After a long day of work, we came in for a later dinner. We ordered wings and a burger deluxe, wings came out burned but they were still good, we ate them. The waitress for some reason has an attitude, I get it, it's midnight and you don't care to be here. The burger now comes out and the cole slaw bowl is sitting on top of the burger.... like actually sitting on top of the burger meat... disgusting. We asked the waitress she said that how we do it here! So we called the manager over who wouldn't give us his name, says to us.... "what do you want me to do? Tell her? Why so she walks out on me?" Taken back at this point by his answer. Then he says "we know it's not against the board of health, I know all the rules, plus no one has gotten sick from it. The first thing to say, is the pasta salad. It is the best pasta salad I've ever had and they put it on every table to start when you go for dinner. I could eat an entire bowl just for dinner. Our server was great, he was so sweet and attentive and made the experience very pleasant. I got a chicken pot pie. It was pretty good. Very hot, and came with so much for $14.95 (soup, salad, entree and coffee/tea). I got matzo ball soup which was great, a garden salad with ranch, the chicken pot pie, which was huge! And a cup of tea. It was a great deal! It is definitely a more expensive diner and everything seems like it costs $15 no matter what you get. It is open 24-7 which is nice and a great late night spot as well. Most times when I come here to do get breakfast but I've had every kind of meal here. We thought the manager and server at Candlelight Diner treated us very suspiciously and with micro-aggressions. The server treated me suspiciously when I was just taking my child to find the bathroom. Also, the manager started talking loudly about supporting Trump to the people in the booth right next to us. It was very inappropriate and it made us very uncomfortable, especially since we are all people of color. There were other instances, of suspicion/rudeness too. Breakfast here has always been ok, nothing crazy. But recently we came here for early dinner and i was not pleased. So every other time we have been here we have been treated great but this time we were seated on the right side and had a horrible waitress who should not work there. Diner The coffee came as my ass hit the seat - and for those of you who do not know me, I am notorious for being a maniac if I do not get my cup of coffee quickly at a diner- it is the entire reason I go to one for breakfast since I am more than capable of making coffee at home... so right there this place scores! The place is oldish looking - wood inside makes it look a bit dated - like paneling from the 70's. Aside from that, the place is clean and well lit- plenty of windows to light the place and plenty of tables which looked to be constantly filled with hungry peeps. Huge selection of foods- so much so that it took me a few minutes to narrow it down - but at least that coffee kept on coming! Good size place on a main road with some cool glitzy lights from outside that beckoned me in. Line was about 10 - 12 people into the foyer. Saw very good looking deserts, and food passing by, but went for the souvlaki and greek salad to go. (Yes that let me not wait on the line). Sat at the counter while waiting and saw a happening place. The waitress was my mothers age and wore extra makeup, took my order while promising me an extra nice greek salad. The quintessential cool diner waitress. A nice man asked me to be clear if I wanted a takeout menu or menu to use to order take out.. it went on back and forth a few minutes until we understood each other lol (he had no more takeout menus) - he was the boss of the place and was ringing up the tickets at the door. Pleasant and direct. The food was good, the people were serious about keeping the crowd moving, and getting orders out, but in a cool ok way. The plus for this place over a few others not too far, is the assertive boss, and waitress, even a bus boy looking young man likely from el salvador came over ... and looked me patiently in the eye among the buzzing place, and asked if I needed to order, he made sure he was clear I had ordered already before he smiled and moved on. Weekend around breakfast time is pretty crowded but the wait isn't too bad since there are lots of tables and they serve pretty quickly. The environment and the workers are fine, but the breakfast selection was very underwhelming. I ordered a small orange juice, and I swear it was a cup for infants. It looked like an enlarged shot glass. As far as the food is concerned, it was okay. The best seats are in the booths by the big glass windows. My boyfriend LOVES their chicken parmigiana. He orders it almost every single time we're there... I've had their french toast for breakfast/brunch twice and the portions were pretty big and it tasted great too. The scrambled eggs were alright. I don't really like their seafood, except for the salmon. That's good stuff. Don't order the calamari or scallops! Really bland. Hmmm, I've also had their fries and wings for late night munchies, and those were alright too. I DO like their milkshake (got a strawberry one); it's pretty good! I'd say the staff is usually really great. The ladies who work there are wonderful. My boyfriend and I got a free dessert from the restaurant owner once, maybe because he's been going there since he was a kid. On the site I requested a substitution for fries instead of potato salad and I order sides of coleslaw. Once I placed the order (which was absurdly expensive) I called in to confirm they received the order and changes made online. The girl I spoke with confirmed as much. I also requested to receive pickles, like when you dine in a diner and I was told no. After an hour of waiting for our food we received it cold, without the substitutions, with a piece of hair in the potato salad and missing our coleslaw. We called the restaurant to tell them and the man that answered the phone was extremely argumentative and unhelpful. We explained to him the mistakes and asked him to rectify the order and after having to go back and forth with him he was finally agreeable, but insisted we must come pick up the food. The waitress gave me a song and dance about online orders and tried to make it look like it was my fault while my main course was being served at the same time my appatizer of reheated soup and bread were being reserved. I've eaten at the diner twice, the first time my family and I has a decent experience, but the second time was not and I doubt we will ever go back. We went on Friday night and were seated pretty quickly but the waitress didn't make an appearance for at least 10 minutes which I've never experienced before. Usually someone comes over to take a drink order but didn't. Anyway the waitress comes over and takes our order and leaves. My 12 year old makes a comment that she thought the waitress didn't like us, I tell her no no no the waitress is ok. So my husband wanted to order pickles and coleslaw, it takes a few minutes to flag down the waitress. My husband orders the pickles and coleslaw. The waitress then says , " it's not included." Uh ok, we didn't expect it to be included we were ordering it. My husband tells her yea we'd like to order it. She says ok then leaves. Food comes and it's decent, nothing spectacular but not bad. After the everyone eats their dinner my husband asks for the dessert that came with his meal. I ask the waitress what kind of pies they have and again she says, " it's not included." Uh yea I know, I didn't ask if it was included I asked what kind of pie they had. I only had soup so I knew nothing was included. Anyway I told her I know it's not included. She rattles off their pie list and I ordered cherry pie. It was the WORST pie I've ever had. It was completely inedible and it was $6! I visited the candle light diner last night. It was not about the food but my friend was rung up with a new cashier for someone else's bill. It was 140.00 we her was only 21.00 Thank God she looked at the bill before we left. We were told that the transaction was voided. When we called the bank we were told she was charged 2x for 140.00. We spoke to the OWNER who didnt really help her. Then to find out that he did not call her this morning like he said. Any way the least he could have done was to offer her a free meal! Rip off and dangerous place! This afternoon the front of the diner - in the parking lot was barely shoveled and was all ice - AND - ALL of the handicap spots were, ironically, covered in thick ice. It snowed - minimally - more than 24 hours earlier. No excuse for that. I'm extra sensitive to, well, safety now being on crutches with a broken ankle. To enter, I had to walk between 2 cars for a spot with NO ice and go up the stairs. At the same time, elderly with canes were trying to come and go. The older Greek male "host" told me, after I asked, that he was the manager. I complained about the parking lot and handicap spots and pointed out the window. He was immediately annoyed, shrugged his shoulders, and said "I guess I'll tell the boss" and showed us to our table. [We stayed because my husband didn't have much time before having to head to work]. The egg white veggie omelet I had was okay, not dry, but lacked sufficient cheese. Waitress was very nice. Coffee was good. We had to pick up a "to go" wrap for someone and felt compelled to write this review and point out that this flimsy wrap was $15.00 (!!!!!) I don't frequent diners except maybe for breakfast. So many other choices. But decided to stop by here for a change. I can only speak for what I had which was basically a coffee and a burger but I can say this. The coffee was large, fresh and quite good. What more can you ask for The burger was surprisingly good. I've been checking out all these specialty burger places lately and left feeling quite disappointed as a rule. But I stop in a diner and have a delicious burger. Patty seemed like it was made fresh and was delicious. 4 LARGE slices of bacon which surprised me. Best thing may have been the bun. It was lightly toasted "potato" style bun that was just perfect. Dozens of dinner specials which are a full meal with soup, salad, coffee and dessert. I had the parmesan trio which has chicken, shrimp, and eggplant parm and a huge bowl of spaghetti. That plus the salad, a cup of shrimp bisque and a honkin' big slice of their chocolate layer cake for $16.00. HUGE portions too. Over half of it plus the cake came home. Mom had the snapper picatta. Two good sized filets with green beans and a baked potato. Chicken noodle soup for her. $12.00 Where are you going to get a deal like this, especially with such good food? As always the dessert case beckons upon going in with high pies, rich parfaits and tortes. On the way out they have a dish of yummy soft butter cookies you just help yourself to. One thing about this place, you will not leave hungry if you dare eat the huge plates they serve you, but amount is what it's got going for it. You get the usual variety of a Long Island diner's menu, which is what makes me give it three stars instead of two, because the flavor and presentation make me want to subtract a star. They were nice, offered good, pleasant service, but the dishes from the special felt like just a pile of food thrown on a plate after being overcooked. This is good, better overcooked than raw and sickening, but it wasn't as satisfying in terms of flavor. Out of four of us, only one enjoyed the dish and ate it all. The price was high for the specials, but you can do a custom order and order just what you want, which is also why I give it a three-rating. My take: Go if you're really hungry, not if you are craving for something more flavorful. I usually order the Greek chicken burger (Sauteed spinach and feta on top) with french fries, it's sooo good! Probably one of the smartest financial moves you'll ever make is to order a $13.95 dinner special at Candlelight Diner. This is a perfect example of a loss-leader. There's simply no way a place can sell this much food at that price point and make any money on it. The dinner specials (there are a bunch) are served with soup, salad, entrée with sides, huge bread basket, dessert, and coffee or tea. Couple that with the always-free cauliflower pasta salad, and you would literally explode if you even attempted to eat everything that was put in front of you. My move is to eat half the entrée, split the dessert with my wife, and add the uneaten contents of the breadbasket to my entrée doggie bag (there's a ton of different breads, muffins, crackers, pastries, etc, in each basket). So, for $13.95 you have a massive meal, enough for lunch the next day, and the leftover bread basket pastries and muffins can even serve as your breakfast if you play your cards right. Disclaimer: not all the food is great on the dinner specials. I personally have enjoyed the moussaka, but some of the pasta dishes can fall flat, and one time I had swordfish kebobs and it just wasn't as fresh as I hoped. But you have to keep in mind the price point! You're insane if you order something off the regular menu, you might as well then write a Yelp review about how overpriced this diner is. read more

The food is always mediocre at best, but it's the only diner in town and it's around the corner so we knew what to expect coming in the door. I normally wouldn't even write a review about how my wife's food and soup was cold and my burger was soggy because it's what we have come to expect. It is the rest of the experience that warranted this review. Out server tonight was named Toni and my wife and I were appalled at the way she interacted with the customers and the staff. She was very abrupt and borderline rude in her interactions and less that friendly. The one thing that really stuck out as one of the most unprofessional things I have ever seen in a dining establishment is when a table of two women left and paid at which point Toni went over to their table to retrieve the tip and apparently they only left her $5 which was not sufficient for her liking. She was very loud with voicing her opinion and said " Only $5 I gave them everything they asked for, i'll remember that for next time". My wife and I were appalled at what we saw take place. the service was miserable so we also didn't tip much more than $5 but at least 18% I only wonder what she had to say about us once we left?
