Caffé Prego is an authentic Italian restaurant and caffé that opened in Ogunquit, Maine in June 2006. It was founded by restaurateurs and life partners Donato Tramuto and Jeff Porter. The partners have owned, operated and sold a number of restaurants in the Ogunquit area, including Five - O and the Inn on Shore Road. Caffé Prego, named after the couple's golden retriever who died in 2005, was their second restaurant to open. Initially they only served small plates such as panini, salads, desserts, gelato and coffee. When the partners saw a great demand for authentic Italian dishes, they decided to expand the menu to include pizza, traditional Italian entrees, wine, beer and craft cocktails. In 2021, Tramuto and Porter sold the restaurant to longtime employees and executive chefs Donovan Fraser and Zach Crosby. My extended family and I visited Caffé Prego this summer while we were on a week-long vacation in Maine. After spending the afternoon exploring Ogunquit, we set out to find a place for dinner. Unfortunately, we didn't have a reservation anywhere and a lot of the restaurants were packed. When we tried Caffé Prego, the staff told us that there would be a short wait but that they could accommodate us. For cocktails, I had an "Amarena Old Fashioned" (muddled Amarena cherry, orange bitters, bourbon, amaretto, soda) while my wife had a "Tuscan Sunset" (citrus vodka, blood orange liqueur, fresh lime, cranberry). For entrees, I had the "Tuscan Shrimp" (sautéed tiger shrimp, cherry tomatoes, limoncello butter sauce, basil parmesan, tagliatelle), my wife had the "Lobster Cannelloni" (Maine lobster, asparagus, ricotta, mozzarella, fresh pasta, marsala cream, shaved parmesan), our older son had the "Kids Tagliatelle with Meatballs & Marinara", and our younger son had the "Kids Tagliatelle with Butter". We all really enjoyed our food; our other family members enjoyed their dishes too! For dessert, my sons and I were in the mood for that really delicious-looking gelato that we saw in the display case. I had "Limoncello Sorbetto", my older son had "Cookies & Cream", and my younger son had "Chocolate". Between a beautiful location, friendly and helpful staff, and out-of-this-world food, my whole extended family had a memorable experience at Caffé Prego! We highly recommend them to visitors to Ogunquit!

Everything about our dinner here was amazing. We sat on the upper patio and had a lovely view of the beach peaking out from behind some buildings. Our server Catherine was super friendly and provided us great suggestions. We had a pizza with ricotta and pepperoni on it, as well as a nice fall salad. Both items were amazing, but the pizza really stood out. There is not a lot of good pizza in this area, in my opinion, so we were really happy to find this spot!

I really love eating at Caffe Prego when visiting Ogunquit. They have a nice covered porch that is heated or cooled as needed and have rotating (daily?) specials that are in-season and very delicious. A good mix of local seafood and Italian menu options and their prices are very fair- lower than average in the area.

Loved the gelato whoopie pie! We had a great time sitting out on the covered patio and enjoying the outdoor weather! Would come back here!

Great Italian dining in OGT! Haddock piccata is exemplary and the meatball sandwich was fire. The chips are great, Italian seasoning nowhere else. My favorite part of the experience was gelato and sorbet afterwards. That along with Big Daddy's makes a diverse ice cream scene on shore road. Eat on the patio if you can, great atmosphere. Good service also. Must go too!!

Stopped in after a long walk along the coast, a total must-see by the way! The cafe staff were friendly and quick to sit us down and serve us which was a huge plus. Some of the food we ordered, however, lacked a little bit of flavor. The margarita pizza tasted a bit bland which was a let down, my boyfriends panini was pretty okay, he had the Saltimbocca panini.

We stopped here for an early dinner and it was fantastic! My boyfriend and I like to try chicken parmesan from a lot of different places we travel to and this one was like no other! The chicken was lightly breaded with the perfect amount of cheese but the sauce was the true star of the show; extremely flavorful and not too heavy. The outdoor seating right on the main street makes for a fun and easy hang out! Service was also spot-on and they seem to have some great daily specials!

This year on one of the occasions we went, we happened to try to get in after 9pm, the staff was clearly in close up mode so we felt bad, but David and the bartender insisted we come in for our nightcap. We had our drinks and left, also as usual the drinks were very good. We returned the next day for dinner, we started with the provolone slab appetizer, then I had the lobster risotto, which was loaded with lobster and really tasty. My wife had scallops, and we both enjoyed an amazing martini. David, our server, and the rest of the staff were all amazing as usual!!

The ravioli dough thickness was thicker/denser than I like, but the cheesy filling didn't fall out which is the key to a good ravioli. I also thought it was crazy that vodka sauce was a $5 up-charge, which is the highest sauce up-charge I've ever seen (and it needed more cream). Valet parking is required and the lot was like a zoo, but the valet team was working SO hard to accommodate the crowds and their efficiency deserves an award. All the staff hustled and we appreciated their efforts on a busy Saturday night.

Once seated, it took quite a while to even receive water, though oddly our drinks arrived relatively quickly--the one bright spot of the evening. Honestly, those drinks were much needed given how long it took for the food to come out. Our meals took well over an hour, despite the restaurant not being particularly busy. When the food finally did arrive, it came out sporadically, with dishes served at different times rather than together. The quality was equally disappointing--the salad was warm (which should be a crime in itself), and the pasta was bland and lukewarm, as were the other dishes our family ordered. While this could have been written off as an off night, recent reviews suggest this has become a pattern. It's unfortunate to say, but this season does not seem to be their year. What made the experience even more frustrating was the lack of response from management. Staff were clearly aware of the delays, yet no one came to address the situation, offer an apology, or provide any form of compensation. There are plenty of great local spots to enjoy a nice evening out--I would strongly recommend exploring those instead. Do yourself a favor and keep driving past this place.

We sat at a table by the window on the first floor. We overheard that there is an upstairs bar, not sure if they also seat folks for dinner there. We were able to place an order right after getting settled. We enjoyed the Sun mocktail, charred beet salad, mac and cheese, fried codd sandwich, steak frites, and corn ravioli (without the pancetta). My spouse is gluten free and I am vegetarian so we are always looking for restaurants that can accommodate both. The charred beet salad was good but I think dressed a bit too heavily. I thought the corn ravioli and sun mocktail were both great. The kids (ages 1.5 and 5) liked the Mac and cheese and fried cod sandwich. They did not have any appropriate booster seats for the 1.5 year old so my spouse held him. My spouse loved the steak frites but I think wished had a few more "frites" given the amount of interest from the younger crowd. Our waiter was wonderful and also brought some orange slices from the bar for the kids. We were very grateful. We decided to go nearby for ice cream after dinner, but I heard there is a dessert menu.

Gosh, you just hope you made a memorable choice for the right reasons. We did - we both felt we not only received value for our dining dollars, we felt cared for by the staff and satiated by the kitchen. People like sitting outside - so the reservations reflected that and we could only be seated inside. Was not a disappointment to be seated inside. I highly recommend this restaurant. I had a steak sandwich and my dining partner had a chicken sandwich. Both were really tasty and well prepared. We only had water to drink and that was not a problem. Our order was simple: a salad, a pizza, and a side of meatballs. What made the experience especially frustrating was watching neighboring tables receive their salads within about 20 minutes while we continued to wait. The table next to us was served three refills of wine during that time. Our waitress repeatedly attended to nearby tables but did not check in with us, explain the delay, or offer an apology. Even after refilling our water, she said nothing about the status of our food. When we spoke with the manager, the response was simply, "We're busy." There was no apology, meaningful concern, or apparent effort to address the situation. Restaurants get busy, but two hours of waiting, visibly unequal attention, poor communication, and an unapologetic response from management made this a deeply disappointing experience. Interestingly, once we were finished, it did not take long at all for the waitress to clear the table. I would not recommend this restaurant to families with children, or to anyone who expects to be treated with the same care and consideration as the tables around them.
