We had the chefs menu. We had a nice variety of things. Great flavors, the food was well balanced with great textures. the staff was friendly and easy to talk to.

What an incredible night! I made reservations in advance since it's was my husband's birthday and our first time at Marrow. We found street parking. We were near downtown Detroit so it was a breath of fresh air not to pay for parking. Once we got to the restaurant, we checked in and were greeted by the host and bar team members. They immediately acknowledged my husband's birthday too. Once we were seated, we were offered a complimentary Prosecco toast which we accepted. The server acknowledged my husband's birthday too. I love that! The experience is so important to me! For dinner, we went with the chef's taste since we were newbies. It's $90/person and it gives you a nice taste of multiple items. Our tasting included the following: 1. MI Beef Carpaccio - made with blueberry vinaigrette, cheddar, and toasted hazelnuts. Beautiful presentation and flavors. My only comment, it would have been nice with bread or crackers 2. Gazpacho Verde - cucumber, crème fraiche, herb oil, and roe. Fresh way to start off our meal. 3. Stuffies - littleneck clam, nduja, peppers, and lemon butter. This was one of my favorite snacks! 4. Fried green tomatoes - house made pimento cheese, tomato jam, and chow chow. Delicious! 5. Roasted sea scallops - made with creamed corn, marinated tomatoes, and chorizo vinaigrette. A little spicy but flavors on point 6. Michigan beef - made with charred eggplant, smoked tallow, stone fruit, and a blistered pepper. The cut of beef was hanger and cooked medium rare unless you ask for the steak to be prepared differently. 7. Warm summer cobbler - made with mixed berries, peaches, and sweet corn ice cream. Everything just explodes in your mouth! 8. Birthday treat - peach sour cream ice cream with sprinkles, a chocolate happy birthday sign, and gold candle! Truly a great experience. The restaurant is a butcher shop, bar, and restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining. The patio is dog friendly too. We enjoyed indoor seating right by the window. Love the vibe, natural colors with lots of greens. Everyone was so friendly. The space is small and you will be asked to move to the bar if the next reservation is there. They ask kindly after your meal is finished.

Went to a special seafood boil outside. Started with hush puppies with a crab dipping sauce which was a crowd pleaser. Following came Atlantic oysters. Main course (see photo) was huge with extra large shrimp, mussels, crab legs, clams and crawfish. Everything was fresh and a picnic style ensued. The sauces were hit and miss. The cocktail sauce was not the usual ketchup and horseradish, but a variation of I don't know what. The drawn butter with cajun spice was the crowd pleaser. Desert was either a hollow ween or seabed motif. The dessert consisted of chocolate mousse with ground up Oreo cookie and gummy bears simulating worms. Very attentive servers. An enjoyable summer evening. My pet peeve was watching an employee using the same cloth to wipe the chair seats and table top.

Heard good things so I had to try it. We had a reservation but I would for sure sit at the bar if I come in again. Started with the Marrow which came with an onion jam and was really nice. For dinner had the smoked duck that came with a pureed mashed potato which was absolutely amazing. My friends had a ribeye and a flat iron steak. Overall everything was outstanding. They have a market also and bought some ground beef to go. For sure will be coming back.

Celebrated NYE at Marrow with friends and had the best time! It was my first time trying caviar and I actually loved it so much. The bone marrow here is always a favorite--so rich and delicious. Fun atmosphere, great service, and just an awesome way to ring in the new year. Definitely coming back!

I'd been to Marrow once for lunchtime and this time returned for dinner. There are some really good dishes like the mushroom dumplings. I also tried rabbit and the butchers pick which I can't remember exactly what it was (a steak of some sort)... both were fine. Drinks were okay too. The service was good and the servers were friendly. It is pretty expensive, I don't know if I can say it's worth paying a ton of money but do try once.

Ok! I know it shouldn't be an issue but we decided to go to Marrow in west village because we liked what we saw on the menu on the Marrow website. We were promptly seated and ordered cocktails but then we noticed nothing we were excited about on the website menu was actually on the menu!! I know they change their menu often and I love the food but please either change it on the website or don't put any menu on the website. Now back to my food lol the Butchers cut ( Ribeye) was amazing and perfectly cooked, it cut Like butter, the bone marrow snack was the best I ever had and the service was great as usual. The atmosphere is always hopping! 5 stars except for the website menu lol. PS please put the burger back on the dinner menu sometimes people just want a great burger for dinner!

We had the chef's tasting menu and found the dishes spotty, mostly in terms of composition. We love scallops with any kind of bacon or pancetta, but this scallop dish was overwhelmed by the other flavors, leaving the scallop behind. The corn served as part of the dish was the best thing on the plate. We had a similar response to another dish that felt equally poorly composed. We got the beverage pairing with our tasting menu which we also found oddly coordinated with the food. Normally we love a beverage pairing and always sip our drink first, then try it again after taking a bite of the accompanying dish to see how one enhanced the other. Time after time we found the pairing to be poor choice with the dish. Strange. I know this place has been nominated multiple times for James Beard awards, but it feels like it's either trying too hard or just a bit lost. Hard to tell from one visit.

We went for lunch so I could get the Smashburger. The lunch counter is quite small. You eat at the bar and they don't take reservations. The bartender seemed a bit overwhelmed and seated us quickly, but then didn't take our order for quite some time. The drinks were very good, though. We had a couple mocktails - the espresso and a grapefruit one. Both were absolutely delicious. The burger was amazing - one of the best smash burgers I've ever had. The meat was super flavorful and it was saucy with a soft bun. I would absolutely return for that. The french fries were perfectly cooked. I really really enjoyed those too. They were not an afterthought. My husband got the steak sandwich. I didn't love it, but he really enjoyed it. I felt there were too many fighting flavors. We also got some of the house made lamb kafta to take home and that was really good the next day.

Went to marrow for the first time and did the tasting menu. I loved the background our server shared on the sustainable, no waste values. All the dishes had complex flavors of acid, sweetness and savory. Meats were cooked perfectly. Definitely on the higher end price point but worth it once in a while.

Fantastic dinner & fantastic service (as always). We had potato croquettes, charcuterie, tuna crudo, skirt steak, monk fish, cavatelli, duck baklava, & my personal favorite, the mushroom dumplings. Complimentary rhubarb sorbet for the birthday boy was a hit! Love this place so much...:However, it is a cell phone dead zone....so if you're on call, have teenagers, a cell phone addiction, or legitimately need to be reachable, proceed with caution. If you want to be present & live in the moment....perfect!!

Really great. Highly recommend. Great atmosphere, service and food. Had a 14 oz ribeye and it was delicious. Farm to table so the menu always changes. On street parking and they have a small lot. 20 cars. The have a10 seat bar. Gets busy. Probably need reservations.

Consistently top tier lunch experience! Someday I'll stop ordering the mushroom dumplings (when they stop making them??) but that butter corn on the bottom sends it over the top Truly appreciate the NA drinks- you can add liquor if you want but the bartender is shaking this like any other quality cocktail- that alone brings me back This time I ordered the baklava donut- I wish there was someone with me to eat the other half- almost killed me not to finish it all- clever clever dessert (tho it's the only thing I've had there that wouldn't order again just bcuz of price- little high) You have to taste this at least once tho! They struggle with a full bar and just one person working that area, esp if there are ppl standing at the tables behind so bring your patience - you really want to enjoy every moment of this food- it's not the type of food you rush through anyway

The cocktails are creative, beautifully presented, and perfectly balanced. You can tell there's serious thought behind every ingredient. Whether you're into something bold and spirit-forward or smooth and refreshing, they nail it. The food matches the energy of the bar. Every dish feels curated, flavorful, and plated with care. Downtown Detroit definitely feels different now, and the crowd has shifted a bit, but none of that took away from what The Standby is. That alleyway magic is still there. Walking in honestly felt like a little blast from the past, and it made me really happy. It ended up being a highlight of my trip home. The food was phenomenal. The crab was so buttery, the waffle situation was amazing, and the overall execution across the menu was impressive. We ordered a lot, basically half the menu and everything hit. * Short rib plate: delicious, rich, and comforting * Chicken schnitzel with curry mustard: WOW. Juicy, crunchy, fresh, perfectly seasoned. The curry mustard was everything, and that little pepper on top? 10/10. This was hands down my favorite dish. * Drinks: They had brand ambassadors for Wild Turkey, giving out free Old Fashioneds, which was honestly the perfect touch. We also had a small ounce pour of a mezcal that was beautifully smoked, super aromatic and smoky in the best way. Service was great too, we had two different servers, and both were attentive and kind. The only miss for me personally was the pastrami salmon toast. I wanted to love it so badly because I love salmon and I love smoked fish, but it just wasn't for me. I actually sent it back (which I felt bad about). I think the slight sweetness, (possibly from the tomato jam)threw it off for my palate. I was craving something fully savory with a bit of acidity. I think a thicker, crunchier toast and a more umami-forward, citrusy or pickled element might have taken it where it needed to go. That said, I know pastrami-style salmon is a thing right now, it just didn't work for me. Everything else? Truly amazing. The Standby will forever be a place I come back to when I'm home. I'm excited to return, see what's new on the menu, and relive that magic again. Highly recommend. 10 out of 10. Will absolutely be back.

Lauren took great care of us and encouraged us to order whatever we were craving. Dangerous advice, but we happily accepted . Warning - the ratings are real. They're not a mistake. We started with our usual cocktail, the Instant Karma (5/5). It is the perfect balance of citrus and salt with a light cucumber note. Clean, refreshing, and it pairs well with everything. The roasted sweet potato (6/5) is one of the best vegetable dishes in the city. The caramelized exterior gives way to a soft interior, and the crispy quinoa adds a subtle light crunch that plays against the creamy texture. The salsa macha brings a smoky, nutty depth without the heat, and the crema ties it all together. I had to physically stop myself from scraping the plate (actually they had to take it away ). The tagliatelle (5/5) with beef bolognese and parmesan was flawless. The pasta has that ideal handmade chew, and the bolognese is rich without being heavy. The parmesan blends perfectly into the sauce and stands out in every bite. The potato pierogi (10/5) were the star of the night. Soft potato-filled pillows with horseradish crema, apple, and crispy shallot pieces create this perfect sweet, tangy, creamy, and crunchy bite. Each forkful felt intentional and balanced. I felt guilty, because in my head, I didn't want to share with my wife, but I did anyways . The cruelty of having to split an odd number of pierogis...well played...we should have just ordered another one. We also ordered the smoked potatoes and the pan roasted half chicken with sauce au poivre (always 5/5 for both) The smoked potatoes, with raclette, and crème fraîche, are always a must. These winter variation was just as good! The chicken remains one of the most consistently well-executed mains in the city. I have tried recreating it at home with the cold pan method and it never comes close. Every time we dine here, it feels like four or five different dinner experiences in one evening. Selden Standard continues to set the bar for us in Detroit. We love the staff, the food, and the memories tied to this place. Cheers to many more amazing years to come!

My husband surprised me with a birthday dinner here, and I'm glad that we got to experience it. We arrived in advance of our reservation and grabbed a seat at the bar. The bartender brought us a glass of wine while we waited. It took about a half hour, but we were shown to our table for the night and promptly greeted by our server. All of the food looked amazing, both on the menu and with what people were ordering at other tables. We chose a variety of dishes - cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, squid ink orecchiette, octopus, mushrooms, and scallops. I would recommend all of them, but the standouts for me were the Brussels sprouts and the scallops. Flavors were unique and textures were especially on point with those dishes. Service was good, but we both felt like it was slow. There was a slight glitch in the beginning of the night where the host stand didn't mark that we had checked in when we actually had, which probably contributed to the half hour wait at the bar. Aside from those points, it was an impeccable night!
