I contacted CalTech to service my pool and informed Larry about the issues with my previous service, which caused my pool to turn green. Larry assured me this wouldn't happen with CalTech. When the technician arrived, I explained the problems and mentioned that the filters needed cleaning. The technician said the pressure wasn't too high and would clean the filters once it increased. However, my pool turned green again, and CalTech only added chlorine tablets without discussing the issue with me. I terminated their service. This weekend, I found the filters packed with green sludge. I replaced the filters, shocked the pool myself, and now it's clear. I like to support local businesses and I wish them the best, however I cannot recommend their service. read more

CalTech is a Ripoff and Larry is Dishonest! Be cautious. My pool system was leaking air and the pump unable to prime. I contacted many pool service companies but most were booked up for weeks except CalTech who was able to come next day. Should have known that was a red flag. Larry came and said a suction valve was leaking air. He replaced the valve's inner part charging me $300 but it didn't work. Then he said an o-ring and a couple of PVC connections was leaking air quoting me another $992. To my surprise, he said the initial suction valve was actually not needed and he would cut it out completely but still charge $300. I had a feeling he was over charging me and hesitant to hire him but I needed it fix soon as the pool was turning green fast and had plans for July 4th bbq. Larry persuaded me saying, "if you still want us to do the repair and we will turn the pool from green to clean as well" so I decided to just hire him. His tech fixed the problem and the pump is running but the pool continues to be green and cloudy 3 days later. I contacted Larry multiple times but he refuse to honor his words and want to charge an additional $350+ to get the pool from green to clean. Unfortunately, I over paid Larry $1292 before the job is complete trusting that he's an honest person. Afterwards, I spoke to 3 pool service companies about his service done. They all said the cost to find leak, replacing that section of PVCs, an O-ring, even with rebuild of an unnecessary valve, is about $500. Lesson learned on my part but I believe in Karma. read more

They're a rip off. He quoted me $400 to install a pump that the pump guy installed for $80. They charge $85/hour to send some kid out to scoop leaves from the pool. That's how much an electrician charges. I said I can have my landscaper do it so he complained we don't appreciate them enough. During the winter months when we don't use the pool we drop down to chemical only service ($85/month), complains about that too, wanted me to pay almost $200 a month for full service or he will sit there and complain complain complain. My pool was a nightmare. I received advertisement on Cal Tech Pools and decided to give them a call. I talked to Larry and he sent a technician out to my house. Mike (the tech) quoted me a reasonable price. One week later and my pool is sparkling crystal clear. Mike got all my equipment working and my pool ready for the spring and summer. Far from being the "rip off" that was claimed, CalTech has consistently provided me with excellent service. They have always charged me a fair and reasonable price for the work they have done. They have consistently been willing to go the extra mile.... I've recommended CalTech to others and will continue to do so. Poor pool tech service .... Even worse customer service ! We have had service from Caltech for 2 years now.... No more! Last summer our pool started turning green. For three weeks the pool people from Caltech tried to get it back to clear. It seemed every time they tried something it got worse. Through a suggestion of a friend I took a sample of the water to a pool shop for a Chemical analysis. They laughed at how far off are pool water was. I gave the results to Larry at Caltech and gave him the suggestion of the pool chemist. Within days the pool is clear again. Should've dropped Caltech right there. throughout this winter pool remain fairly clear, but it seems no one was singing the basket on a weekly basis or doing anything. This summer the pool turn green again, I had to call Larry and tell him it had been green for two weeks ( something his technicians should've known if they had been here ). He immediately got accusatory, and asked me what I had changed. I finally had to remind him of the same problem we had last summer. His response was "Oh no ! I'm not taking the blame for this." Can't say enough about Larry and Cal Tech Pools. We recently moved to Granite Bay and needed help replacing some old pool equipment. We read the Yelp reviews about Cal Tech Pools and decided to give him a call. Larry responded to our call within an hour and was at our house the next day. Long story short, our pool is now equipped with an extremely efficient pool filter and Larry made some other minor changes above and beyond the pool filter to assist us in getting our pool looking good. Larry even filled out the PG&E rebate paperwork associated with the new filter. Today, Larry and his team make weekly visits to the pool to make sure everything is running properly, all the pool chemicals are properly balanced and the pool looks beautiful for my family and friends.
