Haven't been here in a while, but the burgers are still good! They make them to order - well done, extra pickles, etc.. whatever you ask for. Note that they no longer sell meatball subs. Not sure why as they were good! Their prices are also getting high. 2 burgers, 1 order of fries and 2 small (and they are small) drinks ran us close to $23.00. We had gotten food from here many times. We have been very pleased with the quality, service, and value for your money. Normally we buy cheese burgers on hard rolls. Last week I went and picked up a cheeseburger for my wife to decided to get the Beef on Weck, Unfortunately when I got home and unpacked my sandwich, I found the roll was not a Kemmelwick roll. No salt or caraway seeds on the roll at all like what was advertised. I totally understand that they might have run out of rolls, but they should have told me and given me the option of changing my order. Least to say I was very disappointed. read more

Great burgers! Fresh made and one of the best burgers I've had in awhile. Onion rings are battered not breaded and fries are typical crinkle cut. They have roast beef, burgers, hits, plates, chicken, chicken wings and really good Mac salad. Hot sauce very good with a little kick at the end. Counter service is fast and friendly and one of the cleanest restaurants I've been to. Recently had a price increase first in two years and frankly I'd pay more the foods that good! read more

The worst customer service. The food wasn't too bad but it's not worth it. The girls taking the orders are terrible. They talk that way to 80 year olds. They said they don't need our business. I don't even want to go into details let's just say I was crying. I did order food after speaking with the manager. I will never go there again and suggest you don't either. There are plenty of other places to go to and not be treated so disrespectfuly and laughed at. If I could give a zero I would. read more

Went again for lunch here. Staff are amazing. Service was excellent. This time their pop machine was working which I was happy with. Food was excellent, nice cheeseburger on par with others in the area. Huge menu and reasonably priced. It wasn't very crowded but we had an early lunch and missed the lunch rush. read more

Grabbed burgers from Jim's last night and as always the experience was flawless from the time I walked in to the time I walked out

Fish fry and garbage plate was just ok, ambiance wise it's a local hangout with outside seating facing the road.

We are Bill Grays and Schallers worshippers. Jim's was only ok. Only 1 piece of cheese on the burger and the burger seriously Lacked seasoning. Needed a lot of salt & pepper. We love dipping our fries in gravy & their gravy tasted like canned Heinz gravy. Wasn't rich, again needed seasoning. read more

I have lived in Rochester for over 15 years, and I never really enjoyed going to the burger/hotdog/plate restaurants that are everywhere in Monroe County, until I tried Jim's Ground a few weeks ago. The restaurant has counter service that is fast and efficient. The burgers are the best I have had in Monroe county and I have tried them all!! You can tell that the neighborhood that Jim's Ground is in loves this place and it shows as soon as you walk through the door. If you are looking for a big juicy burger at a fair price you need to check out Jim's Ground in Gates. Everything my husband and I ordered was fresh and delicious. I will definitely go back as often as my waistline allows. read more

I feel like Jim's is extremely underrated. Their plate is so flavorful. I got the all American plate, with all the toppings. I asked for extra Mac salad instead of the beans, and they happily did that for me. Customer service was on point. Food was beyond good. I wish they seasoned their home fries. I was a little disappointed they didn't have tater tots! I asked for everything on the plate, and I was pleasantly surprised they add shredded pickles to it! I now live out of state, but will make sure to come HERE for a plate. I also really enjoyed their Mac salad wasn't dry. read more

Thier burgers are so good.. every time I scarf em down before I get a chance to take pictures. Their meat hot sauce is not the best...but somehow it compliments the burger perfectly. A little pricier than the buy one, get one joints, but i don't mind paying extra when the burgers are this good. Man! My mouths watering just thinking about a Jim's burger. I have also had thier beef on weck. Very good. Real sliced beef, dipped in au jus, on a salted kummelweck roll. Mmm mmm. I like to order the deep fried mushrooms instead of fries occasionally. They are a super value..most places charge double for the amount of deep fried mushrooms you get here. read more

The service is horrifying This is our third & last visit. first visit We got there at 7:15. We were told that we needed to be out of there by 8 o'clock. by a rude server OK I understand you close at 8 o'clock but you drop my food and tell me we must be out by eight today. We go in at 7:30 Tonight Another rude employee says you cannot eat here only to go's doesn't not say that you are open from 11 until 830 Monday through Saturday one time I asked to speak to an owner and he sent his minion out to see what the problem is. No, I don't wanna talk to the girl that was rude to me. I wanna talk to the owner and let him know how his customers are being treated. Get your shit together, Jim there is a lot of other burger, places other than yours you're not all that and a bag of chips your foods good but your service you really should take a look at and stop letting children run your restaurant ! read more

Jim's equipment is so impressive, that it drags along the ground when he walks. And his supporting "spherical" supplementary equipment either side of his main equipment, are so perfectly globe-shaped, that in the dictionary, if you look up the word "round", there is no text. Just a picture of Jim's goulies. Hence the name of the restaurant: Jim's Ground Round. What to get: Ground Round with extra meat sauce. What else: Jim's very grounded, and if you eat too much of his food, you'll become rounded. Jim's was the last food stop on a 25-stop food tour (not even kidding), which meant I really wasn't feeling like eating by the time I got here. I drove past it (accidentally) out in the leafy suburbs of Gates-Spencerport, and had to do a U-turn, which freaked out some suburban boys walking along the sidewalk-less highway-cum-road. Ahem. So it was all set up for me to not like it and not even finish it, but Jim's surprised me, in fact, it blew me away. The service was nice (cute girls!), and I got flirted with big-time by a couple of customers who must have been in their 40s, but were dolled up like they were going to a Duran Duran concert (it's an in joke, but read "Motley Crue" if you prefer). I got a ground round with everything and extra meat sauce. It took a good 10 minutes for it to arrive, but once it did, I was in hamburger heaven. A ground round is basically just a burger, and the meat sauce is what makes Rochester cuisine famous (lol). It's the same stuff they pour all over garbage plates (Los Platos De Garbaggio) and yes they make those here, too. As I bit into it (after taking pix) (after deflecting the stares of some local guy with his family who thought I was worth ogling), I realized I was in heaven. I can't yet tell if this burger is better than the one at Schaller's (it's a close contest, I think Schaller's might edge it because of the flavour of the meat sauce but I'm not sure), but it's definitely the only burger in Rochester (so far) that comes close. And probably the only fast-food burger in WNY that compares. It's also one of the juiciest burgers I've ever had... not just the extra meat sauce I asked for, but the amazing dripping gushing patty as well. Absolutely fantastic. And the hard roll it comes on (the same kind that all the best places in Rochester use) is wonderful. The meat sauce is good... the burger is huge, it's cheap, it's filling. I could not recommend it any more highly. There's a reason they call this the "best ground round in Rochester" - it really is. It's between Jim's and Schaller's and nobody else compares. I couldn't have been any more impressed than I was with Jim's, and along with the breakfast sandwich at Union St Bakery, it was the standout off-the-charts highlight of my little food tour. It's so good, in fact, that after you put this delicious juicy meat in your mouth, you'll probably let Jim have his way with you on the ground, rolling around, even a little "round" the world action. Which is yet another reason why they call this place, affectionately, "Jim's Ground Round." read more

I knew the as Jim $ Ralph. Now, the children are following on the footsteps. I've gone several times and everything have been good. Ribeye & steak sandwiches, shrimp plate on Fridays. The shrimp plate comes with two sides. I chose soup & salad. Delicious! The shrimps are a nice size, butterflied and deep fried. The meal comes with a dinner roll. I had on other occasions steak sandwich & fries. Ribeye sandwich, you get a thin cut steak. I ordered cooked onions and macaroni salad as a side dish. Bith good. Their steak bomber is delicious and way better than the ones I used to eat (a lifetime ago) at Campi's. The steak is lean. . .not dripping grease. The roll is first rate and made to hold steak. The toppings (mozzarella, onions and mushrooms) were on the mark. . .they didn't overwhelm the sandwich. The service was first rate. I ordered at the counter and they brought it to my table within 5 minutes. The interior is small, but well laid out. . .doesn't look cramped at all. I sat outside under the veranda. I would've never tried this place if it wasn't for my bf who talked highly of Jim and Ralph's burger joint. He said that the this place is the same owner of Jim and Ralph's and wanted to see if it'll be the same. Well we got our food to go. The cheese burger I had was super dry! I was so excited to try Jim's but it was seriously disappointing. The wing sauce for my chicken sandwich was completely tasteless as was the blue cheese dressing. My husband said his burger was dry. The crinkle cut fries at least saved the day. Probably won't go back. read more
