Tasty Delmonico with sautéed mushrooms. Broccoli is frozen so it's a hard no. Wish I would've selected a different or another side and very bland. Sat at the bar with friendly staff and good music. Reasonably priced Steak is a must! Eastside Gem.

Turkey Club

This little joint is a good spot for nice bite comfort food. There are a variety of options on the menu and a steady but increased flow of cutomers. There were groups and individual customers. Our group had two fried catfish meals, two Philly Cheese Steaks, and Turkey Club. The standard sides range from fries, coleslaw to veggies. The portions are better than most places that squeeze to the smallest portions possible. With that being written, we have a new spot to get our catfish on. Skip the coffee though...lol. Also, nice and professional service.

the The service has declined tremendously. I specifically asked for fresh bread & potatoes and it was hard and cold. The food (salmon, veggies & potatoes) was served on a tray instead of a plate. Extremely disappointed. Bring the old owners back. HURRY!

Broiled cod and Jumbo Shrimp

Can you say steak by the ounce?! Located on Gratiot just south of 8 Mile Rd., Capers has been a neighborhood favorite for years. The space is kind of small and the tables are packed in tight so you can expect to get pretty cozy with the patrons next to you. The area is complete with a full service bar and a salad bar in the back. There is often a wait and they don't take reservations but the food and the prices make it worth it. In addition to the chicken, seafood and pasta entrees they offer huge baked potatoes that can be loaded up how you please. And they are most known for their Cuts of Delmonico (or rib-eye), New York Strip, T-Bone, and Filet Mignon steak by the ounce. So you can order the cut to match your appetite. On most weekdays certain cuts are on special for a discount. My favorite is Friday when there is a cod fish fry which can also be prepared broiled. Add a few of the a la carte jumbo shrimp and you have a winner of a combo. Service is friendly but sometimes drags a little but I chalked it up to how utterly busy the place is always with every table full. One thing can be said and that is that everyone is usually laughing and enjoying themselves which is the general ambiance of the spot. If you want friendly serve, good prices and yummy food check them out.

Honestly, I used to come here for the Monday T-Bone special. Where else can you get a 27 oz steak from a steakhouse for under $40? Usually it's like 30 something dollars and you'll be all set! The steaks come out just like you asked them to, the sides are always good and super big. If you get a potato, expected to feed two people possibly. The worst part about going is waiting at the door to get seated. But I get that because sometimes you just have to make sure you actually have seats for everybody trying to enjoy the same food. I only say that because it's not really any space to wait and you have to sit there, or stand there, and the doorway. But once you sit down you're great! And don't even give me started on the drinks lol! If you don't watch yourself you may be feeling extra good because of those! But this is a HomeTown favor for me. I wish they had one in the city that I'm at now. For the price, you're definitely winning!

Twelve ounce Delmonico... $9.60.

We were quickly seated at the bar, where there is ample seating. Most of the seating at this place appears to be at the bar, which is central to the entire dining area. The lighting is really nice- it's neither too dark or bright. Our bartender Jacob was a class-act in service, being very personable and attentive. We started with the Charred Caesar- tasty, not too heavy, presented well on the plate, and not too heavy either. It was a fun start to our meal. We shared the Gaucho Ribs- they come as 2 8oz short-ribs with plenty of house made salsa and flake salt. The salsa was decent, but I loved combining the rib meat with the delicious charred onion on the plate. The onion was like butter and not something I would've expected to love as much as I did. The cauliflower side as also delightful. I can pull come back for the cauliflower alone. It was large and cooked perfectly in concert with the sauces and other garnishes. Though this place is very expensive, it makes for a great date spot and for a great experience to splurge on.

The place has a sort of industrial feel that didn't lend itself well to a date night. Cocktails run about $16-18 and wines by the glass are $15-20. I had the El Diablo with Joven Tequila, Rescoldo Beet, Amaro, Ginger, Lemon which I thought was good but nothing groundbreaking. Most of their cocktails are riffs on classics. My husband had a glass of wine. To eat, we got the rescoldo beets ($19) which was priced steeply for a simple albeit tasty dish. He got the black rice (Peruvian Bay Scallops, Moqueca Sauce, Preserved Lemon) - $38 and I had the chicken with chimibutter and mustard - $35. Portions for mains were larger than expected. Unfortunately, we weren't wowed by any of the dishes. If I had to order one again, it would probably be the chicken, which was cooked well. We took quite a few leftovers home and honestly barely touched them. It was a pretty big let-down based on how much people rave about Barda. I can't say I would return.

However the real gripe about service was regarding that we brought our kid and the only item on the menu was buttered noodles. That is okay, but after a few bites, even my kid who doesn't know many words informed us it was too oily and stopped eating. We wanted to buy something nearby and bring it back so he could have food, as he wouldn't eat the other items that we ordered. However, after multiple attempts, we were denied outside food or drink, solely for the kid. The restaurant's inflexibility because of their own dish being too oily and buttery, resulting in our kid being mostly hungry for the duration of our dinner . In terms of the dishes we ordered, the taste was unique for some dishes and average for others. We ordered cabbage, beef tartare, seafood pasta, and halibut. Of those dishes, surprisingly, the cabbage was the most flavorful and unique, and we rated it an easy 5 out of 5, as we never knew cabbage could taste so unique and tender. The beef tartare was good, but nothing special, as I think other restaurants serving beef tartare would taste about the same. The seafood pasta was interesting, as it had a slight crisp to it, but other than that, there were just a few pieces of octopus, which made it unique but not overly so. The halibut was tender, I'll give it that, and they prepared it in a unique bean sauce, which was also good and light. But again, nothing that beats halibut that I've had at other restaurants. The ambiance was dimly lit, packed. Plenty of servers and managers walking around. People were obviously well dressed. We sat in a corner, a dark and very cold area, so much so that we needed to put on something heavier. It is not a small dining area. The kitchen you can see on the way to the restroom was bright, well-lit, and open, with plenty of workers and chefs. The plating was pretty good, the service was quick. The food came out pretty quickly as well. However, it is a 1 to 2-hour dining experience. I don't think I would come back, as I don't think the flavor profile, service, and ambiance matched my expectation of this commonly noted number one restaurant in Detroit.

We had 2 couples and they customized the menu for us based on our likes and dislikes. We got 5 courses starting with appetizers, followed by pasta (which I forgot to get photos of), then sides, entrees and dessert. Plus a little aperitif to start the meal off. Zero complaints about any of the dishes. My favorite dish was probably the artichokes and the steak. So delicious! The atmosphere at the restaurant was very fun and modern. And our server was very knowledgeable and helpful when we had questions about the dishes. The meal continually went downhill from the first appetizers to the end. Started to go downhill when we had to pastas as a third course. They both tasted the same and were extremely salty. This was followed up by the smallest saddest toughest steak that I've ever seen in my life. Was extremely disappointed at this point in the menu. The dessert tasted worse than disappointment. We saw everyone by us getting pistachio ice cream other dessert that looked great. We got peach tomato ice cream, with a dry dusty cake that tasted like powder. Great service from the waitress though. Very knowledgeable and attentive so we still gave her a good tip. I think that the chef's tasting menu is just an angle to overcharge you for mediocre homemade Italian food. It's under the guys of they ask you questions to cater to you and the taste of the people at your table. The questions are so general and ambiguous. It doesn't really hone in on what your actual taste are. Haven't left a restaurant feeling like I've been robbed and wasted my money in a while. The main course made White Castle looks like a Michelin 2 Starr restaurant. Won't go back and would not recommend. To cap off the evening we took that weird raw steak thing that they gave us is our main course home in a doggy bag for our dogs. Our dogs usually go nuts about any meat whether it's lunchmeat, grilled ribs, or even the fat trimmed from the edge of the steak. This meat was so weird and bad that two of our dogs took it from her hand, went around the corner and poked at it and sniffed at it before trying to eat it. One of the two dogs spit it out and the other one left it. I've had steaks and beef at hundreds of restaurants over the years and can always identify what it is by how the piece of meat looks and how it is prepared. This was like mystery meat, very, very, very disappointed and feel robbed.

The second you walk down those stairs, you're transported into this dark, moody, speakeasy-style atmosphere. The vibes are IMMACULATE. Then there was a man and a woman singing and playing the piano live, and I am not exaggerating when I say I genuinely thought the music was coming through the speakers for the first 30 MINUTES. THAT is how good they were. I didn't even realize it was live music until I spotted them and was like, OH MY GOD. The ambiance, the service, the entire experience was incredible. NOW, THE FOOD. This steak has officially taken the spot on my list of the BEST STEAKS I HAVE EVER HAD. I've had steaks at some seriously nice restaurants, and this one absolutely blew me away. One of my friends thought it was too salty, so obviously flavor is subjective, but personally, I thought it had the most incredible flavor and I was obsessed with it. Everything else we ordered was phenomenal, too. The lobster bisque? Amazing. The lump crab? Amazing. I genuinely have ZERO complaints about the food here. Everything from the atmosphere to the live music to the service and the food was just absolutely perfect. This is one of those restaurants that makes the entire dinner feel like an EXPERIENCE, not just a meal. I would recommend this place to anyone, and I cannot wait to come back. We arrived on this misty evening around 8pm, into the dim, candlelit space with upbeat music playing. We were asked promptly if we had a reservation-- did not, so we were promptly seated at the counter, across from the bar-- which was actually less crowded than the section on the floor with tables. Onto the food, I had fries that were nicely salted, and covered in a curry spice. They were decent but nothing spectacular. I would also describe my burger this way. The best part of it was the perfectly toasted and buttery bun-- but I find it overconfident to serve a burger without any toppings-- just a sauce that was apparently blended with pickles that I couldn't really taste. The burger was seasoned well enough...plenty of pepper, but it was all one texture, I didn't pick up any searing or anything to make the texture less one note. I asked my server for extra sauce, mustard, and ketchup to make it better. My friend recommended this spot specifically for the burger so I'm willing to say, I just ordered the wrong thing maybe. Onto the desert, the corn tiramisu caught my eye as something unique to try and it was truly an experience. It made me laugh out loud cause it was strange unexpected food experience in both flavor and presentation, I enjoyed it, but wouldn't order it again persay. It came out in a little whipped pile covered in cornflakes with green jalapeño jelly. I appreciated the richness and that it wasn't too sweet-- but overall I'd enjoy it more if it was presented more neatly, and there was a bit more spice on the plate to cut through said richness, although to their the deep sweet and earthy flavored of jalapeños was captured perfectly in the gel.

The restaurant was getting full by 6pm, so having a reservation is probably best. We finally got a chance to eat here and decided on the Tasting Menu ($95/pp, the whole table has to have it) because a lot of the dishes were items we were already looking at. We started off with some drinks, all the drinks were well balanced and not too sweet-perfect. For Tequila: Good Behavior & (Mezcal): Better Off Red were super delicious. Note for the tasting menu (for the 2 of us), they plated 1 dish per course so just note that you do not each get a separate plate so I'm assuming the portions are double (although I wonder what they do for a single person and the whole trout...). I guess it's nice to share a plate so my hubby could enjoy more food but seems like a lot of plates and silverware getting used/changed with each course so it makes me wonder why each person doesn't just get their own portion. Anyway, first course: I don't really like scallops, but these scallops was cool, refreshing with a very mild scallop flavor so I really enjoyed it! Second: tomato tart with goat cheese +heirloom tomatoes salad (very good), Third: Ricotta Gnocchi (YUM), a lot of pancetta pieces, Fourth: Whole trout (the chef removed 95% of the bones, yay, loved that. It was pretty mild taste which was overall good, I liked all the different mushrooms that came with it & Last: Banana Split- feels healthy with the banana there and wow, the cherries look like Luxardo ones. Honestly, this was a good amount of food (I wasn't overly stuffed thankfully but full). I would definitely recommend the Tasting Menu (note, no modifications/subs allowed) and was glad we ordered it. The pacing was not hurried (we were not in a rush), but they can definitely accommodate (bring 2 courses out at a time), if you need to be somewhere by a certain time for a show or game. They also have a free parking lot (fenced in)! We will most definitely be back, it was an amazing night at Bar Pigalle!
