I agree with quite a few of the reviewers here. This place is overrated. I've been many times to meet friends but I think the food is bad. The burgers are terrible. There's only so much you can do to cover up the taste of a frozen patty. Same goes for the chicken fried steak. I asked the server if it was homemade and she said yes. I knew it wasn't as soon as I received it due to the preformed shape. The green chili gravy couldn't save the frozen steak taste. I can't believe a local place wouldn't attempt to make their own burgers and chicken fried steak. Get a fresh burger at Blue Sky or Five Guys. A good chicken fried steak at Triple Js (defunct Home Cafe also had a good one). I like the queso but the chips are usually very greasy. The soups are good also. I find the service is usually pretty good but the sub-par food keeps me away. read more

Food is good and reasonably priced. I had a burger with the sweet jalapeño bun. I wasn't thinking it would be sweet like a Hawaiian bun. Next time I'm gonna try the bacon w blue cheese on a reg bun. My husband got the buffalo burger. He liked it ok. He said it had a strong taste and you need to get accustomed to it. He loved the fried egg as a side. All in all we are happy with the meal. Service is good there also! read more

The loaded twisted taters are pretty tasty! I had the the Works Chicken sandwich. Grilled chicken, lettuce, tomato, bacon and green chilies - spicy great! Good delection and prices. read more

We have been here so so so many times and the last few times have been a complete mess!! cold food. Frozen burger Pattie's etc! We will not be back for a long while! read more

Haven't been here in a few years thought I'd give it another try. Came in on a Monday 3pm so it wasn't busy. Walked in the hostess was on her phone I had to acknowledge her if I could sit at the bar which she said "it's open seating." Sat at the bar ordered a Bloody Mary with salt and the bartender brought me an overfilled Bloody Mary which dripped off all the salt from the rim. Didn't offer to clean it up or give me a napkin. Ordered the chicken strips and mash potatoes with a side house salad. Mash potatoes were cold, came with 3 tenders and I didn't get my salad til after my meal. The bartender wore a baseball hat real low so it was hard to get her attention at times, the guy walking around with the cane I assume the manager was more attentive than she was. A waitress who i thought was on her lunch break because she was sitting down eating with friends was actually still on the clock as she would get up every now and then to attend tables still chewing her food. I'm not a hard guy to please as I go out to eat almost every day but here it seems like nobody gives a damn about anything it'll be another few years before I'll be back. read more

Honestly, this is the only really great NON CHAIN place in Lubbock. The food is really good, the beer is cold, and depending on the luck of the draw...you might end up with a very pretty waitress. The managers come by often and leaving this joint with a bad experience is uncommon. Food wise, you cant beat the burgers or the wraps. Down and Dirty wrap if you like it tad spicy is greatness. The one thing that they flop on is the fried pickles...I just don't understand why anyone would serve SPEARS instead of fried pickle slices. I hope they change that. My last waitress was Jamie and she was spot on, really good, and seemed to know what we needed BEFORE we needed it. I think she has Jedi training. Anyway, don't miss this place. Its got local character, which is impossible to find in Lubbock restaurants these days. read more

When my wife and I are brainstorming a place to go for our weekly date it usually ends up something like this: Me: "It's date night! Where do you want to grab dinner?" Her: "Hmmm...I don't know" Me: "Well what type of food sounds good?" Her: "I have no idea, you pick." Me: "I have no preference." Her: Me: Her: Me: "I don't know... Caprock? Her: YASSS We could probably eat here once a week pretty much forever. They're always welcoming, their burgers are always on point, and the beer is super cold. I always get the 1/2lb. Cheeseburger in Paradise stacked with an egg on top and a Coors, she always gets the Cholula Chicken Sandwich and a blended marg. We are always impressed. Sit outside if you can, it's quieter and the tree growing through the roof is super cool to look at. Also there are fewer TVs, which for an A.D.D.D.D. person like me on a date with his wife is a good thing. It's a Lubbock landmark and you should try it. read more

The atmosphere was perfect! I got the buffalo burger and waffle sweet potato fries...the manager came over and actually asked how are food was! This to me is 5***** service...this is my first time in Lubbock so I asked the locals for a hidden food gem...FOUND IT!!! read more

Caprock Cafe - Burgers Near Me - Lubbock, Texas

This is my favorite restaurant in Texas. The decor reminds of good ole prickly pear margaritas in college . The manager went out of his way on a busy college football weekend to accommodate my family and I. Their seasoning that they put on the tortilla chips is addicting. If you are traveling to Lubbock, do yourself a favor and go to the original caprock on 34th! read more

I had lunch here this past Sunday with a colleague. We both had burgers - I particularly liked the 1/4lbs and 1/2lbs options. The food was great! The service was prompt and attentive! It was a great dining experience! read more

Make sure your meat is thoroughly cooked. I have been up all night with a case of food poisoning I likely received from my ribeye steak dinner. read more

Listen to the waitstaff and their recommendations. Very, very good food, albeit a little expensive which is why I give it 4 stars. If you are a chicken fried steak fan and pass on this incredible twist topped with green chile sauce and melted cheese, you're in for a huge loss. The crust stays crunchy while the non-traditional sauce causes an explosion of flavors and textures in your mouth that are sure to bring you back for more! read more

Unfortunately, I have nothing good to say about this place. I know people rave about their frozen, premade chicken fried steak. Putting a spin on the gravy doesn't take away from the frozen hockey puck they put it on. The hamburgers have the same problem. The patties are not fresh. They also upcharge the dishes. If you want me to pay a premium, give me fresh, handmade food. I also use to work for one of their food service companies, so I know what Lloyd Turner buys, because I delivered most of it. Not worth my time. read more

Oh cheeseburger in paradise, how do I love thee. So simple, yet so delicious. I cannot even explain what makes it so good...they probably make them with unicorn tears. I've searched far and wide, but this is my favorite burger of all time. I haven't actually had one in 6 years since I graduated, but I was reminiscing with some friends this evening and it all came back. I'd plan a trip out to lbk just for this burger. I remember the queso and tarantula margaritas being particularly delicious also. read more

One of the best places to eat in Lubbock, hands down. I'll start with my very few problems with Caprock: long waits on weekends during football season, and the fact that they aren't closer to campus. The burgers are very good, and will please the picky eaters. If you're adventurous, try the Down and Dirty Chicken. It's one of the best sandwiches I've ever tried. Don't worry about the description, it's not that hot; its more like a butter/garlic/spice mix they dip the chicken in. Don't come here expecting anything other than good, Texas Style cooking. It's not fancy, but good food doesn't need to be. read more

This place has one of the coldest beers in town but tonight I went there to have a few beers at the bar and got nothing but bad service from the bartender. I had to ask for a beer every time even though the bartender saw that I was empty. Disappointing service. read more

Some coworkers and I went to lunch. As always, the queso burger was spot on, but our waitress gave me a hard time for paying with some change. Her comment was a sarcastic, "I love getting paid in change" and "I hope you didn't lose your life savings." Last time I checked; coins still counted as currency. She was definitely throwing some serious shade. Good thing, she had cute dimples, or I would have left exact change. In all honesty, we had a good laugh about it. Thank you for that, dimples. Next time, I will bring a piggy bank. ;-) read more

This sports bar gets four stars because it offers a full menu until midnight. That's a great plus in Lubbock. Affordable prices and good, friendly service. I would avoid the salad next time. Nachos were great. read more

I came here for the first time with two of my sisters and we just weren't impressed by anything, the food was mediocre at best. Over all the atmosphere of the place was really great but I'd probably never suggest returning. read more

Vast menu with everything from chicken fried steaks to green chile chicken enchiladas. A great spot to bring out of towners or a friend for a drink. Everything I've had here is great and I haven't been disappointed yet. I recommend starting with the queso, getting a chicken fried steak to eat, and a margarita on the rocks. Great West Texas atmosphere and perfect to watch your favorite sports team over some apps and drinks. read more

Caprock Cafe - Prickly Pear Margarita - Burgers Near Me - Lubbock, Texas

Great salads, fries, chips and salsa, love their beer, customer service, prices and ambiance. We'll definitely visit this place again!

Caprock Cafe is one of my favorite places to go unwind and have some great food. They have a very diverse menu with something for everyone. I personally enjoy the Pecos Queso and the Blue Cheese bacon burger with an America Buffalo patty. The green chili chicken fried steak is amazing! And if you are tired of fries, try their loaded twisted taters. They also have a variety of wraps for those seeking healthier fare. I haven't even mentioned one of the things they are most known for. Caprock Cafe has a magical ability to bring you the coldest beer you will find anywhere in the state! The environment is quirky and fun and you are guaranteed to enjoy your experience! read more

Super great place to hang and have a beer or three! Food was great and beer was cold cold.. Can't get Mich better than that! read more

Caprock Cafe - Where Texas Plays! Nice - Burgers Near Me - Lubbock, Texas

Went here on a recommendation from a former resident. Took my daughter and roommate from Tech for lunch. Great meal. The fried pickles are to die for! Everything is reasonably priced and great variety. I had a queso burger, daughter and friend had the chicken fried chicken and "down and dirty" wings. Fantastic service and atmosphere. The Tech game was on so it had a great Lubbock feel. Food was served quickly and never had to ask for a refill of drinks. We will definitely be back. read more

We had the Down and dirty chicken strips with garlic broccoli and french fries. Everything was awesome! That down and dirty sauce was very unique. Garlic broccoli was very tasty and crispy fries were delish. Our waitress was friendly and the service was quick. read more

Good steak. Awesome garlic broccoli, so fresh. Good salsa and chips! A definite bar environment. Would go back if in the area. Small menus selection. Could use more steak options. read more

This is one of the first places I ate as a freshman, and I still go back to it as a grad student. They're chicken fried chicken with green chili cheese gravy is one of the best things to have graced my tastebuds. It's priced mid range but they give you a lot of food. It's a sports bar/restaurant, so it can get noisy in the evenings. read more

Now that I haven't worked at Caprock for over a year, I can review it somewhat objectively. I love their food, drinks, pretty much everything about it. Drink specials are great (happy hour every day!) and the food prices aren't bad either. My favorites include the kids size down & dirty chicken strips, queso burger, cheddar fries, the down & dirty salad but subbed with buffalo sauce-- also good in the wrap! Their fries with their ranch is so good, they have the best ranch. Turkey bacon sandwich, jalapeño poppers (expensive though), chips and salsa... I could probably keep going. Although they lost me as a valuable employee ;) I keep going back. read more

Relaxing atmosphere. Fast friendly service. Good food. What more does a good place to eat need?? Just stopped in for lunch and everything seemed to be operating like a well oiled machine. Highly recommend the Sun dried tomato salad dressing, and it's fat free! read more

This place is a must when visiting Lubbock. Caprock has the best Chilton's in town. If you aren't familiar with the drink, try it. You'll love the refreshing lemon drink. Caprock has pretty predictable bar food. The queso is delicious. It's always clean, the staff is fantastic, and I've always had a manager stop by the table for a friendly hello and check in. read more

The waitresses was so wonderful with child that has ASD. She made our visit enjoyable. Will return again.

Yup! I was in town visiting from Dallas and used to live in Lubbock years ago with this place being a favorite. Now, every time I return to Lubbock this has to be a location to go to and eat. The food is amazing! The buffalo bacon burger is worth a try as well as any burger here. I cant wait to return to Lubbock and visit this place again. Good Job! read more

The food, service and atmosphere were great. I ordered a Chilton and it came in a really small glass and was full of ice. Not much drink at all. The drink was not worth the cost. read more

Been to caprock cafe 2 times in 1 month, ordered the 1/4 cheesburger the first time and the blue cheese and bacon burger the second time along with queso as a appetizer. Really good burgers and the queso has the perfect amount of spice added. It does get packed and a bit loud during happy hour but the service is still good. Recommend this place! read more

We had to leave due to not being served. Two waitresses or hostesses asked if we had drinks but none were ever brought. We had high expectations after reading other reviews. read more

Bad experience. Waitress did not ask for ID. when I ordered my drink. Was then served the wrong sandwich. I let the manager know. He went over and flirted with our waitress, then nothing else was addressed or mentioned of my incorrect food. The wait staff and managers appear to socialize more, rather than tending to the customers.. But Good drinks, and GREAT queso! read more

We had lunch here on Monday, dining on the enclosed, heated patio.
