I didn't find this to be one of the great kosher delis. Though the portions were healthy, the food itself was middle of the road. The brisket was very salty, so much so that it ruined the meal. The turkey was cold cut quality; im used to fresh off the bone turkey breast. I can get a better sandwich at a sandwich shop unfortunately, and at a more modest price. The latkes were overly fried, to the extent that they were hard to cut, although they were tasty. On a positive note, the service was exceptional. There must be a great kosher deli on Long Island. Where is it? read more

Great kosher deli with delicious pastrami! The place is really cute inside and very clean, with a nice sized dining area. Service is efficient abd helpful. And the pastrami is out of this world! Potato pancakes were huge. My only knock on it is value, the price is high and the sandwiches aren't overly stacked - but it's still worth it. read more

Pastrami N Friends - Delis Near Me - Commack, New York

ORIGIN: Ernie Quartarone opened Pastrami N Friends in 1975, a time many NYC residents had migrated east. The deli brought a beloved NYC experience to newly constructed residential communities. LOCATION: The deli, which offers a dining room and table service, is located in a strip mall near Jericho Turnpike. CONCEPT: Pastrami N Friends brings a Brooklyn Kosher deli experience to Suffolk County, whether dining in or taking out. ATMOSPHERE: The deli has been around for decades, and it charmingly shows in the decor. New York City-themed images adorn the walls. FOOD: Have to try the Pastrami, which comes in two forms (lean or juicy). I ordered the Canarsie special -- small Matzo ball soup, small mound of fries, and half Pastrami sandwich. The sandwich is served on rye bread, and mustard is provided at the table. The Pastrami is thinly sliced and layered thickly. Cold slaw and Kosher pickles are placed on the table before any order is placed. Each pickle appeared to have been prepared differently. TIP: The experience does not come cheap. A small bowl of Matzo ball (+ $2.49) soup, half Pastrami sandwich, and small mound of fries (plus generous bowl of Kosher pickles and side of cold slaw awaiting each table) came to around $32 with tax and tip. The deli is closed on Mondays and opens at 11 o'clock. read more

A staple in the Commack community. Growing up in Commack, it was a long overdue visit Pastrami N Friends. I can see why it is special here and still around for many to enjoy. We only did a take out. We might try it out and stay next time. Fresh food all around. For a cold day, the food was just right to warm our souls. Parking available and shared within the space with other stores. All payments accepted. Looking forward to trying other items from the menu next time. read more

My last review was over 10 years ago and I'm sad to say that this place has changed. I think we definitely started out on the wrong foot with the waitress who had a very mean tone with my daughter who walked in with a Starbucks cup. It would be totally understandable had the waitress just said that they dont allow outside food or drink but she was downright nasty. My daughter who has some "special needs" rarely goes out anyway was so embarrassed to be called out in such a mean way that she left the restaurant and cried in the car. I'm not saying that they should let customers do whatever they want but perhaps the waitress could tone it down just a little bit. One person in my party explained to the waitress that she could have been just a little kinder and she apologized. Ok damage done. The rest of us wanted to eat. I ordered a corned beef sandwich and we ordered potato pancakes to share. Potato pancakes came out cold but one was burnt and they tasted like they had been frozen, I was disappointed. My corned beef sandwich was delicious but very light on the meat as were the 2 other sandwiches at the table. For the price of the sandwich we expected it to be like it used to. Prices went up, portions got way smaller. All that plus the waitress throwing away my son's French fries which he wanted to take home, we won't be back. (The fries were delicious!) read more

I've been coming here either to eat in or takeout since I was a kid. One of the best deli's around the area and always excellent service too. I usually get the half sandwich and soup special which comes with a side of fries. I get the pastrami, and chicken soup sometimes with a matzo ball but usually without because it's a lot of food (they give you coleslaw and pickles as soon as you sit down). Everything is delicious, and I always get a Diet Cherry Dr. Brown's to drink. read more

Pastrami N Friends - Complimentary pickles and slaw - Delis Near Me - Commack, New York

Whenever I go back to N.Y. to visit family, I always try and visit this kosher deli. They don't have any down here in North Carolina. Get my favorite, either Pastrami or Corned beef on rye. Still give you Pickles and Cole Slaw to start. Fries are excellent as well. Can get the meat lean or fatty. Waitresses are typical NYers, chatty and know the menu backwards and forwards. I sometimes get the 'Canarsie', which is a half sandwich with cup of soup - mushroom and barley is the best! This is the only one I know left in Suffolk County. Prices are high, but you get what you pay for.............. read more

I went there today with colleagues for lunch, and one colleague brought in glat kosher food and was refused bringing in the food after we sat down. We were treated poorly. We tried to explain that my colleague could not eat there as he is glat kosher observant, beyond the kosher standing of this restaurant. They were illogical in their thinking. We left the restaurant very disrespected. I have dined there often but told them I would never return. My colleagues will never return as well. Not a way to treat good customers. read more

I mean if you want a good sandwich and pickles, then you just found your new place. I was hungry and could not take a picture but the sandwich was stacked with deli meat and met hunger expectations. The turkey, salami, and coleslaw was delicious. My husband went to go pick up the sandwiches and he wasn't gone maybe more than 15 minutes. Definitely found a new deli we can go to! read more

***FANTASTIC KOSHER DELICACIES*** ***FRIENDLY HELPFUL SERVICE*** WHAT'S FOR DINNER? Can't figure out what's for dinner tonight? Tired of the same-old pizza, Chinese take-out, burgers, and all that other fast food crap-ola? Want something different, but just can't figure out where to go? Well, the answer is simple. But for some reason, a lot of us forget about the delicious and super satisfying delicacies offered at a Kosher Deli restaurant. So now, if you're anywhere near Pastrami And Friends, it's the perfect solution to your dinner and/or lunch choice dilemma. A TOP CHOICE Without a doubt, one of the most popular items at any Kosher Restaurant will be the deli meat sandwiches. And here at Pastrami and Friends, the corned beef, pastrami, roast beef, turkey, tongue, and brisket are some of the best around. And their fantastic soft rye bread just elevates anything put in between . Now I have to mention that the regular sandwiches on the menu are called Flatbush Favorites, and can be ordered either hot or cold, and can also be put on a roll. But then, at the bottom left of the menu are what's called the Coney Island Combos, which are big, overstuffed sandwiches that combine different meats, along with toppings such as coleslaw, Russian dressing, and hot peppers. These sandwiches are by far my favorite. And let me say, you'll see when you open the wrapper on these - you're going to have to open real wide to take a bite. But most of all, let me warn you, once you have eaten one of these combos, you will find yourself craving them like a drug. WHAT'S A SANDWICH WITHOUT A PICKLE? (AND OTHER ITEMS) Whenever ordering a sandwich, the server always asks what pickles you would like with it - sour, or half sour. And I always answer mixed, so I can sample each type of their fantastic crispy pickles, that compliment the sandwiches so well. And then, how can you not order a knish? Whether it's their fantastic crispy fried square knish or the round baked version, you can't go wrong. And for some reason, if you're not in the mood for a knish, Pastrami and Friends offers really crisp and delicious potato pancakes with applesauce. Lastly, there's even hush puppies, which are kind of like a long potato knish with a hot dog inside. And speaking of hot dogs, next time you're thinking about stopping at one of those trucks on the side of the road - forget about it. Just come here instead, and enjoy some delicious kosher franks, with any toppings you may want. You can thank me later. Importantly, regardless of what you order, don't forget to ask for extra of their delicious kosher mustard, that just elevates anything you either dip in it, or put it on. YOU THINK ITALIAN DELIS HAVE GOOD COLD SALADS? I'm not sure there's anything better than a nice cold salad to compliment a savory sandwich or meat dish. And because of my heritage, I always thought Italian delis had the best tasting potato, cole slaw, and macaroni salads. Well, I'll be dipped in sh!t and rolled in corn flakes! The cold salads at Pastrami and Friends has everyone beat! With the fantastic taste of each salad, and the vast number of choices, I have to give this spot the gold. OY VEY I ALMOST FORGOT When it's cold outside, and even when it's not, don't forget to grab one of the delicious soups here. My favorite being the chicken soup, to which you can then add either motzoa balls or kreplach, which are a kosher-style type of meat dumpling. In addition, you can also order the kreplach fried as a side dish. I CAN JUST KEEP ON GOING The Dyker Heights Dips, come with your choice of roast beef, turkey, or brisket, with fried onions on a toasted club roll, with au jus and fries. Definitely try one of these. And then there's even the Knish-Wich, where you pick either pastrami, corned beef, or turkey, and then, this is placed on top of a cut open knish. I had one with corned beef on a fried knish with mustard, and it was unique and delicious. And finally, if you're a fan of stuffed cabbage, Pastrami and Friends makes a really great one. IT'S A DELI AND A RESTAURANT There's a nice sized restaurant area in the rear, with full table service, But mostly, I enjoy stopping in, and ordering take-out from the deli counter. When doing this, you'll be greated by Ernie (a super friendly and personable guy), and the rest of the staff. Without a doubt, they always seem really happy to help you place your order. So the next time you're driving home, and can't figure out what you want for dinner, just put Pastrami and Friends into Google Maps.  And then when you arrive, let Ernie take your order, and/or help you decide what to bring home. That's the way I most enjoy the experience here, and I bet you will too. So take my advice, and give this a whirl -  and then, the only problem you'll have is trying not to open the bags and start eating before you get home. read more

This was my first time patronizing this establishment. I'm not a pastrami lover, but ordered a sandwich for my husband. He said the pastrami was delicious but complained that they didn't put mustard on both sides of the bread. The bread wasn't anything special and the sandwich was a bit pricey! I also bought some deli salads. The potato salad was outstanding! I will definitely go back, just for the potato salad. read more

Always friendly and respectful. The food is traditional and delicious. We love Pastrami and Friends!

So here's the thing, they aren't clean, plain and simple. I only get soup here because it's the only thing they can't touch with their hands. Don't believe me? Go in and order anything other than soup, to go, and just watch. The guys at the counter wear rubber gloves that they wear while making your food, and continue wearing them while handling money. They don't change them. Sure I'd love a side order of filthy money in my sandwich. If the money you just touched was in a strippers g string all the better. Good job keeping your own hands clean all while my sandwich is UNCLEAN. Gross. The soup is good though. read more

That's says it all ! Could have been better! 1st time there inside so we started to order at counter thinking we can take to a table w/o waitresses ! Not so! Great lil kosher deli in commack that has decent pastrami. Located in a shopping mall 15 mins from my house, I wanted to try this place since the reviews were great. I came here because my girlfriends grandmother has been wanting some fresh pastrami and Katz deli is just way yo eat for that drive so I googled some local places and came across pastrami & friends. Upon walking in I loved how you had all the local jewish people from the neighborhood coming in and supporting the local neighborhood spot. I ordered a quarter pound of pastrami and a quarter pound or corn beef. I also got a pastrami sandwich and a knish. The pastrami sandwich was decent and had a great amount of pastrami on it but the quality wasn't there. It wasn't terrible, but I had way better pastrami from other places. I really enjoyed the corn beef better then the pastrami to be honest, but overall I would definitely come back again and get a sandwich. Overall, decent local spot for your pastrami craving. I'll def be back as well as checking out other local places on the island. Any recommendations, please feel free to enlighten me. read more

Here's the Scoop! My honey and I were in the area shopping today and Yep we came for the delicious Pastrami and corn beef sandwiches on rye. We order them juicy which means a little fat in our slices. Oh la la so, so good. We enjoyed them with a side of straight cut fries that are fried to perfection , with cole slaw and kosher pickle. Whenever you come here for a meal it's just delicious! The service is quick and friendly. We waited about 5 minutes for our sandwiches. They hit the spot as usual! If you're ever in the area you must give them a try. It's always good eating when you come here. read more

Pastrami N Friends - Hot Pastrami or Corned Beef - Delis Near Me - Commack, New York

First time dining at Pastrami & Friends, the ambiance feels like a time capsule (in the best way possible). You can tell staff has been since the beginning. Now to the food, complimentary pickles and cole slaw (best I've ever had) for the table. Ordered a pastrami sandwhich (juicy) with cole slaw on top (yes because it's that good). This sandwich alone will have me returning, along with all the window items I have yet to try. Only down side is price point, but that is what is to be expected with Kosher! read more

This is our local kosher deli which has been churning out perfect triple decker, combo sandwiches, hotdogs, fries, soup, knishes, etc etc since I was a kid. I've been here countless times for take out. I usually scarf down a dog n kraut while I'm waiting for my turkey/corned beef/tongue with Russian and Cole slaw or whatever. Impossibly consistent with just the right amount of customer service and serious counter service attitude. These guys are a treasure. read more

I miss 2nd Ave Deli and this is a good replacement. The staff is friendly. The food is excellent. We brought great grandma here a few times and celebrated her 100 birthday. The brisket, pastrami and corned beef were all delicious, similar to Katz. The tongue is very moist and flavorful but sometimes can be too salty. The chopped liver is superb, the best outside of 2nd Ave Deli. Matzo ball and soup is standard at our table. The rye bread is seedless! Would be a weekly visitor if I lived close by. We recently needed help with catering options and the order came out perfect. All the picky eaters were more than satisfied. We didn't order from the catering menu, but did meat by weight plus other noshes and sides. The price was great and the service pleasant. $250 fed 8 people plus everyone bought home another meal from the leftovers. They thought of everything. They even packed mustard! read more

The regular pastrami on club bread is what you want, with square knish, and extra mustard. Can really feed 2 people since it ain't cheap!

I ordered a 1/2 a pound of chicken salad Couldnt see it from the counter they had it in the kitchen. As it came from the kitchen to the counter, the total was $12.50 for a half pound of chicken salad. This was by far the worst chicken salad I ever had. It was super heavy and loaded in mayo, along with it being canned chicken. I threw it out after 2 bites and told them I would never return to this deli. It is very outdated, food is in the open. Doesn't look so clean. read more

I I tried this place years ago the service was horrible! I can't tell you how long I waited just to get a waitress to come over and there was nobody there. They were also very expensive! My husband wanted a "good pastrami sandwich" so I Googled Kosher Delis and this popped up. We took the half hour drive. Worth it!! In a strip of stores, you walk into the Kosher deli counter, and proceed to the restaurant in the back. Not too big, quaint and clean. Retro hockey and baseball pictures hanging in the walls, take you down memory lane. They serve pickles and cole slaw to start you off. My husband had the bologna and pastrami sandwich. The pastrami was good good, he thought it was made on property, but it was not. They have it delivered from a Kosher distributor in Brooklyn. The Menu also has many touches of Brooklyn incorporated into it. I had the Knish-wich. A square knish, with your choice if meat on top, I chose Corned Beef and it was a hit!! I also had a side of Kasha and gravy. Delicious, warm, comfort food. Absolutely worth our drive!! read more

Ordered in food from pastrami and friends in Commack this evening spent over 100$ ordered soups over stuffed sandwiches etc. foods always been good. When we got it home the sandwiches didn't look over stuffed. I called the owner said he weighed both sandwiches himself I said ok hung up and placed them on the plates. This is what the sandwich looked like A LUMP OF MEAT no top bread. No Cole slaw no Russian dressing just meat. I called back and he in not so many words, but close, called me a LIAR. Insisted how on earth would he pack a sandwich like that. Rather than saying OMG I'm so sorry I'll make it up to you next time... he turned it around and put the blame on me. Said I must have thrown out the top slice of bread when I unwrapped the sandwich. Well there will be no next time he was so rude they've lost my business.
