We are from out of town. I came across Campfire on yelp. It gave of and upscale/kid friendly vibe so I figured we should check it out. The place is definitely cool and different. Service was okay. She was training another person and it did get annoying when you want refills and no-one stops by for a long time. For food I will say the presentation for everything was spot on and beautifully done. I started out with he oysters which were good. Then on to their famous broccoli dish that tasted and looked like a head for broccoli that you forgot in the oven. It was definitely not our thing. Apparently, everyone else loves it so don't listen to us. Main course I got the market fish and I think it was grouper? It was alright. A lot of pea spread and mint. It wasn't for me. Not like it was horrible but I wish I had gotten something else. Lastly we got the s'more's. Not good. Huge disappointment. A+ on presentation, F on taste. The "marshmallows" tasted like a flavorless tofu/egg white with the stickiness of a marshmallow. The kids had fun roasting the wannabe marshmallows and after one bite no-one went in for another. This place was great in so many ways. The food all had inventive flavors and ingredients that hardly ever overlapped so everything was unique. We were early for our reservation but were still guided to where we could get a drink and sit while we waited. The whole place sticks with the camping theme well and has cute touches all throughout the restaurant. Their menu changes with the seasons so they can have fresh ideas and ingredients. They go the extra mile on small things like boxing up leftovers for us, checking if we want clean plates/silverware for each course, pouring water for us. The service, however, felt a bit inconsistent. The blonde server was extremely helpful and kind, and I really appreciated her. But the gentleman who was serving me directly seemed a bit inattentive. He originally brought me a Pinot Grigio that was a little too bitter on the finish, so I asked if there was another option. The blonde server stepped in and helped me, which was great. A few things stood out though: * My silverware was never changed between dishes. * My first entrée plate was never picked up from the bar, even after the second dish was brought out. * I asked the bartender for a specialty drink he was making, but it was never made I'm not sure if he didn't hear me, but it was never followed up on. * My wine glass sat empty for almost 10 minutes, and he only asked if I wanted another glass right before I was about to pay my bill. What a great concept, such great food! Sat at the large bar and ordered several small dishes. While the pork belly was delicious (as it always is) and the smoked olives perfect, two dishes really stood out as pretty much the best examples of that particularly dish that I've ever had. The cornbread had such a complexity - with interplays of sour and sweet, soft and toothsome - and was served with a charcoal butter that it just blew me away. Honestly the food was trash. But the drinks were decent. The oysters were HUGE, HOT, CHEWY and had a bunch of shells in them. It actually burned my tounge it was so hot. The broccoli was burnt but it wasn't horrible. The $70 steak was super fatty and wasn't cooked medium well as I had requested. The potatoes had giant chunks of onion in them and I thought that was weird. Our server refused to take the oysters off the table when I asked them to. I won't say who. It's crispy, crunchy and yet very airy and melts in your mouth, with its smooth citrus, perfectly seasoned blend of flavors. OMG, it's soooo good! My family and I came in on a Friday night. Lucky for us, they had the perfect table located on their patio near the fire pit. It was the perfect ambiance for our first time visit, which definitely left a good taste in my mouth. Terrific experience trying this cozy rustic, wood fire restaurant. The atmosphere is laid back and relaxing. The attire is casual and comfortable. We ordered simple dishes to share: their signature charred broccoli, smoked pork belly and market fish (seabass), add a few refreshing cocktails and the baked Alaska dessert. Our server Courtney and help from Abby really made us feel welcome and catered to. When you combine terrific flavor profiles and cook the pork belly and seabass to perfection you get a great meal. You can order anything from the menu several times and the flavor and texture is consistent. There are several items for you to choose and share. Think of it as gourmet camping food. I know, I get it - they're carrots. But the combination of perfect char, dill, and the sauce. I say this with 100% honesty - I would put that sauce on pancakes and be happy. They could bottle it and retire as billionaires. Main dishes are exceptional - pork and octopus are top notch. It allowed for us to not hear the hustle and bustle inside! Perfect! We tried a bunch of dishes, and everything was fantastic: oysters, smoked olives, cornbread, lamb, market fish, ribeye with potatoes and raclette, pork chop, and smores. I ordered a non-alcoholic drink that was pretty and tart. I LOVED the service. Highlights for me were a card on the table and a non-alcoholic champagne (the other girls in my party got real champagne; our server was intuitive to my preferences and asked the chef to whip me up something that was off-menu! It was so unique, with za'atar, dates, malic acid, soda and house syrup... mostly noting it here so I can ask for it again). They kindly gave us the dessert because the waiter thought it took too long for us to get our drinks and the toast was on the house to celebrate my upcoming wedding! The hostesses at the front were really friendly and helpful. We didn't have a reservation and we were seated within 15 minutes at the communal high top tables. The draw is the s'mores experience where it's served with a mini coal fire and homemade marshmallows. We ordered a few and had fun toasting them! I've had several good experiences at Campfire in the past but the most recent visit didn't hit the mark. The broccoli appetizer is absolutely the best dish on the menu charred to perfection. The cornbread with blueberry butter was delicate and tasted like a sweet comfort treat. This time we decided to splurge and order the $78 ribeye to share. The meat was quite tough and the few pieces on both ends were basically only fat. The chimichuri sauce was nice but not enough of the meat was edible to justify that hefty price tag. The potato side dish that was an extra $18 was disappointing as well. The raclette cheese didn't mix in well and was more like a greasy layer with a flavor that didn't quite mesh with the rest of the dish. My dad got burned at campfire.... Well...not really...but where do I begin? It was my daughter's birthday and we were excited to celebrate it at campfire. It all started with my mom's mojito being filled with ice and I do mean filled. I told our waitress and she quickly brushed it off. No shade to the waitress because she was nice but good service is apologizing and comping it or offering her a new drink. The second bump during our meal was my daughter's pasta. I asked if we could have it with just Parmesan and egg. When it came out it was covered in walnuts. I asked if it would be just taken off and when she was handing it to the cook he became irritated and said "well is the egg ok?!?" My daughter even noticed his irritation and the faces he made and it made her feel bad. She's 9. When the pasta finally came back out it was actually pretty bad tasting and my daughter couldn't eat it. $400 later we left feeling pretty disappointed. Please let your cooks know not to be rude about remaking dishes especially if the error was their fault. Me and my family dine out frequently and this was not the experience we expected at a place with such raving reviews. The other food we ordered was cool but nothing to write home about and the portions for the price just wasn't worth it. Sadly we will not be back. I've heard really great things about this place and booked a res a month out for my birthday dinner. We had to wait 10min for our table to be ready, but the whole staff signed me a birthday card (super cute personal touch). You order everything all at once, so we ordered the Porridge bread, prawns, broccoli, steak, and chicken. The good: The porridge bread with black sea salt butter was tasty 7/10, the prawns were a solid 9/10, and the broccoli was another 9/10! The apps came out in good timing, were hot, and tasty. The bad: When we were done with the apps we were notified that our mains would be out shortly, however 45 MIN LATER no one has come to check on us - no food in sight for my table or the one next to us. By this time, my food has settled and i'm done. When we asked a server (not even ours) to check on our food, she came back saying that the kitchen was "just going slow tonight". We hardly ate our mains and no server apologized for the long wait or lack of attention. I had high expectations about Campfire, but after last night I don't think I want to experience that again. The broccoli is the best broccoli you will ever have in your life. Pork belly was sooooo tender, literally melted in my mouth. The crudo was insane. I celebrated my birthday this year at Campfire. It is a lovely space, something like a repurposed auto body repair shop and camping motifs subtley adorning the walls. We started with the Grilled Oysters and Prawn for appetizers. The oysters are very lightly dressed with an oxtail dashi and pickled onion. The prawn sit atop aji amarillo and are supposed to have ramps. The appetizers were perfectly serviceable but they were not really memorable. The oysters could use more acidity and the prawns completely lacked ramps. Ramps are a very seasonal ingredient that are often only available in the Spring time so I understand that they might not have been available in September when I dined there. However, if they are not included on the plate, I'd want the restaurant to update the menu. The only reason I ordered the prawns at all is because I love ramps and was sorely disappointed when they weren't included. The best dish of the night was a vegetable side dish, the broccoli. It was a whole head of roasted broccoli, on chermoula with lime and peanut. This was so interesting and different. The broccoli had a crispness from the roasting, there was a curry-like sauce, and the flavors were bright. We ate this alongside a very well cooked rib eye with chimichurri and a chipotle chicken with yogurt and grilled eggplant. I was celebrating my birthday that night and the staff all signed a birthday card, which was a nice touch. I feel as if staff was deciding whether to give me a slice of birthday cake (I even saw our waiter walk past with a birthday candle on a plate) but I don't know if that's standard practice anymore because I did not receive cake. Even when I mentioned on my review that'd I'd visit often, I only came once in May and now today. I do really like this place a lot that it saddens me that I haven't visited this place more often than I thought. I was surprised that we got seated at the same place where I sat last year and got the same server, who is Courtney. She truly is the best server that I would literally only want to get served by her only when I visit Campfire again. I will say the holiday cocktail drinks are much less than last year but they are still all so good. We've had five out of the six they had but they're all so good and Terry's Milk Punch has got to be my most favorite of all of them as it literally tastes like milk punch and I can barely taste the alcohol in it. The food were all so delicious and the broccoli continues to be my favorite. I do wish that I can visit here more often as I mentioned to try out more of their other drinks as well. But definitely highly recommend coming here if you want some good food and want to have a good time. Back again coincidentally, a year to date from our last visit and floored everytime by the creativity and execution of every single dish. Fortunately at campfire this is absolutely the most exciting highlight. Dishes that are "regular" menu items are switched up to give it a new flare which is a stellar dining experience that keeps me going back. We love ordering a little bit of everything from the menu to share and experience it all. A special callout for my cocktail, the Kentucky crest, so good! Our server told us to chew on a bit of the greens that came in the drink and to try the drink again. Such a fun surprise! Trailhead Cornbread--calabrian chili butter. orange zest. 10/10 perfectly sweet, salty, fluffy, with that buttery crisp on the outside. The Calabrian chili butter was light but complimented the bread beautifully. So good that even this was a fan fav for our two year old! Oyster--warmed over coals. smoked oxtail dashi. pickled onion. We ordered this last time and it was one of our favorites. It didn't disappoint the second time around ordering. the freshness of the oysters, the subtleness of that char flavor, and the acid of the dash and pickled onion. Wow. I'll order these every visit! Kindling Crudo-- yellowfin. coconut. kiwi. lemongrass. thai. Oh. My. Goodness. Probably my favorite bite of the night. The freshest fish that's like butter. So silky and creamy! The freshness of all of the elements in one bite. The perfect bite hands down. Smoked Pork Belly-- rainbow carrot. pistachio. aleppo pepper. A super close second to the crudo, but my husbands favorite. Think burnt ends but elevated. The puree and complimentive elements made such a harmonious dish. The infamous broccoli-- I've got to say, this was my least favorite thing of the night which is disappointing because I remember loving it previously. The sauce didn't pull through like it previously did and was just showcasing an average mayo based aioli. The broccoli, while I know is supposed to be charred/roasted, I think our broccoli was overdone and just tasted burnt. Not in the rustic way everything else was, unfortunately. I actually couldn't eat anymore of it because all that was coming through was burnt broccoli and a mayo sauce. Such a bummer! The Fire market fish grilled-- asparagus. nasturtium. arugula. We don't typically order fish dishes as a main but wanted to give the bass a try. So creamy, fresh, and a perfectly light finish to our meal! Smores-- first time trying this. Love the fun rustic play on s'mores at your table, such a fun thought with the coals brought to your table for experience. However, practicality of the ratio of the marshmallow with the stick they give you and dying out coals make it difficult to actually make a smore. Again, fun idea but not all that practical. Overall, such a delightful experience and a must visit for diners seeking an exciting an elevated dining experience. Can't wait to visit again! read more

We had the BEST experience at Campfire last night to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday! From start to finish, everything was exceptional. I had to change our reservation to a later time, and they were so accommodating. It was easy to reach them via call, email, or text (not typical for most restaurants!). When we arrived, we were greeted with big smiles and so much warmth. Our table wasn't ready yet, but it wasn't a problem. We went to the bar for mocktails while we waited. I got the Upper East Side, and he got the Firesquad. Both were delicious, though a little sweet and fancy with the tall glasses and rock ice. The ambiance, service, and noise level were all perfect. With the reservation change, they moved us from an outdoor patio table to indoors and even sat us at a 4-top so we could sit French style (side by side.) Such a thoughtful touch. They seamlessly transferred our bar tab to our dinner table, which I really appreciated. The staff, including our server, were incredibly kind and attentive, making his birthday feel so special (and making me look good in the process!). Now for the food: Cornbread: As a Midwesterner, I prefer my cornbread a little sweeter and more moist like "Johnny Cake," but this was still tasty... just a personal preference. Broccoli: My favorite dish of the night! It's HUGE, perfectly roasted, and the chermoula sauce is absolutely to die for. We took half of it home. Carrots: Cooked perfectly with just the right amount of bite and flavor, not mushy at all. Market Fish: A white fish (like sea bass) with an incredible smoky flavor that made it exceptional. I would have liked a crispier skin, but it was still amazing. Desserts: We shared a s'more, which was so much fun to cook at the table and delicious with perfectly melty marshmallow and cookies way better than your standard graham crackers. They also surprised us with an oatmeal cookie cream pie with a candle to celebrate his birthday. A thoughtful and sweet touch! For such fine food and service, the price was surprisingly reasonable! What an experience! I've heard from a lot of people that this was their favorite restaurant in Carlsbad and I have to agree. The theme was amazing and there was quite a bit of attention to detail to keep with the camping brand! The manager opened up our dinner with a hand pour of an off menu cocktail and explained how the dinner would go. Every course was amazing! The cocktails we got before the dinner were unique and hand crafted. The broccoli was probably the best broccoli I've ever had and the chicken skin almost tasted like bacon. The s'mores also didn't disappoint and it's such a creative way to serve them. Excited for my next visit! read more

Had such a wonderful meal at campfire this week. The food is just so good. We did shared plates and all were phenomenal.broccoli is a real standout but also loved the cornbread, carrots, and potatoes. Service is fantastic. They also have some very nice wines and a heavy pour on their old fashioned. read more
