I have gone to Cafein on several occasions. Their salads, coffee and sandwiches are spectacular. The Sausage sandwich is amazing. It is jammed packed with flavors. It has the Asian sauce to add kick and personality and avocado to provide some creaminess. I also have ordered in the past a smoked salmon salad which was filling without making you feel like you ate something that will stick to your midsection and give you high blood pressure. Popped into Cafein during a recent visit to Chantilly and I must say, this little café tucked away in Northern Virginia is absolutely amazing. They specialize in desserts and drinks that you can find at most cafés; however, what sets this place apart are their signature flavors. The rosewater iced latte provided a delicious, lightly sweet, and flowery refreshing experience; perfect for a hot summer day. I also got a slice of their matcha green tea flavored cheesecake and layer cake. Each of them were amazing, quite arguably the best dessert I've had from a bakery. If I lived in Northern Virignia, I would definately make this place a stop every morning. read more

I've been here couple times for lack of any coffee shops near by and the fact that one of the owners was a well known barista (won some latte art competition) according to my friends. Every time I come in, I greet them with "hi, how are you?" with no replies from the staff. After I place my order and pay, they like to look at their tablet to see if I tip. I always tip 20%, but recently stopped tipping here due to their lack of service. When my order was ready, the barista would just slide my coffee across the counter top and I thank them as s/he walks away without a word. I don't know if they pull their espressos too late but their coffee always taste sour. As many mentioned on here, the space is always packed with people taking up space and turning it into their office space that I have to take my coffee with me and can never sit. I've found myself here killing time after work before heading home because traffic is awful heading back in to MD. It's a great cafe. There is more than enough parking located in the front of the establishment. Good amount of tables for customers to hAngout, enjoy some coffee and unwind. The drink menu isnt the biggest, but ill say they do them quite well. I've tried the chai tea latte, green tea latte, and hot chocolate. So far my favorite drink is the green tea latte, good amount of sweetness and great temperature! The chai tea latte was too sWeet for my taste, bUt if you like it super sweet then try it out. I thought the hot chocolate was fine, nothing out of this world, but if you're in the mood for it, why not? The staff is always polite and welcoming. I've yet to see it extremely busy like a sttarbucks, but that's something I love about this place. It's very much a cafe vibe, not super busy or loud. I usually stop in and read a book on the comfy seAts they have by the front. When work is a little hectic, I'll leave the office and work here. WiFi is available but it's not the greatest. Also, at&t service in the back of the place is very scarce. Verizon is enough to get by. Would I recommend this cafe? Yes. Nice vibes, good menu, random location I think its a bit of an odd location, doesn't hurt it for me but keeps me from going that often. Feels like a good place to sit around and work. I haven't seen many places that have good latte art, so I'm impressed by their artistic abilities (I've tried to learn how to do latte art and the people who can do it well make it look way easier than it is)!. I had a rose latte and a slice of the cinnamon crumb cake-- the rose latte was interesting because it's actually a floral taste. It was a little too sweet for my liking, but you can order it with less syrup which is what I'll be doing next time. The cinnamon crumb cake was crumbly and delicious. They heated it up for me and it was a perfect pairing with the coffee. The best part though, is the ambiance. This is the perfect café to go to if you need to study or just catch up with a friend you haven't seen in a while. There's not a ton of seating space, but enough. It's just a very cozy place where I can settle down and get some work done, all the while drinking some great coffee and food. read more

I stopped by on a Sunday around 12:15 in September 2017. The café was pretty busy; I think there was a small lunch crowd, but most of the tables looked like they were occupied by people studying. Although there weren't any tables available when I got there, some customers were using a 4-person table as a sort of communal table, so I did snag a seat there. When I departed about 30 minutes later, more seats and tables had opened up, so I probably just came at a peak time. The café had a nice atmosphere and a good mix of window seating, plush chairs, and small tables, with a few 4-person tables near the back. It was a bit noisier than I would have wanted for a study location, but it seemed very popular for that purpose so that might be a matter of personal tolerance. There were 2 unisex bathrooms; I didn't have to wait long to use one even though it was busy and the bathrooms were big, clean, and well supplied. I ordered a small rose latte to stay. It came out pretty quickly and the latte art was pretty exquisite. I really enjoyed the drink; it had a nice, noticeable rose flavor. I would definitely come back and have it again, or try any of the other drinks on the menu. The staff were friendly and I appreciated that they asked if you wanted the drink to go or to stay, as a lot of cafés seem to default to disposable cups unless you say otherwise, even if they do have to stay mugs. There was a small area to bus dishes near the trash can and they seemed to be diligent about emptying it pretty frequently. Y'all...hands down my favorite cafe in the area. All of their food is so good! I've tried their breakfast sandwiches which are an awesome fusion of Asian and American cuisine. Their desserts are delicious--not too sweet. My favorites are the lemon tart and the earl gray cake. And their sandwiches are good too! All of their food is really fresh and high quality. My only complaint is that they aren't open late on weekdays if they stayed open as late as Chateau de Chantilly I would go way more often after work! They also have delicious sandwiches; I highly recommend the fresh mozzarella on ciabatta. Hands down, best coffee in the DC metro area and I have tried alot of coffee places having lived in DC/Virginia for 15 + years. This place is consistently good and the baristas are excellent at their craft. I also love the food, simply delicious lunch and breakfast options. I really love their breakfast bagel sandwiches! Another bonus is their awesome app, where you can place your order and have everything ready to pick up in 10 mins. The food is always fresh and hot. I quickly stopped in for a an Iced Da Vant on my way to run some errands and I love this drink. It's like a latte with half/half and Cafein made sweetner. The espresso had a nice smoky after taste that was complemented by the half/half and sweetner. The drink wasn't overly sweet and I really enjoyed the smokiness. This drink did not stay in the cup very long. I'll be back to try their sweets and for more Da Vant. read more

I drink mostly black coffee, but I got their devant coffee and it was delish! It's on the sweeter side, but also has a bitterness after the sip. I would def. recommend this! Have heard great things about this place and then finally came with a friend to catch up and do some work together. It definitely lived up to the hype! I got the butterscotch latte and it was SO GOOD. It was very creamy with a layer of thick foam and cinnamon on top. It was the perfect balance of sweetness and coffee. My friend got a hot latte in a mug, and he really enjoyed it too! The atmosphere was nice with ample seating for everyone and free wifi. Lots of people came through for food, so I have to try out their food items next time! The workers are nice and were very inviting. However, not as good as the one in Centreville. I got the same thing I got before, the strawberry yogurt smoothie. I found a chunk in mine and wasn't really happy about it. I don't like to complain about a mistake like that because I know the pain of trying to blend frozen fruits but I just overall didn't enjoy this smoothie as much as I did the first time. Ohmagawd!!! What a find. It's tucked away in a strip mall with a tiny little sign that does not do the establishment or the coffee justice!! They serve Stumptown coffee which is is Incredible. Strong and smooth!! There was quite some line when I arrived but they had sufficient staff all of whom were polite, cheerful and more than happy to answer all your questions. As a result the line moved quickly. No one felt rushed or annoyed (unlike some other places hint hint) They also serve what look to be tasty treats from Simply Desserts. We were on a shopping mission otherwise I might have dallied for a while to sample several delectables!! I can't wait to go back and try one of everything! read more

So I will be honest: I have been to Cafein twice. The first time I was disappointed, but after the second visit, I'm ready to take that back. Drinks: So during my first visit, I ordered a drip coffee with soy milk. It tasted a little burnt to me and didn't have as much soy as I wanted, so I went to the counter to ask for a little more. The barista was very nice about it, but poured almond milk into my coffee instead of soy milk. Overall, just wasn't impressed. During my second visit, I wanted an iced coffee and asked the barista if she had any iced coffee options that weren't cold brew. She was friendly and suggested several options. I opted for an iced americano with soy milk, which tasted amazing. My friend ordered a latte and also enjoyed it. I also appreciate that they have water and cups available for customers to take freely. Food: Cafein does sell some sandwiches, though I haven't tried any of them yet. Seating: I am amazed at how crowded this cafe is, regardless of the day or time. Most tables were full during both times that I came in, but was able to grab a seat if i scanned while ordering and waiting for my drink. The cafe is very charming and modern. There are tables, a bar, and soft leathers chairs available (no outdoor seating though). I appreciate their chemistry element decor that spells out "Cafein" on the wall. Just wonderful! I've been wanting to try this place out for a while and finally popped in today. There's a good amount of seating when your first walk in then a few more down past the register. I was greeted upon arrival and everyone was pretty smiley. I got an iced honey cinnamon latte and a turkey pesto on ciabatta. The latte was refreshing and right amount of sweetness. The sandwich was huge and was filled with fresh veggies. At first I thought $9 was a lot, but then I saw how big the sandwich was and it was totally worth it. They have great quality to go boxes and a nice logo sticker - they invested in their products and it shows. Almost all the tables were taken with people on their laptops or friends chatting, but I happily sat on a comfortable leather chair. I will definitely return to try a sweet dessert. read more

Tucked away in an area below Dulles airport - quite far, but on the map it is located below the airport. This place is in a shopping center not too far away from the main roads and as the place looks small on the outside, it was quite spacious on the inside. Even though I say it is quite spacious, it also has some popularity to it so seating was actually quite hard to come by during the time that we visited. I do like the decor and the seating arrangements compared to other coffee shops and the Americano that I chose to taste was quite good. Since this place is such a nice place to sit and relax, there are a lot of people coming here to study - quite possible that there is a university nearby. Googled it, yes there is (Virginia Christian University and George Mason not too far away). Right on the money here! Anyways, there are a lot of people choosing to study here so you can kind of imagine how quiet this place is. Besides seating, this is kind of an ideal cafe/coffee shop. Nice simple decor with the sound being minimal and other people studying. Wish it was a larger place with more seating, but what can you do. The white mocha was more sweet than expected though so not all menu choices were great. I would recommend sticking with the classics. read more

The baristas here are true artists and both the cold brew and latte that we ordered were excellent. The food menu is limited to sandwiches and quiches but they had plenty of greens and fresh ingredients on them. Last but not least-- that matcha cheesecake. Cafein is a really cute coffee shop that I love to go to, especially since it's so close to where I live. The drinks here not only taste great, but they look great too! The food is good, I've had their egg and cheese croissant, which comes out nice and hot with the cheese melting each time. I've also had their matcha green tea cheesecake, great especially when you want to indulge in something sweet. The portion is huge! It's nice because you can either share with a friend or always save some for later (: The space inside the coffee shop is nice and roomy and I find myself going there often when I'm trying to do work or study. There are plenty of tables and chairs with outlets by each. However, earlier in the day, before noon, it gets pretty crowded so plan for that if you want a table. Parking in the shopping center is very easy and I've never had a problem finding a spot. Overall, great cafe for food, drinks, and just a place to hang out! read more

This place is perfectly fine for working or studying. Prices are reasonable and environment is comfortable and spacious. WiFi works. It's solidly 3 stars + 1 for Virginia standards. Things to improve: Coffee is served scalding hot sometimes. They might use stumptown but at these temperatures it hardly matters. I've had the latte once with oat milk, which I have heard they make in-house without sugar. But the Latte tasted quite sweet. Maybe they add sugar in the latte but I wouldn't know. After that I switched to americanos. If I order again Ill ask for no sugar or use a different milk. Every time I order a hot drink I get two cups stacked together. Since I come often I started saving the second cup to reuse. When I asked the person at the register to use my cup, they threw it away and grabbed two brand new cups without a second thought. I was kind of aghast. I could have brought the cup home to recycle or reuse so that was a shame. Businesses should be thinking about environmental impact these days. Will probably just start bringing my own mug when I can. read more

The only reason they get four stars is because it's pretty chilly in here and it's June. I had to go back inside my car to get a jacket. Of course, this may be a personal problem but it was pretty cold in there. Also, the coffee was just a tad bit pricey. Overall it was a neat coffee shop in a city where there aren't enough (mainly Starbucks and Dunkin). The staff was friendly as well! And it was a very clean space.
