Stopped in for breakfast, ordered a simple egg white wrap. The wrap looked like it was just slapped on the plate, cheese and turrkey were no visible and the manager had the nerve to say it was hopped up. I opened sandwich in front of her and if i had a microscope i wouldn't have been able to see it. Needless to say it was sent back and i left. I ordered a quick dinner for pick-up tonight. Even on the phone the owner, when taking my order, was rude. I just coughed it up to him being busy. Wrong! When I went to pick up my food, he charged me more than what the menu quoted. He asked me "what website did you see my menu? You looked at the wrong one". I went to www.candlelightdiner.com. He said that he increased the prices a few days ago and that my item costs more now, as he did not update the menu. He charged me for every piece of take out container. I have never heard of such a thing! It was foil with a cheap plastic cover! On top of this, he increased my portion to the large size and charged me for it-- I did not order large! He was dismissive, unapologetic and altogether pedantic. To make matters worse, he continued to wipe his disgusting dripping nose with the same hand that he was packing the food with. When I told him that this was all ridiculous, he said if I didn't like it I could leave. I have been going here since I moved to Commack 5 years ago. It's a great dinner with lots of options. The staff is very helpful and the diner is clean. They give complementary pasta salad to all customers, which is the best pasta salad I have ever tasted. The standard diner food is great. I've lived in Commack my entire life and I've seen a lot of places come and go but Candlelight Diner is one of the few places that has survived. They've been around so long that I can remember going there in high school at 2am with 20 or so friends and sitting in the "smoking room". Anyway, I digress. The food isn't anything special but whether I go for breakfast, lunch or dinner, I'm always satisfied. Their burgers however, are very good and so are their pancakes. My favorite dish is actually their Cobb Salad. I'm not a big salad eater but it's gigantic, with sliced eggs, pieces of crispy bacon, tomatoes, fresh lettuce and nice, big strips of grilled chicken that are always very tender. It shouldn't even be called a salad. It's a meal. Everything else on their menu is exactly what you'd expect from a diner. If you're from Commack, you already know all about Candlelight Diner but if you're from out of town and you're looking for a good, inexpensive meal that is also kid-friendly, I would definitely recommend it. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because there have been occasions when the service wasn't very good. But otherwise, it's one of my favorite places to have a meal in Commack. read more

I've been here 4 times and everything with this diner is good except for the fact that every time I go they seem to forget to bring me water or refill my water! That wouldn't bother me if I drank other things along with it, but I don't. Judging by the reviews I've read, I seem to be the only one with this problem so clearly it's me. Our family loves this restaurant. We come here often. The food is good and hearty. My husband loves to eat and he's always satisfied. The place is clean, well managed, and the service is excellent. They really care about their customers. We have never ever had to return a dish because it wasn't prepared to our liking. Today we were there for dinner. We had pork chops, a chicken parm and a veal dinner. All 3 dinners were what we expected. We weren't rushed and were able to relax and enjoy our meal and time together. Today was Thankgiving and I had already made up my mind not to do dishes. I said 4 days ago, lets go to Candlelight and we were all smiling as we pulled into the parking lot. Tomorrow we'll have turkey but for today it was Mom's day off and to relax and enoy another meal at Candlelight. I hope others enjoyed their Thanksgiving as much as we did. read more

Look it's a diner. Nothing fancy, but serves solid food. I've been here a few times only for breakfast and I didn't have a single complaint. The food is always served hot and the coffee refills come around very often. I asked for my omelette soft and they were on point. The home fries were better than most. Jessica was the one of the best waitresses I've ever had at a diner. I don't get her often but when I do she is by far the best!!! She was very attentive, very professional and a delight to have as my waitress. She was very chipper even late in the day which is always a pleasant surprise. I'm a professional in the food service industry, so I know what customers look for. She was very courteous, clean cut, and cheerful. She also gave me a great suggestion of trying the yankee pot roast, which was exquisitely filled with flavor. Candlelight is sort of a staple if you live in the area, but it doesn't really deserve its recognition. Waitstaff is hit and miss; when I went yesterday, the waitress was pretty snippy and watched us the entire time. She asked if I wanted fries with the burger, and not understanding that it was a $3 up-charge, i said yes. So essentially she tricked me into buying an $14 meal instead of a $9 one, if you include soda. Everything lacked flavor, no salt on the fries but there was excess oil dripping from them. They reminded me of those prepackaged Ore-Ida fries. The burger itself looked like a prepared patty you would get at a store, with no flavor, not even salt. For some reason the cheese was not melted at all. It came with a side of coleslaw that was notably boring, consisting of all cabbage with a single shred of carrot; heavy on the vinegar, but none of the creaminess you usually expect. The only true saving grace is the pasta they serve instead of bread before you order. Although it's full of butter, it's pretty damn delish. Other than that, save your money and go somewhere else. The prices for the quality is ridiculous, I could have a better experience going to any other diner or even The Spare Rib in the area. read more

I really wish I could leave zero stars for this diner. I'll say that the service was fine, but that's it. I ordered a Greek wrap with chicken. It was the most poorly made wrap I've ever been served. Completely fell apart. Plus the chicken was lower quality than McDonalds. My husband ordered the tuna melt. He could barely eat it. Went there with a friend for breakfast earlier this week. As expected there was a line for a table however we were seated within 10 minutes as we were just a party of two. We've been coming to Candle lightdiner since we were in high school. As such, the diner has some sort of nostalgic charm. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive. I ordered the whole wheat pancakes with powderedsugar and Walnuts , the pancakes were dry but OK. I also had a cup of coffee which was a little bitter but this is a diner not a Starbucks... The Manager is very welcoming to all customers when you first enter.
