Special pizza city is all about the value and portions. And I'm down with that! Quality has varied in the past in terms of taste. But the pizza is solid. Sometimes what you see can be deceiving as the taste can be a little off. For example, I had the pizza in the picture! Looked great. The cheese to sauce ratio was off. Needed more sauce. The pepperoni and olives saved it. Don't get me wrong. It was satisfying. But as a pizza enthusiast, all parameters have to be on point for 5 stars. Again, I've had some wonderful 5 star pizza here but on many occasions, the pizza was off for one reason or another. Price is right! Very economical here for the budget minded! That large pie with two toppings and two fountain drinks was $23. I had my first experience with taco pizza here. OMG! Delicious! I like the interior. It's diner-esque and somewhat dated. I love it. The folks who work here, and presumably owners too, are very nice! The location is industrial and as such, portions are properly portioned for hungry customers who deserve a hearty meal. Ok. My best 5 star pick here is the Stromboli (large: pepperoni, mushrooms, bell peppers, onions, hot peppers). Huge and tasty with a generous amount of sauce! So this place on the outside looks like it hasn't been updated in a long long time. Which maybe true. But no matter what time you go inside, it is always bustling. I was craving their chicken and shrimp salad and was not disappointed. It is big enough for two. Comes with 6 seasoned shrimp and this chicken that is marinated so well on top of greens, onions (lots, and forgot to ask to hold back), olives, tomatoes and cucumbers. The marinade on the chicken is so good, you do not even need dressing on the salad. We also ordered a plain pie, which I don't think I have had their pizza before. It was a good solid pie. The cheese to sauce ratio on point. Good amount of sweetness to the sauce, and the crust was chewy yet crispy. Very satisfied. read more

TWO SLICE LUNCH REVIEW Stopped in to Special Pizza City on Olden Avenue Extension in Ewing, NJ, today for a quick lunch on a beautiful day. Plenty of parking, but a surprisingly small footprint inside with tables crowded together requiring side sliding to reach those against the wall. I asked for a regular slice and one Brooklyn square, well done. Order taken with a smile. Seven dollars and change. Looked good on the paper plates. Bigger than average. The undercarriage of the plain slice was thick and held the topside firmly. First bite was a heavy crunch through a thick crust and formidable layer of cheese. Nice, but neither the crust, cheese, nor red sauce layer had much flavor. The balance of cheese and sauce was out of whack, with way too much yellow and too little red. Then, half way through the wedge, the molten cheese separated from the base and slid in a gooey mass on to the plate. End of that mess. The Brooklyn square was better, but not enough to save the overall experience​. It did not fall apart and had a somewhat better flavor profile, with fresher mozza and basil added on top. Still, the taste was weaker than available in better Italian tomato pie parlors. Trenton has some great pizza shops. This is not one of them. read more

Every few months, I have always looked forward to getting pizza from Special Pizza City. Their food used to be high-quality, and I always felt confident that the staff who had prepared my food had been attentive to proper cooking and sanitation procedures. My latest experience at Special Pizza City has ruined me for want of pizza from there ever again. I ordered a half Taco, half White pie this evening. After eating through most of my slice of White pie, I bit into a piece of the slice that seemed to have an oddly textured piece of cheese cooked in with it. I will forever be grateful for my decision spit this strange cheese out, rather than just chalk it up to being a weird bite. It turns out this "cheese" was actually a silver-dollar sized piece of thick plastic wrap cooked into my white pie this evening. I shudder to think what could have occurred had this plastic wrapping been fully ingested--by me or anyone at all. This could have happened to a young child who may not have known to spit out the plastic, or to an adult with a compromised gag reflex, unable to regurgitate it. Tonight, someone could have choked to death. I spoke with the manager and implored him to retrain his staff on all food safety and preparation procedures. I understand that mistakes can be made, and that no one is perfect. However, the reality is that a chef's carelessness could have seriously hurt someone today. I strongly recommend against visiting this pizzeria, but if you ever do obtain food from here, check it very closely before consumption. read more

I love the food that Pizza City has to offer however, a recent encounter while ordering food has left a sour taste in my mouth. We ordered from work on a Saturday night and the guy taking the order was incredibly rude and I really don't know why. I called, said I would like to make and order for delivery, gave the address and started ordering (for about 4 people). I could hear his sighs through the phone and he snapped at me when I thought I heard him say French dressing instead of ranch and just wanted to clarify the correct order) He also asked for the phone number, which I gave him and then asked for an extension. I told him there was no extension, then he asked again what the extension was, I said again that there was no extension, and when he asked for the third time I told him I didn't understand what he was trying to ask me. He responded almost yelling "An extension!!!!! The part of the work you are in!!!!" I've never heard a unit referred to as that before so sorry if I didn't understand what you were trying to say, no need to be snappy and rude about it. Special Pizza City is truly the greatest lunch spot in the area. I eat here at least once a week. Slices and delivery are both great, however sometimes the delivery drivers are extremely busy. The employees make an effort to be friendly especially if you come in often. My favorite slice is the white with garlic, but everything is good. read more

On Friday afternoons when ordering at work, we have to call over an hour in advance sometimes. But it's always delicious, always hot & fresh. They never skimp on any of the toppings either! Ordered delivery last night to my house and the driver was courteous and called ahead to make sure where my building was. I have never dined in with them, but have picked up a few times when delivery wait was longer than I wanted to wait. They have your name and number saved in the computer too so the guy would always ask me if I was at home or work address which is a nice touch for a business in Trenton. read more

The turkey they use, it's the slimy kind, they forgot to put the cheese in my sub, although I doubled checked with him if they carried provolone. While they have a decent variety of specialty pizzas, the quality of those pizzas differs from week to week. Take their taco topping pizza for example. One week it'll be perfect, firm crispy crust holding the ground beef, cheese, tomato, and lettuce topping without spilling. The next week the taco pizza would be so soggy that the toppings and juice mixed in fall and drip onto the paper plate and you're left with a slice of pizza with barely any taco toppings.
