We recently found Cafe 72 for brunch, it's stuff dreams are made of. Each time I leave, I think of my schedule and when I can come back! We ordered off of the amazing specials menu every visit. The food is AMAZING. Whenever we go we usually order (depending how many are in our party) a couple eggs benny dishes and a stuffed french toast (or other sweet dish) and share between the table so we can get the best of all the flavors! The coffee is delicious,they offer specialty coffes as well. If there is a wait for a table they offer coffee at an outside table, and there are heaters outside to keep you warm. The home fries could use some onion or salt or pepper. They weren't really seasoned at all. It was cramped and it seemed that they were understaffed or overwhelmed. They called my group in, sat us down, and then had us get up because they needed our table for a bigger party (was it because they'd make more money or did they know someone?). Then we watched as 4 more parties sat before us. They claimed that the table they were gonna put us at paid but hasn't got up yet, as they continued to sit other parties. I first came here with my mom a long, long time ago, before they served breakfast at lunch. At that time, I wasn't too pleased with the place. But then they won one of the best breakfasts in central NJ and now they serve bfast all the time! We frequently go there from work for lunch. They do allow you to make reservations for large groups, which is extremely helpful since it is a small place. During the week you really need to get there before 12:15 if you want to get a table before the rush. It's insanely packed on the weekends, so I would steer clear then. There are two things that I like to get. I tend to customize the turkey egg white wrap, and also recently fell in love with the portabello tower (basically eggs benedict without the english muffin). Definitely make sure to tell them that you want your eggs poached soft - I have had mine come out over cooked on numerous occasions. Most of the staff is fine - however, there is one waitress there with short brown hair and glasses that is rather rude. She comes across as wanting you to only order how things are on the menu - no modifications. When I try to make changes, she rushes me and I don't feel very welcomed. So if you can, steer clear of her. Other than that, everyone else is nice and the food tends to come out in a timely manner. read more

I had the croissant French toast as my main and I'm happy to report they serve real maple syrup. Huge deal breaker when I go to a brunch place and they give me pancake syrup instead. So cheers to Cafe 72 for doing the right thing. We also ordered eggs Benedict, banana pancakes and a Reuben. Funny enough, my mother in law ordered fruit as her side only to realize she could have had cheese fries. When my husbands cheese fries came, her eyes grew huge as plates and she proceeded to dip her Reuben in the cheese sauce between bites. Goodbye side of fruit. The best. My favorite breakfast place ever. Everything is good and the staff is great. Creative well prepared specials. They have coffee service and bocce for the waiting line of adoring fans. They have a special menu every weekend with new items for that week and they always change it up so you're never bored and always want to go back to see what they've come up with for the new weekend. Let me start by saying the food is 5/5. It's interesting, delicious, reasonably priced, and the menu has some healthier options tucked in. It's exactly what the area needs. We haven't gone in a while, though, because they will not take reservations unless there's a large party. On a cold weekend morning I would prefer not to have my guests and I wait 45 minutes or more for breakfast. There is no inside waiting area, so you're waiting in an area outside along the intersection. They provide coffee and water, but the fact is they are too popular now not to take reservations, at least on weekends. Last time I went we left quickly because it was hot, crowded, and loud as they tried to fit patrons inside. There's no leisurely conversation over breakfast because everything feels rushed. Plus, you can't help but feel bad that there are a dozen or more people waiting for your spot standing outside. The only negative I've ever heard someone say about Cafe 72 is the lack of reservations. I hope they reconsider so people can start their day off with wonderful food AND a good experience. read more

I went here on Thursday morning after reading some good reviews on Yelp. In short, it was anti-climatic. It was actually not busy at all given it was weekday morning. We were greeted and seated promptly. Things went kind of downhill from there. We waited about 20 minutes for the server to get our order. Don't get me wrong she was very pleasant and professional. Once we ordered our food (some chicken and waffles and egg benedict) we waited another 20 minutes or so for the food to arrive. We had a baby with us so it was so painful to wait that long. Once food arrived, I was quite surprised to see how small the portion size was given price point. For the chicken and waffle that I ordered, it was just garden-variety frozen chicken fingers on top of stale waffles. We actually liked the egg benedict though. The atmosphere was quite and quite nice also. We probably won't be back next time around. read more

I've been here several times over the years and they have a wonderful breakfast. I yet to be disappointed here. You may wait 30 minutes or so, but it is worth it. Plus, they have a "help yourself" coffee stand outside to ease the waiting pains. I tend to lean towards the benedicts they offer, but I have plenty of the other dishes as well. All 10's!
