a meal. It's much harder than most people realize. Getting appetizers, entrées, and drinks to the table at just the right pace without making guests feel rushed or forgotten is the mark of a truly professional restaurant. The Hill has this mastered. Every course arrived at exactly the right time, the pacing was flawless, and the service was warm, attentive, and genuinely top-notch. It's wonderful to see the new owners preserving what has made this restaurant a Rochester favorite for generations. Thank you for keeping this tradition alive. I'll continue making The Hill a must-visit every time I'm back home.
