I have been to Capital Pizza in Tech Terrace many, many times through college, after graduation, and on many revisits to Lubbock, and I will proudly say it is the best pizza in Lubbock. I will start off by saying sometimes the wait is excruciatingly slow for dine-in, whether it is almost empty or packed. However, takeout is usually pretty on top of it. Capital wins out if you like your crust a little doughy. There is this intense softness to their pizza that it is almost like tasting a cloud. It is legit. Some personal favorites of mine are their Hot Honey pizza, but this last time I ordered a Classic Margherita, and I loved it. It is really like no other pizza place I have been to, and I always find enjoyment in their immensely doughy crusts. It used to be only order over the phone, but it is nice to order online using Slice now because you do not have to preplan and prepare for a phone call. You just pick your pizzas and order. It is great. I enjoy dining in as well. The place feels pretty small, but there is a big overflow room in the back on busy nights. They have a full bar, which is pretty cool for keeping the party going. You do have to pay a little more than at your typical pizzeria, but I think the tradeoff is worth it. I have been having capital pizza since I was a student at Texas Tech and have continued to order it many times in my visits back since. Our favorite is the carnivore pizza + the breadsticks with sides of ranch (obviously). 9/10 I order my pizzas to go, but even then in the time from ordering to pick up the customer service is extremely friendly and attentive. Pizza has a pretty solid pizza game. I think my favorite is the green chili pizza. They also do a nice lunch buffet option. The pizza always has generous portions of toppings, except maybe sometimes on the buffet. Prices are fair considering they make their dough and have generous toppings. read more

2026, June 07. Other than the pizza was burnt, what wasn't burnt was good. (See attached photo) I could not believe that the kitchen staff allowed this burnt pizza out of the kitchen. Is this is the standard of quality that they feel is acceptable? Then to charge $20 for a one ingredient small pizza just adss insult to injury. I have been going to Capitol pizza since it open and I have noticed their quality of food preparation over the last 3 or four months has been in decline. I ordered cheesy sticks and a calzone with Canadian bacon, mushrooms, green pepper and black olives. It was delivered with two large containers of marinara for dipping. The cheesy sticks were very thin, but I like thin crust, and they packed a lot of flavor for an appetizer. The marinara dipping sauce was thick, but not chunky, and was great with the cheese sticks. Pretty good stuff. Then on to the main event - the calzone. Believe me when I tell you this calzone was completely flavorless. I'm not sure how they did it with so many ingredients on board, but it was like eating water. Seriously - ZERO FLAVOR!!! Hand to god, I dissected the calzone to see if it actually had ingredients (it did). I dipped it in the marinara and, well....it tasted like cardboard with marinara. This is the 3rd time I've given Capital Pizza a try. This will be the last time unless I'm dragged there by family. I've had various food items from them and 85% of them have been BLAH. The cheesy sticks were good, but not enough to score additional stars, especially when it's an appetizer. This place was amazing. This has to be the best pizza we've ever had. My mom is celiac and doesn't get to eat pizza very often and when she does it's always mid but this was definitely the best gluten free pizza we have ever had. The staff were amazing. We had a really nice waitress serving our party of 26. I wish I could remember her name but she was amazing. My only thing is, you need one of these in Houston where I live! Discount not applied: Went to capital because they had a $5 off of a $25 purchase discount through campus cash. After redeeming the discount, eating, and receiving the bill, my boyfriend and I thought the price of the check seemed a bit steep. 4 sides of ranch ($.50 each), and one capital carnivore pizza ($27.99) should total $26.99 with the coupon. The tab we received was $31.99. Our server Sarah, who had beautiful eyes might I add, forgot to discount the price, even though she confirmed she discounted the pizza. Pizza rolls and calzones were amazing. Service and ticket times were ridiculously bad. Pizza rolls were one of the best I've had. A lot of cheese and tasty marinara. Caesar salad was great with a caesar vinaigrette. White pizza left more to be desired. It was Luke warm with little flavor. Server didn't even try, too busy cleaning her section. We had to ask 3 times for our table to be cleaned. No one was offered another drink from bar or drink refills. Mind you, we arrived at 9 pm so they weren't busy. Salad/appetizer took 20 minutes, entrees took 1 hour! Finally received food with one calzone missing. Everyone was finished eating and checks were closed, still never arrived 30 minutes later. She offered to bring it to-go and it never came so we left without it and she had no clue. The guy with no food had to share food with someone else. Wings appetizer arrived after pizza did. Pizza was dry because they forgot to give my Uber Eats guy my Pizza... Terrible pizza, poor service. Tonight I came in, and ordered a small cheese pizza with onion and tomato. What they served up was a truly goopy mess devoid of any quality, browning (of the cheese), or toppings. What ensued? A sea of goopy, tasteless, adhesive-like cheese dumped on a thick crust. When I politely asked the staff if they could give it more time to attempt to salvage it, mentioning that the cheese was tasteless, near raw, and adhesive like, they responded by saying that the oven was turned off before the pizza was out. They charged me for the whole thing but waived the price of the soda. When I asked for a refill of iced tea to go, you got it... they threw it away in anticipation of closing. One of the worst pizzas I've ever had at a dedicated pizza restaurant. My standard is Pizzeria Mozza in Hollywood, where Nancy Silverton creates culinary miracles. This was bad, really bad. Update: The manager responded that it is "disrespectful" for paying customers to frequent their store much before closing. We will seem this "the quote of the quarter." When I moved to a college town, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect in the middle of West Texas. The neighborhoods are sometimes a dystopian nightmare and it's quite odd at times. However, Tech Terrace is a nice mix of residential with very few business and a couple of parks. Very family friendly and more typical of a nice neighborhood near a college without being directly and immediately a part of it. Capital Pizza exemplifies the neighborhood with its atmosphere, drink selection, and food. College kids and 9-to-5ers can all feel welcome at this place. Highly recommended. read more

Walked in on a Saturday night and truly enjoyed our evening. Staff welcomed us in right away and we were able to sit where we liked. They offer happy hour all day on Saturdays and wine was 3.50 I believe. They also had 4 dollar chiltons. We ordered the big one pizza and we're astounded with the generous amount of toppings! It was very delicious. We also did try an order of their buffalo wings and although they were tasty, the only complaint was that there were some very small pieces served. Love their pizza! Create flavorful crust and generous toppings. Parking is rough though so I'd just do carryout.

So...the courts have said merchants can assess a service fee on credit cards. Merchants should disclose that they are going to do so before even ordering. Capital Pizza DOES NOT. I get the fees may feel onerous. This does not excuse the practice especially when the merchant fails to disclose this information. I visited CP on a December 2024 road trip. Will NEVER patronize them again. If a hometown merchant tells me in advance that such a fee will be charged, I might still begrudgingly use them (certainly less often). If the fee is not disclosed until I'm handed the bill, I DON'T patronize them--EVER. The error here is failure to disclose this BEFORE I decide to take a table. One parting thought: Let's hope all that cash actually ends up in the restaurant till and not in the sticky fingers of other patrons or even the wait staff. If restaurants and other merchants crying over credit card fees start complaining about theft, it will only be a bed of their own making. read more
