Bolivian Salteñas are by far the juiciest! Have you tried them yet? Cali Pie Guy takes the traditional meat pies up a few notches. Their unique flavors are bursting with the essence of Bolivia and its culture. They hand select and hand ground all their own meat, carefully measure their spices and they are oven baked at the Brea Farmers Market. I tried... Spicy Beef - not your classic beef Saltena. Slowly simmered in a special blend of spices but with an extra kick of chili pepper. Potatoes, carmelized onions, and a thick beef sauce. Regular Beef - without the chili pepper Flavors: Spicy Beef, Beef, Spicy Chicken, Chicken, and Vegan. Their spicy Vegan is available October - February. These meat pies have a crispy dough. Very juicy and flavorful! They do come out of the oven piping hot so be careful when taking your first bite Stop by their booth and pick up a few! You'll thank me later. These Bolivian Meat Pies, also known as Saltenas are juicy and succulent. However, at about $5 a piece, the price is pretty steep, even by today's standards. They are about the size of a mini cocktail croissant if that puts it into perspective. Spicy Beef and Spicy beef are my favorite, but they also have the regular beef and chicken that are also good. The service is great, and the food is made on site. Also, it's just a dude and his red tent, so can't say much about the ambiance. Anyway, just try it out and see if you think it's worth the price.

Tasty pasties. We usually order the regular chicken and regular beef because the spicy versions are a bit too spicy for us. The chicken and beef look the same, except for a splash of orange color on the chicken. Ask for a loyalty card! They stamp the card once per visit. A fresh salteña contains hot liquid. To eat it safely and cleanly, hold it upright and bite off the tip. Pour the juice into the cardboard tray in which the salteña is served. Then drink the juice from the tray and continue eating.

Saltena Corner was at the Long Beach Vegan Fest and this vendor was at the top of my hit list. They were serving Bolivian Vegan Meat Pies filled with jackfruit, potatoes, caramelized onions, and mushrooms. How was I supposed to resist this!?! http://bit.ly/2JjPC0V From dough to filling, every part about this was super delicious. Be careful biting into it though...they serve it piping hot! A little pricier than I would like it to be. I spent $10 for two empanadas. Yikes! It's totally possible that those were festival prices though. Regardless, I would totally track them down at their other locations to eat them again. So yummy :)

When the guy who works this stand told us that the saltena was going to be juicy, he was not lying! I thought it was going to be juicy like juicy fried chicken or something, but it was more juicy than dumplings - and oh so good. This stand comes out to the Irvine Farmer's Market every Saturday. Service is friendly and really fast, so it's a good place for some quick eats. The amount of filling is ridiculously high it is really flavorful. Not quite sure what else was in that filling because I finished it so fast! Temperature was also just right, which made it very easy to wolf down! https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/saltena-corner-anaheim-5?select=HSo7U35edQVvwrYgAbsa7g&userid=97Dj5h5CQUsWZrEWj3wWOg

I want to begin with an important distinction: my two-star rating is not meant to suggest that the…read morefood was terrible, the service was bad, or the restaurant unpleasant. It reflects something a little harder to quantify: value. The amount a restaurant asks me to pay inevitably creates a certain expectation. Food, service, atmosphere and price don't exist independently of one another; they form a package. And for me, the package simply didn't come together here. There were things I genuinely liked. We sat outside, beneath a corrugated metal covering, and I actually enjoyed the design of the space. The tables and chairs are a refreshing departure from the polished, corporate, "haven't I seen this in twelve other restaurants?" look. And the candle wall at the far end of the patio is simply wonderful--warm, cozy and genuinely beautiful. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the setting or the prices. We each had a beer: an 11.16-ounce can for $10. It was cold, fresh and perfectly drinkable. It also wasn't particularly good. Obviously, the restaurant didn't brew it, but ultimately they chose it, priced it and served it. We also shared the Chicken Empanadas ($18) and Mariscos Fritos ($22). The empanadas were... meh. Nothing particularly wrong with them, but nothing that made me want another one, either. The Mariscos Fritos were the bigger disappointment. The menu promises calamari and shrimp, although I honestly had trouble identifying much of either. There was plenty of fennel, which was far too raw for my taste, and the dish was a considerable distance from what I would describe as "cooked to perfection." And I want to be fair here: nothing tasted spoiled. Nothing appeared to have been fried in old oil. Nothing was inedible. We finished the plate. It simply wasn't enjoyable. The service was perfectly fine and, frankly, perfectly forgettable--and I don't necessarily mean that as criticism. Good service can be a little like music in a movie: sometimes you barely notice it, but you'd certainly notice if it weren't there. Nothing about the service bothered me, and nothing particularly stood out. What finally crystallized my feelings was looking to my right from our table and seeing a parking lot. At one point I was being blinded by the headlights of a car whose driver needed about four attempts to park. Had I been looking at the Caribbean Sea, I might have sipped my $10 canned beer, eaten my rather ordinary appetizers and thought, Well... I'm paying for the whole experience. But I wasn't looking at the Caribbean Sea. I was looking at a parking lot. And perhaps that's the best way I can explain the two stars. Two $10 beers and two appetizers brought us to $60 before tax and tip. That amount, by itself, doesn't offend me. I've happily spent similar amounts elsewhere and walked away thinking, Worth it. Here, I didn't. The food wasn't terrible. The service wasn't bad. The setting had some genuinely lovely touches. And the prices, considered in isolation, aren't outrageous. They simply didn't belong together. For what we ate, where we ate it, and the overall experience we received, I left feeling that what I had paid and what I had received were too far apart. And ultimately, that's what I'm rating.

We got a chance to sit at the bar so it was perfect timing. We got a few tacos, the shrimp, ceviche and the guacamole and the tar tar. The shrimp was super flavorful and was probably the best. Everyone talks about the octopus I think that was my least favorite one. Everything was really fresh and the service was great!
