I am in Lubbock for a few days and made it by Caprock Cafe to eat dinner. 1st off Kaden (sp) is phenomenal. She was very attentive but never interrupting. She definitely deserves a raise!!! I got the green chili chicken fried steak with beans and mashed potatoes. The green chili suace with cheese was a unique touch to the chicken fry. I would not have thought to put them together, but it really worked. The mashed potatoes were spot on and the beans were very good, although they had a little too much season, it made you loose the jalapeño and bacon flavor. I set by the bar and the atmosphere is perfect. Recommendations: upgrade to hand breaded chicken fried steak but don't change a thing on the green chili sauce, upgrade your bread to a thicker Texas Toast (you are Caprock Cafe), upgrade your tv package. I was in on Sunday and only one game on all the TV's and it was not Dallas, lol. read more

They told my boyfriend his hamburger got burnt or something and they had to make a new one, so it was gonna take a longer , so that was nice that they kept him informed why his food came out much later. Typically have good service from here. However, today was the worst service experience of my entire life. Davoni was our waitress. Seriously the worst, most rude, dismissive server I have ever experienced. From the first time she came up to our table, all she did was roll her eyes and speak with an attitude and rude tone to everyone at the table. The other employees seemed nice, but Davoni ruined the entire experience for us. While now as "the Best Place to Get a Beer", what you really need to know is they make some kickin' margaritas. They have several flavors (like regular, Prickly Pear, or a Blue Zini (with two shots of José Cuervo Gold). Come during happy hour (every day from 3-7pm) and get several alcoholic drinks for a great deal! Easily one of the best, most affordable margaritas around (even at original price). My husband and I have two favorites on the signature portion of the menu: the Cheeseburger in Paradise (half-pound, double stack + a fried egg on top) and the Spicy Cholula Chicken Sandwich (with a side of spicy ranch). THEY'RE SO GOOD. Caprock is a go-to if you're in Lubbock and want good ol' burgers & beers. Thi is definitely a place to take folks who are stopping through Lubbock, as it gives you the full West Texas bar & eatery experience. Pretty good service most often. This place gets one star because the food and drinks are good. However, our server Alainee M, made our experience quite horrible. It is very degrading to watch your server purposely ignore you. The restaurant was not very busy and Alainee only had a few tables. My husband was not able to order drinks due to losing his wallet. I was allowing him to sip out of mine because in accordance with Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission, a spouse can consent for alcohol. However, instead of approaching us, Alainee grabbed her manager to speak to us, and then continued to completely neglect our table for the rest of our time. We watched her walk back and forth out the kitchen and aimlessly go in circles around the dining room. We saw as she checked on her two other tables while completely avoiding ours. We had to bother another server to order more drinks, while Alainee was chit chatting with her friends. We complained to the manager. The manager was very sweet and apologetic and it was refreshing to have some form of kind service. Afterwards, Alainee came to our table with the check and in the most sarcastic, petty, and rude way told us "here's the check" before darting off. Worst lunch experience ever!! Decided to give this place a try for lunch yesterday. Called in our order of 2 burgers with fries and sodas, was told it would be available for pick up in 15 minutes. I arrived and was told that they would bring it out to my car so I waited and waited and waited. Finally I called them on my cell phone to ask why I had to wait 30 minutes for my order and was told that they'd bring it right out. They brought out the food, but not the drinks. While the girl was back inside to get the drinks I checked the temp of the fries and they were not hot, just warm. When she returned with my drinks I told her that I wasn't impressed having to wait additional time and the food wasn't even fresh! She made some excuse and apologized, but it felt like empty. Anyway, all of the food was cold, but at least I paid too much for it!! I recommend that you go to Five Guys if you want some good burgers, avoid Caprock Cafe at all costs! read more

Consistently great food but the service is often rather slow. If you get the chance, I would recommend sitting outside. The seating is pretty tight and its usually pretty easy to get a conversation going with adjacent tables. They are proud of there food so be prepared. It's worth every penny but a big meal here means LOTS of pennies. My usual is chips and queso for starters and the Cholula Spicy Chicken Sandwich with (this is the important part) 'twisted taters'. If I were a local I'd be the resident Norm of this fine establishment for sure. Fortunately I'm not local as I'd probably also start to resemble Norm in physique as well. I've bellied up to and stumbled out of grill and bar/ sports bars throughout the majority of the country and this one continues to be one of my favorites. If you asked what makes it special, I'd say everything really. For one, it's just a lively and fun place. It's cozy, but not too cozy with a laid back and completely unpretentious atmosphere. It can get loud of course, but seldom to the point of interrupting a conversation at your table. I'm particularly fond of the Texas flair in the decor. The service is always good and the scenery is never bad. It's the perfect spot to watch a game and the food is wonderful. It has become commonplace for places to taught "ice cold beer", but in many cases it just means cold as opposed to hot. Caprock serves their draft beer in frozen Schooners and I've never had one that didn't have ice falling off of it. I'm positive that this is the way God intended it to be. As for the food, the chips and queso are absolutely phenomenal and a must have. I'd venture to say it's quite possibly the best queso in Lubbock. Anyone that knows the lay of the land, knows that there is no shortage of places to get a queso fix in the 806. There is an assortment of food options here, but I've never managed to get myself past the burgers. The burgers are delicious. It's clear that they use a quality meat (presumably a hand pressed patty) that is well seasoned, juicy and always char-grilled to perfection. Your have a choice of 1/4lb. 1/2lb. or buffalo patty. Then there is the burger toppings - talking about the long ball to deep center that was never in doubt. The aforementioned queso is available as a burger option and in conjunction with a couple of crispy strips of premium smoked bacon, is a real show stopper. If you're not feeling the queso, there is the blue cheese bacon burger, the mushroom and Swiss, the green chile, the hickory, the guacamole or the works which consists of guacamole, bacon, cheese and green chilies. Or you can build your own with bbq, four types of cheese, smoked bacon, chilies, grilled jalapeños, guacamole, enchilada sauce and fried egg. You really can't go wrong with any burger. In addition, the burgers come with the biggest selection of side item options you'll see anywhere. In case the burger isn't speaking to you, there is a bountiful selection of appetizers, soups and salads (you wouldn't dare...), a huge selection of sandwiches that sound amazing (one day I'll venture out), steaks and chicken (green chili chicken-fried steak anyone?), tortilla wraps and a Tex-Mex selection (choice of enchiladas, quesadillas or the queso taco beef burrito). I really don't think you could go wrong with anything here or ever get bored with all of the options. On my most recent visit, the entire experience was stellar. It was a packed house, but the service was never lacking. The queso was amazing as always and the ice laden schooners will remain on my mind. We stopped here when traveling through from Houston. My husband is a big burger fan and seeks out the best burgers when ever he can. So we came to Caperock cafe. Based on the reviews we started with queso. The chips were over done and saturated with oil, a pet peeve of mine. I declared the queso "not good but not bad." My husband replied "it's just velveeta. Nothing to mess up there." Indeed. Eat it. Skip it. It's all the same. He had the cheese burger in Paradise with buffalo patties. I thought a nicer bun might helped. Despite all the great reviews, the verdict: tasteless. Maybe it was the buffalo? I ordered the "down and dirty" chicken wrap with a small salad hoping to try something different and up my vegetable count for the day. The salad was a flop. Mom always said a salad needs 5 vegetables. I got a bowl of lettuce with two onion slices and too tiny carrots, all covered in cheese. Fail. The down and dirty sauce was described as a sauce of garlic and habanero hot sauce. I was nervous that this wrap was too hot for me, but I dove in. Went to check on being seated after 30 minutes, and was told we were still sixth in line. So, we ordered drinks in waiting area from one of the cocktail waitresses serving people waiting in seating area outside. About 10 minutes later, the cocktail waitress looked at us and remembered we had a drink order. After our drinks came, and I paid, I checked on our place in line again and was told they called my name a long time ago. The hostess said we would be seated next. They then called a party of six, and seated two more parties while I stood nearby. I interrupted the hostess again and asked if she planned to seat us. We were finally seated over an hour after checking in. They never texted me, but asked if I left or gave them a different number. I had not left, and the confirmed having the right number. I had green chili chicken enchiladas which were good. My wife had chicken fried chicken and she thinks it tasted like it was microwaved and tasted terrible. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Lots of decorations, many of which need dusting. Lock on women's restroom was not working, so she got walked in on while on the toilet. Also, she had no toilet paper in the women's restroom. Caprock Cafe has quickly become one of my go to places. It has so much variety on the menu. I usually go to the location on 82nd. I like their outdoor seating area a lot more. This location has outdoor seating, sometimes you get stuck in a spot where you are outside, but can't even really see outside.The atmosphere is very quirky Texan decor. This is a great place to go with a group, they have choices for any appetite. I have tried their burger, their philly cheesesteak, their down and dirty wings, their down and dirty chicken strips and everything has been top notch! Down and dirty means it has garlic habanero on it. I am addicted to that sauce and crave it often! They also have great drink deals and plenty of beers on tap and available. Caprock Cafe is one of those good standard places to go in Lubbock. It is pretty consistent across the board on food, drinks, service, etc. Interesting things about Caprock: - They serve buffalo if requested for beef dishes. - They have several Cholula dishes - and you have to love a place with a bottle of Cholula on every table. - Drinks are decently priced, and they have a decent happy hour. - Atmosphere is pretty cool, and they have a pseudo outdoor area to hang in where you can smoke. I really don't have any complaints about the place, so I won't bother with an 'uninteresting' section. I guess I could say it gets a bit crowded at times, and sometimes there is a wait. I ordered the steak with broccoli, I ordered the steak medium however, when I received the steak it was bone dry and super overdone. Typically I'm expecting frozen microwaved chicken when I'm at a sports bar but this was great. The beer was served cold which is typically my only requirement so no complaints there. This has become my go to place when I'm in town for a layover with business. I don't get to stay in Lubbock more than one night but when I am here Caprock is where I head. The Schooners are big and cold with great beer deals in the evening. The food is great, affordable, and full of flavor. I enjoy the burgers, the Texas toothpicks are the way to go for your side. The waitstaff is friendly and the atmosphere inside is fun and there are plenty of TVs to watch. There really isn't an age group here, it gets young during the college nights but I have seen all age ranges and some families (not too many since it is a bit loud). Cheesecake factory being the only acception. Haha "fresh frozen" I ordered the bacon and blue cheese burger med rare with fries. How do you F that up. The burger had obviously been frozen, the bacon was over cooked and chewy and the expo did not put the blue cheese crumbles on... Oh wait I'm sorry I paid extra for blue cheese dressing. What a joke. The atmosphere is fun. It seems to be clean the few times I've been here. The quality of the food served is always good. However, I don't recommend their margaritas. I understand they are known for their beers and my dining companions enjoyed theirs. I favor margaritas but didn't enjoy the one served by Caprock Cafe. A couple of other side notes: salad options are minimal - Caesar is not an option. They serve mozzarella sticks without marinara sauce which we thought was odd. Overall, their pricing is good, their service is prompt and friendly and they seem to appreciate their customers. So, that bumped it from 3 up to 4 stars. read more
