I have only been to Capri one time. A good first impression goes a long way. The atmosphere is classy with beautiful woodwork, fireplace, cloth tablecloths and even a burning candle at the table. Men serve in black and white tux style attire minus the jacket. Service was prompt and the food hot and delicious. They even brought out hot, fresh dinner rolls. Opening impression was an inviting, warm atmosphere with excellent attention to detail (there was a live fireplace crackling at the far end of the dining area). We started with wine, a pinot noir for me and a moscato for my wife. Warm bread and soft, whipped butter came shortly afterward. We ordered our food and did not have to wait long. Our waiter was an Italian man, who helped with the selection. My wife's meal was a shrimp tortellini in red sauce and I went with the Scalloppina di Vitello Pizzaiola. My wife misunderstood her order, as she was wanting white wine cream sauce, but my order was exactly what I was in the mood for. The veal, red sauce, along with capers were tasty and the potatoes deliciously mopped up the rest of the sauce. The highlight of the evening was the dessert, when we received and started into our Tiramisus. My wife and I always try Tiramisu at many establishments. Really disappointed in this place. Ice machine stopped working and the ice they were bringing in had crud in it and was floating in our drinks. Steak was not cooked right. Even the waiter pointed out the crud in our drinks and showed the manager but he acted like he could care less. Beautiful place and I expected better. We have lived near Capri for 4 years but never stopped in. Tonight, we changed that. We're so glad we did! The food was delicious, the waitress attentive, and we met the owner. We dined on lamb shank, scallop risotto, tortellini, and lemon cake. It was all amazing! We will be back! read more

I have had Lisa and all the staff members before all were excellent and very attentive . I also feel customers could learn to be a little more gracious and kinder to servers and management who are doing their very best during trying times . We have gone there for years and always the Food and the Staff are always consistent. So maybe change the way you look at things and maybe you will be surprised on how things change . Now days especially people are hyper critical and are looking for reasons to be offended . Just go out and have a good time . Mixed review. The food was awesome! The atmosphere is great but the service is pretentious. We had the veal and it was delicious but at the end of our meal the computer system went down and they could not except a credit card. My husband had to go off site to an ATM machine to get cash to pay our bill. That would've been fine if we had been shown any consideration for the inconvenience we were experiencing. I sat at the bar waiting for my husband and you would think they would offer me a free drink or dessert or something for the trouble, but no, the owner walked around and never ever acknowledged that we were being inconvenienced. Sorry, but not a good experience despite the great food. The attitude ruined a good evening. I feel bad for the bartender who obviously is not empowered to satisfy guests. read more

A group of us took refuge here after a rain swept ND game and the fire and food were very welcoming indeed! Not the best Italian I've had, but very good for the South Bend general area. Lovely atmosphere and our group was treated nicely, although the service was a bit spotty and our waiter too often hard to find. The calamari fritti was nicely done and devoured quickly. Next some had the Cesare salad (fresh, cold, good sized, and nicely adorned with fresh cheese), the lentil soup (high marks), and the caprese salad (seemed to me expensive at $11.50). Entrees picked were the homemade gnocchi (very generous portion, nice light sauce, but mine was served less than hot) and one veal pizzaiola (again a generous portion as well as getting high marks by the member of our party who ordered this). They have a nice wine list and we decided on the 2012 Carpineto Chianti Reserva. OK at $68.00 a bottle, but for a '12 we were hoping for more in this wine, but that is not on the restaurant. The espresso was very nicely done and delicious to end our meal. For Italian in the greater South Bend area this is your best option! Well worth the visit! read more

This quickly became our favorite Italian restaurant! The atmosphere is friendly, cozy, and family-friendly while still being romantic! We were welcomed by the sweet owners who took time to get to know us, and our server was quick and friendly as well. We ordered our kids' meal first, thinking it would take a while, but we were pleasantly surprised when our server prioritized their plates and brought them out in short order. The meals and the wine selection were reasonably priced. Every plate that our party ordered was markedly delicious! Fresh, well-prepared ingredients and not overly drowned in sauce. The house-made lemoncello was a special treat as a digestivo. The entire experience brought us back to our time living or visiting Italy! We will be regulars here. read more

Very nice restaurant!! Beautiful interior especially the long mahogany bar. Just sets the whole tone of the dining room beautifully. When we stopped here we had mentioned to our waitress that unfortunately we weren't here to necessarily take our time and were in a bit of a time crunch but really wanted to enjoy a good meal and she said she would definitely let the chef know and we would be served quickly. Within probably less than 10 minutes after ordering, we had our food. We had the spinach fettuccine and the stuffed bell peppers which were both delicious. I actually didn't know this place existed until I came out of Big C Lumber and saw the sign, "Capri". I decided to try it and took my son there for his 38th birthday. If you like Italian, this is very good, but is definitely a high-end restaurant, with great atmosphere, very good service, and excellent home-made food. My wife and I had the spaghetti, (from scratch), and it was the best. The three of us each had a drink, and got out for about $100.00, including the 20% tip. I really like my own home-made spaghetti, but would go back here if I feel like having some excellent Italian food. read more

It's no surprise that there are some decent Italian restaurants in Michiana. What is a surprise, at least it was to us, is that the best one is in Granger. Not at Heritage Sq., Granger, but Granger proper. The owner is from Roma, the ambience is from a cigar magazine, and the pasta is from heaven. If you like truly good Italian food, no waiting for a table, pasta made from scratch, and an all-male waitstaff wearing vests, this is the place for you. The owner (actually partner, along with the owner of the original Capri in Indy) who was a commercial chef in Europe before coming to the States seven years ago, worked for Chicago's Mayor Daley as his personal chef before coming to Granger. The food at this place certainly shows his expertise, and the ambience and waitstaff show the fact that he apparently doesn't know where Granger is on the map. We like that. We like everything about this place, except for the fact that the portions could be just a little bit larger. Especially considering the size of the owner himself. I LOVE Italian food, and had high hopes for Capri. Unfortunately, it was just OK. The restaurant was almost empty at 7:00 on a weeknight, but the host seated us right next to another table. With the "live" room (no carpet or upholstery anywhere), you could easily hear conversations from across the room, and every word the couple next to us said all night. The wine list definitely needs work - there is no indication that there are any wines available by the glass. It only lists bottles and a handfull of half bottles. The bar itself is beautiful and well stocked, but the TVs pointed at the main seating area are very distracting and out of place in a restaurant that is attempting to create an upscale dining experience. The hot bread was delicious, and the butter had a good garlic flavor. Our food was served quickly (perhaps too quickly...), and was decent. There was nothing wrong with either of our dinners, they just didn't impress, and the whole meal seemed rushed. The pricing is fine dining, but the service, ambiance, and food just didn't match up. read more

Wow. I was expecting *so* much more. Saturday night and we were the only patrons there. We counted 9 people on staff, standing around. All of our pasta dishes were overcooked. Really surprised about that. Prices were quite expensive. The sauces were good, but couldn't make up for the overcooked pasta . Again, really surprised that everything was so poorly cooked. Just loved this place. Love the retro black and white photos on the wall, the standards playing in the background, and the food was top notch, although seems a bit pricey for the area. I'm reminded of some of the nicer restaurants I've frequented in larger metropolitan areas. It's sophisticated, interesting, and the setting is upscale, yet not over the top. Our waiter Tony gave us a great experience, interjecting humor into our evening, making it an even more memorable experience. Give this place a test-drive. DE-LISH! If you're looking for wonderful Italian food, definitely make Capri #1 on your list. Went or a special occasion and had wonderful service, but most importantly, the food was divine. I can't rave enough about two of the chicken dishes...one with prosciutto and Fontina and one with sausage and mushrooms. Other diners had Fillet and swordfish special and they all said their meals were delicious. We started off with the stuffed portobello and calamari...not to be redundant, but they were delicious! Beautiful atmosphere makes for a very nice dining experience. Highly recommend ending your dinner with an icy cold lemon cello cream. read more
