So this past week I was like I am finally going to get out and get my hair cut and get my nails done !!! So I found Capello's and I'm so happy I did. I also found my new salon expert Shannon to make me feel comfortable and happy to try out a new cut and nail color. I definitely recommend her and tell her I told you to recommend her for your appointment you won't be disappointed!!! As a teacher I don't get much time to get stuff done on my break but wow she makes it happen and it's awesome!!! I'm writing this review and it is crossposted until a member of their team reaches out with a resolution. We have attempted to contact the management team 3 times to speak with them regarding services rendered for a Bridal party on October 7th and have not heard back from anyone. Our expectations with a salon of this caliber, especially for a Bridal group with 11 people was to at least have a decent time spending time together with the bride. They were called and told well enough in advance that we were coming as a member of the party had to put a deposit down. At first we found it odd that we walked in to hardly any seating other than the salon chairs that are built into the area and the seating at the desks. Us having to move every time someone was getting their nail done. Extra seating wasn't brought into the location until the majority of us had completed our manicures. While our flower girls were typical little girls running around and having a good time, we should have known that this was a bad choice when they had to repaint multiple nails because the polish had simply.. fallen off. We got our own drinks from a local coffee shop, nothing was provided (which in their defense, not sure if they offer this, but in my experience upscale salons usually offer at least water). Fast forward to the actual nails. This was the absolute worst manicure and pedicure experience that a majority of the bridesmaids have ever had. I personally had multiple blemishes and smudges and all around inconsistencies in the nails before I even left the shop. One of my toes has an indention where it can physically be bent in the middle of the nail. My previous pedicures have never done this. One bridesmaid had her cuticle cut and the tech continued to use the dip in the container. There was no indication that the powder container was disposed of when she was finished. This was after she had explained to the tech that she had previously gotten cut before... As we were going back to the hotel, multiple people noticed what a bad job it was. One person had chipped nails before we even got to the hotel room. We have pictures and time stamps to back up up these claims as most of us had issues before we even got to the wedding and god forbid they did not last through the reception into the next day. At approximately $92 per person, this is insane that these manicures did not last even through the reception. Most of the girls also had GEL polish. Which, from my understand should last for more than three days. I went on vacation after with half polished nails. We could deal with the seating, the techs were nice enough, but the product does not fit with what they charge AT all. If this is something you are hoping to make into an experience for your wedding party, what they offer is not worth the money. We are attempting to come to a solution to the issues by calling, filling out the form on their website and also leaving this review in hopes that the owner/manager or someone can resolve this experience. When you are spending over $1,000 on a service for a wedding party, this should not be happening at all. My local nail salon charges $56 and you get a lot more than what was charged for. Included are pictures and I can time stamp them should they need it. I will continue to call the location until there is a resolution. read more

Absolutely terrible experience. I don't normally put a business on blast, things happen, but we've tried calling multiple times to come to a resolution and the owner has ignored my sister in law for over 2 weeks. We made an appointment for a bridal party of 11 (9 adults and 2 children) to get manicures and pedicures and this cost us over $1000. Absolutely a rip off but made even worse by the quality of service we were given. The technicians were all nice enough but most of us had gel manicures done and they were all chipped before the end of the weekend, some girls had chips that night at my rehearsal dinner. The children had to be touched up before we even left because the polish was peeling off. Not chipping, just peeled right off. The tech doing my pedicure was unable to do my gel manicure on my fingers. She prepped them (or so I thought) but the tech who ended up doing my fingers re-did it anyways. My friend who was doing a dip manicure had her cuticle nicked and the tech used the dip powder on her still. Personally that concerns me for my friend because she could have gotten an infection, and I'm not sure they threw that dip out. The floors are filthy, some of us had new flip flops that were covered in black dirt by the time we left. No refreshments were offered. I have been to salons where I've been offered at least a bottle of water and got arm and neck massages (in addition to having actual massaging chairs) and paid a fraction of the price and had a better lasting manicure. It seems like they wanted to capitalize on people wanting everything done at once (hair, nails, etc) but I feel like the techs aren't good at doing nails. read more

I booked a couple days ago for the Deal 1. I am from out of town coming into Buffalo for the first time next week. I was excited about getting to do some kind of spa service as it is my first time to travel this far from Oklahoma! I chose the Deal 1 not knowing what it was. So I saw on Facebook a deal 1 for a mani pedi. I know it was last months deal but I didn't understand it changed frequently since I'm not from there. I called last night, this morning, faceboook messaged and emailed to try to cancel because I realized I did today and not next week for my trip!!!! The ladies were completely rude, did absolutely nothing to possibly rebook me, at least give me half credit since I tried to do something relaxing for my trip and messed up. I don't expect special service but not one lady tried to work with me or even cares about anything I had to say. I can see why the salon doesn't have high stars because their customer service is awful. If all people are like this out there This is definitely a sad world. Such rude rude women working in that salon and I hope if other people have an experience like this maybe they will try to work with you and hopefully they can work on customer service. My nails look like an inexperienced 12-year old did them. A couple friends and I made appointments to have our nails done at Capello the day of our friend's wedding (we were all in from out of town). I have to say, this was the worst nail job I've ever had and am ashamed I paid for it. I should have complained on the spot, but was in a rush to get to the wedding. You can see through to my nail with all the streaks, paint on my cuticles and skin, paint not to the edges, etc. Horrible. What made it worse, is that it's a gel manicure. One of my colleagues was so horrified by it, she came to work with her own supplies and took it all off (thanks, Sarah!). I tried calling the salon the Tuesday following my appointment (they're closed Sun & Mon), left a message with the receptionist that I wanted to talk to the manager and she said I'd get a call back by the end of the day. Yikes, yikes, yikes. Don't let the hotel setting fool you into thinking this is a nice salon. I got a standard-issue cosmetology school haircut which had no regard for the texture or quality of my hair, let alone the shape of my face. The ends of the layers were noticeably choppy and not blended in - no movement whatsoever. To add insult to injury, I was styled with a Cheektowaga bouffant that just left me feeling sad as I paid the $60 plus tip price tag. Please note that all of the above observations come from someone with absolutely no hair care or cutting experience, and yet I am still able to identify all of these injustices. However, perhaps the biggest injustice of all is that I had to make an appointment at another salon for the next week in order to fix the literal chop job received at Capello. read more

I will NEVER go back. The first time I went here for a massage, I was cancelled on after I already came in for my appointment and waited and then was told I should have called before coming in. Fine. Went back a couple more times because I had a gift certificate to there - got manicure and pedicures, which both sucked but I kept telling myself that it's just a couple times and it will get better. Well it sure did not. I went back on a Monday 4:10PM appointment. The girl that did my nails was super sweet. I got the "dip powder gel." Less than 40 hours later, ALLLL of my dip powder gel came off (attached in picture). I called Capello Downtown to tell them what happened and if I can speak with the manager and get a quick gel manicure to fix this (I had an event during the weekend). Well sure be hold, I called back several times asking to speak to the manager but gave up and just asked for a quick gel manicure to fix this because I have no time for anything else. The lady I spoke with said I can come in for a gel manicure but it would cost me 35$ plus any additional $ to take off the rest of my dip powder gel. I paid 51$ for a dip powder gel manicure PLUS left a 10$ tip - in total it was 61$ I spent. Once I told them I will never come back after all the money I spent and they would not fix my nails, they called to tell me they can now do it, which at this point was too late because I went somewhere else to get my nails fixed. A few days later I called to get a refund for the horrible manicure and how it ruined all my nails. I called several times just to get a hold of the manager. I asked for a refund and she said no. She said I have to go to the location, get my nails assessed, and then they can do a gel manicure or redo my dip powder gel. I proceeded to tell her I do not ever want to go back there and just want my money back - she hung up the phone on me. Side note - the nail salon I actually went to get my nails fixed at, the lady who did my nails said that she worked for Capello Downtown and it was horrible. Allegedly, the manager is brutal to her employees, the spa is never busy, the products are not good, etc. Lesson learned - do not go here again. read more

They went through a bit of a rough patch with manicurist but they have amazing ones now. I also get me hair done by Laurie- I highly recommend her, especially if you are like me and have no idea what you want done. I was in Buffalo a couple of weeks ago to visit an old friend. I decided to get a last minute haircut and found Capello Salon online while I was walking around. I decided to give it a shot. The salon in located in downtown Buffalo inside the Embassy Suites Hotel on Delaware Ave. on the second floor. I was a walk-in, and they were able to accommodate me. The cut I received from Mitch is great, and likely one of the top 5 cuts I've ever had. He did a super job from the greeting, then the shampoo, cut, and finally the style. Thanks Mitch. Good work. For 30 bucks, a true bargain. In Boston this type of quality cut would have cost me $50+. This guy knows his way around a head with a pair of scissors. Capello Salon loses a star because of the professionalism. Mitch was a pro, however, other employees/stylists were casually lounging on styling chairs doing their own hair while clients were in the salon, and others employees were walking around clutching cell phones and texting.( a big pet peeve of mine). I was an out of state bride looking for somewhere to get hair and make-up done for my downtown Buffalo wedding. It was a nerve wracking process finding somewhere to go but I am satisfied with the results given that it rained the whole day. At first I was nervous that I had made the right choice because each time I called to make appointments the girl on the phone was vague and seemed confused by my requests. However, when I went in for my practice run Gina was able to re-create the look that I wanted and was able to make the appropriate changes on the wedding day due to the inclement weather. All of my girls looked great through rain and dancing. I even had family members that walked in morning of the wedding and they were fit into the schedule. One of the stylists (I didn't catch her name) allowed my mom to bring in her own brushes and some makeup, which eased my mom's nerves of not having had a test run. My only complaint was that due to their flexibility in doing hair for family one of my bridesmaids had to wait until they were served, which made getting dressed for the wedding a little rushed. read more

I went to Capello as I had a gift certificate for a hair cut and style and a manicure. The gc had 3 locations listed on it (one that no longer exists) and the brochure of services that was included with the gc had 4 locations on it, one of which was the downtown location on Franklin. So I made my appointment online for that location. Online booking was easy (no reminder call or email which I thought was weird). When I arrived my gc was questioned because that Capello's isn't affiliated with all the other ones. Well, then your location shouldn't be listed with all the other ones on that brochure. That is very confusing for the customer. In addition, I found out later that the owner used to work for the other Capello's group of salons and branched out on her own but bought the rights to the name. Why buy the rights to the name if you don't want to be affiliated with them? That makes no sense to me but to each his own I guess. Either way, they were nice about it and honored it. Salon is centrally located and very clean/stylish. Manicure was good; basic. Utensils were pulled from a fresh package. Usually I've experienced longer hand/finger massage and a warm soak for your hands - I didn't get that here. Associate was nice, friendly (can't recall her name - something makes me want to say Stephanie?). I proceeded to my cut and style. Stephen was extremely friendly and nice. He asked what I wanted done and I said a trim, maintain the length and that I have some long layers. I was headed to a wedding that evening so I asked for a beach wave style. He washed my hair - very thorough and relaxing. I liked the products. Trimmed while wet and explained he'd dry it and do the layers dry. After blowout/drying with round brush, he asked if I liked it and proceeded to take my cape off and I was done. He didn't do any layers and didn't curl/style my hair! Other than the ends looking freshly cut, my hair felt like I flat ironed it myself. I was rather disappointed. He told me about the products he was using and why. They all sounded nice but I could tell he was clearly trying to upsell. I know that's what they try to do an, yes, I might explore purchasing some of them. I think I was just sad for not getting what I expected. I know I had a gc for free services but that's a way to introduce me to your salon to see if I want to return or not. Sadly I don't think I will. I did tip nicely esp because the services were free for me. When she made the appointment, she told them several times that she had a wedding to attend and couldn't stay more than an hour. After waiting 40 minutes and asking several times about when they would be ready, she dried up her feet (they had left her to soak her feet the whole time) and told them she had to go. I went to this salon for a simple hair trim, since it's conveniently located. I made my appointment days in advance, but my stylist (the owner.. I think her name is Lily) was over 30 minutes late to seat me. Come to find out, her client right before me was the reason she was so late, and this client continued to sit in the chair next to mine during my appointment. The entire time, the client and owner of the salon were chatting. Most of the time it was without acknowledging me, not even to ask if what she was doing with my hair was okay. When I went to pay for the appointment, there was a small sign on the card reader that tips cannot be paid via card. They conveniently have an ATM machine in the salon, so I made a comment that I had to use it for the tip. I took out the minimum $20 and stood waiting at the front desk for change for about 5 minutes. But the owner was not anywhere in sight. unprofessional and inexperienced! i wanted to get my hair done right and was willing to pay for a professional, flawless job. WRONG! i've had my hair cut better at Supercuts! I figured in the avant, fancy, nice, and almost $50 for a haircut,! i thought i couldnt go wrong. all the girls in here were like 22 yrs old, receptionist on her cell when i came in, and my hairstylist said she knows exactly what i want from explaining it to her. well, she gave me everything i didnt want! techniques were not current there, it was half ass styled and she had to make corrections to the cut a couple times and still, its not what i wanted at all. this experience has weakened by belief in "you pay for what you get". so expensive and i am now going to try somewhere else to give me what i want. dont be fooled like i was that this place will give you a great cut and styling. after all the years this name has been around, i cant believe they are still surviving! read more

This review is regarding the BUFFALO AVANT HAIR SALON. HORRIBLE! I was in a wedding last weekend and was told that most of the bridal party were having their hair done here. So I decided that I would give it a try. I have curly hair. Naturally curly, waist length thick hair. I'm puerto rico. I would never recommend this salon to anyone with curly or ethnic hair. Do not even think about it.First off all, I was told to arrive with Clean Dry hair, and I did. the first thing the stylist did when she sat me down in the chair was to basically finger comb out all of my natural curl. WHICH IS A BIG NO NO. You never brush or finger comb dry curly hair. If that huge pouffy mess wasn't enough, she then began to RECURL my hair with a wand, in an attempt to reduce the amount of frizz through out the day. (HUH?!) Dont let the location fool you this salon is full of inexperienced newbie stylists, who have no idea what they are doing. After about 15 mins, I was fed up. I had a horrible rats nest of hair, not exactly what I wanted for my Best Friends Wedding. I stood up and told the stylist that i was not happy with the way my hair was turning out, it was a frizzy mess BEFORE i even left the salon, and I had to look my best the day of my friends wedding. Not to mention that had I let the stylist finish the look, the price would've been $75 PLUS a tip. I dont think so. I also wanted to note that these Stylists FRIED my hair, and I was left with horrible brittle ends that had to be cut, I have never had such brittle hair in my life. I dont use heat in my hair at all, and this was an over all bad experience I went to another local salon, was able to get a last minute appointment, paid $45 and had amazing hair that was silky shiny and frizz free all day. i came to capello downtown on a whim, to have an at home cut shaped up. i'm so glad they could accommodate me. my stylist, steven, is incredible. he's kind, funny and agreeable. he gave me exactly what i needed and styled my hair perfectly. helping me out in a pinch, they've gained a new client. i trust steven 100 percent with my hair and plan to be in regularly. I've been a client at Capello's for about 2 years, and I have had nothing but great experiences each time I've been in the salon. I live in Chicago and always make sure I can schedule an appointment during my trip home. Heather Bordonaro is by far one of the best stylists in Buffalo! She has an amazing knowledge of color and style. I receive nothing but compliments on my cut and color each time I walk out of the salon. I came for a bachelorette party and the place was very nice and accommodating and gave us the side room to set up a mimosa bar and snacks. There were about 9 girls total all getting pedicures. The workers were very nice but the pedicure was honestly the worst and most expensive one I've ever had. It was chipping by the end of the night. $54 for a pedicure was not worth the money at all, even for the nice ambiance of the salon. read more

Mediocre cut and style; not worth the money. They (manager and stylist) barely acknowledged our existence. Too busy talking to each other and catering to the demanding, ultra self-absorbed customer who had seemingly not one starched hair out of place. I would have expected these sorts of attitudes from the suburbs, but in this case, it was quite the opposite. Does not compare to the Williamsville location which has always been outstanding. I moved back to Buffalo recently after living in New York and Boston for 20 years. So when someone gave me a $75 gift certificate to Capello, I thought, great -- cheap haircut and maybe I'll find a longterm stylist in my new city. The cut and color were fine, and the stylist was nice and easy to talk to. But when I went to check out, I was shocked to hear that a cut with color and highlights is $158; add a 20 percent tip, and you're up to $189. Seriously? I've periodically tried haircuts in this price range -- on Madison Ave. in NY I paid $300, and while searching for the right place in Boston I tried several on pricey Newbury St. I learned that spending a ton of money does not necessarily give you better looking hair. I eventually found a good, low-priced stylist in New York, and one Boston who worked out of a salon her father started in the 1950s. It was a very townie place where you were likely to hear "he's wicked smaht" at least once during every visit and the local gumbas would drop in to say hello and gossip, but my cuts and color were always great. Cost: $55, for both. Plus she'd charge me wholesale price for an expensive product I like. Capello is perfect for the insecure. read more

NEW LOCATION ON FRANKLIN!!!!!!!! CAPELLOS DOWNTOWN MOVED! DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON/SPA! THE WORST OF THE CAPELLOS CHAIN! My husband recently purchased a 1 day spa package that included Facials, Manicures and Massages for my self and 2 of my girlfriends. I was a let down in almost all aspects. It did not live up to the Capellos experience in Williamsville that I have had in the past. Here is what you can expect. Our appointments were for 1pm as a reference 1) The salon was very cold and the staff was not very welcoming when we arrived. 2) We were never offered any coffee, water, etc at any time during our visit. My girlfriend even asked for coffee and was told " No we don't have any, and then they didn't offer anything else. While getting our services the staff working on us would excuse themselves to get water, but never even offered us any. And the main water jug, that in other locations has lemon or herbed water for all to use, was empty! 3) We were never offered slippers at all and told to just go barefoot or wear our socks??!!! 4) Only 2 of us were given a robe. My girlfriend was told there were no more robes and she had to take her clothes on and off. 5) We were told there were towels in the changing room, however the only towels were a pile of used dirty towels and no clean towels were available. When we asked/complained we got 1 towel and they seemed annoyed. 6) The entire spa was freezing, and we even commented on how cold it was, again , NO CHANGE. 7) And to top all this off my husband sent them an email after hearing that his $ was wasted and got a call back from Lisa the Manager/Owner who apologized and asked for me to call her to discuss and she wanted to make it right. I have called her 3 times for over a week with no return calls and actually had her answer the phone the last time in which I could hear her or people talking and then she hung the phone up! So if the Manager/Owner doesn't care what does that say about the staff or salon experience. To be fair we all agreed that the massage therapist was good. However we were looking forward to this as a girls relaxing day that my husband got me. It was not a cheap experience and they assured my husband when he booked with them that they could handle it in the usual Capellos manner. They were glad to take his $ and in return we got a below average to unacceptable experience. How can you possibly enjoy your service when you are cold and annoyed. There are way too many great spas in Buffalo and the area to waste your time and money on a below average place that doesn't even care to call you back or treat your well. Do yourself a favor and stick to the Capellos in Williamsville or go elsewhere. read more

While I have been a long time client of one of the stylists (who is absolutely amazing and so unbelievably friendly - Gina, for anyone who is looking for someone!), the owner is less than friendly. While I am aware that moving locations always causes some hiccups, if you have three wedding parties organized on the Saturday right after you move into the new location, you should have some space ready for them (say to hang their dresses or veils??) and not every surface should be coated in new paint. Also, if the parties' services are scheduled before hand so the girls can be picked up at 3 from the salon, do not schedule them to end at 2 and then complain that the wedding party needs to leave. People pay good money to get their hair and makeup done in a professional setting, and wedding parties pay to enjoy their time and not stress. Instead, we had to deal with the manager complaining that we needed to get picked up earlier because they did not time in the services correctly. The stylists we experienced were fantastic, but the owner needs to be a lot more friendly if she wants further business. read more

I recently went to see the 'color specialist' at the salon in Williamsville. I spent 160$ and left with a half assed cut and color. I have naturally brunette hair that is very long. I wanted to go a little darker with SUBTLE golden hues showing underneath. She colored literally the top half of my head and placed 3 foil hilights on the bottom. It is very choppy and looks cheap.
