The food is always mediocre at best, but it's the only diner in town and it's around the corner so we knew what to expect coming in the door. I normally wouldn't even write a review about how my wife's food and soup was cold and my burger was soggy because it's what we have come to expect. It is the rest of the experience that warranted this review. Out server tonight was named Toni and my wife and I were appalled at the way she interacted with the customers and the staff. She was very abrupt and borderline rude in her interactions and less that friendly. The one thing that really stuck out as one of the most unprofessional things I have ever seen in a dining establishment is when a table of two women left and paid at which point Toni went over to their table to retrieve the tip and apparently they only left her $5 which was not sufficient for her liking. She was very loud with voicing her opinion and said " Only $5 I gave them everything they asked for, i'll remember that for next time". My wife and I were appalled at what we saw take place. the service was miserable so we also didn't tip much more than $5 but at least 18% I only wonder what she had to say about us once we left? I may live around the corner but I would really think twice before coming back to give this establishment my hard earned money. read more

The Premier Diner which is my favorite place to meet clients on Commack Road by the Expressway was closed for renovations so my client suggested we meet here. So it's a Diner okay, 24 hour breakfast, anything you could imagine fried and salads for the weak. Here are the pro's and con's as compared to the Premier: Pro's It is less expensive than the Premier. It is less crowded than the Premier. The Premier is closed for renovations. I have been going here for years now and I absolutely love this place. I explicitly love Harry, he is the nicest man I have ever meet and deserves to be manager there. There are two other managers mike and nick. Mike is a nice guy with good experience he is a great guy. Then there's nick... There's a lot I can say about him. He's a ok guy but has a terrible personality. He's rude and seem disinterested in almost anything you say. He has a mean looking face as well and having the personality to support it. Anyway enough about the managers on to the staff. There are a lot of people that work there and I still don't know all there names but I know all the people I want to talk about. We will start off with both of the Marie's. They are both wonderful people with great personality's. They have always made me feel welcome within the dinner, although the manager nick (if certain people are not there) will try to avoid putting people in there section which is rude and disrespectful to them. Waitresses work mainly off tips and by avoiding putting people with them makes them lose money. Next is Roger, he's also a great guy! He's friendly and just a overall amazing guy. Although at times it's a bit hard to understand him because of his accent. Next is the busboy Will. He's a hard worker and is always looking for things to do. He's jokes with everyone. Honestly he's one of my favorites. Now the food, it's decent food I have no complaints. Although the bread could be cold at times and the butter hard it's hard to control that but it's whatever. I live nowhere near this diner but if I did, I would definitely be coming here more often!! I absolutely love how they serve homemade cold pasta for the table instead of the typical cole slaw and a pickle like every other diner in Long Island. The pasta salad is flavorful and incredibly delicious. The lunch specials at this diner are very reasonably priced, and there is a large variety of options to choose from. Also, all of the lunch specials come with a cup of soup and a cup of coffee or tea. I had the seafood bisque and it was delicious. For lunch I ordered the spinach pie with a Greek salad and everything was very delicious. Went for a casual dinner as we explored our new town. Was pleasantly greeted at the door, sat in a cozy booth, service was great. Good even better, my family got chicken fingers, burger and Philly cheesesteak, my son even got the pasta and loved it. This is the most unfriendly diner I've ever encountered. We walked in and the host begrudgingly grabbed some menus and brushed by us with a gruff "follow me": no greeting, no hello. After he seated us, he stormed off wiping his nose on his hand. Ew! The waitress was just as unfriendly. After about ten minutes she came over and asked "What do you want?" My mom and I ordered panini sandwiches, I got the chicken and she got the roast beef. They came served in pitas rather than traditional bread, which was a surprise. The roast beef was extremely dry but the chicken was nicely done, although it kept sliding out of the soggy pita. The whole time we were eating it was eerily quiet, no music or people talking. The staff avoided us. Mom and I kept looking at each other wondering what we did wrong? It was expensive for two measly sandwiches, $27! Breakfast, lunch, dinner, the number of memories of each of these meals I've had here is countless. As the prodigal son returns home from his travels, the Candlelight Diner shines its beacon through the night, offering up any comfort food he could desire. A 4 in my heart but a 3 on Yelp. One of the better diner's in a 10 mile radius I would say. I believe their owned by a Greek family, very nice people, attentive, and quick to bring out your food. The menu pages here are a foot and a half tall with about 8 pages of food items. I'd say the safest food to get would be breakfast, and maybe a couple pasta dishes. The dessert can be good 50% of the time, but if you order a pastry that comes out of the refrigerated window, its most likely to be stale, old, and not flavorful. Good to find a diner among the fast food joints along the road even though the lunch we had could have been better. The onion rings that were served on the specials plate looked like overcooked, over battered, thin donuts and the fries were soggy. Went here on Easter Sunday for breakfast with my husband and mother-in-law. We usually go to a different diner (Premier) closer to her home, but that one almost always has a wait, so we decided to switch it up and go to Candlelight. There was no wait, which I am grateful for since I was starving. We were seated promptly, and the waitress took our orders. I think this diner has fairer prices too. I might just be sold. I ordered two eggs any style with bacon. It comes with home fries and toast. It was a good portion of food for only $7.60. I was impressed, and left the restaurant quite full. They both ordered the Greek omelette, and boy did the food disappear fast. I'll have to come back again and try some other foods, but I'm a fan. Popular with the Commack High School crowd, Candlelight can get very crowded in the 10:00pm vicinity onwards, especially on weekends and in the summer. Prices are very reasonable, and you do get your money's worth. I've been out of Commack now for about four years, but I still miss this place, especially their pasta salad. The owner and waitresses were so rude and disrespectful. We are high school students who just finished attending the awareness weekend to go to the Diner to have dinner together. At first, they refused to serve us. Then they told us if we want to have dinner there, they will only give us two checks for about 50 of us. At the end, some of us paid their own orders with their cards up front. But the owner said they only received 20 dollars from us by paying bills with cards. But actually we paid more. They were trying to overcharge us just because we are high school students that they think we are nothing. A 16-year old girl was trying to explain all the things to the owner with good manner, but the owner was yelling at the girl and threatened he will call the cops on the girl. Finally a mom of the high school student came to talk to the owner; the owner's attitude just changed completely different and accept the bill. The Diner is garbage. They are cold-blooded. I was so disappointed with my experience today. The food was not fresh at all, everything was clearly frozen and reheated. My husband had a gyro and the sauce that accompanied It tasted like lotion. It just seems old. Not charming. We were seated quickly, and the waitress was super friendly and helpful. She was so wonderful, and despite the negatives this diner presents, she really tried her best. Excellent customer service. The food came out in a timely fashion. I ordered an omelet. Honestly my parents love this place I couldn't tell You why so after hearing how much they liked it I gave them a try I ordered a French onion soup after two minutes the waiter came back to take the rest of my order which I wasn't ready to place he said the French onion soup was working then came back after 1 min with a bowl of microwaved mozzarella cheese and sub par soup under it it now I know what he meant by it's working meaning the microwave is working on melting my mozzarella cheese lol fine I get it it's a dinner I didn't expect the best after coming back a third time two minutes later he puts his finger in my soup and takes it away as I was trying to grab a piece of bread to dip and looks at me and asks me if I was finished so I had no choice but to say yes because he decided to finger my bowl before asking me whatever there was only a few spoon fulls anyway I got past that and after being asked a third time if I was ready to order after only being hear for a total of 5 or 6 mins I ordered one of the most disgusting dishes I have ever seen both in presentation and taste it was stuffed artichoke hearts with melted mozzarella and pesto sounds pretty good but nope once again it was ready in two mins and it was 5 frozen then deep fried breaded artichoke hearts with rotten smelling and tasting pesto smothered in microwaved mozzarella cheese I took two bites and quickly realized that something was wrong and knew if I continued to eat I would have ended up with good poisoning or at the very least an upset stomach also they were not stuffed artichokes there was no stuffing at all it was literally battered squares of artichoke with nothing in them so all in all I was in and out in ten mins charged 30$ and ended up ordering dominoes a half hour later do yourself a favor and don't wasn't your time and money hear also the everyone that works hear is rude as hell and just wants to take your money as fast as possible and get you out . read more

The wrap looked like it was just slapped on the plate, cheese and turrkey were no visible and the manager had the nerve to say it was hopped up. They give complementary pasta salad to all customers, which is the best pasta salad I have ever tasted. The standard diner food is great. Our family loves this restaurant. We come here often. The food is good and hearty. My husband loves to eat and he's always satisfied. The place is clean, well managed, and the service is excellent. They really care about their customers. We have never ever had to return a dish because it wasn't prepared to our liking. Today we were there for dinner. We had pork chops, a chicken parm and a veal dinner. All 3 dinners were what we expected. We weren't rushed and were able to relax and enjoy our meal and time together. Today was Thankgiving and I had already made up my mind not to do dishes. I said 4 days ago, lets go to Candlelight and we were all smiling as we pulled into the parking lot. From reading the other reviews on Yelp, I didn't go wrong with stopping at the Candlelight for breakfast. Our waitress was Marie who was one of the best waitresses we had in 2012 if not the best. My bacon was crisp just like the way I like it. The egg white Western Omelette with home fries was perfect cooked. Coffee was very good.
