Cafe Spaghetti came onto my radar after reading a review on NY Eater, so I decided to try it out during my last NYC visit. I went for an early evening dinner, and bar seating was easy to find for one (they do offer outdoor seating, and given the size of the restaurant, I would definitely recommend making reservations if you are not dining solo). Service was fast and friendly, and I decided to try a pasta dish along with an appetizer. The fried artichokes (carciofi fritti) were lightly battered and paired well with the aioli. Even though this was a fried appetizer, it wasn't heavy and left me enough space for my orecchiette entree. The combination of pasta, sausage, and broccoli rabe was well-made, with the pasta texture holding up excellently in combination with the heartier ingredients. When I visited, they offered a limited alcohol selection of beers, wines, and aperitifs (the Pasubio Highball was quite refreshing). I did not have room for dessert, but I would definitely try one if I visited again! read more

Go before the secret is out. My wife and I just had a fantastic meal at Cafe Spaghetti on a Friday night. We ate in the Front Porch, although the Backyard Garden is top notch. But the front porch was still awesome, and just coming back from Amalfi, this place had great Italian vibes throughout. And luckily, we loved our waitress Magda! She was prompt, pleasant, attentive (in just the right way), kind and steered us in the proper direction in terms of menu. Consider yourself lucky if you have her serving you. I told her we're coming back in two weeks, and hope to have her serve us again. Valana as the hostess was also kind and helpful. It's a popular restaurant (and getting more popular every day) and she deftly handled the eager patrons. The food was some of the best Italian food we've had in recent memory. Excellent pastas (no surprise considering the Bar Primi experience). Don't sleep on the ricotta ravioli, we weren't dead set on it and it turned out to be our favorite. Loved the penne with crab meat and meatballs too (great red sauce). Delicious arugula salad and fusilli with ragu. Lastly, there's four cocktails (all good) but they only need one - the spaghetti spritz. Best spritz we've had outside of Italy. Don't wait. Everything was fantastic! The server complimented our choices- saying we got the best of the best there. We did the Caesar with the fried egg but it was nothing special (we just needed something crunchy and light to balance it all out) and the fried chicken cutlet sandwich, and the Ragu rigatoni. We were stuffed so we didn't have room for dessert but we saw another table get the spumoni and it looked incredible. We came back here last weekend now that they're open for brunch and had a wonderful experience once again. They covered the entire backyard so you shouldn't have to worry about being cold during the winter months ahead. We shared the Pomodoro Baked Eggs, Burrata Sandwich, and Ricotta Pancakes between two of us. Everything was delicious. My favorite was the egg dish, which reminded me of shakshuka, very yummy. A cute, cozy, neighborhood spot that unexpectedly blew me away! We got the crispy brussel sprouts and the spaghetti pomodoro, and both were truly amazing. When I first saw the combination of pepperoni and brussel sprouts, I thought it was interesting, but together, the pepperoni really enhances the crispiness of the brussel sprouts, making each bite better! This appetizer was full of amazing flavor, with the cheese on top as well. And the spaghetti pomodoro was the perfect dish to hit my pasta craving! Simple, yet flavorful. Bartenders were friendly and offered some recommendations for refreshing wine (it was hot as hell outside). Our table was out front in their enclosed outdoor seating section, which was nice because it was entirely enclosed with AC. We started with the Caesar salad and split their spicy lobster pasta special and the fussili grosso. Everything was super fresh, high quality ingredients and prepared perfectly. Came here with my parents on a Saturday Evening right at open. The host/ GM(?) was so kind and let us sit even though we had no reservations and they were booked. The decor is adorable but the food!!! We had the watermelon salad, shrimp scampi and pasta of the day, penne a la vodka with a pork sausage. Everything was amazing. Vodka sauce was so creamy. Scampi was so well seasoned and fresh. Watermelon salad is to die for. I wish it was 3 times the size so I can have it as a meal. The wine selection was great. Server was so nice and explained and selected our wine for us when we told her what we were looking for. Tiramisu and gelato were also excellent. Overall an amazing dinner. It took a "Local," my #2 son, to find a restaurant this good amongst the thousands and thousands places to eat in New York and its surrounding areas! You can not just stumble upon The Cafe Spaghetti. It's stuck in the middle of the block on a very narrow one-way street. You could walk by it 100 times and not know it's there. Well, let me tell you something; this place was so good and so jam-packed, it's obvious (to me) that the word is out on this exceptional Café. With a reservation at 8:00 for 8 people, we got off to a bad start with Cafe Speghetti; they couldn't seat us until 9:00. Normally this would have been a deal breaker for me, but their maître d was so apologetic and so busy giving us food and drink to compensate for this mix up, we were fine. When our table for eight was ready, we dove into this beautiful menu. First and foremost, we ordered three liters of their house red wine. Then, we got down to business: * Romaine "Caesar" Salad - with sesame seeds, pangrattato, alici bianche, parm * Penne Pasta - with spicy garlic, sugo, Maine lump crab, and chiles * Meatballs in sugu * Speghetti Pomodoro - with parmigiano, basil * Fussili Grosso - alla bolognese * A Tiramisu and a birthday cake and we were good to go. Really enjoyed out last visit. We had the chicken milanese, which was huge, can definitely be shared amongst a couple of people. The crab penne pasta was really good, had some nice chunks of crab and the sauce was really tasty (a bit spicy which was awesome). The pasta with sausage and brocolli was also really good. Loved our first visit here and would visit again! We recently moved to BKN and this place was recommended by our friends. Lovely backyard space that reminds us we are in a foreign (say, Italy?) place. It has a cute motorbike as a centerpiece decoration, which our kids loved - super kid friendly as well. The staff is super nice and the food is on point. We visited with our 5yo and 3yo sons. Our oldest had difficult time choosing a drink for himself and ended up sticking with water - our youngest went ahead with a lemonade. The staff concocted something special (non-sparkling, with orange/pineapple juice and strawberry syrup) which was a very nice surprise/treat and brought a huge smile. Tomato&watermelon salad was on point and we liked the burrata. Tonight special, linguini cacio e pepe was on point and our kids loved spaghetti pomodoro. It was Father's Day evening and there was a crowd when they open the doors at 5PM. So, they went from zero customers to full capacity in zero minutes. I have been walking around my entire life saying that I don't like Italian food. Obviously, I'm being facetious - I've just convinced myself I can "do that" after years of making pastas and meatballs throughout college, and I'd rather spend my money on some intricate Thai dish that has ingredients I can't find on my own. All this has changed though, as I've come to my senses and realized there's definitely a serious gap in how I cook Italian food vs how the absolute pros do it. Cafe Spaghetti is a great example of a place doing "it" not only better than me, but also better than everyone else. I came by recently to celebrate a birthday on a semi-quiet week night. Even though it was Thursday and all the other restaurants on the street were fairly quiet, Cafe Spaghetti was the anomaly. People weren't crowding the door, but there was a clear understanding from walk ins that this is a hot spot, and you just might not make it in. Luckily, we had a reservation. We sat inside (my biggest blunder was booking indoor vs. outdoor - indoor was lovely! But how can you beat that backyard?) and the host and server both wished my friend happy birthday. Really sweet way to start off the meal. We decided to get the cardamaro and lemon ice and the spritz as our cocktails and the meatballs and cacio e pepe rice balls for appetizers. Both were fantastic. I especially loved the tomato sauce that came with the meatballs and I was grasping at anything on the table I could dip into it. For mains, we got the fussili grosso (I will admit, I love a ragu) and the ricotta ravioli. Usually, with pasta dishes, I feel that there's a clear "winner," but this was definitely not the case. Both were flavorful and memorable. Thankfully, I managed to stop myself from eating the entire fussili grosso (leftovers! yay!) so we could fit in the tiramisu. The dessert was all its hyped up to be. A fairly large portion for two people, but definitely worth the indulgence. Best of all, throughout our meal, I saw Chef Sal himself chummin' it up with both first timers and regulars. It was clear that every person at the restaurant was having an absolute blast. The friendly warmth of the dining room stuck with me the entire meal. The outside back is really nice but so is the front and inside. Inside is just pretty small. There is a bar to sit at too. The ricotta crostini is a must imo. Caesar salad was also very good, but im a big fan of caesar. They have mostly wines but some cocktails + beer. I got the pasta with crab dish and it was wonderful. Plenty of food and filling. My friend got the chicken and she liked it (it doesnt come with pasta fyi). Got the lemon sorbet which was fresh and v tasty. Overall the bill will be high but worth it. read more

Had dinner at Cafe Spaghetti on Friday night. An Italian spot focused on a homey traditional Italian experience and proving largely successful at it. Quality: Simple, high-quality Italian cuisine. This newer spot does a lot of the small things right. Our meal started with the Burrata, which was excellent, but it was the Focaccia that stole the show. The Riceballs were a little dry, but the cacio e pepe flavor was a fun twist on the item. The Tomato & Watermelon Salad, was simple, but fresh and tasty. The perfect time of the year to enjoy tomatoes and you could tell in this dish. The Fussili Grosso pasta was excellent, though I wanted more from Nonna's genovese ragu. Patrizia's Eggplant Parm was very good, a highly recommended entree. Quantity: Good sized portions for all the dishes we tried. Ambiance: Cafe Spaghetti is located in the Carroll Gardens area of Brooklyn. They have an outdoor shelter in front, a cramped indoor space, and then a large backyard patio. The indoor area has a traditional Italian restaurant feel, while the outdoor spaces are more relaxed. The backyard patio is a beautiful garden space and the prime real estate for dinner. The music was a mix of traditional pop, but the playlist started to repeat for a while before someone seemed to recognize. Crowd: Reservations are recommended, though they had a few tables open for walk-ins. Tons of families with young children early on Friday night. An absolute GEM - one of the best Italian spots I've tried in all of New York. Definitely make sure to snag a Resy... have heard great things about the cute backyard (no dogs allowed) but the front deck is also lovely (dogs allowed!) First, have to comment on how amazing the wait staff is here. Everyone was so friendly and attentive, and all had a great lively energy. It's really rare to come by, especially in NYC, and really went a long way for our positive experience. The food is, simply, divine. My husband and I ordered the cacio e pepe rice balls, meatballs, 2 pastas (the fusilli and the orecchiette), eggplant parm and the tiramisu. Yes - we love to eat. Everything was SO fresh and flavorful. I don't normally order eggplant parm but the sauce in this one was incredible. I preferred the fusilli with its hearty ragu, but my husband liked how simple the orecchiette was (generously served with broccoli rabe and sausage). The star of the night for me was easily the tiramisu. It may have taken the top spot over my other favorite tiramisu at Lillo's - this one had a much more prominent espresso flavor and was lighter. We were told that the family's grandfather makes it himself each morning...10000/10. Cannot wait to come here again and eat our way through some of the other dishes! read more

Soft pasta, uncomfortable furniture, sneaky up charges. $45 (or more at $5 per person) just to SLICE the cake that you asked to bring and paid for yourself. They will not serve your cake or bring it out for you (even though my bill was $1440 for dinner for 9ppl and was supposed to be 720! WILL NEVER GO BACK OR RECOMMEND. The main issue was, the "family style" portions are skimpy (see family style dish of pastas below) so we ordered few additional plates but nothing extravagant...An additional $700??? They serve low quality food not worth the cash AT ALL, and they up-charge for everything. They tacked on $15 to swap the second dish for steak when we were told it was $10... but I guess they decided an additional $5 would help their pockets out... that's actually robbery! Also, how can you claim "family style" but give 1 choice for the main ??? Family style means multiple people dining, should be a minimum of 2 choices. Very disappointed with the food. For a place called "Café spaghetti" I expected excellent pasta. The spaghetti was mushy, very small portions, for what was supposed to be family style. We did the preset menu however there was barely enough food for everyone at the table so we had to order additional plates which turned our $70 per person "family style" into $170 per person...more than double, what a ripoff! I know food and the restaurant industry very well, this place was the biggest disappointment!
