Well we had been looking forward to trying Caffe Prego and got there at 8:08 pm. The restaurant closes at 9 pm and the sigh on the door said "Open and underneath Aperto". We walked in and waited to be seated for about a full minute. Ok. She's busy. No problem. Well when the hostess/waitress approached us with not a trace of a smile, she informed us that they were closed. I said I thought they were opened until 9 pm. She said "we've been slow all day and decided to close at 8 pm." I said "I think you need to change your "Open/Aperto" sign on the door because it shows that you are still opened. family went here on the last day of service for the 2022 season. the menu was very limited and even within the short list, many ingredients had to be substituted. with that said, the resulting dishes of chicken sandwiches, red pasta, and salads were less than impressive even after an hour wait with only 4 other guests. perhaps a reprinted last day menu could have helped reset expectations. kids had Gelato for dessert, about a dozen of flavors to choose from. will try to give it a chance again next year. read more

A great place. More affordable and casual than most places in Ogunquit. The owner greeted us when we walked in and advised us on the best things on the menu. You can really see that he puts his heart into the place. The staff is very friendly and works very hard to keep things clean and moving along for the customers. My wife and I ate at Caffe Prego a couple years ago on a day trip to Ogunquit and decided to give it another try yesterday for lunch. You have to go up probably 10 steps to get to the front of the restaurant, so that patio is set back and elevated above street level providing a nice perch from which to people watch while dining outside. The menu is limited, but the food is quite good. We ordered the chicken panini and vegetable lasagna to split, and we enjoyed both very much. They have a couple of different wines by the glass, and their bottle prices are quite reasonable. Wine snobs might be disappointed at the limited selection, but we were each able to find something we liked. Caffe Prego is a nice spot for a relaxed, outdoor meal and/or a couple of drinks that won't break the bank. read more

Wonderful restaurant for Italian cuisine. Fast, friendly service. Live music. Excellent outdoor patio seating with air conditioning. Menu features quickie choices like panini and other sandwiches. Pizza seemed really popular there. They had some excellent pricer entrees both traditional and eclectic. I ordered the chilled watermelon soup with fresh raspberries and blueberries. DIVINE!!! What an excellent Summer appetizer. For my main course I chose the eggplant ricotta sandwich. My companion chose the meatball sandwich with the spinach/fig/blueberry/avocado salad. Everything was delicious. We had room enough for dessert so we joined everyone else in ordering the homemade gelato. (They have over 27 flavors!). They give you samples to help you choose. We had been going to Ogunquit for over 15+ years and have seen this patio but never were craving Italian. After our trip yesterday however we would recommend to give it a chance. The pasta dishes were great - the pasta itself was very fresh and both the Tuscan shrimp and bolognese were delicious. My father had the eggplant entree which was perfectly cooked. I went there a few weeks ago with my Dad as a last minute choice. My Dad has been there before and had been trying to get me to go for a long time now. The main reason why my Dad loves it there is because it reminds him of the cafe's in Rome that we used to go to all the time during our vacation. The owner (Dino) is from Italy and he has really brought the true essence of an little cafe to Maine. I had the Caprese salad which was very fresh and had argula with it, which gave the tomatoes and the mozzarella an extra kick. My Dad had the lasagna which i thought was a little pricey for how much you get, but it was so good that it didn't matter. My favorite part was the gelato. Since leaving Rome I haven't been to a place where there were tons of options for homemade gelato. They had about 15 options and this gelato is the closet to the real thing like Rome's. Dino got all the equipment from Rome and had it shipped over here. All together it was a nice evening, great food, great dessert and great atmosphere. Went there on a very busy Sunday afternoon - I had the caprese salad and it was very good and fresh. The dressing was good - but I would rather have a drizzle of oil and a drizzle of balsamic - not a balsamic dressing. And we split a pizza that was thin and doughy and delicious! Today I tried the Pasta Bolognese...highly suggest it to those liking a nice meaty sauce with some kick to it. Went here for lunch. It was a good experience. Our waiter was friendly, the staff was busy but attentive, and it was nice to see the owner out and about interacting with customers and even speaking Italian. The food was really good. We ordered a pizza and a panini and both were great. The gelato was fantastic and so was the lemoncello. Suggestions would be that the wine menu be a bit more expansive, bring in some real Italian wines. Also, perhaps add a Sangria, would be perfect on a hot day on the patio. read more

This was our first stop in Ogunquit and we were not disappointed. The food and the service was top notch. After a wait at the bar for a table to become available we settled in for a nice dinner on the patio. The chicken parmesan was a big hit, as was the Bolognese and Veal dishes. Instead, we got bland, unappetizing pizza and pastas, and had irritating "Italian" music blasting in our ears, even after we asked them to turn it down. We have been here many times the food is good the service is fun and friendly. The owner is hard working and attentive........but on our last visit a group of people came in with three golden retrievers an adult and two puppies and held the puppies at the table with their feet resting on the table. I think something should have been done to explain to these people that it was not acceptable.... the owner was aware of the situation....we left without a second glass of wine or dessert. read more

This is a great place to go for pizza and the nice outdoor patio. I went there for lunch with three other people. I ordered the entree salad with chicken. It was tasty, but it wasn't particularly big and did not have chicken for what I would consider a $15.50 entree salad. My friends ordered a side salad version which seemed to be about the same amount of salad piled higher on a smaller plate for about $7. Our server wasn't particularly friendly either although some of the other staff that came to the table were much more friendly. My friend wasn't impressed with his prosciutto pannini and said it seemed like regular ham. I tasted the pizza which was very good and really big-a much better value. read more

Long wait for food. Probably about 40 minutes. I had meat lasagna which had too much Parmesan cheese. Overpowering. My daughter had the margarita pizza. The toppings were ok but the crust was poor. Pizza is personal and crust takes skill. This crust was like out of a mix quality. My wife had chicken Parmesan which she liked but it was an interpretation. No tomato sauce. It said that there was eggplant but none came with the dish. They did not check with us to see if our food was good. You have to like al fresco dining since most of the tables are outside under an awning. It was pouring outside so the al fresco thing was actually a little scary. Had a great meal last night. Walking through town and trying to figure out where to eat. We had walked by a million times over the 19 years we have been coming to Ogunquit. There was a trio playing some great music so we stopped in. Had a beer and appetizer. App was the bruschetta. And it was really good. Then dinner. My wife had spaghetti and meatballs. Best meatballs she's ever had. In 19 yrs of marriage it is the first meal I've ever seen her finish. Loved it. I had a panini and it too was really good. Never in my life had I been treated with such disrespect and disregard in a place in my life! The self-entitled owner was rude beyond words and clearly was pathetically upset because his ridiculous cafe wasn't getting any business compared to the overflowing nearby restaurants and cafes. Despite the low flow of customers, the wait staff took 15 minutes to seat me as I patiently waited in the front of the restaurant. I explained to the slow moving waiter that 5 of my friends would be joining shortly in 20 mins or so. It took him about 5 minutes to process what that meant in terms of finding me an accessible table that could comfortably seat 1 but shortly fit 5 others. Being a thoughtful friend, I decided to wait to order food with my friends and take the opportunity to make a quick call, fire up my computer to use the WiFi there, and get a head start on my coffee. The seat I occupied had terrible reception and dropped my call 2X so when I rolled over to an empty table (50% of the tables were empty which should have been a clear sign!) next to me, it caught the owner's eye and the commanded that I could not possibly take over 2 tables. I politely told him I moved over because of the cell reception at the other table and was finishing a call. I told him I would move over shortly and would gladly get up if someone needed the table. After my call, I sat at my computer and plugged it in the wall when the owner again came to me and said brashly "Look at what you're doing! My staff will trip over that!" I felt like I was back in the third grade and getting in trouble for chewing gum in class as the owner towered over me in a very harrassing manner. He screamed at me that his waitstaff would trip over that cord and that I should move to a different table. I started to gather my things immediately and he barraged me with the commands to move. I told him I was getting up...it was as if his hearing aids' battery suddenly died and he went blind at the same time. I said one more time "I AM moving" and lifted my computer from the table...then the next thing you know he commanded me to leave the premises. I was happy to comply and leave that nightmare of a place. Upon my departure, I noticed that I was the only Asian person in the place...perhaps this is a pattern of his ...not to be overlooked by the BBB! read more

We went here last night with our children and were less than happy. Ordered bruschetta and pizzas. The bruschetta lacked flavor and the ingredients were not fresh nor cut up. It was a big plate of tomatoes. This was the worst bruschetta I have ever tasted. The pizza was very doughy and had way too much cheese. The prosciutto on the pizza was chunks of traditional ham not prosciutto. The figs were dried and not fresh. Additionally, there are no beers on tap or IPA selections. Caffe Preggo is excellent! The service was great, really on top of everything and kept everything moving quickly. The menu was excellent, with a wide variety of apps, entrees, pizzas, etc. Pretty much anyone could find something they like here. We had the chilled mango pineapple soup and the creamy Italian onion soup, both of which were excellent. We then had the Angola pizza (lobster) and the fig and prosciutto pizza. Everything was great. The only reason i give this 4 stars is that I've had better pizza. The atmosphere was really nice--definitely sit outside! Great prices. Also they don't take reservations, but if there's a wait they'll put your name down on a list and then text you when your table is ready so you can walk around in the mean time and not have to carry a buzzer! read more

Based on the food alone I would rate this five stars. My wife had the pasta with meat sauce and it was amazing! I had a pizza which was loaded with fresh toppings. The only issue I had was with the waitress. Although kind she didn't write anything down (as a restaurant owner myself this is a huge pet peeve of mine). After I asked her to please write our order down she refused (trust me the owner/ customer could care less about your memorization skills). Low and behold she forgot my appetizer which I was really looking forward too. My pizza also didn't come with extra cheese and cooked extra as I had asked. Recently while vacationing in Ogunquit we stopped at Caffe Prego, and glad we did. This is a nice casual venue overlooking Main St in Ogunquit. It has a very nice Italian menu and some wonderful looking pizzas (nest time) To begin, their "small plate"appetizers were absolutely delicious and just the right size. The Service is impeccable. The Red Snapper special was excellent. I had the Veal Parmigiana special and it was superb. As for desert, they make their own gelato. Wish I could have had more of that! What a surprising find! I was truly not expecting such a tasty Italian place in ogunquit Maine. The food was excellent and service was fantastic. I'd saw on par with north end or providence.
