I'm out here for work and this popped up on Google as a nice place to eat..we parked up the street because the parking lot adjacent to the restaurant maybe fit 6 cars tops...Once entering we were greeted by the bartender but the host was not up front and we were told to wait.No problem, except several awkward minutes passed by and she still hadn't returned. The bartender appeared to go see where she was but we were still left standing there after awhile he told us they were slammed in 2nd dining room and for us to sit up front. I asked him for recommendations...everything was apparently "the best in town" so his sales pitch needs a little work lol...I ended up getting the Lamb Tagine (I think that's what it was called). It was ok..the dining experience wasnt anything special but I didnt hate it. read more

I recently went to this restaurant with High Hopes, I went with my mother and father were both in their 70s three friends and myself. I walked in there were only 22 tops occupied and lots of tables available when I asked if we could be seated the maître d' said there was no openings I'd have to make a reservation. I left the bar my parents stayed and they seated them at the bar! The bartender was nice the food was pretty damn good I'll be at very expensive, as we sat at the bar I overheard at least three cancellations and the maître d' still insisted on having a sit at the bar! By the time we finished our meal we'd spend over $350 on seven people in the whole entire time they were at least 3 6 tops available!! The maître d' is probably the worst person working at any restaurant in Eugene Oregon and should be fired immediately. read more

Very disappointing experience. Waited over 20 minutes before I was forced to grab one of the servers attention to our table. Nassim and his colleagues paraded by our table many time, gazing at the table without acknowledging us. Would have felt much better should have Nassim apologized for the delay. The ribeye was beyond well done and burned. The baked potatoes were great, vegetables were saggy and over cooked. My son and wife could go through 1/4 of neither the chicken Casablanca nor the coconut curry eggplant. Ebrahim the Owner is very gracious host but need to hear about this experience. read more

Tried this place for the first time tonight. What a super cute place! The ambiance is wonderful! And wow! What a great server we had. Good wine selection as well. But, when it came to the food it was well, ok. Not great, although there were some highlights. First off I could go to this place and do nothing but eat the bread! My wife had a Cesar Salad that was super fresh with a wonderful dressing. The not so good; We ordered calamari as an appetizer the flavors were there, but it was extremely tough and over cooked. I had one of the specials (Blackened Rock fish) It was so over season I could barely tell I was eating fish and the veggies were, well so over seasoned that I could not eat them. But, the mashed potatoes were wonderful (although luke warm) My wife had the Curried shrimp, again over powered by the seasoning. We LOVE spice and tons of flavor, but there is such a thing as too much. Lastly, we shared Pecan pie for desert. It defiantly tasted home made, but was burned. Being a new transplant from SF, we had high hopes for this place as the foodies that we are and were definitely spoiled by the bay restaurants, we were excited for such a classy looking romantic place. My boyfriend and I came here last night for dinner for our 4 year anniversary. I've lived in Eugene my whole life and while I've heard great things about this place, I had never tried it myself! I don't even know where to start?! This place was AMAZING. There was a duck game on so when we got there it wasn't too busy. Our server's name was Zeb and he was awesome. They had a ton of different specials last night which made it 10x harder to figure out what I was going to order because everything sounded delicious! To start we both ordered cocktails. A gimlet and margarita. Both blew us away... Zeb told us that each drink has fresh squeezed juice right then and there instead of ahead of time. Oh boy, you can tell! Some of the best cocktails I've had in Eugene. For an appetizer we ordered a special they were doing... Beef tenderloin marinated in chipotle, lime juice, and tequila for 24 hours. It was amazing. Perfect amount of spice! We wanted to try the calamari as well but we were told that it's available all the time and our server suggested we get something that we couldn't order next time we came in. It was a great suggestion. The beef was extremely tender and could be cut with a butter knife. For dinner, my boyfriend ordered the steak diane. We had to see how it was since so many people say that it's the best part about Cafe Soriah and the best steak in Eugene. I can't say that was a lie. I almost wanted to eat my boyfriends whole dinner. The steak was amazing and cooked perfectly. The sauce was to die for. I ordered a special they had for dinner, ground beef tenderloin with fettuccini noodles in a vodka sauce. Also just as amazing as everything else! The best part of dinner were the shrimp we ordered. They're typically an appetizer but my boyfriend ordered them to eat with his steak. Holy cow. The best shrimp I've ever had.... In my whole life. The sauce was insane. We couldn't help but get dessert either. They have a tray they bring around to show you. Seeing visuals makes it hard to say no! We got their cherry cheesecake.... And, yes, also amazing. Concerned about Covid with my impaired immunity issues, they warmed up the patio dining area just for us and we had a delightful meal with very kind, attentive staff. where to start...I can't say that Cafe Soriah is intimate or romantic, it's a bit crowded and bland to be either of those. The server was pleasant enough, friendly, but we didn't get what we ordered (not one but three items). As for the food, I was surprised that this is described as Greek/Mediterranean food. While I've not been to either, I'd say this was perhaps Mediterranean "inspired" American food. Several reviews say "pretentious"...I agree that the menu is pretentious, or maybe overly ambitious. I had Steak Diane, hoping that the kitchen would allow the flavor of well prepared excellent beef to be complemented by other flavors, but no, instead we have a vast quantity of a sweet, heavily flavor sauce drowning something under there (beef, I hoped) and heavily garlicked vegatables, as if they lack confidence in their basic ingredients and feel a need to hide them beneath (far beneath) a cacophony of flavors. Even the salad was drowned in an unremarkable dressing. The deserts looked amazing but the chocolate cake was falling apart. The prices are astonishing for the quality of food and service. Out of line, really. Yes, it's Eugene, but that really is not an excuse. The food and service have a lot of room for improvement. It's as if lots of people have gathered in this place, determined to have a good time and eat great food, but the food and the service are lettng us down. I've heard talks about Café Soriah for quite some time now. We finally made it here for dinner about 2 weeks ago. Generally when you hear "Café Soriah" you also hear about the "Steak Diane". This was the reason I wanted to come here. We made reservations for 8:30 and had a nice corner table for 2. The place is intimate, and has a nice feel to it. Our waiter was spot on, he was kind and attentive. It's always nice to have a waiter that enjoys their job and wants to make sure you have a good time. The Steak Diane was very good. It almost reminded me of a super tender pot roast. The portion was plenty, the gravy and mushrooms that topped it was savory, and the mashed taters were perfect. I really had no complaints at all about dinner. My wife wanted the Steak Diane also, however they gave her the Smoked Ribeye on accident. She wasn't very thrilled that they gave her the wrong steak, however it was very good also. I've never had a "smoked steak", so to taste the smoky flavor on my favorite cut, I was pretty impressed. I truly feel that I would prefer it grilled over coals as normal, but this was new and interesting. We ordered a nice bottle of Cabernet which pared perfectly with our carnivorous meals. The food was delicious and crafty. I like the atmosphere of the place and the general service. I must admit service was slow, but hey, if the meal is worth the wait, then I'm fine with waiting. Lets see, I scoped out the menu before I came and I read the Yelp reviews and I even messaged a Yelper about this place. I came anyway, just to see what the fuss was all about. I also really like Mediterranean food. My friend had the most delicious dish. She got the sambosik. I got the lamb curry, which I enjoyed, but the rice tasted strangely odd. We've been back several time since the last review, and one word describes our experiences - excellent! While Cafe Soriah has several excellent entree's, we keep coming back to two - the Steak Diane, and the Prawn's Pernod. For us, these two dishes are fantastic every time. In addition to the great entrees, they also serve up several really good desserts! However, like the entrees, we keep coming back to two - the flambés - Peach, and Banana....just excellent! Lastly, in addition to cooking up excellent food and desserts, Ib does a great job of keeping his wine list fresh - we enjoyed an excellent French Chablis with our prawn dinner. I dined here with my family this evening to celebrate my graduation. The staff was very accommodating for allowing us to add additional members to our reservation. Date night at cafe Soriah was a success! Walked in on a Thursday night, the bar was pretty happening and loud. I was hoping for a quite date night. We got sat within a couple of minutes. At first, it was pretty loud with drunken diners, but luckily after 10 minutes the rowdy bunch had left. Plenty of tables to choose from, candles and fresh flowers on top of white linen. The servers made sure there was bread and water within 10 minutes of being seated. Wine and beer, came within the next couple of minutes. The food was excellent. After reading reviews on the steak Diane, we had to order at least one. I love lamb, and had ordered the tumeric lamb. It had great flavor. Tender pieces of lamb, in a creamy sauce with mushrooms. Absolutely divine! Steak Diane, was everything you've read about and more. Tender, juicy and perfectly medium rare. As for attire, mostly everyone was in jeans. I was worried about under dressing, but most people were wearing a nice shirt and jeans. Definitely a place to dine for date night! read more

We we on our way to Eugene when I got the FB post inviting diners to sit outside on their intimate patio and enjoy the last few days of summer. They also offered 1/2 any bottle of wine, well, how could we pass that up! We were seated in a cozy spot close to the Chef Ib's station. We watched all evening long as he prepared the best that Cafe Soriah has to offer. We started with the Ceviche' and moved on to the Souvlaki. WOW it was amazing. We chose our wine, an Estate Tempranillo from Abacela Vineyard in the Umpqua Valley. It was amazing. We sipped it while we watched Chef Ib prepare our Steak Diane. Again, it was AMAZING. It's a pleasure to watch him prepare a meal as well as the enjoyment of the meal itself. We followed up with the Peach Flambe' dessert. Cafe Soriah's is OUTSTANDING. I'm amazed by their professionalism. My brother is getting married and we quickly needed to find a spot for the rehearsal dinner. With only 2 days notice, Soriah's accommodated 30 people for dinner on a Saturday night. I was shocked! We originally had the outside seating area reserved, but of course it was going to rain, so they made a beautifully intimate dining area inside. My family can't thank these guys enough for the amazing job they did. Everything was beautifully executed from the drinks to the desserts. Timing was not long either. I have always loved this place, so I'm trying to do my part during this pandemic with take out. The other evening we got home to discover our salad missing. We called and they offered to make one up to come and get. No, after driving 20 minutes home with our $25-30 meals that are getting cold we are not driving back. He said he would take it off our bill, (which I have not checked yet). I really feel as good customer service we also should of been offered a complimentary item, as an apology and to get us to return. This place is ok. They try hard but don't quite get there. Ambiance and attentive service are nice (especially for Eugene), although the noise level on a busy night is ear splitting. Maybe get some acoustic tile. The menu is a weird mix of lightly Mediterranean bistro standards and we were not wild about anything we had. The bread is quite good but pre-packaged butter not so nice. The calamari fritti appetizer special was pretty marginal - overcooked, tough and wildly oversalted in addition to sprinkled with salty capers. Caesar salad was quite pedestrian - just some chopped Romaine lettuce, a sprinkling of parmesan and some boxed croutons. Boring. The lamb chops were undercooked (bright pink verging on red inside) and rather bony - a couple bites per chop and the rest bone. They were also gamy - probably not real fresh. Served with too little tasty sautéed veg adjacent a Matterhorn of heavy mashed potatoes with skins. $90 later we were out the door and can't say we will rush back any time soon. read more

I had heard about this place as a great place for steak.So I decided to go there last night. I am an older lady with a cane, I was seated clear in the back next to a window, which made it difficult to get to the restroom. I took for ever for anyone to come to the table, the gal that was running around lighting candles finally came over, lite the candle, I asked her when would the waiter be there, to which she said in a little bit, it was another 10 minutes. When the waiter did finally come, I asked him for more water, gave him the order and 'waited' it seems they really are just bad or not enough people who know what they are doing. Finally he brings the food, the Veg's were terrible, they stayed with me ALL NIGHT, the steak was a rib eye and cook perfectly, it was all piled on the plate, not a good presentation. I had to signal the waiter and water gal in order to get any services from this point forward, waited forever, this is not a place I would recommend for a dinner, Sharie's, a coffee shop in the area do better than this with presentation and service. Finally I wanted a cup of coffee with cream and sugar, he brought the coffee, then about 10 minutes later brought the cream and sugar, never came over to ask if I wanted a refill, also asked for a desert, which he sort of threw the plate on the table. Wow. Cafe Soriah did not disappoint. We arrived right at 5 when they opened and would have had no trouble getting a table, even if we hadn't made the reservation. Initially the service was a bit slow, but I chalked that up to arriving the instant they opened. We were a little worried at first, but menu only had two vegetarian entrees, one was eggplant, which my vegetarian boyfriend doesn't like. We ordered stuffed zucchini as an appetizer, I had the prawn special which included a salad and a glass of wine. He had a side Caesar salad and the mushroom pasta (can't recall the name). The chef and owner cooked my prawns in the back room where we sat (he had a cooking station set up there, for when it's not too busy), he visited lightly and asked how spicy I wanted them. How fun to have that personal interaction with the chef. The food was incredible. The best I've eaten in Eugene, by far. My boyfriend was delighted by his dish, not the least disappointed. They may have been the best prawns I've ever had, and the saffron rice was to die for. We finished with a really tasty chocolate torte. I saw a friend post about Cafe Soriah and was instantly brought back in time to my first, and only, experience here - before the days of Yelp. But this was a PIVOTAL experience for me As a mother, feminist, and activist. Me - a young mother of two (newborn and 16 months old) who had been gifted a gift certificate for a hot restaurant (my husband and I are major foodies). We were glared at as we entered, and told "we don't really do kids here" but be-grudgingly were seated. I'd say we were halfway through our apps when my INFANT needed to eat. Milk. From my breast. Eat, like EVERY OTHER PATRON in this establishment. Our waiter refused to continue to serve us and I was asked to "cover up" to make the staff more comfortable. Needless to say, my son finished his meal and so did we. But I never returned here and never will. My wife and I ate at Soriah tonight, for an early Valentine's dinner. While the service was acceptable and the drinks pretty good, the experience was absolutely ruined by salt. To start, the calamari appetizer was way too salty to eat. We each had a couple of bites and then told the server we couldn't eat it. She took it away and we continued with our meal. We had another appetizer (the trio with hummus and baba ganooj and pickled veggies) that was nice, and a passable goat cheese salad. Then the entree we were sharing arrived: curried prawns. And it was inedible, literally. We each tasted the sauce and looked at each other in dismay. Really? Another dish overwhelmed with salt. And another few awkward moments waiting for the server to come by, not eating, just anticipating a second uncomfortable conversation with the server and thinking about where else we might be able to find dinner in the limited amount of time we still had childcare. To their credit, they offered to take the entree off the bill, along with the calamari appetizer. We didn't eat either one, so they should. Still, we would have gladly paid for excellent food, which is what we expected given the price and reputation of the restaurant. Now I see many negative reviews here that specifically mention salt. I wish I had read them before we wasted a night at Soriah. read more

My husband and I went to Cafe Soriah to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We had reservations and were excited to give this restaurant a try as we heard great things about it. Upon walking in my husband told the hostess that we had reservations. She replied "sit anywhere you want..." when you have reservations and are going to be paying at least $30/person I would really like to be seated. They were slow and had many open tables. We chose one next to the windows. We ordered salads. They attempted to give the salads to the table next to us, one of the only three in use in that room. The waiter came over and quickly corrected the mistake. My husband's salad (the goat cheese) was drenched in salad dressing. He wasn't able to eat all of it because it was saturated. I ordered the ceasar salad and it was good. For the main course, my husband ordered the lamb and I ordered the duck. They attempted to give us another table's food. Our waiter caught it after my husband was served and quickly took the plates away. The meats were prepared well. My sauce was a little to strong for my taste. Both plates were served with mashed potatoes and veggies. Both our veggies were under cooked. Despite it being slow our waiter was not attentive. After we were done eating we were waiting quite some time for him to get back and ask about dessert/give us our check. After receiving the bill we had to wait again quite some time for him to come back. I get that some people may want time to conversate but we were ready to leave. At $35/person we expected a better experience than what we had in every way. We will not be returning. read more
