This is the most unfriendly diner I've ever encountered. We walked in and the host begrudgingly grabbed some menus and brushed by us with a gruff "follow me": no greeting, no hello. After he seated us, he stormed off wiping his nose on his hand. Ew! The waitress was just as unfriendly. After about ten minutes she came over and asked "What do you want?" My mom and I ordered panini sandwiches, I got the chicken and she got the roast beef. They came served in pitas rather than traditional bread, which was a surprise. The roast beef was extremely dry but the chicken was nicely done, although it kept sliding out of the soggy pita. The whole time we were eating it was eerily quiet, no music or people talking. The staff avoided us. Mom and I kept looking at each other wondering what we did wrong? It was expensive for two measly sandwiches, $27! One thing about this place, you will not leave hungry if you dare eat the huge plates they serve you, but amount is what it's got going for it. You get the usual variety of a Long Island diner's menu, which is what makes me give it three stars instead of two, because the flavor and presentation make me want to subtract a star. They were nice, offered good, pleasant service, but the dishes from the special felt like just a pile of food thrown on a plate after being overcooked. This is good, better overcooked than raw and sickening, but it wasn't as satisfying in terms of flavor. Out of four of us, only one enjoyed the dish and ate it all. The price was high for the specials, but you can do a custom order and order just what you want, which is also why I give it a three-rating. My take: Go if you're really hungry, not if you are craving for something more flavorful. There is little need for embellishment on a review of such a neighborhood staple. The Candlelight Diner is the childhood diner of my memories. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, the number of memories of each of these meals I've had here is countless. As the prodigal son returns home from his travels, the Candlelight Diner shines its beacon through the night, offering up any comfort food he could desire. There's always something weirdly wrong every time I go here. And every time I go here I say I'm not coming back, but I keep ending up here. By weirdly wrong I mean food is prepared strange or orders not coming out right. Reading reviews of local restaurants and I just had to share ! About a year ago went to Candlelight Diner and ordered " banana pecan pancakes " that what it says on menu . Pancakes came with no pecans on top or anywhere to be found. . Told waitress and she with an attitude brought me pecans in a little paper cup . Bill comes and I get charged extra for the pecans ! I tell manager and he says you get extra pecans we charge you . I said I got NO pecans and that's why she brought them . Manager started screaming at us "if you don't like it don't ever come back ". - Not a problem . After years and years of going there I promise - we will never go back . A 4 in my heart but a 3 on Yelp. One of the better diner's in a 10 mile radius I would say. I believe their owned by a Greek family, very nice people, attentive, and quick to bring out your food. The menu pages here are a foot and a half tall with about 8 pages of food items. I'd say the safest food to get would be breakfast, and maybe a couple pasta dishes. The dessert can be good 50% of the time, but if you order a pastry that comes out of the refrigerated window, its most likely to be stale, old, and not flavorful. The soup was chicken noodle but to be honest it was just chicken broth with thin noodles...not bad, just plain. I have been going here for years now and I absolutely love this place. I explicitly love Harry, he is the nicest man I have ever meet and deserves to be manager there. There are two other managers mike and nick. Mike is a nice guy with good experience he is a great guy. Then there's nick... There's a lot I can say about him. He's a ok guy but has a terrible personality. He's rude and seem disinterested in almost anything you say. He has a mean looking face as well and having the personality to support it. Anyway enough about the managers on to the staff. There are a lot of people that work there and I still don't know all there names but I know all the people I want to talk about. We will start off with both of the Marie's. They are both wonderful people with great personality's. They have always made me feel welcome within the dinner, although the manager nick (if certain people are not there) will try to avoid putting people in there section which is rude and disrespectful to them. Waitresses work mainly off tips and by avoiding putting people with them makes them lose money. Next is Roger, he's also a great guy! He's friendly and just a overall amazing guy. Although at times it's a bit hard to understand him because of his accent. Next is the busboy Will. He's a hard worker and is always looking for things to do. He's jokes with everyone. Honestly he's one of my favorites. Now the food, it's decent food I have no complaints. Although the bread could be cold at times and the butter hard it's hard to control that but it's whatever. Always love Candlelight! An absolute Commack staple. Recently went with friends form out of state and they both loved it as well. My favorite are their Greek staples. Went here on Easter Sunday for breakfast with my husband and mother-in-law. We usually go to a different diner (Premier) closer to her home, but that one almost always has a wait, so we decided to switch it up and go to Candlelight. There was no wait, which I am grateful for since I was starving. We were seated promptly, and the waitress took our orders. I think this diner has fairer prices too. I might just be sold. I ordered two eggs any style with bacon. It comes with home fries and toast. It was a good portion of food for only $7.60. I was impressed, and left the restaurant quite full. They both ordered the Greek omelette, and boy did the food disappear fast. I'll have to come back again and try some other foods, but I'm a fan. Prices are very reasonable, and you do get your money's worth. I've been out of Commack now for about four years, but I still miss this place, especially their pasta salad. The service was atrocious. First there was a looooong delay. We waited more than half an hour and this despite telling the waiter we needed to order and leave fast. A staff person of some kind came by and assured us that the waitress would be coming soon to take our orders and then we waited and waited. Two of us were served and then the third person got his meal after several minutes. Our dishes were cold by then. I asked for water with ice and never got it. There was no refilling of water glasses. The owner and waitresses were so rude and disrespectful. We are high school students who just finished attending the awareness weekend to go to the Diner to have dinner together. At first, they refused to serve us. Then they told us if we want to have dinner there, they will only give us two checks for about 50 of us. At the end, some of us paid their own orders with their cards up front. But the owner said they only received 20 dollars from us by paying bills with cards. But actually we paid more. They were trying to overcharge us just because we are high school students that they think we are nothing. A 16-year old girl was trying to explain all the things to the owner with good manner, but the owner was yelling at the girl and threatened he will call the cops on the girl. It just seems old. Not charming. We were seated quickly, and the waitress was super friendly and helpful. Will never come here again. The hostess is awful and rude. My fiancé and I were ahead of a group of 4 people and she took them first. She kept trying to get us to sit at the counter. Is there a reason why we couldn't have a table? Finally after waiting 15 minutes she put us at a table for 4 people anyway near a super loud large table of yelling people. Waitress no where to be found or to even check back at the table. Second visit, exact same happening. Seems the wait staff vanishes once a meal hits the table. The name "Candlelight" is more than appropriate for this diner, as the meals are only heated and cooked by candlelight. If you prefer lukewarm meals, at best, this is the place for you cause there's no chance of burning your mouth. Honestly my parents love this place I couldn't tell You why so after hearing how much they liked it I gave them a try I ordered a French onion soup after two minutes the waiter came back to take the rest of my order which I wasn't ready to place he said the French onion soup was working then came back after 1 min with a bowl of microwaved mozzarella cheese and sub par soup under it it now I know what he meant by it's working meaning the microwave is working on melting my mozzarella cheese lol fine I get it it's a dinner I didn't expect the best after coming back a third time two minutes later he puts his finger in my soup and takes it away as I was trying to grab a piece of bread to dip and looks at me and asks me if I was finished so I had no choice but to say yes because he decided to finger my bowl before asking me whatever there was only a few spoon fulls anyway I got past that and after being asked a third time if I was ready to order after only being hear for a total of 5 or 6 mins I ordered one of the most disgusting dishes I have ever seen both in presentation and taste it was stuffed artichoke hearts with melted mozzarella and pesto sounds pretty good but nope once again it was ready in two mins and it was 5 frozen then deep fried breaded artichoke hearts with rotten smelling and tasting pesto smothered in microwaved mozzarella cheese I took two bites and quickly realized that something was wrong and knew if I continued to eat I would have ended up with good poisoning or at the very least an upset stomach also they were not stuffed artichokes there was no stuffing at all it was literally battered squares of artichoke with nothing in them so all in all I was in and out in ten mins charged 30$ and ended up ordering dominoes a half hour later do yourself a favor and don't wasn't your time and money hear also the everyone that works hear is rude as hell and just wants to take your money as fast as possible and get you out . read more

From reading the other reviews on Yelp, I didn't go wrong with stopping at the Candlelight for breakfast. Our waitress was Marie who was one of the best waitresses we had in 2012 if not the best.
