I went in by myself on a Thursday evening, as I was in Lubbock (and at TTU) for work meetings, and sat at the bar for a beer and dinner. Three employees -- servers and bartenders -- were working the place, as it was summer and school wasn't yet in session, so while most tables were filled, the bar had empty seats and a couple of tables were still empty. TEN MINUTES I sat at the bar before I was even acknowledged, and that was because the two guys next to me, who'd been there at least that long themselves, finally asked for menus, and so I said, "I'd like one, too." The guy got me a menu and I decided on what to order. Set the menu down, and another 5+ minutes went by while the servers dealt with other tables and even other customers at the bar. Now, we are 15+ minutes in, and finally the guy who got me the menu asked if I wanted something to drink. I ordered a beer, where he could have TURNED AROUND to enter it in the register and pour it from the tap, but he went to another table and I didn't see him again for another 5 or so minutes. At that point, I'd had enough, and I left. I would have enjoyed trying the pizza and enjoying a beer there. The place had a cool vibe and the food looked and smelled good, from what I could see from neighbors. But the dismissive attitude of the staff who must actually have looked THROUGH me (I was at the very center of the bar and I'm pretty sure I'm not transparent) and having been ignored for about 20 minutes was enough. Went down the road to Flippers Tavern and had a wonderful experience there! Sorry, but if you can't even acknowledge your customers when you're busy but not slammed, you don't deserve my business. Maybe it's because I'm an Old Dude and not a young hipster or college student, but it was disappointing and frustrating. Bottom line: skip this place, especially if you're over 35 or so.

The location is nice if you're anywhere near the Tech campus area. It's right on Broadway. Parking can be tough if it's busy. There is street parking and a lot, but neither are the most plentiful. The food is the real star though. Their wings are incredible, and they don't mess around with the spice. They can be hot! I love the jalapeño poppers. Where else gives you a real popper and not just a frozen and deep fried version? As for the pizza...I'm pleased to say it's the best part of an already awesome place. It doesn't matter what kind you get, you'll be happy with your choice. The Last Call Pizza deserves it's own paragraph. I think I can confidently say it's my favorite pizza of all time. And the second time I had it, confirmed just that. Look at this description - "Homemade smoky pizza sauce and alfredo sauce, topped with cheese, bacon, sausage, sunny-side-up eggs, and drizzled with our sriracha sauce". It's INCREDIBLE! Can't recommend this place enough, if you're in Lubbock get over here!

It used to be only order over the phone, but it is nice to order online using Slice now because you do not have to preplan and prepare for a phone call. You just pick your pizzas and order. It is great. I enjoy dining in as well. The place feels pretty small, but there is a big overflow room in the back on busy nights. They have a full bar, which is pretty cool for keeping the party going. You do have to pay a little more than at your typical pizzeria, but I think the tradeoff is worth it. The salad out front was decent enough, albeit pretty basic and definitely nothing special. The calzone was watery. Yes, watery. I don't even know how or why, but there was an excessive amount of watery liquid coming out of it. The pepperoni pizza was decent enough, but definitely no better than you're going to get from a chain, or (I can't believe I'm saying this) frozen. The sauce was particularly off-putting and gave me a different kind of nostalgia than I thought I would get eating here. It reminded me of eating Chef Boyardee vlin microwavable bowls as a kid. I was told that after taking the leftovers home and trying them the next day, they were even worse reheated. I didn't have that misfortune myself as I was done with it after the meal. The service was adequately good, but there was no crowd like I would have expected, and it's easy to see why. I'm fully aware of the reasons things may have gone a different direction (specifically downhill) at One Guy's and that there are now more options in town. I just hoped that this location still had some of that pizazz that made it special. Sadly, I was disappointed.

This was our first visit and we LOVED La Palapa. House Margarita was delicious and very cheap ($3.99 I think?). The restaurant was well kept and very clean. I had the skillet enchiladas and they were so good. The shrimp were plump and juicy and the meat was crispy but tender and seasoned to perfection. We will definitely be back. My first time I went, my group of guys and I were put in a room with all the other white people. I get putting a bunch of three-taco-plate-and-queso people in one room. I have not been back in quite a while, but I remember their menu being the most behemoth-looking thing ever. Every item had a picture taken on a Coolpix camera, and the text was almost impossible to read on the menu's busy background. That is proof that the food was going to hit. After returning, the menu has been minimized to be more readable, only slightly keeping that same over-the-top flair. The prices have gone up slightly, but where have they not? On a Thursday night, we were seated immediately around 7:30 and had a pretty attentive waitress. Like every good Tex-Mex joint in Texas, their chips and salsa roam freely through the restaurant, and the salsa has a good kick that is easy to manage while still having the heat everyone wants. They also have a creamy green sauce and other sauces they bring out by request. I ordered a combination plate with a crispy beef taco, a beef burrito, and a chicken enchilada with a side of Mexican rice. I added a side of refried beans because no Tex-Mex meal is complete without a big serving of refried beans to mix with the rice and crush with tortilla chips. The crispy taco was unreal. The shell feels like it was double-fried. It has such an incredible hardness to it. It feels premium. The beef burrito and enchilada were great as well, but I was blown away by the taco to an extreme. They have a pretty broad selection of Mexican beers, including Tecate, Bohemia, Dos Equis Amber, Modelo Negra, and Victoria next to your Coronas, Sol, and Dos Equis. Their margaritas are pretty great, if my memory serves me right, as well. I love this place, and I was glad to give it a revisit while being back in Lubbock for a bit. It is just classic and timeless. I just wish their menu was as much of an eyesore as it used to be because that sucker brought me so much joy. RIYL: Gaining five pounds in an hour. A good meal.
