A sweet and quiet little hidden gem! Went there with my boyfriend precovid and it was such a delight. The atmosphere is something from the days of the past. I felt like I was drifted back to my youth when I go to dinner with parents back in the 1970's and we would get a steak dinner at a fancy restaurant. I love the dim lighting and the ambiance is just right for a date night. The prices are what you would expect for a higher end menu. I got a steak and it was cooked to perfection. Went at night so was bummed I couldn't get a glimpse of the views. But the service was incredible. Quick and bright attitudes. Attentive as well. The crab legs were ridiculously good. My favorite thing to do is find new places and this was in my bookmarks. We decided to come here and give it a try after seeing all the wonderful reviews we were pretty excited. I ordered the orange soy Atlantic salmon. Which was cook perfectly but was ruined by the soy sauce. That's all I could taste. Way too much salt. I managed to scrape most of it off and it was edible then. Next time I will order it without the sauce and it would be perfect. Perfect amount of food with a side salad and fresh rolls. My wife got the chicken French. The butter (wine) sauce was amazing! One of the best sauces she has ever had. It came with rice instead of pasta which was different but was a very nice touch.. one complaint was the chicken was too hard and just blah. The decor was interesting. Wood paneling everywhere we are still wondering if this was a house at one point and what the layout of said house would was. We give it a try again and know what to order next time. I hesitate to write this review because I want to keep this place for myself........but if everyone did that....I wouldn't have found Bernard's Grove. Love, love, love this place.......I had the sushi grade tuna with rice and veggies. It was so delicious...melt in your mouth....the rest of our party had the prime rib, and New York Strip. They said their food was perfect. The artichoke french appetizer was wonderful for a party of four. This is a small Intimate dining experience. I can't wait to be regulars here! BUT, this was the second time in 8 months that we were disappointed. My shrimp cocktail had absolutely no flavor. My pork chop and hubby's lamb was very good. My friends French onion soup tasted like water with salt, my other friends shrimp and pasta dish had no flavor. Again, his shrimp had no flavor. My husband and I went to dinner on a beautiful Saturday night. We were seated efficiently and we reserved warm rolls almost immediately. The menu is quite eclectic, but my husband was there for the prime rib and I was there for any seafood they had as a special. I chose the sesame crusted ahi tuna served with a spring roll containing vegetables and shrimp. Tom's prime rib was served in a caste iron skillet with a dollop of maitre d butter, fresh vegetables and a side of mashed potatoes. Both meals were so beautifully plated and equally delicious. I ordEred the tuna medium rare and it was just over, but Tom's prime rib was done exactly to his liking. Our server,Courtney, was attentive and our hostess, MJ, ( also the new owner ) was delightful. This evening my 92 yr old mother and I wandered into this restaurant. We were pleasantly greeted by the owner and immediately seated at a table that was well spaced. The waiter and bus server were delightful. My mother ordered shrimp and crab bisque and crab cakes. I ordered seafood boulibaise. Both meals were savory and freshly prepared. I had never heard of this place and it is certainly off the beaten path. We arrived for our reservation and greeted by a very friendly woman, I assume she is the owner, and sat in a nice booth right away. Our server came right over and he was very attentive. He recited the specials and it was a pretty extensive list. My mouth was watering and if I hadn't already decided I was getting the Lamb I definitely would have gone for a special. The chef is clearly talented and knows what he is doing. I went for the Oyster appetizer special -- they were plump and the cocktail sauce was perfect. For dinner I ordered the Rack of Lamb and my girlfriend opted for the Pork Chop. Entrees came with a salad which was nice, my girl had the Caesar and I got the house with balsamic vinaigrette and crumbly blue. Salads were fresh and dressings delicious. The Australian Rack of Lamb was perfectly cooked at medium rare, bursting with flavor and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My girlfriend loved her Pork Chop although she mentioned that it was heavily encrusted with pepper which she wasn't expecting. She raved about the chopped apples that were served on top of the pork and went on and on at how juicy and flavorful the chop was. The decor and interior had a comfortable, rugged type feel and almost made you feel like you were dining in a toasty log cabin at the base of a ski resort. I'm not sure if that makes sense and I may have felt that way because it was 2 degrees with a below-zero wind chill and even the short walk from the car was brutal so it felt amazing walking through the door. The tables were dressed in linen and the dining room had been nicely decorated for Valentine's Day. Service was great, food was delicious, and the ambiance was perfect. If you live in the Rochester area I highly recommend checking this hidden gem out for yourself. I don't think many know this place exists and I am not really sure why. We will definitely be back. Oh my goodness. You MUST try this place. DELICIOUS. Menu isn't large, but has some of everything. Wine list is pretty extensive. My wife ordered the prime rib, I had the filet. Both were expertly cooked to our specifications. We also ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer, STUFFED with crab. Creme Brûlée for dessert. Entree portions were generous. The menu is full of high end items, that being said, the prices they are asking are very reasonable. One of the negatives is this is a small place, seating for only 100 max. It is not pretentious, and a bit dated, but so worth it. Our waitress was one of the best. Food was served timely, but this is a place to savor. We will be back!!!! read more

We had an amazing meal here. It started with drinks. I asked the bartender to make me something with the pink lemonade vodka I saw and it was delicious. She used mint, lemon and seltzer and it tasted great. We then sat down for dinner. The place is slightly dated but the food definitely makes up for the decor. We had an oyster appetizer and they were great. My husband and I both ordered specials. I got the tomahawk ribeye that was served with rosemary whipped potatoes and roasted brussel sprouts. Well, I must say that this place was a real surprise, only heard of it by mouth. I certainly was more than pleased with the service, quality of the food and how well kept this restaurant is. This really is a great place to take a date for the first time. There menu is just great, not so extensive to read like a book. I would recommend the French Onion Jack to always start out with. The special of the day was Pork Shank and it was a great choice. I am looking forward to my next visit and try the fish fry and see how it compares to other places. We had dinner here on Friday - shrimp and feta wrapped in bacon was tasty. Rolls served ahead were warm, fresh and light. My husband had the house salad with balsamic dressing which looked good and he enjoyed the prime rib. I had a caesar salad with grilled chicken as my entree. Fresh romaine, creamy, flavorful caesar dressing, nicely grilled chicken and light croutons. I also tried the creamy lemon basil dressing on the side which was delicious. Nice selection of wines by the glass available. It's a bustling place and had a high noise level for us. We couldn't hear each other at all. Service was mostly attentive and pricing fair for today's costs. Would return when in the area again. read more

Very much enjoyed our experience here. I have to admit it does seem almost as if this restaurant has a bit of an identity crisis but all in all very solid cuisine and service. Located wayyyy off the beaten track, one would almost automatically think they must have gotten the address wrong! And on walking in, the bar side has a very "townie" feel to it (not that there is anything wrong with that!). The interior is a bit dated with dark paneling etc paired with casually attired waitstaff...wearing shorts, it's just a bit weird considering their menu which is pretty upscale...is it fine dining or casual?! I am not too sure myself! I will say we had some of the more gracious service we have experienced in Rochester, and elsewhere, from our server who was excellent. He did not miss a beat. We had delicious blue point oysters which are not easy to come by in these parts. On hearing their specials for the evening it seems they do "the classics" but with a modern twist. We stayed very traditional and went with prime rib, and some seafood entrees---all very well executed for a non coastal city. I will say it is a bit spendy here, particularly for the seafood selections. I would say worth it though. read more

Hidden gem in Northwest Rochester definitely worth the trip and multiple return trips.

To start off, we only ate lunch here on a day after a holiday, and the lunch menu seems to be more 'bar-food' oriented than the dinner menu. Also, the front of this place is a bar, and I would characterize this as a 'local joint', which probably gets VERY busy on the high-patronage times. We both had the shrimp/crab bisque, which was about as good a seafood bisque as you are likely to find in an inland city. Of course, the shrimp and crab were frozen, which is to be expected, but the soup was very, very good. Next, we had sandwiches.... Not really wanting an entire 1/2 lb of burger, I ordered the Reuben, and my partner ordered a burger. Both came out in 10 minutes, served with a rather forgettable pasta salad with...bits of beef included. My partner's burger was good, but my Reuben was essentially 100% inedible gristle, which I had to send back. The waitress was nice about it, but I had to wait 10 minutes while they made me a burger, anyways. When the burger came out, it was decent, albeit very juicy and greasy mess. It also came with the same odd beef-pasta salad. Although it's obvious that (at least for lunch), everything on the menu is plain-old food-service frozen portions (with the possible exception of the bisque), they do a good job with what they have. It seems that they have updated the decor just a bit recently, and service was quite attentive, even for a weekday lunch. If it weren't for the inedible gristle they tried to serve me, I probably would've given them a 4-star review. However, any restaurant that tries to serve food to customers that otherwise deserves to be thrown in the garbage needs to be called out. The corned beef gristle they tried to serve me was only useful for maybe a beef stock, and it would be obvious to anybody cutting the meat that this was, in fact, inedible. If I lived nearby, I might give them another chance, hoping that maybe the cook was tired or hungover. But I doubt that I'll ever make the long trek to eat here again. I probably would've done better going to Silk O'Laughlins, and had better scenery as well. read more

I grew up living in Hilton and everyone always talked about Bearnard's Grove. I finally went there after I moved out of Hilton. I love crab bisque, and Bearnard's has the best crab bisque that I have had in Rochester. I honestly would recommend going and just eating a salad and a bowl of the crab bisque and calling it a day. That's all you need when you go there. It is the perfect consistency with the right amount of crab and it comes up at the perfect temperature so you can start eating it right away. Man o Man, Bearnard's, you get me every time with that bisque! I did have the salmon dinner when I was there, it was delicious, but the crab bisque is what keeps me going back for more. The fish fry also looked amazing, I didn't try any but it was golden and had rave reviews from my father. The only thing is, I was a little shocked by the pricing of food. I think what you get, it is worth it, but for some reason I was under the impression it would be a bit more reasonable. None the less, go get the crab bisque now! read more

Excellent food - really first rate, Bouillabaisse is best I have had outside of France. All other food is outstanding, beautifully presented , and quite reasonably priced. Just a few minutes outside of Rochester proper and worth the drive. Downsides- not as fancy surroundings not terribly fancy and bar fairly basic - adequate but nothing fancy. Tom, just called the restaurant to find out your name so I could let you know how wonderful our dinner was last week. However, whichever staff member answered the phone did not know your name and would not tell me theirs? I had to search the Internet for it. I was accused of being someone else and they wanted my personal information? I am not sure why the individual on the phone was so rude and proceeded to question me. I find it unprofessional that your staff is not aware of upper managements names when asked. However... On another note, dinner was phenomenal! It was a great atmosphere and the service was on par. My husband and I have no complaints whatsoever and completely enjoyed our meal! It is unfortunate that when I called to try and do something kind I was treated as if I was doing something wrong. Very confusing. The woman on the other end of the line said my voice sounded familiar and that I could just leave the online review without your name because it was unnecessary information for me to have. As wonderful as the service and dinner were, this has put a bad taste into my mouth and I am not sure if we will return due to the very uncomfortable phone call. read more

From the outside the flowers are beautiful but the building is not inviting. Inside you will find dated tables and chairs as well as worn carpet. Wow, why go to such a place? When I go out to eat I go for GREAT food and that is what you get here! The onion soup is different than any I have had and possibly the best! It is served in a large bowl with lots of cheese and is big enough to share like my wife and I did. We followed that with a steak salad which was so, so tasty! The variety of greens were fresh and the steak tips were perfectly grilled, tender and seasoned to perfection! My only concern, the rolls were too hard.
