Various baklava: vanilla cream, pistachio with lemon simple syrup, orange zest mixed nuts, lemon ginger honey jam with mixed nuts
Ivonnie S.

Cafe Velora is a family-owned business with delicious freshly-made baklava. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with multiple display cases filled with a wide variety of baklava. It was pretty difficult to narrow down what we were going to get - we wanted to try everything, it all looked so good! We ended up trying: + Pistachio with lemon simple syrup: this one was my favorite! Fragrant, balanced level of sweetness, delicious. I would definitely get this one to bring back home to my parents. + Vanilla cream: this one had a sweet thick cream (cream cheese based, no nuts I think) inside the layers of filo pastry. It was a bit larger than the others. First time trying one like this. + Lemon ginger honey jam with mixed nuts: a bit on the sweeter side due to the jam, but not overwhelmingly sweet. They make the cream on top in-house as well. + Orange zest & mixed nuts I loved how the filo pastry layers were still crispy and flaky. The mom who helped us was really kind as well. Excited to go back and try more kinds of their baklava! Note that there isn't any indoor seating, but there were two tables and some chairs set up right outside when we visited.

The pastries were delicious. Every. single. One. My favorite was either the Nutella or Pb&J. Brought them home for my girlfriend and she loved them. The workers were very nice and attentive as well. I liked how bright it was inside. Definitely letting my friends and family know about this place.

Iced cherry late - amazing Pistachio, citrus, lemon, cherry baklava

Super excited that this cafe opened in our area. Lovely small business owned by a mom and son duo who are incredibly friendly and passionate about their shop. We tried a couple of lattes. If you like fruit lattes, the cherry iced is a MUST TRY. All of their baklavas were amazing. Highly recommend trying this spot.

I am very much in favor of giving small businesses a try so when my wife had a craving for something sweet velora looked like a great option . The service is very friendly and she got a mixed nuts baklava which unfortunately was not great - not enough filling , not enough honey , and a little too expensive (4$ for quite a small square ). We might try it again in the future but right now they still need to improve

This is a mom and son owned spot specializing in homemade baklavas. They have classics like pistachio, but also feature seasonal specials like chocolate cherry almond and their newest- pumpkin spice. If you love cherries like I do, you'll want to add their special cherry latte too. I loved how light and crispy each baklava layer was, and they try to make everything "not too sweet". Not a baklava fan? They also have cakes, pastries, and fresh sandwiches to go too. Service is super friendly. They have a little bench inside and two small tables outside for a quick stop. Be sure to check them out if you're along Haight Street!

A lovely new addition to the neighborhood. Great bite sized baklava, delicious but not overly sweet.

Scan the qr code to order and they'll bring your drinks/food up to you I thought the food was quite good. I ordered the Galbi Patty Melt which came in the form of a croissant sandwich that had a great size and flavors. A friend ordered the kimchi fried rice. The portions and flavors on both were solid for a cafe. Definitely worth getting some food if youre planning on staying for a while. For coffee, i ordered the sohn signature cream top. This was a little underwhelming, as i felt the espresso didnt come through as strongly as i would have liked. The cream top also did not have much flavor which made it feel more like a normal latte than a signature item. Not bad, but not a must have either. Overall will come back. Good vibes, and a solid place to work from. There are some tables upstairs that are right under the AC, so it can be a little breezy

I have also had their Mt. Tam Basque cheesecake before, which is incredibly rich and decadent. It is perfect for enjoying a few bites at a time, though it is a bit too heavy for me to finish in one sitting. The yuzu americano drink was not my favorite pairing. It tasted carbonated and sour, which I guess true to the description, but it just was not for me! Friendly service! Convenient to place online orders through their website. Street parking only.

But Katsu is really becoming the new hype of the day for Japanese food, following the Sushi, Ramen, Japanese Curry, Katsu trend. So I came in with a critical view. I feel like Yoshoku in general may be next but I yet again digress. The box sandwich came in a cute little box. The inside was packed so I couldn't get a chance to fully appreciate the cafe, but the service was nice though the pay line may have moved slower than hoped. I'll say this. This is "the" best katsu sando in the bay. The katsu is crispy, but little on the softer side. But this hardness matches perfectly with the absolutely tender, soft, juicy pork wrapped inside. I'm looking at the menu again and it all makes sense. The pork has been in shio koji, making the meat ever so tender while adding the subtle but complicated marinated flavor. The cabbage is plenty, but not over packed to take away from the main Katsu flavor. What really perfects it for me, was not only the sweet and savory katsu sauce, but the mayo with dash of I think a karashi mustard. That slight tingle, the perfect kick gives a powerful awakening of flavor that really sets the it apart. This is art, an artisan. Culinary art is the refuge no raging rampant AI slop "art" can ever hope to touch. Until the day we get some cyborg implant to our brain into gustatory, olfactory functions. Even then, I don't think any tasteless tech bro are hopeless to create anything unique or beautiful.
