In general, a standard calzone is filled with ricotta, mozzarella, and Parmesan/ Pecorino Romano and the dough is fresh made with some oregano and a little salt and pepper. This was not it, just cheap mozzarella and cheap ham (Canadian bacon). The dough is bland and it's basically a large Hot Pocket. I don't know if this place is still owned by the original owner, but I don't think so. 1 calzone took 30 minutes to make. Waaaaaaaaay too long. Several other customers after me received their food first. I had to inquire if something had happened to the order and they told me it would be a few more minutes. ONE BITE! EVERYONE KNOWS THE RULES! This is a staple in Lubbock and they do what all college town pizza places do and that is pizza by the slice among other things. A good size slice of pepperoni coming in at just over $4 is a good deal in my mind. The restaurant was clean and staff was friendly and greeted me the moment I walked in. They had their pizzas in a glass window so you could see them. I ordered the pepperoni and they put the slice in the oven to warm it up. The slice was hot and crispy, they may have left the slice in the over a little too long, it got a good crisp on it almost to the point of being burnt. I let it slide because it didn't taste like Burnt crust but it was almost to that point. The crust was crispy and had good chew, there was zero flop in the slice and it was crispy. The sauce was great! It has good tang and you could taste the ingredients within the sauce. If I had to give one critique I would have wanted a little bit more sauce. GIVE ME THE SAUCE! . The pepperoni was of good quality because it started to cup up trapping all of that fat it has, which is flavor! The cheese was a good mix and tasted great. This by no means is award winning in my mind but it is great pizza for the price and it being next to bars and across the street from Texas Tech it's a great late night pizza. Stopped by One Guy from Italy for a quick bite before heading out to Llano Estacado Winery. When you arrive parking can be a bit tricky but you can park on a side street or off university. I'd recommend not parking on university as backing out of the parking spot can be difficult. When you walk in you'll feel like you've been transported to a New York pizza restaurant. To order you'll walk up to the counter to place your order, the cashier will hand you a number and then you'll select a table to sit at. I highly recommend ordering the calzone here, and staying away from the pizza slices. I haven't quite figured out what it is but the calzone is by far the best item on the menu. I used to eat here when I went to Tech and it was great. I brought my daughter here one night now that she is attending Tech and wanted her to experience this place. We came in about 9pm on a Sunday night. The sign on the door said it was open until midnight. There were several others in the place eating but not a big crowd. I had talked up this place and was excited to share it with my daughter. We ordered a pizza, a calzone and sat where we could watch the football game. The Chiefs were playing and I figured since Patrick Mahomes is a Tech legend the game would be on. We got our food and as we began eating they started stacking the chairs on the tables, turned off the tv's and acted as if they were closing. The food is still good, but the staff was really bad this night. They were rude, of little help, didn't provide what we asked and rushed us out of there. It appeared they had more important things to do.. It was a disappointing experience for me as I had really talked it up. I am stopping in Lubbock spending the night. A friend highly recommended this restaurant. I ordered a pepperoni and sausage calzone and my husband ordered the wings. What you see in the photo is all the sausage that was in my calzone. There was only 4 slices of pepperoni. I was very upset but I went ahead and ate it. I was tired and have been driving all day. Plus I have never had to purchase marinara sauce for a calzone. Usually they are complementary. Overall taste was ok. Most of my calzone consisted of crust. Upon arrival was told "He's working on it." 30 minutes later went to the counter to check, only to discover it had been ready for God only knows how long-at least long enough for the grease to start to coagulate. First and foremost Yelp does not allow me to specify my star rating. My fellow officers and I deemed it appropriate to rate this pie a 2.75 but Yelp only utilizes solid numbers. Much like my American Government class grade of 2004, we had to round up. Our Italian connoisseur Top Ramen, ordered the Supreme. We found that the vegetation as well as the protein of choice was subpar due to lack time spent in it's heating apparatus . We could see the route they were trying to take but the execution came up just short. The spread of ingredients however was even and no bite was left without attention. The Meat Lovers, although cooked more thoroughly than the supreme, seemed to be just thrown together in a rush and lacked the pizazz that the veggies gave the supreme. All meats were bunched in the middle like a high school party with DJ Sancho as it's guest. The bacon was a no for me, I know great value bacon when I taste it. Other than that the slices varied in size, pizza was big for the currency that went into. If I was trying to feed a pack of hungry adolescent athletes, this would definitely do the trick. This place really surprised me. The garlic bread was delicious. The calzone was really good. My husband said most of the time, calzones are overly cheesy but this one was the perfect balance of cheese and sauce. It was crispy and delicious.
