HELLO FROM THE ROAD!!!!! I wanted to write this and thank Cappy's for the beautiful dishes they are Top Notch!!! I have been roaming the country in my mercury sable as I have been doing for the last 7 weeks or so. Been going through the southwest mainly. I drove by the meteor crater and it was still light out but they wouldn't let me in because I didn't have a shirt on. Who the heck needs to wear a shirt inside a crater!! By the time I got back to the car and put one on and went back they had already closed and it was late so I got back in the car and kept going with my shirt OFF this time because I was ticked to no end. drove 140 miles with my shirt off last night and I'm still not wearing a shirt even now.. Passed a car at one point that I thought belonged to Thomas my nemesis for 30 years. If you are too young to remember Thomas he thought he would show off during the high school graudation ceremony by driving a big rig truck onto the field where we were having our ceremony to flaunt the fact that he got a job as a truckboy 3 weeks before graduating. Well normally this is fine and good but he drove up while I was on stage and did donuts for 9 or 10 minutes. everyone cheered a lot while I was trapped up there crying my heart out because I thought it was the dead teacher they talked about in the beginning of the ceremony.. Got a "thumbs up" from a strange motorcycle, as well. do not know why yet Cappy's gives you thoughts on the past. Was thinking about the time when all my kids wanted a kitten, so we got one while they were at school and when they came home were playing with it someone was trying to call us to tell us gramma was real bad in the hospital and one of you kept hanging up the phone when they asked for me so we didn't find out for 4 days after everyone else and by the time we found a sitter for the kitten we showed up and she had already died about half a day before.. that was a bad week thanks to that subpar cat which couldnt even stay alive 6 years I might add. Reminds me of how later on when we'd take that hound dog of our aunt's, bring him into my closet and dress him up in my robes and pretend he was me for a little while. We all even had a parade up and down the stairs saying I was a dogdad now. I was fine with it but why did they feed that dog so much dairy if they knew it was gonna get sick all over? that part wasn't like me at all Speaking of which, could a dogdad make ponchos out of trash bags when all my kids wanted to go to the mall during a tropical depresion? oh no I guess that was regular dad evevn though nobody dressed me up in silk robes and fed me several glasses nutritious milk until I finally asked for it. Sad state of affairs. I could best that rotten dog in any test of strength or intellect. quiz me on anything. you think a dog's gonna know what a bud bowl is? or know that bud light only won twice in the entire history of bud bowls? how much do you think a dog can deadlift?? remember how I moved that couch? Does dogdad know what time is? maybe it can tell day from night but can it do math or science or read gossip about hollywood celebs? I'm so fed up with the notion of a dog for a dad and I think everyone have lost sight of the prize, being me and my human body. I would wager that Brian, the owner of Cappy's, has never been compared to a dog parent by his children. I want all kids to know that very early on I looked into the possibilities of male lactation should it become necessary. dogs don't do that. I was in touch with a doctor in sacramento and I could have started at any time. I could even start now if I had to. perhaps I will find a baby out here and lactate for it and maybe IT will consider me a man and then I will push forth the most precious milk from my bosom to nourish it and I will put up flyers saying "found baby, but it's doing ok because I have been lactating for it because I love it and IT LOVES ME BECAUSE I AM NOT A DOG-DAD" GOOD BYE read more

As a mid-20's single guy i am always trying to find my place in the world. Oh sure, i've been all over the place, following typical generation X/Y/Z fashion trends like skateboarding , punk music, guitar playin', grunge rocker--Yep, that was me (regrettably!) I even have a picture of me wearing an abercrombie and fitch hoodie and a pair of jncos from the 7th grade. Oh boy, i've been there, and i have DONE that! That's why it was so disconcerting for me to one day look around me and think, wow, i just don't know who i am. What the hell am i doing in this life? What makes me special? For a rough little minute nothing seemed to fit right. So, one day in a mild centrifuge of existential despair, i took a look around the place where i was--where i have worked for years and made myself a man--and decided that i was very content with where i was, and that in fact, i finally knew myself because of this place. That place was Cappy's Cafe. And it has defined my life! As an employee at said establishment i feel like i have a great authority on the foodstuffs and cocktails that make Cappy's Cafe such a go-getter for young 20-somethings like myself looking to have a good time, be they painting the town red or looking for a night on the prowl. Lord knows i have flirted with my share of ladies one night or another at Cappy's. And i happen to be very assured that i only play the best jams on the jukebox when i have the chance. This license to kill has authorized me to be a card-carrying Cappyite-for-Life. And i can finally say, hey, i'm proud of that. I am damn proud to be here. In addition it's not out of whack to see me there some nights hanging with some of my chill friends, or buds, and just chillaxin like hell with my boys (homeboys that is, heh heh). Hell, it's what i was built for. It really is the coolest place for a night of rambunctious mischief (floor toms, anyone?) or a quiet date spot for the single guy and the single girl before they finally hit the switch and decide to take it home for a little more funkyiness (if you know what i mean! ;) ). As an aficionado in the kitchen, i can assure everyone that this place truly has the best nachos, the best cheesecake (ten(10) times better than philly!!!!), and the best damn mediterranean wrap in the whole world (Ten(10)times better than the medittaeranean, wherever the fuckt hat is!?!?!?!??! ;) ) In conclusion, i'd just like to say that as an american, i think it is part of our civil duty to visit cappy's at least once in our lifetimes. it's sort of like the way mecca is conceived in islamic culture (except tons more chili-cheese fries---if you know what i mean ;) ;) ) I love this place. Fucking love it. I am in love with this place so bad. Man, what a bar. I had been coming to this place since the late 80s when Shadyside was the king. I was a roadie for Rush in 1989 and 1991 during the "Roll the Bones" tour. One night, me and Geddy and some other crapshooters came here one night and he said himself, "Man, this place is alright!" We were jamming, kicking it to some tunes. bumped a line and i remember going home wiht someone that night, thinking "this place is really alright." Some real groovy kids were around at that point. Didn't matter if you had big hair and sunglasses or tattoos all over your body. But that didn't last forever. After that night, things changed... I came back in '96 to Pittsburgh. I lived for a little while in east liberty while i was between Metallica tours, so i didn't check out the shadyside scene very often, and man was i surprised when i finally saw what was there. people wearin tennis outfits all day long with headbands and no balls. I got really confused, because i thought, hey man, this is where my people used to be at. what happened? Shadyside had turned into some bad cat's pajamas and i was not about it. I hadn't really gone back since. Finally, my good bud Neal told me about how Shadyside has turned alright again. He said some real cute girls, all about rock n' roll are hangin' out. But then he said it's only at Cappy's. Cappys! i said. I been there just a couple years ago and it was flathead city, man. And he turned to me with those stone black eyes and said, not anymore, guy. Not anymore. I said to him that i wasn't so sure, Cappy's was real buggin' last time i checked it out. He turned to me and said if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice. Then he said, I will choose a path that's clear, i will choose Cappy's. Cappy's has become the new haven for rock n' roll. I was sitting in there the other night, eating their $2.99 burger special and livin' it up. Some long-haired freaky kid was playing Can and Sabbath and i thought i was going to choke on my burger, man. I haven't rocked that hard since 2112. I work at an accounting firm on the east side of pittsburgh, near a quiet little neighborhood called Shadyside. Where i live (Point Breeze) is raucous and absurd, and at times in becomes a little too much for me. Sometimes i have to go to a place where i feel like i can kick off my shoes and just relax next to people who look like me, talk like me, think like me and maybe even sometimes want go home with me. I consider myself a swinger. I like Cappy's for the clientle and the friendly, open environment. Everyone here seems to be friends. I've never been in a place where i can instantly feel accepted and where everyone seems to want me. Okay! So I'm a flirt. And sometimes i just go a little overboard. But no one at Cappy's seems to mind. I think it's an acceptable place to pick up girls, that is, during Cappyoke which is hosted every Friday night at the place. It's great. I get to sing my favorite hits from the 90's, and if i perform well enough, some Vanilla Ice or Kool Mo Dee, maybe i can take home a floozy. Other times, when i'm not looking for sex, I like to come to Cappy's to eat. Boy oh boy, they have the most delicious dishes in all the city. Their Big fish sandwich is to die for. TOO DIE FOR! The cooks fix everything i have ever had there to perfection. Every philly steak, every philly chicken steak sandwich, & the Cappy's salad-mmm mmm mmm! Even breakfast is a wonderful dream. Cappy's serves breakfast only on Saturday and Sunday mornings. I have started coming in on Sundays lately because some of my lady friends have told me about the glorious breakfast and the hilarious cooks that make the breakfasts there a real joy. They are SO funny. They will sing songs and make jokes, all while making perfect, delicious treats and eats for all of us loyal customers. I do like the wait staff and the bartenders as well, but those cooks, boy oh boy! So if you know you've got an appetite and want to eat it up! Go to Cappy's. Go there right now!!! read more

the earth exploded and on the seventh day a ball of flames incinerated itself into the holy blessing of cappys cafe. it purely is a scintillation, an epiphany ravaged from the sea as beacon in the midst of walnut street. the wing bites animate the ages. the waitresses are shaved angels from the audacious clouds of the heavens above. no one can compare to the regulars for they are gods in their domain. i would give my life for one more, just one more day to be sacrificed on the tabernacle that lies within cappys at the bar, where the long island iced teas just make the mouth water! The cooks are surely men among men. Decisively the most well-suited and domineering young stallions of their day. I have seen the works of the pharaohs, the Colossus at Rhodes and the Pantheon, i have seen the effects of the atomic bomb and the devastation of a thousand wars, but i have never seen diligence and perfection delivered with the same aptitude as the cooks at cappy's who make everything with a flare conceived of divine inception, their pancakes are the most circular, the most scrumptious and undulate in the mouth like a series of sensuous pleasures. Their hot dogs were made from the flesh of the mountains configured into a plaster wet with the decadence it takes to fill the devil's mouth with opulence. for one moment, i saw the holy light enamored on me, a halo of ratification for the soul when i discovered the outstanding and immaculate conceived in the kriss-kross fries. ANd i became a believer. I put down my knife and fork and ate with my hands. I'm not gonna write you a review, 'cause ya asked for it, 'cause ya need one.... Cappy's just deserves it for the stupendous... well, EVERYTHING! I came here twice last week, and let me tell you, it was bumpin'. Not bumpin' in that "street" kind of way, but totally kickin'. The wife was taking care of the kid, so I had two nights to get wild, wet, and wacky- I even did all three plus some more! ;) Only the best in Shadyside come here- no degenerate hussies or drug dealers, like at Shady Grove. That bar was disgusting and perverted, and to top it off, I felt completely unsafe. Luckily, my wallet wasn't stolen the whole night and I sauntered over to Cappy's, where the atmosphere was much less Harlem and a lot more light hearted. I was hungry, so I ordrered a buffalo tender wrap, which was smothered in freshly made hot sauce, blue cheese dressing, and the freshest of vegetables. The service was fast and to the point. Waitresses were great, and the cooks were totally efficient- not to mention sexy AND hilarious (the cooks, not the waitresses). I felt like I was glowing for the rest of the evening. When I got home, my son smiled at me for the first time instead of cowering in fear. What a perfect end to the perfect evening! :) read more

Cappy's is the shining star of Walnut Street. The V.I. Lenin in a sea of overwhelming capitalist didacticism. Great deals, great food, and even great women ; ). As a Gulf War vet, I find myself constantly disillusioned by false representations of the so-called "American Dream," but Cappy's has a what you see is what you get policy- and what I see is absolutely flawless. Whenever I use the jukebox, I constantly kick it to "Gimme Shelter," by the Stones, and "The End," performed by the Doors in their prime. The well priced brews help calm my mild case of PTSD and helps me kick it with the ladies. Phew, and don't get me started on that Cappyoake! Dear god it's a blast! I even had my name dedicated to me in a bizarre rendition of "Heat of the Moment" as sung by some guy I didn't even know! I can't believe this place! Love it!!!!! read more

Cappy's? More like Crappy's. This is by far the worst fucking bar in the city of Pittsburgh. Their bouncers 1. Make terrible fucking drinks that make you want to vomit 2. The staff is so incredibly rude it makes me want to huff paint. I would rather go to hell with Adolph and Saddam then sit for another minute in that bar with these terrible fucking people. The bartender with the red hair is not only rude but looks like she scratches her arm for something stronger. I would recommend going to the Allegheny River, putting cement block on your feet, and going for a night swim. Fuck this damn place. read more
