Bolivian Salteñas are by far the juiciest! Have you tried them yet? Cali Pie Guy takes the traditional meat pies up a few notches. Their unique flavors are bursting with the essence of Bolivia and its culture. They hand select and hand ground all their own meat, carefully measure their spices and they are oven baked at the Brea Farmers Market. I tried... Spicy Beef - not your classic beef Saltena. Slowly simmered in a special blend of spices but with an extra kick of chili pepper. Potatoes, carmelized onions, and a thick beef sauce. Regular Beef - without the chili pepper Flavors: Spicy Beef, Beef, Spicy Chicken, Chicken, and Vegan. Their spicy Vegan is available October - February. These meat pies have a crispy dough. Very juicy and flavorful! They do come out of the oven piping hot so be careful when taking your first bite Stop by their booth and pick up a few! You'll thank me later. Thanks for the rec @enjoybrea Save & Share Brea Farmers Market | 155 S. State College Boulevard Brea, CA 92821 Every Thursday 3 - 7 pm @calipieguyllc

These Bolivian Meat Pies, also known as Saltenas are juicy and succulent. However, at about $5 a piece, the price is pretty steep, even by today's standards. They are about the size of a mini cocktail croissant if that puts it into perspective. Spicy Beef and Spicy beef are my favorite, but they also have the regular beef and chicken that are also good. The service is great, and the food is made on site. Also, it's just a dude and his red tent, so can't say much about the ambiance. Anyway, just try it out and see if you think it's worth the price.

Regular chicken saltena, top bitten off

Tasty pasties. We usually order the regular chicken and regular beef because the spicy versions are a bit too spicy for us. The chicken and beef look the same, except for a splash of orange color on the chicken. Ask for a loyalty card! They stamp the card once per visit. A fresh salteña contains hot liquid. To eat it safely and cleanly, hold it upright and bite off the tip. Pour the juice into the cardboard tray in which the salteña is served. Then drink the juice from the tray and continue eating.

At Long Beach Vegan Fest

Saltena Corner was at the Long Beach Vegan Fest and this vendor was at the top of my hit list. They were serving Bolivian Vegan Meat Pies filled with jackfruit, potatoes, caramelized onions, and mushrooms. How was I supposed to resist this!?! http://bit.ly/2JjPC0V From dough to filling, every part about this was super delicious. Be careful biting into it though...they serve it piping hot! A little pricier than I would like it to be. I spent $10 for two empanadas. Yikes! It's totally possible that those were festival prices though. Regardless, I would totally track them down at their other locations to eat them again. So yummy :)

When the guy who works this stand told us that the saltena was going to be juicy, he was not lying! I thought it was going to be juicy like juicy fried chicken or something, but it was more juicy than dumplings - and oh so good. This stand comes out to the Irvine Farmer's Market every Saturday. Service is friendly and really fast, so it's a good place for some quick eats. The amount of filling is ridiculously high it is really flavorful. Not quite sure what else was in that filling because I finished it so fast! Temperature was also just right, which made it very easy to wolf down! https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/saltena-corner-anaheim-5?select=HSo7U35edQVvwrYgAbsa7g&userid=97Dj5h5CQUsWZrEWj3wWOg

I finally tracked them down! That's a lie. I was planning on going to their Sat Farmer's market stall based on their Instagram at some point. But, I usually go to the farmer's market at the Laguna Hills Mall parking lot on Fridays. Last Friday they were there without me even breaking a sweat! Woo! Now I don't have to make the effort of going to another farmer's market just to get something from them. I got six - 2 spicy beef, 2 spicy chicken, and 2 regular chicken. I got $1 off for getting six and a punchcard (free salteña after you buy ten). You also get a free one if you buy a dozen. Do your math accordingly. I was about to buy a dozen frozen but thought I should buy fresh first to taste test. Well, they're awesome so I'm getting a dozen next time! Eff my low carb diet! How do they compare to La Rancherita or Bebas? They seem a tad smaller though I have yet to do a side by side comparison, they offer spicy, which isn't typical, they taste a bit healthier since they don't use lard, it's not as juicy. and is more convenient for me. It's $2.50 each which isn't tooooo bad. However because they are kinda small I can eat 2-3 in a sitting. How to eat it properly - eat these babies vertically, making sure to stop intermittently to slurp the juice and bite down a bit more, slurp juice, etc. If you can do this without any juice dripping out, you may be an authentic Bolivian! PS They have vegan salteñas, which doesn't typically exist in Bolivia or in LA, so vegans rejoice! PPS One bite may take you back to Bolivia. Two bites may make you want to stay there.

Regular beef saltenas.

Amazeballs. Order enough for the whole family! Just be aware that a large order can take time to make. Order early in your farmers market visit, check out other stalls, and come back to get your food when it's piping hot! I can't go back to regular empanadas anymore. They just don't measure up to these saltenas!

I will say that for being the first one in line, I got my bacon-wrapped hotdog second, so I don't know what's up with the ordering system. Set up outside of the cultural center provides an adequate location for sales, and the hotdog suit was super friendly; however, it may be a health violation as to when it was last washed. However, upon arrival of this dish, I was greeted with a bun filled with oil which was not a particularly enjoyable experience. I bit into it as if I was fighting the bacon because of how chewy it was. the flavor was there and the hotdog was cooked nicely; however after the bacon fat-filled bun I felt so greasy. I would've liked for the bacon to be crispier and the bun to be less oily maybe even toasted. But this is supporting a good cause so I'll give them that but for food, I have to come to terms with saying this place is a 6/10. upon the second bacon-wrapped hotdog I was delighted to see Tristan the head chef get rid of all the oil from the bacon before giving my order out which was nice. I decided to dress it up with some ketchup and I will say the sweetness and acidity of the tomato purée elevated the bacon-wrapped hotdog giving a nice contrast of flavor of the salty hot dog almost cutting some of the grease out. This was a delightful experience but it was not so much better a 7/10 was well deserved with the tomato purée from an American company famously known as "Heinz". I respect the hustle of this family-owned restaurant. but because it's fusion 11/10 would recommend after a midterm again!! I recommendnicely; the combo

I did misinterpret the quote which stated tablecloth for salsa bar and assumed tablecloth's would be provided for the guest tables, but it wasn't a big deal as we had brought our own just in case. The salsa station looked elegant with nice tablecloth and setting and tacos and quesadillas were great. We ordered the pollo, carne asada, and al pastor. Al pastor was easily my favorite, and the salsa verde and guac were on point. We had many guests comment on how good the tacos were, and took business cards for their future events! I've tried different protein options and I have no complaints - the shrimp is flavorful and has a good bite to it, carnitas are so moist, and carne asada is cooked perfectly. The loaded potatoes are soooo good... it's a baked potato with meat, sour cream, guacamole, pico de gallo, and chipotle sauce (depending on which protein option you get). It's so decadent and heavy, but if you're craving some saucy potatoes this is perfect. Side note: the salsas on the side can get pretty spicy. My main complaints are with the wait times and non-transparent prices. A week ago I came here at 7:40PM on Friday (they open at 7:30PM) and I ordered a potato el bandido with shrimp - it took 25 minutes! Now, it was absolutely delicious, but it was wild to me how long it took for a single item. Besides that, I don't think anyone's ever a fan of places that have their prices hidden. I've been going to this spot for over a year and they've always had their prices covered. I know I can ask the cashier when I get there, but there are typically lines and I feel bad taking up more time asking for the price of multiple options. Overall though, good spot for tacos and other options. There are like two benches if you plan on eating there, and there's a whole additional parking lot if you're coming during busy hours. Cashier and workers are polite and helpful. Definitely check it out!

Their bacon-wrapped hot dog and signature piñabero sauce were unforgettable. The meat was tender, juicy, and absolutely delicious. Fast forward to a few years later: I was hosting another baby shower at a venue in Huntington Beach. Even though they didn't have a license to operate in the city--and their pricing was higher--I still really wanted them. I even offered to cover the cost of the business license so they could cater my event. But the day of the event was a total letdown. The staff arrived late and started cooking in foil trays, which immediately raised questions from my guests. I kept trying to hype them up, saying "just wait, this is the best I've ever had!"--but when the food came out, it was disappointing. Tacos and hot dogs were bland, and even the "signature" sauce couldn't save it. Guests were making comments like, "Taco Bell would've been better." To make matters worse, it was so embarrassing that my guests ended up filling up on the pizzas I had ordered for the kids. Since then, I've had friends and family recommend other taco caterers, which kind of stings given how much I once vouched for Mr. Hot Bunz. Really disappointed. I truly hope they can bring back the quality they once had, but I won't be using them again.
