The Food was amazing and the service spectacular!! From hostess to busboy, the staff was amazing!

Friday nights dinner was at Bernard's Grove in Greece kind of by Braddocks Bay. I made reservations even though we didn't need them. So there was ample parking which was good and we arrived early at 5:30ish and our reservations were for 6 pm. We walked in the door and spoke with the hostess who was very friendly and nice and we had a nice table with a view of the lake. I have to say that all of the waitresses and waiters help each other out there. The 1st waitress came to the table with our bread and butter which was soft. And then our waitress came to the table and introduced herself. Which was quite nice and she was pleasant. So we ordered our ice waters with lemon and I also had a glass of wine Riesling. She gave us our drinks and then she took our food orders we both got the green salad and she then took our food orders. I ordered the Edamame & Goat cheese ravioli which is excellent as I've ordered that on a previous visit. And then my significant other got the lamb chops. He said they were excellent and he ate them all. The lamb chops also came with whipped sweet potatoes & grilled asparagus with balsamic vinegar on it. I had to try the veggies and they were excellent, chefs kiss from the Chef on that one. And then we got the Chocolate mousse with grand marnier and that was a perfect end to a great dinner. read more

I had high hopes for Bernards, but my experience fell well short of that of other Yelpers that rave about it. I do like the location and charming character both inside and outside. Unfortunately the rest didn't live up to a fine dining experience. Prime rib is supposed to be their thing so that's what we got. It was an enormous piece, unfortunately it was 50% fat and grizzle. Completely unappetizing. Seemed like they were put out when I asked for horse radish as a condiment. The Yukon mash didn't resemble Yukon gold potatoes in any way. Just plain white potatoes that were sort of stiff and flavorless. Not fluffy and buttery or with a golden hue as yukons are known for. The sautéed vegetables were the best thing on the plate. I also found it odd that the salad dressing comes in a to-go cup on the side? This sort of fast-casual element detracts from the dining experience. Find a proper vessel for your diners and commit to the experience. Only bright spot for me was the fresh Nova Scotia oysters served raw on the half shell at $3 each. Service was ok but seemed to fizzle out at the end. Took forever to get a check. Probably won't return. read more

We stopped here for an earlier dinner since we had a gift certificate. The restaurant is on the smaller side and very dated for the time period. Definitely can tell it's an established place that has not caved to the modern decor. The waitress was very friendly, the service in the kitchen was super slow. It took awhile to get the food which wouldn't be a huge ordeal but we had a seven year old with us. They do not have a kids meal but our child was ok with having steak. Luckily they allowed the blue cheese to be put to the side. Given we had a very generous gift card we could justify bringing him last minute. The prices are on the expensive side. The bread service came out with three toasted rolls with butter. They were good, but nothing to specifically look forward to. Our meals came with a side salad. The salad consisted of romaine, spinach, three slices of cucumber, two grape tomatoes and shredded carrots. Very basic which is expected. As another reviewer said the to go dressings seemed like an odd touch given price point of the venue. Child ordered the steak and it was super tender and delicious. It was about 8oz size. I ordered the chicken Francese with rice pilaf. The sauce was on the watery side, but good flavor. Chicken was cooked perfectly. Rice pilaf wasn't typical. It was more of a white rice.. not exactly what I think of pilaf. Husband ordered the lobster special. Hindsight we should have asked the price. It was 64 for a lobster tail. It was well cooked but the price was shocking. They did have crab legs but I overheard market price was 90.00/lb I believe so I guess a 69 lobster tail was a deal. Took about an hour and half from sitting down until we got the check. Overall it was an ok experience. We were thankful the taste of the food compensated for such a long time in the restaurant. Would we go again? Probably not. There are many restaurants that offer these types of meals for a better price point for our budget. read more

Chefs Kiss, all the way around! The bartender Courtney, TY for my fabulously Dirty martini and my loves, Buffalo trace and Pepsi, they were great, including the conversation! Our waitress Anna was a joy and very courteous. Our meal didn't disappoint. We ordered beautifully cooked to perfection steaks and Chefs Kiss to the Staff in the Kitchen. The husband and I were able to sneak in at 6:30 on a Friday due to a cancellation. The place was hopping and my only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the noise level which is quite high. The hostess was most gracious and our waitress, Meghan, was lovely, knowledgeable about the menu , and brought our courses in a timely manner with no mistakes and no rushing. All the dishes we ordered were wonderful. Of special note were the onion soup ( one of the best in the area) and the 16 oz. charbroiled Porterhouse porkchop ordered Cajun style. The chef was not afraid to use the spices and the husband was so happy. I had the shrimp a la Greque and hoped to find a big chunk of feta in each one but they were cooked a bit differently this time. The rolls and Key lime pie were fantastic. Bernard's Grove never disappoints! The service, food, and value are always superb. Brought my out of town family here for a Mother's Day dinner and everyone was very impressed. I will continue to come to Bernard's for special occasions and for anytime I want to go out to eat and get a guaranteed excellent meal. Friday night at 7PM, & the place was 1/4 full...dead. We should have taken that as a sign. Appetizer of crab cakes & bisque. The bisque was good, but very salty. Crab cakes were brown on the inside...like the color of canned tuna. They were tasteless, garnished with wilted greens. Entree was lobster tail with purple sweet potato mash & the orange glazed grilled salmon on a bed of "forbidden" black rice. Lobster was fine, but small. The salmon was ok, but, again, very salty. The soy-sauce based orange glazed didn't help. However, that was nothing compared to black rice. It was veritable salt lick (or the chef dropped the salt shaker into the rice pot). Better portion size of a FRESH salad, not wilted lettuce & mushy tomatoes. FRESH, warm dinner rolls, not day old stale rolls. More than one choice of potato besides mashed. Who serves red meat & no baked potato?!?! Whipped mashed potatoes made with butter & cream, not dry, stiff & lumpy. This is not my first time in this restaurant. I love how consistent they are ! You can order everything on the menu! Their food is just perfectly cooked, with wonderful flavors. We stumbled upon this hidden gem on a work trip while taking a minor detour to see Lake Ontario. For this wondering, it looks a whole lot like a lake, so not the breathtaking experience we were hoping for. Fortunately Bernard's Grove was nearby to salvage the experience! The servers were nice and attentive, although I considered docking a star as we were not asked if we wanted a final round of drinks or refills as we sat with empty glasses while finishing our meals. My wife and I used to frequent this restaurant for the past 19 years. This year we went on our anniversary and we will not be going back. My wife had the crab legs and they came out room temp, not cooked enough. I had beef wellington with peppercorn sauce and the sauce was inedible-incredibly salty and I had at least 6 full peppercorns in the couple of bites that I tried. 6:30 on a Saturday and the restaurant was maybe 1/4 full, we should have walked out at that point. read more

My wife and I used to LOVE this place. The owner was AWESOME. Every special occasion or friend from out of town we'd bring them there. Those days are sadly over. We heard that it was sold and the chef moved to another restaurant. That being said, it was obvious. The musty smell. My shoes felt like sticking to the floor. My greco app was so overdone there was no cheese left in it. Salad was not fresh and with an onion intolerance she still served me with salad dressing were the main ingredient was ONION... she should have caught that but when I asked what cider they had she started with "we have October Fest..." smh, wow. Then my entree comes out and I was not happy. How do you UNDERCOOK a 1/2" steak?! Almost raw! Then I find out it was $48?! There is more but I'm sure you get the point. I suggest they post the prices for their specials or inform the waitress to tell diners. I was completely blindsided at the $46 price for a small piece of Cajun red snapper, oven roasted sweet potatoes and snap peas. Not even close to a gourmet meal. $28 for a Caesar salad with shrimp! Won't be going back...if I am going to pay those prices, I want a great meal worthy of the price! read more

The quality of the food and the service has gone down since the new owners took over . Gimmicks such as dollar Oysters, sad what it became. The bar ambience is totally gone. For the money you're spending, give this place a hard pass . Some of the desert menu comes from a grocery store ~ it's just thawed , a coulis is added and you're being charged 4x what they paid. I know ~ I have rang up the transaction. This was my family's place ~ NOT anymore~ I even had my husband's funeral luncheon here when Shannon and Tom owned it. Do NOT waste your money or your time here ! And the kitchen is filthy, as they're constantly pulling staff from their other restaurant - DaVincis - illegals who can barely speak English... if you can't understand what you're being told - how can you do what needs to be done for the best possible customer service? Small restaurant located in North Greece! Although it's close to the water, there is not a view. It was dark inside the restaurant and very busy. The owner was sitting people, and struck up a conversation with almost everyone who came through the door. There were a lot of specials and a small menu to choose from. I ordered the chicken French. The rice and sauce were amazing, but the chicken had a lot of tough hard spots that made it hard to enjoy. I probably wouldn't come back, just because I'm not a fish person, and that was most of the menu. My husband really enjoyed his fish, and sides! I went to Bernard's Grove with my family for my birthday dinner and we are all SO happy we did! The atmosphere is authentic, homey and super comfortable. Great songs and fun holiday decor! The owners and staff are exceptional and really elevate the experience, too. ( Thanks Shannon and Mary! ) Now the food... oh my gosh the food! The Caesar Salad dressing was so good. I could literally eat it every day and am convinced it must be home made. My Dad got the bisque and it was worth every calorie. My Dad and Fiancé both got the Matri'd prime rib for their main c and it was gargantuan! It came with whipped Yukon potatoes and veggies and they were devoured. A nice dollop of butter on top that melted into the meat was a great touch, too. My Mother and I got the strip steak with pommes frittas and the flavor was killer. You can opt in for a Cajun rub but I got mine plain and was thrilled with my choice. We found out they butcher their own meat which is why the quality is so great. Rarely do we go out for steaks and have every temperature for the meat be correct, but the chefs nailed it. We were impressed. We got a bottle of Educated Guess wine which may just be a new favorite of ours as well. For any Cab Sav lovers, I suggest you give it a whirl - super smooth. I never have a hard time getting a Table here because I always make a reservation knowing that they are very busy place. I even make reservations on Tuesday night's. I've been here recently twice in addition to the other many times . GET: The bisque. Wowie zowie. It's got crazy chunks of seafood in it and it doesn't taste fishy! Probably the best I've ever had. The one chicken dish on the menu. I believe it's chicken French, which I never order and probably wouldn't have ordered it if I had known what it was. It is The best thing on the menu in my opinion. I am disappointed that it is the only chicken dish on the menu. ....... I liked the filet I got, But I didn't like the sides that came with it and they're very particular about substitutions.... they basically won't do them. I wanted the rissotto that came with the fish dish instead of domething i dont like but because the chef only prepares certain sides for certain dishes I wasn't allowed to have it. One day I also wanted a side of pesto sauce which they were serving with another entree but they wouldn't let me have it because it didn't go with the dish I ordered. I was in the restaurant industry for a long time And I don't remember ever telling a guest no unless we didn't have it in house. Wouldn't be the way I would run my restaurant but the food is still good... I won't go out of my way to come back but I will happily join others that are already going read more

We were seated promptly and were served two rolls in a napkin covered basket with butter that was still pretty stiff. Ordered the Shrimp Greco (Alexander) asking if we wanted to add another shrimp to make it four as we were splitting. It was delicious but shrimp were probably 16/20 size with really no feta to mention and cost us $26. The salads were a spring mix with one grape tomato and 3 paper thin sliced cucumber. A house special lemon Basil, sweet & sour, balsamic vinagatette, creamy blue and crumbly blue. No Italian, or ranch. Husband ordered maitred prime rib and I ordered a filet (no mention of size) with bacon and blue cheese topping, with a red wine reduction. Ordered both meats medium rare and they were not. The bacon on my filet were like pieces of fleur de sal and the blue cheese was very salty. The reduction was very good. Although tasty little flaws stood out like a sore thumb. Cooked vegetables and mashed potatoes accompanied both dinners. Ordered a chocolate mousse for dessert with coffees. Mousses texture was off a bit but tasty. Entrees we're 38 and 40 dollars each. Service was impeccable. I would go back but I consider this a special occasion place due to the price alone. read more

I'm just upset I didn't find out about this place sooner in my life!!!! The atmosphere is not exactly modern, but cozy and cute. We sat inside but they also had a beautiful patio. I sat facing the door, and saw a lady who I assumed to be the owner at the host stand. She greeted everyone that walked in either by name or with a hug. There were awards and achievements hung all over the walls. I knew the food was about to be special just from seeing that! My meal came with a salad- I tried the house dressing and it was to die for. Then I tried the goat cheese raviolis- most of the menu is meat and fish, which I don't eat, so I asked them to make me an entree size of this appetizer which they were able to do. This dish was so unique and packed with so much flavor. I had to force myself to stop eating so I could take some home for my dad to try (he was obsessed too, we'll be back in a couple days to celebrate Father's Day). Then we tried the mousse for dessert- no shocker, amazing as well! The (who I assume to be) owner stopped by and struck up conversation with us during desert and dinner. She was very kind and told us about how everything is home made, even the little things that most places will cut corners on such as pasta and ice cream. A sweet and quiet little hidden gem! Went there with my boyfriend precovid and it was such a delight. The atmosphere is something from the days of the past. I felt like I was drifted back to my youth when I go to dinner with parents back in the 1970's and we would get a steak dinner at a fancy restaurant. I love the dim lighting and the ambiance is just right for a date night. The prices are what you would expect for a higher end menu. I got a steak and it was cooked to perfection. I've been back with my friends for birthday dinners and drinks with the gals. I really enjoy the outdoor seating on warm nights. I definitely recommend. read more
