    Crudo with bluefin
    Sam P.

Second visit in a matter of weeks to Campfire and this visit was even better than the first! Began with a cocktail - the Contra Costa but as I don't like mescal they substituted gin and it was amazing! Best cocktail I have had in some time. Then we ordered lots of little dishes and they were all just delicious: The amber roasted prawn was out of this world and perfectly cooked!! The tomato with smoked blue cheese and fired bread was also just delicious! This visit the crudo was bluefin and absolutely delicious- fresh with a perfect sauce! The burrata was great, the broccoli is always a must have and finally for me the carrots were the best I have ever had! The meat eaters also enjoyed the rib eye with cast iron roasted potatoes. We had a table on the outside patio which was so great and the perfect ambiance and finally our server was amazing ! She asked if we were celebrating anything special and when we told her we had just 'graduated' a HR class- she brought us all a round of bubbles on the house which was a delightful gesture !! Cannot wait to be back here ! Very glad I work for a San Diego based company !!

Been wanting to try this spot. The inside is gorgeous. It's actually a lot larger than it looks from the outside, but I love the indoor / outdoor seating. They even have a fire pit and a teepee. Very on vibe. But the food is so delicious. I don't think you could go wrong with any item. I will say the portions are on the smaller side, but a lot of the items are pretty rich and so flavorful. Would highly recommend the cornbread, carrot app, love the aji sauce with the crudo. Great date night spot. The lighting is a couple more dessert options would be great. Other than that I would already love to go back. All the servers were super nice and helpful as well.

We always have a beautiful experience at this restaurant. We usually have a reservation since we dine with family. They are great with kids and catering food options for them that are off menu. The food is always impeccable. The broccoli is excellent, cornbread, crudo is so delicious. I'm a huge fan of the Cavatelli and rib eye. I haven't had one thing from the menu I didn't like. They offer refreshing cocktails that are always absolutely divine, I had contra costa, Johnny Rooks, and the most delicious Carajillo I've ever had! All their cocktails are absolutely perfection! Highly recommended!

This was our first Campfire experience, and we went with a group of six. Was it worth it? Yes, and here's why. This place is built for groups. The menu makes it easy to mix and match, whether you order individually or go all-in on shared plates. We chose the sharing route and covered a lot of ground: two Trailhead items (cornbread and porridge bread), three Kindling dishes (crudo, carrot, and their famous broccoli), and two from The Fire (cavatelli and the ribeye with cast iron roasted potatoes). For dessert, we doubled up on the s'mores. Check out the photos. Overall, the food landed at about a 4. The cornbread, broccoli, and cavatelli were clear standouts. The porridge bread had a great texture but needed a little more flavor on its own. The biggest surprise and disappointment was the 18 oz ribeye, which is also the $97 menu item. I had three slices. One slice was nearly half fat, and the other two were tough to cut with noticeable muscle fibers. At that price, I expect all slices to cut like butter. The s'mores were fun and definitely part of the experience, but the vegan marshmallows took a long time to melt. Either smaller marshmallows or hotter baby "campfires" would make a big difference. The vibe here is a big part of the appeal. We lucked out with a table just outside along the street, complete with an overhead heater. It was a nice escape from the high energy inside. That said, even with a reservation for six and arriving on time, we still waited about 10-15 minutes to be seated, even though our table appeared ready. Tony, our main server, however, did a great job guiding us through the menu and keeping everything flowing at a good pace. Would we come back? Yes, absolutely. But we've heard they have a whole family of restaurants along State Street, so we may explore those next before circling back. If you found this review helpful, give it a like so it can help others too.

These are all the items we got except the octopus.

We were so incredibly happy we stumbled across this place during our search for great food. This place hit the ball out of the park. We of course tried their famous broccoli and boy did it not disappoint! The textures of it were incredible and the flavor was amazing! We also ordered the Crudo and pork belly. Didn't care for the octopus (unfortunately it was just a slight overcooked). But everything else was amazing! We would absolutely come back and tell everyone to go here!

Had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. We had fish, chicken, and broccoli, and everything was excellent. The service was also wonderful, attentive, and friendly. Overall, it's a great place, and I will definitely come back.

Cooked broccoli, sorry for the dark picture, but the broccoli was amazing.

We came early without a reservation so we sat at the bar, which was ok. My wife has wanted to eat here for a long time. We ate earlier, but she wanted to come here for there cooked broccoli, yes Broccoli! Let me tell you, that was the best broccoli I have ever eaten and will probably be the best I ever eat. Unless I return which I will. They char the top of the broccoli so it's a little crunchy. It was amazing. There kitchen was non-stop busy and all the food looked amazing. Next time we stay in Carlsbad we plan to make a reservation and have dinner. I'm looking forward to it.

We love Campfire and have been here so many times and it wasn't as good tonight. Our waiter Tony was sweet and the servers seem to like working here. My octopus was too chewy and spicy. I was underwhelmed tonight. 4% surcharge is ridiculous when it was 3% last week. 1 medium size marshmallow for $9.50? Next time I will bring my own! Haha

Little brothers birthday meant we must celebrate somewhere and this year we went with Campfire which I have heard a lot about. I will say reading the menu online I was unsure on how many items looked intriguing to order but I can truly say everything we ordered was so good and had incredible flavor. My husband and I loved the pork belly appetizer it literally melted in your mouth it was so good. We ordered everything to share making it so we could have a little bit of everything and we had a great experience. We sat inside towards the back and it was a bit loud and echoey I'd be interested in sitting outside next time we go.

2 red rovers and a Kentucky crest

If I could give more stars I would... Cocktails Our table ordered the Kentucky crest (pictured), the red rover (pictured), the flamekeeper, and the king rama. By far my favorite was the red rover. It was so light and refreshing- slightly dangerous since I couldn't taste the vodka. A close second favorite was the Kentucky crest. I'm not a huge Bourbon fan but the guava in it was amazing. Trailhead We each ordered a prawn. Soooooo good. The head of the prawn was still on and it was served on a skewer but that didn't bother us. The flavors were incredible. So good. Kindling We ordered the famous broccoli and the pork belly. The broccoli should have a section of its own. It was insane. Exceeded all of my expectations - which were set high. I would go back just for the broccoli. It the best thing we had on the menu. And it's obviously famous for a reason. The pork belly was also delicious. The blackberry was an added touch that made it feel lighter. I would definitely order it again. The fire We got the octopus and the pork. The pork was good- I wouldn't order it again - just because I would want to try other things on the menu but it was good. The octopus was fantastic. Something I would absolutely come back for. The chorizo added a little spice and there were small slices of grapefruit along with the chimichurri - the flavors worked so well together. I brought some home to my husband- and it traveled well. He was waiting at the door for it and enjoyed it just as much as I did. Trails end We got the vegan sorbet, s'mores (pictured), and a blondie. The vegan sorbet was refreshing. The s'mores definitely was an experience and if it's your first time- it's a must order. But hear me out- the blondie was the best dessert on the menu. It's cooked with brown butter and has a cream cheese frosting. I also brought half home for my husband and son- and they want to go back just to pick up a round of those. It was crazy good. Finally our server Tony was tremendous. He went through each item on the menu with us. He was so informative- has tried everything on the menu and offered his opinion. We loved him. I would ask specially to sit in his section. We adored him! Highly recommend Campfire for a girls night, a date night, and even a family night!! Can't wait to go back!!

    Market fish (steelhead trout)
    Rebecca C.

The food was fantastic and the service was even better. A huge shoutout to Katy C who made celebrating my boyfriend's birthday perfect. Summer also checked on us too, and we really appreciated her as well! We ordered the broccoli because from the reviews it is the thing to do. We thought it was a little too charred for our taste, but the sauce was great. We had the peanuts on the side because my boyfriend has a peanut allergy. The oysters were probably my boyfriend's favorite part of the meal and he enjoyed the broth especially. I had the market fish, which was a steelhead trout. It was tender and the sauce was delicious. He had the chicken which he thought was great--because it was his birthday and he loves lemons, I asked if there were any way they could roast a lemon for him because he had seen a picture of them doing that with the whole fish. They made it happen, and he was really pleased with his lemon. Thank you again to Katy C and the kitchen for making this happen! There was also a complimentary blonde for his birthday with a candle on it, which was really thoughtful. Overall, we had an excellent experience at Campfire. I thought there were a lot of details that were extremely thoughtful--the plates had definitely been warmed before serving so everything stayed very warm, and they leaned into the "campfire" experience with small touches like the water pitches were Stanley thermos like you would take camping. It really added to the ambiance and I appreciated these little details!

A unique experience, that I was curious to try. We ordered; olives, broccoli, carrots, & octopus. This was shared between the two of us. All were very flavorful and I'm inspired to try my hand at roasting broccoli at home like they did! The octopus was extremely savory with little smoky bacon bits. I found I needed the shaved celery to balance out the strong smoky flavor. I highly recommend trying their ginger ale, with their house made syrup (with FRESH ginger)! It balances perfectly the savory flavors of the food. Every single staff member, from the hostess to the bus boy (and EVERYONE in between) were genuinely friendly and pleasant. Five stars for staff!

    Campfire Reviews in Other Languages

    Ask the Community - Campfire

How come Yelp is blocking me from going to your website to see if I could get a reservation for 4 tonight?

Sounds like there's a problem with the Yelp site. Maybe try OpenTable or Resy? Or just call Campfire

Do they have a bar to have a cocktail while waiting for your table?

Yes and great drinks to go with it.

    Is there a lunch menu?

Campfire does not serve lunch. It opens at 5 pm

"Campfire" is mentioned many times on the website, however I don't see any campfires in any of the pictures, nor any mention in the reviews. Are there fire pits outside? Is seating better inside or out?

There are options for both indoor or out door. There is a fire pit outdoors. It's called campfire because most of the food is cooked over a wood fire. You find out more info on their actual website.

I'm confused. I see photos and comments about this place being dog friendly but then I see others that say they don't. So are you dog friendly or not?

This place is no longer dog friendly.

    Do they serve lunch?

    Nope. Open at 4 pm

How is this place for gluten free guests?

They're great! Lots of options and the staff is very knowledgeable.

    Is there a dress code?

No dress code! This is California where anything goes ;)

Can you accommodate a peanut allergy? I see the broccoli dish has peanuts so I would want to ensure I can eat here safely.

The staff is super accommodating to any allergies and will ask prior to your meal if you have any.

For large parties do you have to pay $70 per baby/ kid as well?

Not sure, that seems extremely expensive for a child who won't eat that much. They have a kids menu though...

I see photos of the most recent menus, but don't see the Campfire Feast. Is that not a thing anymore?

Nope, they got rid of it.

Is take out available before 5pm?

Is there gelatin in the marshmallows?

    Yes, from pork.

Why take the Wax Bean dish off the menu when it's one of the most popular dishes?

Maybe because it's no longer available, seasonal, or the vendor no longer has it for the Restuarant? Many times popular dishes are discontinued just to make room for newer and possibly improved dishes.

What is the Camp Feast that they serve for dinner?

Do they have a corkage fee option? Or do they not allow you to bring your own wine

There is a corkage fee if you don't buy the wine from next door at Carruth.

Is this place okay with dogs?

Yes, they have patio area as well

How much of the corkage fee?

    I think it's $15. Either that or $20.

Are there and Vegan food options?

There are a few vegetarian sides or dishes that can be made vegetarian (egg & dairy) but this would not be a place for a vegan. They would probably go hungry.

Is brunch daily or just on the weekends?

Just on the weekends. There is lunch on the weekdays and it's delicious!

For our first appetizer-type courses, we ordered sliced sourdough with butter and roasted cabbage - both great options. The roasted cabbage ended up being my favorite part of the dinner. It was like a Caesar salad on a juicy, tender cabbage spear with a slight char. I felt like I definitely needed to order some bread to try some element of the bakery. We got another taste of the bakery because we also ordered pizza from the kids menu. I snuck a piece and that was great. We ordered two main courses: one pasta dish and the other was a braised rabbit with morels. The pasta dish was fine but my wife and I weren't planning to share it. We had to share it because the rabbit dish took so long that I had to cancel the order. It was unfortunate because I was really looking forward to that. That was one inconvenience. The other hiccup was they didn't have any beer available because of a cooler issue. They had really good beer on the menu too, so finding that out after I ordered was a let down. I entertained ordering wine or a cocktail afterward, but passed. We were sitting by the bar and the cocktails they were making looked really good. With those issues, the manager spoke with us and sent us home with a slice of lemon meringue pie to rectify. We appreciated the gesture and the service we had all night was good. I'm sure this place gets 5/5 stars most nights. It's a super cool place inside and out.
